CanadaMontreal K-1 Interview December
QUOTE (kuds1 @ Oct 29 2009, 01:37 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
hey

we sent our packet 3 to montreal Sept 4, and we're still waiting for our interview as well. Hopefully like you said montreal is being generous with interviews and we get ours in december....errrr...fingers crossed. But ours is K3 not K1. Seems like there aren't a lot of people out there who applied for k3 either.

Many have stopped the k3 route as timewise it runs pretty close with the CR-1 and the CR-1 is a "better" visa than the k3 and costs less!! The k3 was suppose to be a faster visa to reunite couples, but it has slowed down!! Actually we went the K3 and cr-1 route and our CR-1 was completed well in advance of the k3. i had actually moved to the USA before the K3 was approved--got the NOA stating that it had,lol Ya thanks, not required, lol

Just going to have to buckle in for the ride, and enjoy it as much as u can! And hope Mtl speeds up
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2009-12-04 09:48:00
CanadaK3 visa Montreal
Well actually the k3 isnt faster than others! In theory the k3 should be around the same time frame as the k1, but that is no longer the case the past few yrs! Now a days it runs almost along the same time frame as the cr-1, THUS, it doesn't make much sense to go the k3 route as the cr-1 is a far superior visa in every way. Too bad you hadn't found VJ before you started the process. Now if you were going through Vancouver consulate, then maybe the k3 makes a bit of sense, as that consulate is faster than the Mtl consulate.

CanadaPolice Check in Vancouver?
Normally if one doesnt have a criminal record, the police cert id 1 of the easiest documents to get
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2009-12-03 14:44:00
CanadaPolice Check in Vancouver?
Just like to say if you live in canada, and you have NO criminal history, you do NOT need fingerprints!! Only a background check! and that 1 wil cover ALL of canada. As long as it has CPIC checked off. Im sure people in the vancouver region will pipe up

NO, you dont NEED another set of originals if you already sent them in! I was just being extra safe! We all know the govt likes to loose stuff!! so one does NOT need to go out and buy more, i just did to be safe. but one should photocopy everything u send in to Mtl---again just on the safe side!! you dont have to,lol

I had doubles of all my "originals" Brought a few pics, letters. receipts of air travel to DC. brought it all in one of the legal size plastic 13 file accordion binders!! Worked out very well.

But Flames, did they ask you for any more originals?

As for the photos, let's see if anyone else has been asked for them - I have read a few reviews where they haven't - in fact this calls for a poll!!

Think the paperwork they sent out back in 2004 is different than now. It was worded like if you had not yet sent them in, to bring them to the interview! Well i do belive one sends everything in ahead if time--except the police cert, right?? (2004 was a long time ago,lol--my intereview was 5 yrs ago from tomorrow!!!) BUt I paid extra $$$ to have doubles, so even though I already sent them in, I had an extra set for me! As we know "the original" is a true original, lol

CanadaCouple of questions...
I should mention, that another VJ member found bed bugs at the hotel! Others that are close by are only a few more minutes walking and probably a better value. If I were to go back to Mtl, i would NOT stay there again!

CanadaCouple of questions...
La Tour Centreville is the closest,BUT sure not the most modern! I stayed there and was fine for me,but if my wife had come with me, would have preferred something a bit nicer!. Was VERY out dated and there are much better deals to be had! I was just happy to have a fridge to keep my beer cold!! So it only had 2 positives for me: 1) fridge for beer and 2) the proximity to consulate. You can do better.

There is a HOTEL thread somewhere in the canada forum!!

CanadaContinuation of customs officers killing our trip... passport questions
as many others have stated, WE can NOT give you an answer one way or the other if he will get in or not. It is all up to the POE officer. Some are more picky than others! Some barely talk to you, while others laugh and talk sports, like ur a long last friend! Quite simply it is YOU that has to decide if he wants to visit and take your chance. No one truly knows what is in the computers, we all know that many gov't organizations have poor communications between one and another. Bring lots of ties to Canada, and even that does not mean much!

CanadaDual Citizen Travelling back to Canada.....
Well since your a USA citizen and if you want to travel out of the USA, i think you will require an USA passport. You CAN NOT use the Naturalization certificate as proof to enter the USA. they stated that numerous times during my ceremony! They highly encouraged everyone to get a USA passport ASAP if you planned on doing any traveling.

