CanadaComing up on Citizenship
QUOTE (AntandD @ Apr 14 2009, 09:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi Everyone,

Likewise, I would like to know of the same too, as my earliest date to apply for US citizenship is coming up soon, in August 2009.

I'm in the process of filling out the forms and gathering the evidence for that now. Do I have to gather as much evidence as I did for the I-751, or do less than that? What other types of evidence do I have to include, besides the manditory ones listed on the USCIS website for the N-400 (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, lease/mortgage, bank statements, tax returns, etc.)?

What do they ask for during the interview? What do they ask for during the oath ceremony?

What else should I expect during this N-400 citizenship process?

Any other advice, suggestions, hints, tips, etc.? Thanks.

And yes, I'm looking forward to becoming a Canadian/US dual citizen soon!

Lol..now if only they could approve my I-751 case first...mad.gif
As frankly I'm not in the mood now to surrender another $670, since they 'stole' my $545 for the I-751 and I have still been waiting (for the last 8 months+) for this step's approval.....What a rip off, I agree!!! mad.gif

Ant (Still waiting for I-751, Still waiting for Baby...)

What I wanted to know is - in your experience when is it best to get all of the paperwork together? Do they change the forms often enough to where I should wait - or would it be fine to begin prepping everything and putting together lease documents, photos etc now?
I am getting excited here and I want to make sure everything is tight and put away for the big day.

Interview: Didnt last very long. Did the test first, asked me 10 questions---which came from the USCIS website, very easy. Asked to write "I drink to much coffee." Was a very quick interview. I passed, but due to an extra fiel on my case, they had to investigate that.

Oath ceremony: Signed in, took away the greencard, went to a room with others. Then tyhe ceremony started, blah blah, lol i wasnt exactly paying attention, stated the oath of alliegince, watched a video, got our naturalization cert, family members could take pics. Ceremony it self was around 30 min, most of the time was spent waiting.

Check out the citizinship forum on VJ, many have asked the same questions. I thought it was a very easy process. I didnt get carried awy with evidence, utility bills, mortgage paperwork, paperwork for insurance. best of luck

CanadaComing up on Citizenship
I filed for my USA citizenship many months after I was able to. It was a very easy process, filling out the form wasn't that difficult. It took me approx 6 months from start to finish, and that included postponing my biometrics because I was going on holidays, and then having to wait a bit longer for my oath ceremony, because at the interview, they noticed their was an "extra file" on my case (no clue what it was), so instead of having my oath ceremony the very same day of the interview (not al places do that) I had to wait a bit longer, wasn't a big deal to me. Best of luck

CanadaIn your Montreal Interview, were you asked about visits to the US?
I was aksed, and i sated I travelled to DC monthly, wasnt a big deal. No need for a lawyer at the interview, for 99.99999% of people it is a very easy interview with very few questions asked.

your best bet to get a photo--is find a small mom/pop camera store, which can be hard to find! I know place by me that does them! As well any sort of professional photographer with a studio should be able to do them, but maybe not as cheap as one can get done at a retail store

CanadaWhat do you do?
Back in Canada I was in the cdn Armed Forces. Started in the reserves while in High school, then transferred over to the Regular Force navy,, working in the operations room, working with various electronics gear, did that for 7 or 8 years, then applied for and was selected to become a Airborne Electronics Sensor operator in the Air force. Flew on the CP 140 Aurora (P3C) Awesome job, nothing like being down at 100 ft above the ocean, lol with everyone eyes fixed at the altitude meter, lol needless to say, one doesn't turn that low, just straight and fast, lol not so bad in the days, different story at night. Was an awesome job, miss it a lot. During my career, I guess my highlites were doing UN peacekeeping in Croatia in 1993 and being selected to become an AESop as it is a very difficult trade to get accepted into. Back then you had to be in the Forces to be selected, but just this past year, they opened it up to new recruits as well. Been here since DEC 2004, and I haven't really worked. ref'd hockey for 1 winter and then did a bit of yard work for a few people, but 1 of them I was more like a companion, just watched TV and got paid for it,lol She would take me out to lunch to some pretty cool places, almost felt bad taking her $$$, but they were loaded. 16 days and I will have completed my RN program!! Then i guess I should get a job, but I'm not that concerned, still have to pass the big national standard exam--NCLEX,which will write in July.

Canadawhy did u choose to live in US instead of Canada?
I dont think I moved just for the $$$$, well not at all in reality.lol! Housing is soooooo much cheaper in NS than it is here in DC. But what my wife does here in the USA, she can't do in Canada. So it sort of made more sense for me to start at square 1,than her, otherwise she may have just waisted $$$ getting her masters at Georgetown, plus I guess she has a better chance at growth, and its a pretty much 100% recession proof job, even though that wasn't even a concern a few yrs back. And she has family around here, and I was in NS and al my family are in the western part of canada, so it didnt really matter if I live here or in NS. Plus a lot more stability here. With the Air Force, could be posted to numerous places.

Canadawhy did u choose to live in US instead of Canada?
I was in the cdn Air force, which of course means one can be away from home for weeks, to months on end! Wife has a super education and a great job which is pretty much 100% recession proof, lol so it just made more sense to move here and for me to start over.
