I do not know the whole story, but most of it,lol! My mom used to work with this younger gal who was dating an American! On one visit, she went down and stayed for approx 1.5 yrs. Came back to Canada, and then made more trips to the USA! Well just recently on her way back to the USA from SK--Her POE was Minneapolis and she got stopped!! Taken aside and interviewed for a few hours and the end result--barred from the USA for 5 years! She still thinks the USA customs dude were wrong! So Canucks do get barred as well!!
Last I checked, Canada is a separate nation from the US, not a colony of it. So no news that a Canadian can (or does) get refused entry or barred.

The fact that she stayed 18 months undocumented may have something to do with her getting barred--depending on mood, the official could easily have instituted a lifetime ban.

I'm glad the last time you checked canada was its own nation Cherry XS!! Reason I posted was that many feel Canadians are immune to immigration bans!

CanadaMontreal interviews...
Congrats on the date!! I bought a plastic 13 fiel folder to put al my ####### into! had brought evidence of the relationship like travel receipts, pictures ,letters, not a lot of each thing but a few. They never asked to see any of it. Good to have some, but dont get carried away! Plus you have a baby together, dont need much more evidence than that, lol It is a very easy interview, last 10 minutes if that. most of your time at the consulate is spent waiting for your # to be called

CanadaYou know your from Saskatchewan when...........
You know you're from Saskatchewan when...

You wake up, start the truck and THEN hop in the shower.

It's -45 outside and you're still in the mood for a Slushie.

Your car trunk doubles as a deep freeze. (This is too true - one more day of nice weather last week and that would have been the end of my turkey!

You spend more time and money planning for Craven than for Christmas.

Your town buys a Zamboni before a bus.

You see no problem in cheering for Edmonton during the NHL season and despising Edmonton during the CFL season.

Your idea of a traffic jam is 10 cars waiting to pass a combine on the highway.

You remember Beep.

The annual family reunion is at the Labour Day Classic.

You don't find anything funny about the word "Regina."

You've been playing crib since you were eight.

You are asked if you know "Chris" from "Maymont," and you do.

The wedding date is changed after the Riders release their home schedule.

The local paper covers national and international news on one page but requires six pages for hockey.

You are upset when an outsider doesn't know the difference between a farmer and a rancher.

You live in a house that has no front step, yet the front door is one metre off the ground... no-one uses the front door anyway.

Your home town has a fully functional hockey rink, curling rink and church, but the school is closed.

Driver's Ed was a joke because you and your classmates had been driving since you were 10.

Your first car was pulled out of the bush, given a shot of ether and a can of Wynn's.

You say, "Ring those phones!" and "Where are we going?" and everybody knows to shout: "Higher!"

Whenever you're going to a buddy's place anywhere but Regina or Saskatoon, it's "just off Main Street."

90 per cent of your tools were bought at Princess Auto and the other 10 per cent at the local Co-op

CanadaBoyfriend or Fiance?
And thats what one deserves for lying!!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2009-02-16 10:55:00
CanadaBoyfriend or Fiance?
1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer
2) Be confident in ur replies
3)keep ur response short and to the point, dont tell ur life story!!
4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!
5)pack light! No job resumes with you
6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)
7) Always be polite, being rude isnt going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!
8) have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didnt lie! Refer to #1

Many times they would ask me "business or pleasure?" So I would say something like "pleasure, returning to canada on march 5" And normally that was about it!! As stated above, be confident in your response, and look them in their eye, or at them, don't be all fidgety!! Keep it short and sweet to the point. And tell the truth! Much easier to remember the truth than a lie! So if you do get pulled aside for further questions, you wont be back peddling!! You lie and they catch ya, and if they are in a crappy mood they ban you! Were as if u tell the truth, be polite, they wil most likely allow you entry, or just deny ur entry! And remember bring evidence that you will be returning to Canada. Best of luck

I thought this was an interesting read:

I just called the Canadian division of TransUnion at 1-800-663-9980.

This is how the convo went:

Rep: Hello my name is Jay how can I be of service?
Me: Just had a question for you...if you move from the States to Canada, can your debts and credit rating follow you?
Rep: Uh...what? Sorry sir I don't understand.
Me: If you are currently living in the States and you move to Canada, does your credit score from the U.S. follow you to Canada or do you start from scratch?
Rep: Uhm...I'm sorry sir we're not allowed to comment on that. You would have to contact your financial institution in the U.S.
Me: So if someone skipped out on taxes or credit card debt you don't know if it would follow you to Canada?
Rep: You should call VISA or your bank for this info.
Me: What about your credit rating?
Rep: We can't comment on that.
Me: Ok thanks...*click*

So something fishy there. Loop hole?

I haven't read all these pages.
After reading this I can add something from my experience.
And with that info do what you will (you meaning whoever). smile.gif

Each bank in Canada and the U.S. (I do not throw in other countries because I don't know if this applies) has a number.
It is called an ABA (transit or routing number).
They use this number to link up in case you want the bank to transfer money for you, and not use cheques, or money orders.
This is a good thing when dealing with a large amount....or maybe even a small amount. Whatever. tongue.gif
So in other words, banks are connected and they can know what is going on from one to another.

