I didnt send it registered, but sent it with delivery confirmation! I was told by the postal dude, sending a registered pkg is the slowest method. I belive it took a month to get the first NOA, and then a month after that I got my BIometrics appt letter. I still had like a 3 week period from letter to appt, lots of time. I evenhad to chg the appt date, and that was extremely easy.

They were only allowing people required for appts in. I think the family members could wait in the first set of chairs, but not past the second desk. I'm sure it will all go well.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWondering about fingerprinting....
I was there back in Jan for my Biometrics. I did a review of it. http://www.visajourn...showtopic=49425 At the 1st desk when you walk in the door, the lady there very quickly looks at ur hands. I didn't see anyone get turned away, but of course I was in and out in 10 minutes. Was a very easy process and people for the msot part were freindly. Just ensure you fil out ther WHOLE form, many didnt see that they had to put down their address near the bottom of the sheet, and the lady at the desk would make them go sit back down and fill it out. Super easy process and ur husband/family can not follow u in, and of course no cell phones. They do not have any type of security check, all on the honor system!! Cheers

CanadaPets: Do you have to be the owner to transport a pet into the U.S.?

Coming from another country (other than Canada) there are requirements.  We are coming from Nicaragua and coming back to the USA for a few months, and our 2 dogs need more than just rabies!  Requires a Vet health inspection and various forms, such as Form 7001.

Yes traveling between Canada and the USA, they just require Rabies---did it with my dog back in 2011. But since this dog is originating from outside Canada, might be a different story.  I sure would not be claiming it as mine--since it is coming from a different country. But thats just me and I'm a huge animal lover

CanadaParents

Canadians living abroad are still entitled to Canada Old age pension as long as they meet the criteria.  I believe th eonly big ticket item they would lose is Cdn health care..which can be a huge, as we tends to need it more as we get older

CanadaLosing medical after getting green card?

Flames9_RN, you mean the bill from canadian medical?

My situation is my parents retiring in canada. (they only have old age and a little cpp). They are planning to move to US since Im the only child. My aunt is in nursing home and they alao want to take care my aunt in canada here there. I called USCIS, talked to a representative and he suggested I should submit I130 anyway since my parents only need to come in US once a yr to maintain green card. So I did.

Their plan is to stay in US 6 months exact and Canada 6 months exact. (3 months per stay). Of course maybe I shouldnt trust representative but now the process already started, I just want to see what options we have. My dad on medication that they have to stay in canadian medical.

Worst come to worst I will withdraw my application. I dont want to cheat the system but just want to see if its ok if they do 6 months each country out of a yr is possible so they can help us out with kids and take care my aunt as well.

Thanks everybody for reading and helping.

One best look into it more.....as I'm pretty certain once they get their green card..they are no longer entitled to Cdn health care..........Resident means a lot of different meanings for each situation......Can't always have your cake and eat it too.

Another source to inquire may be ur provincial health care, explain the whole situation..

CanadaLosing medical after getting green card?

Thats 1 issue they have......Many Cdns that are not entitled to Cdn Health care....come back to canada and continue to use the services....I know a few yrs back BC gov't said they were going to start cracking down on that (it was on CBC) as it was costing them millions and millions of $$$$$ each yr.....And I believe the 2 countries are starting to share more data when it comes to border crossings, so easier to track it......so maybe at the time one would not pay for it.....then the Bill arrives in the mail.  Plus I believe during ones taxes, they would have to be filled out a certain method.....otherwise you would be getting double taxed......But honestly, not something I have looked into.

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2014-04-27 08:34:00
CanadaLosing medical after getting green card?

OP,

Do your parents understand that as US LPRs, they will need to buy US health insurance to meet requirements of the ACA?

Also, as US LPRs, they are require to report the worldwide income to the US? Even if they earn zero in the US, they would need to report their Canadian income?

Let see how that goes with US immigration when it will look like your parents are abusing their US LPR status.

Canada and the USA have a tax treaty..one won't get double taxed........Once they are a resident of the USA--in receipt of their Greencard---they can't be a resident of Canada--thus no more Cdn Health care.....There is a form they can fill out for extended visits out of the USA--so they don't lose their greencard (resident status)

OMG that's disgusting, they told you every hotel in Montreal has bed bugs? Great customer service LMAO

Thanks for the heads up!

