CanadaWhich is easier? K-1 or K-3?
The k1 should be the fastest route!! "should be" is the key term, lol, when it comes to immigration, nothing is nornmal, lol But to keep things simple, the k1 should be the fastest route

With any of the visas, you CAN visit!! So if you do the cr-1 and want to visit for up to 6 months, go for it! Its all up to the port of entry (POE) officer to let you in or not. Many of us visited with no problems--ensure you bring ties to canada (ie letter from employer, bills, mortgage/lease agreement, immigration paperwork))

in that link I posted before, it gave you the + and - of each visa, ENSURE you look over that. k1 you HAVE toget married in the USA AFTER the interview. and of course with the cr-1 you already have to be married, but can do that in the USA or canada. CR-1 has a lot less restrictions than the k1, again, look over that link I previously posted.

CanadaWhich is easier? K-1 or K-3?
http://www.visajourn...mp;page=compare

it is the cr-1 that allows one to work right away--not the k3. Each has thier own situation to go by. some need to work right away, so the cr-1 is more beneficial. Some need to be able to travel outside the USA right away, and since the k1 is a ONE time entry, they have to go the k3 or cr-1 route. The link aboe gives the plus and negatives of each. The less $$$$$ visa is the cr-1, and prob the least paperwork hassles of the all, but it can take the longest!! If everything goes in order as it is suppose to-----K1 would be the fastest route. One has to sit down and make their decision thats best for them.

CanadaCanadians for US Naturalization/Citizenship....
1) One doesn't have to give up CDN citizenship, and its 1 thing I would NEVER do!

2) I am an USA citizen, but don't really want to be, but not going into details on that!

3) I consider myself 100% Cdn! I actually forget that i have USA citizenship!

4) the process was very simple and fast, i was actually hoping it would take a bit longer, lol Don't waste $$$ on buying books, study cards for the interview. The questions they ask can ALL be found on the USCIS website.

yep, I was surprised how quick/painless it was even from the USA! I sent mine from VA, just regular old snail mail, and only took a few weeks!

Damn, it used to be such a pain in the #### to get the passport from inside the US. It was hard to meet the guarntor thing here and getting people in Canada that remembered me to sign was just as hard. Last time my dad had to ask someone at his church if they could do it since he was a freaking vet. The guy knew me when I was a little kid and that was it. Without my parents I would never have gotten a new passport.

Good to know it's made easier nowdays, not sure how long is left on mine, but doubt I'll bother to renew it...

its only easy if ur current passport is NOT expired, totally different ballgame if it is!! I belive eventually they are coming out with a 10 yr passport!

I think we waited about 3 months to register our car and insure it here - I called Geico - Allstate was cheaper for the same coverage.

We are going to go with Allstate once I trans over all my stuff to US....fiance is with them now....and it will only cost $600 for the year to add my car.... but I assume they will only do US registered vehicles?

I had heard that Geico will insure a Canadian car and driver in US, that's why I called them.

I wonder if Allstate will do it? I should call my agent tmrw?

It's also gonna be about 4 months post move before I register in PA...I hope the DMV doesn't give me problems sad.gif lol...

with car insurance in the USA, it can really pay (or save) to phone around and get multiple quotes, the difference can be quite high!

CanadaHawaii Honeymoon, Anyone from this forum stay in Waikiki??
Yes, Hanuama bay rocks--get a water prrof disposable camera. One can purchase fish food there and they will come right up to you, soo many beautiful colors of fish!! As well the Polynesian cultural centre is awesome!! http://www.polynesia.com/

Been there man times when I was with the Cdn navy, and to be honest, not a favorite place of mine, lol but i'm sure many wil disagree. Waikiki is fun, but I think if one goes to some of the smaller islands, it would be much more enjoyable and less touristry. Not get me wrong, you will have a good time

CanadaPositive TP test, negative X-Ray, anti-biotic for 6 months.
It doersnt ALWAYS mean its sa false positive test, it CAN mean that u have TB, but its just not active--cant give it to anyone else! The next step after a positive PPD should mean an X-ray which can confirm it! And yes another reason for a positive PPD is getting that vaccine that Kirikit mentioned! Which they wil prob follow up with a Xray! From my school readings after a Positive PPD, they don't automatically start you on drugs, usually the Xray, then if required drugs, which can last for 6-9 months!!