The operator just needs to punch a different sequence of numbers then they usually do, and so do not want to be bothered unless you insist...storngly sometimes. tongue.gif

Credit reports can cross borders.
Verizon did it for me when I got a U.S. phone way back in 2005 for personal reasons.
I had no U.S. bank at that moment (although I got one a month later, just because I was travelling in and out often).
I got both without a SSN and permanent U.S. residence.
As I was saying Verizon somehow did run a credit check on me from the U.S. across the border to Canada.

This year, AT&T (buggers!!) said they could not do that for me (I got an iPhone and it only works with AT&T), and that I would have to give them $500 deposit.
I told them that it is totally possible and they were not willing to do that. headbonk.gif
My partner (the USC) wanted to do a family plan anyways, and we put the bill under his name.

I have not tried anything like that from Canada to the U.S. just because I didn't need to.
And when we move back (maybe one day....) I will be most interested to have my current credit rating follow me from here.
Who knows...

Does this help at all??
star_smile.gif

In the end, only a person's conscience will guide them as to how to handle something.

MY GOD!!!! you have a Iphone!!! I thought u were a ttl sea going hippy!!! lol I'm only kidding! Next thing you know, you have a TV!!!!

I dont see anything wrong with credit cards--as long as ur using them correctly. We keep a zero balance. We pay al our bills for th emost part via CC, thus get soempretty decent rewards from using them. One credit cards points got me a free trip back to Canada last summer.

CanadaDitching/Abandoning Canadian Debt while living is U.S.
What can ya say? I feel bad for people that lack values/morals, whatever you want to call it. It is people like this that put a strain on the system, they abuse it, so others suffer. They gave CC/banks the ammo they need to justify why they have to charge high interest rates; which doesn't affect me as I carry a zero balance. But I feel for people that do suffer from day to day trying to pay their bills and exist proudly/honorably in this society. As a RN student I see people in the hospital with no insurance stressed on how they are going to pay for their stay. Many of them will get second jobs and do the best they can. So maybe you can get away without paying ur bills, who knows, but next time you read in the paper about a single mom barely getting by, cant pay her minimum balance because of the sky rocket interest rates, you can give urself a pat on the back, thanks to you, your part of the problem!

CanadaHow did you guys do for your Canadian Tax return?
I found it to be no different than in any other year as if one was filing as single (and yes ur married) Yes, u can't claim ur USA spouse, so to ensure she doesnt get any credit, just ensure you put a value over that $9600. I just converted her USA income to Cdn income, thus the computer software I was using at the time, didn't allow me to claim any credits on her behalf. Can't recal the tax software I used, but my tax situation was fairly forward!

On my tax soft ware, to make it work, filed as married, had to put in 000 000 000 for her SIN, converted her USA income to CDn, (Ensure its over that $9600 personal amt)and put it in the required box, and then went about doing it as in any other yr I filed taxes. I wrote on the tax form in the very small writing, my spouse is a USA citizen, has never resided in Canada, nor worked for a Cdn employer! I attached a quick cover letter as well explaining the situation! I got most of my info from Calling Revenue Canada, which were pretty good to deal with. There is also a topic on the canada forum started by Zyggy on tax stuff

CanadaQuestion about Canadian Taxes for 2008
QUOTE (Udella&Wiz @ Feb 23 2009, 10:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I had the same issue when trying to netfile last year, just print your return and mail it....I know, kind of defeats the purpose! You do need to let the Cdn Government know you've moved though eventually for taxes purposes. The poster above who suggests changing it back to a Cdn address is probably the easiest solution for now.

The poster above?? That is the Queen of the Cdn forum, so please dont address her majesty as the "poster above"!! Show respect to the throne! lol

CanadaJuicer Recipes???
Made a few things with my new juicer and wow, surprised on how great they do taste! The machine itself works great, very powerful motor and isn't overly loud. The one complaint many had of this juicer was that it is a tad high--15 inches. But doesnt take up much counter space, one just has to ensure they have the clearance space! And yes, it does waste a lot of the fruit/veggies! But the way I look at it, if it helps increase our intake of fruits/veggies, its a good thing! Easy to assemble and clean. 2 thumbs up!!

CanadaSteven Page leaves Barenaked Ladies
Steven Page, the lead singer of Canadian pop group the Barenaked Ladies, has announced that he is leaving the group.

"Yes, it's official. I am no longer a Barenaked Lady. After twenty years (plus a few months), I'm heading out on my own," Page wrote in a post on his official blog.

Page adds that he'll be pursuing solo projects, including a turn as composer for a production of English renaissance play Bartholomew Fair at the Stratford Festival later this summer. He's also recently also performed with the Art of Time Ensemble, a chamber music group, and recorded a children's album with his former band.

The other members of the Barenaked Ladies will continue to perform, according to a statement on the band's official site.

"These guys are my brothers. We've grown up together over the past twenty years. I love them and wish them all the best in the future," Page writes on the band's site.

Page drew negative publicity when he was arrested in upstate New York on felony drug possession charges last July. The charges were later reduced by a judge to a misdemeanour and Page avoided jail time.

The Barenaked Ladies were founded by Page and Ed Robertson in 1988 in Scarborough, Ont. The group broke out with their 1992 album Gordon. The group would go on to sell more than 10-million records worldwide and pen a number of hits including One Week and If I had a $1,000,000
