You can buy it around here. It's going to be an upper-Midwest-only thing, I'm thinking. For the most part, anyway. I could be wrong, but this seems to be the region for it.

Honestly, you are right, rhubarb is pretty horrible. That said, put enough sugar on it and i'll eat it tongue_ss.gif

I can only assume it is so popular in the North because it will actually grow there and keep coming back year after year regardless of the weather. Who doesn't have at least 1 rhubarb plant in their back yard in the great white north??

Love Rhubarb pie and crisp!! Raw rhubarb is extremely bitter, but prepared properly it rocks!!

CanadaDriver's License
i ALMOST had to take the test and road test, and loose my motorcycle endorsement because I was actually driving on an EXPIRED Virginia drives license! DUH!!!! Did that for like 3 weeks. Onoly reason I knew it was expired was that I went to the Liquor store, handed over my drivers license and the teller stated he could not accept it has it was expired DUH!! So I went to the DMV (hell ya I drove, lol) And the lady at first stated since it was expired, i would have to start from square 1, NOOOOOOO!!! But she talked to her manager and since I had not been expired for that long, they allowed me to renew it without penalty, whewwwwwwwww!!

Virginia was simple; handed over my Nova Scotia one and that was it. Even kept my motor cycle endorsement.

Nice to know smile.gif Thats the same gas station that Ill be getting mine from too, and nice to know the kingston rcmp gave that to you for free wink.gif I wasnt sure if I had to go there, or if I could have gone to the MP shack

MP shack won't do anything for ya!! Just print something off the USCIS wer page, or whatever paperwork u have, who knows they might not even ask ya for it. Teh RCMP officer I dealt with at first was sort of a jerk, lol sort of rude, told me it would take a few weeks! When he left, the secretary came by and told me not to worry, come back in 2 days!!

The U haul guy was nice. He couldn't guarantee me a truck until like a week prior, but he ensure me he would drive to Halifax himself to get one, if he didn't have one!! Truck was in fine mechanical condition, but a bit dirty inside----but then again i'm a neat freak, so yes i cleaned it,lol As well ensure u check the fluid levels and tire pressure.

I actually drove from green wood to Newport RI on my first part of the leg--dropped ####### off in my inlaws basement, then made the trip to DC. I made it to RI in 1 day. I don think I left Greenwood till nearly noon, was back in Dec 2004, so cant recall. I belive I crossed into the USA at the Calais, ME. very simple, didnt even inspect my Uhaul and was no wait time at all--since I arrived around 7 pm !! Only thing u need for ur personal goods is an inventory sheet. Nothing fancy, I just made mine on a Microsoft Word document in "table" format. Best of luck

Greenwood is ok, I like small, lol Dc is crazy, far too much traffic. I rented my U-haul from the gas station right by the small drive thru tim hortons in Kingston (on the main road) he was a good guy to deal with. I got my Police Cerificate from the RCMP detachment there, took 2 or 3 days, was free. They wanted proof that i required it, so I printed off a page from the USCIS web site, they were happy.

CanadaHi! Newbie from N.S!
Everyone wants to do it as fast as possible!!

As a visitor to the USA, you CAN NOT work! stay for 6 months but can't work!! And staying for 6 months is not a right, it is a privilege!

Its not up to me or anyone on this board to figure out what YOUR INTENT is, that would be up to the POE officer, or the person that looks over your AOS (adjustment of status) paperwork. My wife and I saw a lawyer here in DC for a free consult, and thats what she told us to do, just on a visit, I stay and AOS!!
You could file the k1 paperwork today if u wanted, or got married tomorrow, and then file the cr-1! Not a s fast process, anywhere for 6 months to over a year!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2008-12-07 15:17:00
CanadaHi! Newbie from N.S!
Since ur in NS, i would forget about the K3 and just go for t he CR-1. Take about the same amount of time, BUT CR-1 is cheaper in the long run and has more options, such as being able to work right away, where as the k3, you can't!!

Here is a chart of the + and - of each visa: http://www.visajourn...mp;page=compare

Going to the USA with the INTENT of staying is illegal! If you went to the USA and out of the blue decided to stay, thats a different story! Of course their can be problems/hassles going that route, such as you cant leave the USA until a certain part of the process has been completed! Well, not that you can't leave the USA, just most likely you would not be able to get back in, then have to start over at square 1!!

One can still visit while the visa is being processed. yes one can be denied, but many of us have had no problems, I traveled monthly to DC from Halifax. My advice on visiting while the process is ongoing:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer
2) Be confident in ur replies
3)keep ur response short and to the point, dont tell ur life story!!
4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!
5)pack light! No job resumes with you
6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)
7) Always be polite, being rude isnt going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!
8) have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didnt lie! Refer to #1

As wel keep in mind that when dealing with govt officials, nothing goes as planned. Timewise, the k1 should get you to the USA faster, but thats not always the case! There are some VJ members that has taken over a year to get the k1! Not sure how long it is taking the CR-1!

I should mention that I got married in the USA (court house wedding, lol) then went back to canada and started the visa process. One can start the process while ur still in the USA, but you can't "live" there, only visit!! And visiting is up to the POE (port of entry) officer!!

Best of luck

9) maybe its time to pick a new hockey team if your team has NEVER won the Stanley Cup, or it looses two in a row to the worlds best team--Flames!! Its not called bandwagonning if you jump ship before Xmas!

they are just extra picky abou the documentation ihad a french birth certificate that was not transated nd notarized I figured they seeen ton's of those so it would not matter ....big mistake added an extra month to my wat time.

Hi, I am confusing about your travel back and forth idea. I checked my K1 visa, it said "One" entry. I was told by many people's experiences (online, of course), you can not leave the country before you get your travel document! Even it is Canada.
I hope I am wrong, then I don't need to lock myself in US now!

Jenny

ya a K1 is a one time entry! And the op has been approved for a CR-1 visa which is much different

Canadapolice clearance
The police cert various all throughout Canada, even the between RCMP detachments. There is no set standard on what they look like or what the fee is! Some charge $$ , some do not! Not all local police forces or RCMP detachments provide this service. One is best to cal ahead, and ensure it states on the certificate, that the search was completed Canada wide

Canadalawyer confusing me!
What ur lawyer told you--is the same thing a lawyer in DC told me when I was visiting the USA. Its kind of sketchy, lol If one enters the usa with NO INTENT of staying, then out of the blue decides to stay and adjust of status (AOS),then thats fine! BUT if you have the INTENT to stay, not fine! Guess one could play dumb. Keep in mind if one does that route, you can't leave the USA until you have reached a certain stage in the visa process. So if a family member back in Canada dies, sorry ya can't go!! Well you can go, BUT you may not be allowed to re-enter the USA,thus u have to start back at square 1!!

Since ur on the East coast, ur interview wil be in Montreal, no matter which visa ur going for, k 1, k3 or cr-1! K1 should be the fastest, but there are restrictions on a k1 visa. the k3 and cr-1 are taking about the same time, so I would NOT even consider the k3, the cr-1 is a far superior visa and costs less in the long run!! Check out the chart here, it listt the + and - of each visa http://www.visajourn...mp;page=compare

What does someone do if they commute regularly?

U got to keep track as when it comes time to hand in the 751 you have to LIST all trip of 24 hrs or longer! If you have spent to much time out of the USA,guess one can be denied! They dont provide much space, so one would just have to include the dates on another piece of paper,or write out a statement or both
