CanadaWho do you bank with in the U.S.?
We also have an ING account that we use for savings!! It has been great!! And for once my laziness paid off,lol Awhile back I was suppose to transfer $$$$ from the ING account into one of our "investments" Needless to say that "investment" has gone downhill, lol So for once my laziness saved us big $$$$,lol

CanadaWho do you bank with in the U.S.?
LOVE USAA!! But someone in the family has had to have USA military service I belive!! Just yesterday I dealt with USAA and they were awesome. I hadn't used my USAA acct with CustomHouse (CH)Brokerage yet, so CH had to verify my acct!! Things were going a tad slow, so I called up USAA, the rep said, why dont we do a 3 way phone conversation with CH. So gave USAA Rep the CH #, they called CH up, and had a good chat to see what was exactly CH required, so easy!! Plus I love to be able to scan and secure email in checks!! They have been nothing than fabulous to deal with. Now USAA is an "internet" bank with no actual branches one can walk in to, but one has the ability to scan in checks, or THEY provide postage paid envelopes to send in Checks! As well I can use my USAA debit card at ANY banks ATM, and I dont pay any fees!! I think I'm allowed up to 10 or 15 of those a month, but we rarely use an ATM more than once a month! Nothing but spectacular service, same goes for their car/house insurance

CanadaTN Visa Changes
QUOTE (Marcus Leon @ Jan 6 2009, 05:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I received a new TN Oct/08 in Toronto and it was only for one year. I asked about the three year length and they it was still a one year limit. Any ideas?

http://www.canuckabr...he-usa-vf4.html Probably have better luck on that site, as this site is more directed to relationship style visas!

Welcome to VJ. I collect the $5 from every new member. Just PM me and i will pass along my mailing address!

We look forward to answering questions from "can I visit the USA" "Does my Cdn credit transfer to the USA" And our all time favorite question "Where do I get a police check completed at?" lol But I see you have already read the guides, so ur ahead of the game, lol! welcome to VJ, were a tame bunch here in the Cdn forum. Not so tame in the "off topic" forum, you will be amazed on what some people say!! Welcome

P.s. if your a Leafs fan, the dues are waived, as you probably could use the $$ to put towards a crying towel, as another disappointing season lingers on!! Go Flames Go!!

CanadaMoving Companies Canada to US
Just me talking out of my Butt--but with a CR-1 or IR-1,when u cross the border and activate the Visa, i would think that is the day you are considered a permanent resident of the USA and a non-resident of Canada. I'm sure in the eyes of the USA,ur a permanent resident and I guess it al depends on what Canada thinks!! And like anything else with the govt,it seems it matters on who you talk to and what thier definition is! Look at EI and k1'ers. Soem EI employees are Ok with a K1 with no EAD getting benefits, while another employee says no way jose, you need the EAD document! Hope it all works out

Never said u were stupid. Alberta is a rich province, and housing has been a boom there for many yrs,has slackened the past while.

CanadaThis house is for sale
The thing with houses (among others) everyone has their own taste. As well one has to figure out the neighborhood and the schools! Maybe the house isn't quite what you want, but the neighborhood is super and so are the schools, so you sacrifice a bit on the house to get the better neighborhood/schools! We may not even have kids, but stil want an area that has great schooling for resale value!

Do you know the Calgary market?? I don't that well, I'm just saying it "may" be a good deal. One can't compare Calgary to DC or New jersey! Were looking at houses right now between DC and Baltimore, and expect to pay around $450,000. And a house like that could go around 400,000 or even more, all depending on what area ur looking in. It is all about location and the school districts

Depending on the neighborhood and u liked the house, it could be very well priced.

If I saw the listing, i wouldn't take time to look at it, buts that just me, and my wife hates bi-levels--and she has the final say! lol

Houses in Calgary are not cheap, my sister lives there. Doesn't Bi-level mean lot of stairs? lol I hate stairs and stairs and stairs, lol I noticed when I was in Calgary this past summer--lot more houses on the market in years past, and the prices have come down a bit. Too be honest, i dont care for the exterior look. Depending on the area, price may be ok!

One doesnt need a pile of evidence for the CR-1 (or the k1) few pics, whatever!! At the interview, 99.9% of the tiem they dont ask for anything, and if they do, a few pics seem to suffice

Keep in mind in can take close to a tear for a CR-1 to complete, so you would want to file WELL before he gets back from deployment. As well I belive for military members that are deployed, their is an Expedited route they can take!

that's for sure ...lol

lol, that was a good slip!!

That's the right thread for a Bavarian girl! Tonight I will have Beamish (it's like Guinness, but tastier). Loads of that, it's girl's night out. I don't know what I will do once I'm in the US because I don't like the American beer.
My favorites: Beamish, Guinness, Beck's (only bottled, tastes horribly from tab), Hefeweizen (preferably the dark ones) and any beer from small local breweries here in in Bavaria.

We have a German store close by and they have a decent selection of German Beer!! Love their homemade sausages as well!!

CanadaTwo issues in Canada that I don't understand
I just recently started using those reusable bags! At 1 of the Giant grocery stores by us, you check out a scanner (with ur bonus card), so u scan ur item and place it in ur bag!! When ur done, u goto a self checkout, pay for the items and thats it!! love it!!

CanadaTwo issues in Canada that I don't understand
Sure Winter Tires are the best, but not everyone can afford them. Forcing people to stop smoking is for the best, so why not enact that law as well, that would save many more lives than a winter tire law. People have to learn to adjust their driving to the situations. Just because a sign says you can do 100 km'hr, doesn't mean it is safe to do so.

CanadaTwo issues in Canada that I don't understand
I grew up in Northern Sask, we never had snow tires, just all season tires, and one used common sense--you slowed down! But yes snow tires would probably be best. I'm sure in Quebec the police will have checkpoints and see if they have the proper tires, just as they do in many places looking for seat belts

CanadaPolice Certs & assorted DS-230 questions
One that states a Canada wide search was conducted is suffice. Ensure u phone ahead of time, as not all RCMP/police detachments conduct them. And keep in mind, they all look different, some charge $$, some do not, some are same day service, some a a few days, some a week or so. As well check out the canada Wiki page, I think it has info on this.

CanadaWhat do we know about Employment Insurance
As well if you do get denied (like I originally did) you can fight it! With your denial they include a letter on why you were denied and what your options to contest it are. As I recall one has 3 options:
1) Attend the hearing in person (maybe fine if your in Canada)
2) Attend via phone
3) Write a detailed statement

I went with option #3 and won! I was very specific in my response, believe it was 2 pages worth!!

CanadaNOA2 Recieved... Next Steps Now
With regards to #3, in my opinion, you don't want to give the POE officers any ammo to deny you, thus I would not risk bring to many personal items down to the USA with ya, otherwise they may think you plan on staying

While I do love it there, this is certainly not the time of year to be spending time in that fair (freezing cold) city. LOL
