CanadaSteven Page leaves Barenaked Ladies
Steven Page, the lead singer of Canadian pop group the Barenaked Ladies, has announced that he is leaving the group.

"Yes, it's official. I am no longer a Barenaked Lady. After twenty years (plus a few months), I'm heading out on my own," Page wrote in a post on his official blog.

Page adds that he'll be pursuing solo projects, including a turn as composer for a production of English renaissance play Bartholomew Fair at the Stratford Festival later this summer. He's also recently also performed with the Art of Time Ensemble, a chamber music group, and recorded a children's album with his former band.

The other members of the Barenaked Ladies will continue to perform, according to a statement on the band's official site.

"These guys are my brothers. We've grown up together over the past twenty years. I love them and wish them all the best in the future," Page writes on the band's site.

Page drew negative publicity when he was arrested in upstate New York on felony drug possession charges last July. The charges were later reduced by a judge to a misdemeanour and Page avoided jail time.

The Barenaked Ladies were founded by Page and Ed Robertson in 1988 in Scarborough, Ont. The group broke out with their 1992 album Gordon. The group would go on to sell more than 10-million records worldwide and pen a number of hits including One Week and If I had a $1,000,000

You can usaully get a free consult with a lawyer, and it majority of cases one does NOT need a lawyer. It doesnt get much more clear than this: http://www.visajourn...mp;page=compare when it comes to comparing the visas!

I had not found VJ,and we used a lawyer. She cost us $2500, and that did NOT cover any of the Immigration process fees! In majority of cases all the Lawyer does is PROOF READ ur paperwork! And yes, they will mail you the forms, but you can download the forms for free! YOU still have to gather al the required documents (long form birth cert, Police background check, etc etc) And more than likely your going to be filling out the forms!! Then you will mail the compleetd forms to them (or walk them to them) and they will proof read the forms! lot of $$$ for very little work!!

Here on VJ, there are even pictures of completed out forms (look at the top of the page for EXAMPLE FORMS)

Since he is in the military, see if the lawyers on base can be of any assistance, they might be. Best of luck. The paperwork really isn't that hard, its the waiting that will kill ya,lol

Well I have never done the AOS route, so cant give y amuch help

K3 and cr-1-----Originally the k3 was brought in to get married couples together faster! At ONE time the k3 was much faster,BUT thats no longer the case. Timewise they run along the same time frame, so normally the k3 is a waste! The CR-1 allows one to work right away in the USA (k3 does not) and the CR-1 costs less in the long run! Check out the Comparison link I provided in my previous post

Yes, as others stated, you can STAY in the USA now and do what is caklled Adjust of Status (AOS) but you can't leave the USA until u have reached a certain portion of the process--Well the problem isn't leaving the USA, its the part of coming back into the USa.

OR, you go the k1,k3 or cr-1 routes! You can do this while still visiting the USA. As a canuck you can stay up to 6 months in the USA. So start the paperwork while your here, and whenur 6 months are up, head back to canada. of course you can break that up into smaller visits, dont have to spend 6 months all at once

k1 is a fiance visa--you can't be married
k3 and cr-1 are if you are already married! Some of us, on a visit to the USA got married, and immediately applied for the k3 or cr-1. I went the cr-1 route!

On the main forum page, there are k1,k3, cr-1 forums, and at the top their are guides. take some tiem and read them over. As well check out:

http://www.visajourn...mp;page=compare compares the 3 visas

http://www.visajourn...pecial:AllPages

http://www.visajourn...ndex.php/Canada canadian WIKI pages.

Your interview wil be either in vancouver or Montreal, depending on where u live in canada. If you go the CR-1 route, ALL Canadians goto Montreal.

CanadaAFTER MEDICAL...WAITING FOR INTERVIEW..????QUESTIONS
QUOTE (poprocks @ Feb 27 2009, 08:25 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I originally sent in a ds230 a few months ago, now my lawyers office has me filling out another one.

I have another question... I messed up filling out the DS-160 last night sad.gif

I printed out the completed application, but my session expired before I could print the confirmation receipt. So it was completed ok, but I never printed receipt... and I never entered my email address for it to be emailed to me... I know I know, pretty dumb!

Now I am sending off my entire packet 3 today... with copies of our DS-160's, but my confirmation receipt is missing sad.gif Is this going to be a problem?

