Well it turns out the envelope was meant for me, as it does not contain any of my medical documents. The mass isn't a mass at all its my heart and they I have some congenital defect that I wasn't aware of. So I was not issued a visa today, Working Medical won't forward my medical papers to the embassy until they know I've had my doctor look at it and fix it the best he can. And now, I am stressed lol

wow!! Why couldn't they have told you this before you got to the interview?? Best to get it all looked after in Canada! Best of luck

Now, if we wanted to, could we go south and drive across the US to Montreal?

Yeah you definitely could. You just couldn't drive back that way since you don't have your passport (they keep it). Unless they gave it back to you the next day and since you are CR1 you have multiple entries.

Good luck.

That's good to hear. Our hopes would be that our interview is after September (some family stuff that month), so that we can just take all of our ####### with us to Montreal, have the interview, then move to Florida.

kep in mind in 99% of times you dont get the visa that day or next anymore---they mail it to you!! And of course the visa is in ur Cdn passport!! One can always ask to pick it up, and a few have been successful, but you would not know until you were at the interview! AND they are NOT always prompt at mailing the passport/visa out!!

Yes, that is in the back of my mind - but I can dream, surely?

u can dream, but I wouldn't be taking all my belongings to Mtl,lol Most get thier pkg in a few days, some have had to wait much longer!!!

Thank you all for your thoughts...

I'd did nursing school for two years here, but left because of complications with OSAP and money...now that I'm on my feet and can afford to go to school (soon, anyway) I'd like to get my RN degree in two years instead of the 4 years here...that is what is appealing to me....

but yes, it does in part have to do with being with him, and living with him before we get engaged

Thanks again!

Just finished my ADN (Associates) in Nursing (RN) If you already have a BSN in some other area (not nursing obviously, lol), there are some accelerated programs that one can finish in a yr, pretty intense course load. Hopefully some of ur classes can transfer over. The out of state rate is almost triple what the instate tuition is at my school. Best of luck

I think I have all that info ready except for the police check.

What is the Valid Passport Biographic Data Page?

And the whole proof of domicile thing. How does one go about that when we all live in Canada? She didn't pay any taxes last year or file because she didn't work.

They put the "visa" inside you Cdn passport. I belive the official statement is that ur Cdn passport must be valid for at least 6 months! Mine was good for about a yr, BUT i still went and got a new 1. Guy at the passport desk asked why I wanted to renew it soo early, I explained the situation, and he was ok with it!

Ype quitting to far in advance is not good! as wel if ur gettign EI in canada, if one goes to visit--in other words not looking for work, ur suppose to infor the EI people, thus no $$$$

Hey guys! Thanks so much for all the advice, I'm still going through my options in my head, but I do have a small update :

I spoke with the officer in charge of security clearances on base today, and she informed me that as far as she knows, even though the website says I cannot be a dual citizen I do not have to officially give up my Canadian Citizenship, but just state that I will if need be and also will have to have my passport shredded in front of me. (Not sure what the point of the shredding of my passport would be, but yeah....)
Anyways, she said she'd have a definite answer for me in the next couple days, until then I'm just weighing my options and hoping for the best good.gif

lol, like I said, give up the Cdn passport, lol Ur just out $100, can always get another later!!

Welcome to VJ. This has to be the @#1 question asked on the Canada forum "can I visit the USA while the visa paperwork is pending?" lol majority have no problems at all, some do get questioned a bit more and the odd one does get denied entry--mostly because they have no evidence of ties to canada with them! I traveled monthly from Halifax to DC and never had 1 problem, but thats just me--For my free advice, read my signature below! ONE thing you NEVER want to do is lie!! They catch u in a lie, they can then ban you, then ur in for a real mess! beign denied entry (while telling the truth) isnt a big deal, but being banned is!! Always easier to remember the truth!! Best of luck and welcome to VJ, were a pretty tame/fun bunch in the canada section. Just don't cut down Tim Hortons coffee and you will fit in fine, lol

As a nurse, i hate readign Doctors orders (nothign to to with above mentioned job) as the majority of the time you can't read them! So you ask another nurses what they think it is,lol or you call the Dr up!!

is it true that doctors write very badly incase of lawsuits the lawyers cant even read the reports so its kinda to save their butts in court?

I don't think so---unreadable writing would prob do more damage than good!! As a RN on a unit, one gets used to a Doctor and gets used to what drugs and orders a certain patient is going to get. I have been told its a skill one will adapt to,lol But as a new RN, you look at these squiggly lines, and you just have to shake ur head. Soem hospitals are going to all electronic orders, which would be super, no more guessing.

You need an american bank account, you could use ur husbands, just need his banking information I would think. or try another bank to set up ur own account. I opened one with Wachovia, and they didn't require that I have a SSN!!

To confirm that you can just use ur husbands acct (even though ur not on it) just call up customhouse, they are extremely friendly/professional!! They are out of Victoria BC!

So I was going to sign up for an account here today, but I was wondering something. I will want to transfer money from my Canadian account down to my US one (from EI) - so when I sign up, should I still say I'm in the US? because I don't need to transfer money back to Canada?

Or am I able to transfer money both ways between the accounts? (does my question make sense lol?)

you can exchange $$$ both ways, but its an extra step I believe!! When I first signed up, I was transferring $$ from Canada to the USA! later on, I wanted to send $$ to my Cdn acct, I believe I just called them up on the phone and we sorted it out.

Ty again!! here in the DC region there are quite a # of nursing schools in the area, plus with the economy down, some hospitals/floors the patient census is down, thus they dont require a full staff. Now if the floors were full, they would be short, but thats not the case right now around here.

Howdy, Wrote the dread NCLEX yesterday, an exam all "RN" students must write and pass before they can call themselves a "RN" and I passed, whewwwww!! And even have a job lined up on a cardiac unit. Don't start till Aug 24th,thus time to drive up to RI spend a few days there, then fly from Bostom to Saskatoon and chill for a bit, and of course get my fill of Tim Horton's coffee!! I'm pretty excited about the job, I know a lot of new RN's in the DC area having a hard time finding employment in these tough times. In yrs past, one would easily have their choice of jobs, but not currently!! Time to go burn some notes!

I understand that. Someone did that in another thread here, but came back and kind of said why they did it. Think it was the Gardisil thread. I also know that on at least one occassion in the K-1 forum, someone posted PM's to someone about their situation, which the person took and did, and they ended up getting a denial. We can't protect everyone, so I guess it's just up to the OP whether to take information on a PM as the truth.

I can see your point though flames. Ruffle away!

Have to check with ur State,as they vary---but usually after 30 days one has to register their vehicle in the USA and get a drivers license of that state! Getting a drivers license is usually not a problem--again depending on the State, it may be a simple 1 for 1 exchange, OR they may make u write a test, which may or may not include a drivers test!!! so be prepared for that! Some DMV's want prrof that u reside in that Stae as well--like a utility bill with ur name on it. I know VA did!

Yes your problems wil prob arise when u try and register your car in that State. They will want to see the title, which, of course you won't have!! I'm sure 1 could just keep their cdn drivers license and insurance, BUT if u were to get into an accident, you may then have bigger problems if they found out you had been residing in the USA all this time without registering ur vehicle. WOuld they investigate and find that out?? who knows!! I'm sure others will have better info! I pretty much gave away my Nissan Spec V prior to moving as I didnt want the hassle.

Don't forget u need the letter from the manufacturer stating it is compliant. The actual name of it slips my tiny male brain