I have a USA passport and a Cdn one. Use the Canada to go into Canada (and I will use that one when I travel) and use the USA passport for coming back into the USA

Yes you have to send the Naturalization cert in along with ur passport application, thats just the way it is. They return the passport and naturalization certificate in separate envelopes, just in case 1 does get lost! The turn around was very quick for me. I wasn't worried about loosing the Naturalization cert. But thats just me,that never even crossed my mind, lol

CanadaIs CR-1 to IR-1 possible in Montreal?
Yep, bring the paperwork with ya! But the I-751 is very easy!! But it costs $$$$, so if ya can get the IR-1, its the way to go! Spend the $$$ on a holiday, vice giving it to the Gov't!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2009-12-15 14:58:00
CanadaIs CR-1 to IR-1 possible in Montreal?
There have been at least 1--that initially had the cr-1, and by the time they entered the USA, it was past their 2 yr wedding anniversary, BUT they only got the CR-1! As were all aware, lot of POE's are clueless, so one should not count on them to do the right thing!!

" You and your spouse must apply together to the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to remove the “condition” within the ninety days before the two year anniversary of your spouse’s entry into the United States on an immigrant visa. The two-year anniversary date of entry is the date of expiration on the alien registration card (green card). See How Do I Remove the Conditions on Permanent Residence Based on Marriage?""

The above is associated with the CR-1, done by filling out the I-751. One has already been in the USA during this period, and goes by the EXPIRATION date on ur green card(it relates to the day you entered the USA and activated the visa), nothing to do with amount of time you have been married!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2009-12-15 12:20:00
CanadaCan I activate the visa at POE and come back to TO?
In ur passport is the I-551 stamp----picture of you, states the visa type, etc etc, takes up a whole page of ur Cdn passport! When you go and activate it at the POE,they put an ink stamp on it-- it is good for ONE YEAR!!! You use that until ur green card arrives, which usually takes around a month or so.
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2009-12-17 09:43:00
CanadaCustody Agreements
On the other hand---I belive others have it it written as sole custody, (whatever the terminology is) and the consulate still wanted a notarized letter from the other parents giving their permission!!

CanadaBringing your money to the US
CH is a fairly easy and fast set up, more so if you have access to a scanner or fax machine! One has to do the application online and then one has to send them (via fax, secure email or snail mail) a few pieces of ID, and bank information. As well they do a very quick phone interview, to ensure it is you setting up the account. Very easy and completed from the convenience of ur home!! I have found on average the transaction of $$$ takes 4-5 business days, all depends on ur bank. First transaction can take a bit longer. I have used it a lot since 2005 and never had a problem. Ran by their head office in Victoria many times!! Just recently they have been sold to Western Union, hopefully that doesnt decrease the service

CanadaBringing your money to the US
Banks will take cdn cheques. And each bank differs, AND it can differ from Branch to branch! I went thru soo many hassles with Wachovia. Soem times it went ok, other times they would try and charge me a fee, 1 time they sent me back the cheque stating they dont take any international cheque for less that $200. Was always a pain in the butt!

If ur transferring large amounts of $$ its best to phone around and see what each bank is going to give you for an exchange rate and what fees. yes some banks won't charge you any fees, sounds like a great deal, BUT, they give you less of an exchange rate. If ur transferring only a small amount of $$, not a big deal! Exchanging a large amount of $$, it does make sense to do ur homework and get a better exchange rate. Spend 10 minutes, call ur bank, and see what rate they can give you, then call Customhouse and see what thier rate is! They charge NO fees at all. But thats just me,lol Thats what i did when I brought over my RRSP $$ with CH. Best of luck

CanadaBringing your money to the US
2nd the CH!!! I have had great customer service. If ur transferring larger amounts of $$$, I belive they can even give u a better rate! See what ur bank is going to give u as an exchange rate, then immediately call CH and see what their rate. When transferring large amounts of $$, a small diff in exchange amount, can still mean a big difference!! I have kept a Cdn bank acct open since I left in 2004, I keep an almost zero balance, and leave a bank card with my folks!
