CanadaMy view of Canada
lol, I remember driving in DC the first time with my wife. I was coming up to a pedestrian walk way (no lights)and I stopped, my wife was like , "what the hell are ya doing?' lol

And my first time in New York, I was first in line at a intersection, trying to make a left turn into a parking garage! It seemed almost impossible to do, as the pedestrians seemed to be in the way or cars were, they seemed to just keep going , even if it was a red light! So i missed 1 light, andf the lady behind me got out of her car, tapped on my window and said "dear I see you have Canadian plates, so I know your not used to driving down here, but trust me, you just have to stick your nose out and go for it, they won't hit you" lol I learned pretty quick to be aggressive and my wife swears that before New York I was a calm, laid back driving, but since then, I have turned into an aggressive jerk driving, lol

Sucks, but thats when the govt workers take their time off! My wife works for the Federal govt (nothing to do with immigration) and when it comes to the end of the yr, its use it, or lose it time (they can only carry over soo many days)!! So they use it! As well the rumor is that since this is Bush's last yr (last few days, he haww) he is going to give dec 26 off for all federal employees.

Thanks cattattude, Just read about ur interview experience, Great review

According to the stats, there are only 3 interviews in Sept booked so far. All IR-1/CR-1s

Maybe they take most of September off, since we should be getting appointment letters by now if the interviews are this month

I looked at last years numbers - there were 14 interviews in August, 3 in September, and 16 in October.

Sigh.

One has to keep in mind, only a small fraction of visa applicants are on VJ!

I admit I haven't done much since being here, but thats my choice. Everyone has their own priorities and agenda. My slack life wil soon come to an abrupt end in May and it is back to the rat race, lol

Here since Dec 2004--slacker,lol Hopefully graduate (nursing) this May!!

I worked (Cdn Air Force) right up until I left for the USA (DEC 2004) Since Ihad no clue on what i was going to do here, took an EMT course for the fun of it and enjoyed it. But realized more jobs as a RN so went to work at obtaining that. Graduate this May (hopefully) My wife supports me,lol So I just have to concentrate on classes.

CanadaTips for K3 interview in Montreal
Show up,lol The interview is normally the easiest portion of the whole journey for us canucks!! Since you have already sent in ur originals you should be good to go. Ensure u bring photocopies of the originals (u did make photocopies??,lol) Not a big deal if you did not, but they are nice to have! Ensure that your police background check is less than a year old. Not sure on the fee, I was a cr-1, but didnt pay for anything at the consulate. Did you DCF? (direct consular file)
Some evidence is fine, pics, letters, 99.9% of the time they don't ask for it, but it is good to have. They don't allow big bags into the consulate!! So I bought a legal size 13 pouch plastic accordian binder and organized stuff into it. As wel no electronics/cell phone! I'm sure others that have gone through the cr-1 process will chirp in,keep in mind the weekends tend to be a little slow in the Cdn forum!! Best of luck, and a safe return for ur husband.

CanadaVisiting US and length of stay
yes a Cdn CAN visit the USA, but one doesn't have the RIGHT to visit and it all comes down to the Port of entry (POE) officer. He/she have to make thier decision to allow you to enter or deny you entry in that short initial chat. So if he thinks ur spending more time in the USA than Canada or figures your a risk to stay in the USA he may deny you, or he may send you to secondary screening were you plead ur case, where they may allow u into the USA or deny entry

many of us on VJ (cdns) have visited, and never had a problems, and some do run into problems, its really all depends on the POE officer. I would rather the strong majority encounter no difficulties, but one should always be prepared, me free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer
2) Be confident in ur replies
3)keep ur response short and to the point, dont tell ur life story!!
4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!
5)pack light! No job resumes with you
6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)
7) Always be polite, being rude isnt going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!
8) have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didnt lie! Refer to #1

Best of luck

Never had a bad experience. Though I take Symbicort and thats 118.00 in Canada without a prescription plan, and down here its 20.00 with a plan. I didn't have a prescription plan in Canada, unfortunately I would pay for all of my medications out of my own pocket.

Prescriptions weren't covered by OHIP. Though my doctor would frequently supply me with samples of different variations of inhalers, and Symbicort worked great.

There have been times I have gone to the emergency because my doctor wasn't available and my town didn't have a walk in clinic and I have waited about two hours just to get in to see someone, but again that was because I didn't have an emergency.

I always found the American health care system to be the joke. I mean if someone can't afford it, they don't get to use it, and if they choose to use it, they can risk getting into financial troubles because of it. I could see how making a lame decision about buying a home, or car, or using credit cards could get someone into financial troubles, but a broken arm shouldn't.

Thats not true about the USA medical system entirely! Yes some hospitals are truly private! If you go there and ur not badly injured with no insurance they will turn u away! Or if u are badly injured, they will stabilize you and send you to another hospital that has a contract with the state.

Hospitals that do have a contract with the State see everyone, even those without insurance. and yes they will bill ya, but you will get seen.

I never had a bad experience in canada, but I was military so it was free, even the drugs. But my ex was covered under the provincial plan and it was great.

Here in the USA, I can't complain as we have Federal Blue/cross blue shield, prob the same plan as carla. I can see any Dr I want and do not require referrals. I'm not even sure what we pay a month, but $300 sounds about right and the employer picks up the rest.

Plus and Negatives of each system. It did take me quite awhile to find a family Dr. But I did go see a specialist a few weeks back and it was pretty quick! My parents in Saskatoon get great service, so all depends where one resides

CanadaKenny MacLean passes away!
http://www.canada.co...08-650776ecfb79

Canadian rock icon Kenny MacLean - best known for his stint as bassist with the multi-platinum-selling '80s new-wave band Platinum Blonde - was found dead Monday in his Toronto apartment.

Local police have released few details, but early reports suggested the 52-year-old bassist succumbed to a drug overdose and was found in the early afternoon by his sister. The musician apparently died sometime over the weekend after a performance Friday at the Mod Club, a popular concert venue and night club in the city founded by his former band mate, Platinum Blonde singer Mark Holmes.

MacLean was at the club to celebrate the release of his third solo album, titled Completely. The songwriter and performer, who has been a key figure in the Canadian music scene for more than two decades, lived on Toronto's busy Yonge Street, where he ran a music academy and studio out of his home.

Police are continuing to investigate his death

back to the HPV topic--1 gal on VJ under the age of 26 went to the interview without the HPV vaccine. They gave her a few options as I recall
1) go get the vaccine and on receipt of documentation, they issue the visa
2) File a waiver!! Get ur Dr. to write something up to back up ur reasons on why u dont want it. The interviewer stated he could not recall a waiver being denied if on ehad a Dr backing u up (but thats only his opnion) keep in mind a waiver still costs $$$ and can take awhile
3) wait till ur over the age that is required!!

They used to do the interviews at all those consulates in Canada, back in the 90's - then decided to have them only at Vancouver/Montreal.

It's silly and I think most people would be happy to pay say a $200 additional fee to do the 10 min interview in say, Calgary, rather than flying all the way to Montreal.

its a money thing and a personnel issue! I'm sure these consulates are not operating at full manning power! We have many friends that work work here at the main State Dept, and they are short! Not enough working bodies, but lots of management types, lol

I can only assume it is so popular in the North because it will actually grow there and keep coming back year after year regardless of the weather. Who doesn't have at least 1 rhubarb plant in their back yard in the great white north??
