lol I guess your referring to the signs and stuff like that!! Guess when it comes to actual speaking, it sure isnt bilingual, lol

1 reason when i fly back to canada i don't fly Air Canada--dont have to listen to everything repeated in French, lol

Only things I saw that were in English were the directions on some of the highway signs (North, South etc.). We were given wrong directions. It was funny on the train. As soon as we passed through the Ontario/Quebec border, suddenly the announcements were only in french, and the attendants stopped speaking English. Oh well. The city looked nice, but the people were rude. I'm not going back there again if I can help it tongue.gif

Talk to Charles, I think he won Quebec on a Tims hortons roll up the rim to win cup!!

ya, we have noisey neighbers above as too. We never use dto hear them, BUT now their baby is like 2 yrs old and runs and runs and runs, and jumps and jumps and jumps!! I like kids and I know they are hard to control, but a few times we have had to very politely tell them how loud he is! We do this in a very extremely polite way, I really hate confrontations. last time, kids had been loud for like 2 hours, so my wife went and knowcked on the door, and the lady asks who is it? My wife responds ur downstairs neighbor. The lady swings open the door and starts SCREAMING and SCREAMING at my wife, she just lost it on my wife! The husband quickly comes to the door, tells his wife hwe wil handle it--she leaves crying, and he apologizes and apologizes, he stated that she is under a lot of stress. For the rest of the day, the wife stomped around like a 2 yr old,lol was pretty pathetic. Hopefully not to much longer, and we wil rent it out and buy a house.

Myex worked for an unemployment company--helped the unemployed get retrianed and find work---and I recall her stating that majority of available jobs are not posted anywhere. So just sittign on ur butt and looking at the paper/internet isnt always the best method.

So what are you supposed to do then? Drive around, waste gas, and try to find "help" signs? laughing.gif

I'm pretty sure a majority of DECENT employers have money to advertise in the paper or the internet.

According to their research that wasn't the case, DECENT companies didnt have to post jobs as they had a steady supply of resumes. I have never really ever looked for a job, so who knows, lol

CanadaDear Montreal Consulate
In yrs past it had been mentioned that some of the consulate workers knew about VJ. Thats why I'm surprised that some say certain things that could incriminate them, ie getting someone to forge a signature for gaurdisil stating they gave it to you, when they didnt!, very easy to track down that person, if they wanted to. And soem people wonder why it takes them longer.Seriously, if your working ur butt off, and you knew people were slagging you, you might just skip over that file or take a bit longer doing it.

Toilet paper!!!!!!! A whole suitcase full of it!! When I first moved down here I couldnt find any TP I liked! So on one trip back to Stoon I brought back a full suitcase of my favorite TP!! I went thru Toronto Pearson and at that time (maybe still??) if u were flying to DC, all ur luggage was hand searched, even ur checked luggage@! The Security person had the strangest look on her face when she opened up the suitcase, lol Since then i have found Costco brand to be more than acceptable, lol

CanadaImporting a Vehicle: Is the compliance letter always necessary?
As I recall, 1 person had the sticker on the car,and when they got to the border, the POE guard wanted the letter, the sticker wasn't good enough for him! But one goes to 10 other Poe's, and 9/10 say the sticker is fine!!

CanadaNovember 11 - Remembrance Day/Veteran's Day
I admit I'm not that great with past history, but there is one radio show I enjoy listening to on the radio here in the DC area and at times I'm rdy to strangle the DJ's! Every now and then they go on about the great WW on how great the USA military was, saving the world, and yes they helped a great deal, BUT many countries were long involved before the USA was!!

On the bright side, I looked after a WWII vet last week at the hospital and want an honor it was!

Yeah, I got the flu in late April.

No way to know conclusively if it was H1N1, of course, but I suspect it was.

I imagine you must get annoyed with people who call common colds "the flu". So many people don't realize there's a huge difference...

No I dont get annoyed, find it a bit amusing. Some people are just overly dramatic, lol What i find annoying are those that dont take the flu or H1N1 or other types seriously! People are dying from this and many are the younger generation. AND i'm not saying getting vaccinated is the answer. i did get the normal flu shot, but have yet to get the H1N1 shot as the times I could have gotten it at work where not suitable for my night shift. No way am I coming to work for noon to get a shot, lol The joys of night shift!

Only TWO consulates in canada do K1 interviews Montreal and Vancouver. There other consulates do NOT conduct interviews! Which consulate you goto is based on where you live in Canada! Mb and west to Vancouver, and Ont East to Mtl! Now some that started living in the east have gotten their file transfered to Vancouver because they have moved West. And I'm sure some gave a West coast address, to get it changed, lol But Halifax is 100% not an option!

Where are the facts that they were wrong at first? Yes they were proven wrong in the end by DNA. I'm no expert with regards to Kenya, but i'm lead to belive it isnt a technology advanced place. Just doing a quick google check, a DNA test can take 2-4 weeks. Unlike TV shows such as CSI, test results are not immediately available.

And do border guards "profile" people?? I'm sure they do, as their is actual facts that state certain people from certain countries are more likely to attempt to gain illegal entry into a country. Don't get mad at the people enforcing the rules, get angry at the people that are breaking them, and giving those people a bad reputation.
As I stated before, it could have been handled better and a bit faster, but ur not going to see lightning fast results as one sees on TV.

Not sure what you mean by "Canada doesnt deserve the benefit of doubt on this one?" I'm not trying to be ignorant, were all allowed our opinions. Canada owes it citizens a safe place to live, and if they believe someone is in possession of an illegal document, it is within in their right to act, but could have been a bit faster. Hopefully they will learn from this and others should check their passport pic to see if it still a valid looking picture.

While I pretty much agree with you flames - I mean what do we know about the facts really - I do believe that this woman was not treated with respect. She should have been presumed innocent until proven guilty - not thrown in jail.

She is a canadian citizen, regardless of where she was born she is a citizen of Canada. Canada called her an imposter and cancelled her passport, is that normal?

I think ur missing the point of this situation---the border officials believed it was a Forged passport. Forged passports are a huge deal. if they thought the passport was valid, this whole situation would not have taken place. The people that make "forged" passports are damn good at it, and its nearly impossible to tell them apart, so extra measure need to be taken. Just they were a tad slow at it.

Terrorists have kids as well, and many women are now used for terrorist activities. Just because 1 has a family, shouldnt mean they get special treatment. We shall just agree to disagree, lol

99% of the time depositing a Cdn cheque into a US bank account is a complete nightmare!! Numerous posts about us Cdns depositing a Cdn check into a USA acount and having nothing but head aches! Most banks wil give u a sub-par exchange rate, some wil charge a fee, etc etc! many of us have uswed customhouse.com---a Cdn company with HQ in Victoria. It has just recently been bought by Western Union, but havent noticed any changes! It does take a bit to set up--but it is very easy to do so. CanadaUS Healthcare going Public
Its like anything--if you have the $$$$$ it is all good, lol You have no money(insurance) it sucks, lol As stated in the other health care post, it all depends where one is in Canada. I have lived in Northern Saskatchewan, and yes the care was probably sub par, as not many (medical)people want to reside in Northern Sask!! My sisters as part of their Nursing program was to spend some time up in a Northern community, working at a medical clinic! They had to leave after a few days, as they were afraid for their lives!! Super high alcohol/drug problem, and at night the drunk/stoned locals would try and break into their residence! They couldn't pay them enough to ever go back, lol