I figured I would send it anyways.... at least i'll get logged and placed in que for an interview.

If Montreal does not confirm receipt of this package, how do you know they got it? I mean do you wait 2 months and then call only to find out it was never rec'd?

Thanks for all your help!

You can email them. Ensure you put ur CASE # in the subject line of the email!

QUOTE (MarinaA @ Feb 27 2009, 05:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm waiting for my interview date as well and I'm nervous. I want to know what sort of things they'll ask!

The interview itself is very quick and they ask very basic questions, like how you met, do you work now, what does your spouse do for a living, when do you plan to move, do you plan on working in the USA? All very basic, and majority find it the easiest part of the whole process and 99.9% of time they don't even ask to see evidence (but do bring some).

As i stated in your other thread--email Montreal, with ur case # on subject line, explain that you live in vancouver, and they should transfer ur file to vancouver. This has happened in the past, and they fixed it with no hassle. Ensure u put ur case # in the subject line, it may take a few emails to catch their eye. Best of luck

CanadaTrain to montreal?
QUOTE (Reba @ Feb 28 2009, 11:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
There's a hotel directly across the street from the consulate on Rue Rene Levesque, lots of VJers have stayed there when in Montreal for their interviews. Can't for the life of me remember what it's called, but check out the Hotels review thread in this forum, I"m sure you'll find it there.

The train station is a 15 minute walk (tops!) from the consulate, no need for a taxi or shuttle at all. There's a Sheraton Hotel directly across the street from the station, it's quite nice, but also quite pricey. I used to stay there when I would go to Montreal for business, as our office was right there on the same side of the street as the train station.

La tour centreville! Reviews of it on the hotel thread

I didn't take the train (flew) but at the train station one can catch a shuttle that will drop you off at many of the downtown hotels!

As long as you have all your documents in order you most likely won't have anything to worry about. I got an incredibly horrible person that did the interview for my wife and we were initially told that we'd have to file more paperwork and stuff, but after getting our lawyer to send in the docs that she refused to look at in the first place, my wife's visa was approved. It does depend on the person that you get for the interview but I've only heard of a handful of cases that were like my wife's where they had any trouble at all. Good luck!!!

What proof did they refuse? That sucks! How much longer did it take?

i'm hoping I get someone (preferrably not on a Monday, as it is the most depressing work day of the week)... and that they have a happy home life.... not someone who's wife just told him off before he left for work and he hasn't gotten lucky in 4 months lol! Just kidding... my problem is that I deal with stress with humour... i'll have to keep the jokes to a minimum blush.gif

Majority of people find the interview the easiest part of the whole process

CanadaGeneral Consensus on Interviews and approvals in Canada
The Interview for us canucks is 99.999% of the time PAINLESS!! 99.99% of the tiem at interview, they do not even ask for evidence (pictures, letters, etc) Lucky if the interview lasts 10 minutes, and majority of that time it is silence, just the interviewer looking over your paperwork. Lot of my interview time was spent talking about where the interviewer had been posted. The people that seem to have problems are the ones with over stays, or have had DUI's or other criminal problems that require waivers!

An expandable folder is best, with tabs at the top so that you have easy access to what's in the slot. I actually had Choice #2, and then had the last folder slot with some of what you have in Choice #1. In that folder I just had about 4 pictures, copies of a few cards/letters/email, a copy of my engagement ring reciept, some boarding passes from trips made after the initial petition. Hmm, maybe a sampling of phone records. That's it. They didn't look at any of my supporting documentation.

When you get to the interivew, they hand you a one page sheet, and ask that you put your documents as described on the sheet in that order. I don't have the sheet anymore, don't know if anyone does? You just hand that stuff in with your passport, go pay for your visa, then come back and wait to be called. Then you have your interview, which for many is like 5 min. blink.gif Then they say you have it or what more they need. Done!

In the binder, it's all in sheet protectors, so it's real easy to take things in & out. I think I may change the binder around to be more like choice #2... kind of like what you did.

I'm also going to make sure that we have 2 copies of almost everything, just in case.

I've heard we get the photos back. Do we get the letters and such back, too?

Thank you SO much for your information!

They are not going to keep any of your evidence. In majority of times, they DO NOT even ask to see any of it!