Usually having a letter from your employer is the first line of "defense" in providing evidence of ties to Canada when visiting. You don't say when you applied for the visa, what Consulate you will be interviewed in. When you are being laid off, and when you are going for your extended visit. If it's only going to be a month or two before when you think you'll get your interview, having your visa application package with you might help in terms of evidence of your returning to Canada for the interview. You might have some problems with answering questions if you're going for a lengthy visit and you've already left your job and have your things in storage. If you have letters or appointment cards for future Dr.'s or Dentist appointments, perhaps some up-to-date utility bills, bank statements...that might help.

We originally applied for the visa in May, but the application was never received, so we sent the application in again at the beginning of July. I will most likely be laid off at the beginning of October and plan on heading down to GA where my fiance lives mid Oct. He is active military, so he is going to call to see if we can get an expedite. I will be interviewing at the Montreal Consulate.

I do have a plan "B" just in case, but it would be nice to spend my time waiting with him smile.gif

I'm all for military guys getting expedited, but usually they have to be deploying soon for that to happen! But it doesnt hurt to ask/try

Keep in mind, if u asked to be laid off, well ahead of getting approved for ur visa, most likely no EI for u!!

I did ask to be laid off, but found out that I was on the chopping block anyway and there is going to be a fairly significant nymber of people laid off at the same time, so hoepfully I shouldn't have an issue with getting EI. Because I will get a faily decent severance package, I don't think I will be able to claim EI straight away.

I believe one ahs a certain period to apply for EI. I know 1 member quit in advance, and the EI people deemed she had quite too soon! But ur case is different if they are laying u off. But I think one still has to apply within a certain timeframe. And I believe they do take into account ones severance pkg! Doesnt hurt to contact EI and find out.

so when u compare their rates with other places,is it a good deal?

Basically, it cuts out the middleman. Think wholesale as opposed to retail. CH works with a fluctuating exchange rate. The banks pick one rate for the day and stick with it. Then they add on their revenue markup. In contrast, Custom House follows the market throughout the day, so you can pick a preferred exchange rate and they will contact you when it reaches that point. Or, if you're just doing a small trade, you can refresh the exchange rate and then decide when to lock in. What happened with me was the broker basically watched the market for me (this is for large $$ amounts only), then called when he perceived that this was the best exchange rate for my situation. They're a fabulous organization.

staff is in Victoria BC,very professional, will even walk you thru registration and making trades, al of which is very easy!!

I used to make a trade feel like a casino game, lol. you state how much $$ you want to transfer, and it gives you the rate, BUT that rate quoted is only good for like 30 seconds, as well there isa REFRESH button, so if ya feel lucky, hit refresh, the rate my go up, down or chg,lol you can press it all day long, if ya want, lol OR just cancel the trade all together

I to compare CH rates to what Wachovia would give me--and CH was always better! As well I checked what Bank of Montreal would give me a few times, and again CH was better!

Some banks may not charge you a fee, BUT their exchange rate may be sub par! Some will charge a fee and the rate sub par,lol

What i found truly frustrating with American banks when it came to giving them a Cdn cheque, was that 99% of the staff was clueless!! Some would try to charge me a fee, up to $75!!! 1 time i thought it all went well,BUT 2 weeks later in the mail, i recieved the cheques back, stating since they were less than $200 in total, I couldnt cash them, and they just debited my account for the amt of the cheques! I learned to goto the same Wachovia branc, and deal with ONE teller. if she wasn't there, I just left, lol Then I found CH!! ahhhhh relief!!

Love Customhouse.com. Been using it since 2005!! I keep an acct open back in Canada-keep my balance under $1 majority of time, and of course top it up when visiting Canada! Left a bank card with my folks, so if they need to deposit any Cdn $$$, they have access, ya know for birthdays,or they want me to pick something up for them, and then to repay me, use the card!