Actually a lot of hotels do have bed bugs,  as they bugs are hard to kill and easily travel from hotel to hotel via peoples luggage.  At the hospital I last worked at--the OR was closed down for cleaning as they were on a patient. Tehy are more common than u think

CanadaHow'd You Move Everything?

if you are moving to Arlington VA and going to rent an Apartment--check out Barton house apartments!  Awesome apartments, underground parking, close to the metro and the people that work there are awesome!  Usually a waiting list to get in as it is so great and much cheaper than other apartments in the area.  http://bartonhouse.com/    Doesn't have in-suite laundry--but only 25 cents to wash and dry (according to a friend that still lives there)   If I were you--I would get on to the waiting list--and check back fairly often!  Thats how we got in--just kept checking back!!  like a 5 min walk to Metro and close to many shops/restaurants

CanadaNow the real work begins... moving!

Thanks for this! I'm definitely surprised at how the market is going in Vancouver. I'm in a very desirable neighbourhood close to downtown. But I know it will eventually go. I just need to be patient. Although I'm really hoping to move by beginning of July/end of June.

Luckily for me, i have realtors in my family so they are helping me out and not collecting commission. In this case, I do have more room than most when it comes to negotiating. Though, I don't want to give it away either!

haha real estate is definitely less certain that USCIS! LOL. Immigration, you go through the process and hope they don't lose your file. Now that you're approved and you're in the home stretch, real estate will drag it on just a wee bit more.

Thanks!! I should start organizing my things. I don't know if it's less appealing, but I have a den in my condo and it's filled with boxes already. Probably not the prettiest when it comes to showing, but it does show there's A LOT of space in there.

I've also decided to go with U-Haul. There's a few people coming with me when I move (my family and my best friend - they're making a vacation out of it!). And I just want my things to get there in one piece. If we were to drive, we'd make a road trip out of it since it'll take us over 24 hours of straight driving to get to where we need to be. But I don't feel great having a truck or a uhaul full of things parked in a parking lot of a hotel while we do touristy things. So we'll save the road trip for another time.

Ensure u check the U-Haul truck over--especially fluid levels and tire pressure.  Buy a lock for the big back door.   Back into a wall--harder access for thieves.

CanadaNow the real work begins... moving!

Keep in mind the Uhaul truck gas mileage is going to suck, lol  I think I got around 10mpg, but i drove it pretty hard

CanadaNow the real work begins... moving!

When I rented a Uhaul back in 2004----1 didnt pay for mileage, it was included in the price.  Still not super cheap, think it was around $800 from NS to DC, plus gas. I enjoy driving, thus why I went that route.

CanadaHelp Needed

Welcome to VJ!!   Take the time and read the Cr-1/Ir-1 forums, especially the guides!  Up until the Interbiew in Montreal, the cr-1/ir-1 process is the same. Just that the cr-1 is for people married less than 2 yrs, and they get a 2 yr green card, and the IR-1 folks have been married 2 yrs or more, and get a 10 yr greencard!

Make copies of all the paperwork you submit.   And you may want to take a look at the topic at the top of the Canada forum--proving USA residency.  Best of luck. The paperwork is fairly easy, it is the waiting that can be a pain!!

CanadaK1 and Car at Same time

Hi Flames.   :)

I didn't see where they said there were no stickers.  Looks like I could have made myself clearer, though.  The OP cannot go back outside to drive to a different lane after having the visa endorsed.  It is done in tandem with the endorsement.  The officers will have a hairy fit if they go in the truck lane.  That lane is for commercial vehicles.

Its a problem he and other Hyundai owners have been having..(on various threads here in the Canada forum) no letter and no stickers......

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2014-06-13 10:20:00
CanadaK1 and Car at Same time

The importer doesn't know what they're talking about.  You don't need one.  All you do is tell the officer you are there to endorse your visa.  Once inside you tell them you are importing your vehicle.  Easy peasy.

Not sure it is so easy peasy when one has NO compliance letter or any stickers on the engine bay or door stating it is compliant...................

CanadaEI for dual citizen

As long as he has enough qualifying hours he can collect EI..take some time and read a few of the pages back, and you will see the process to collect it. As a Cr-1, he can collect it right away once he enters the USA (minus the 2 week waiting period)....Info is there, just takes a few minutes to find it..start near the end and work keep going back to find the most up to date info.
