Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionUh oh!
I think the majority realize its a board filled with "advice " and nothing is "official" And just because one goes to a lawyer, doesnt mean it official either, 1 can even talk to a few different USCIS operators and get different answers. Can be a frustrating process at times

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionLetters of Support

Removing Conditions: Support Letters from Friends

Another proof that can be used is to have letters from relatives and friends that confirm that they think that your marriage is a happy one. The I-751 form stipulates that such letters should:

• Be done by a US citizen or permanent resident who has known you since the time of your wedding.
• List the date and place of birth, and contact information of the person signing the letter.
• The letter should have a notarized signature.
• At least two letters should be submitted. (you can of course submit more than two)

This is what I read from click here

Yes I realize that, but that isnt an official USCIS document. That page is just put together by a VJ member. You dont have to word your letter like that or your cover letter like that. On the link that I provided, which is a USCIS site, it makes no mention of it being notarized. Best of luck

The link you have there is not an official USCIS document, its just a few examples. When one looks at the I-751 instructions, it doesnt mention anythingabout the letters being notarized. Doesnt hurt to, but by the instructions not necesary. If they are in doubt, they can contact the individual. Just ensure the letters contain all the info stated on instructions

I noticed some of the others had them notorized. I didnt bother, I looked over the I-751 form and it didnt state anythign about them being notarized. Besides they have those peoples contact info, too easy for them to call and verify it.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWithdraw Power of Attorney???

The correct answer to the question is that it depends on what type of Power of Attorney you signed and whether or not there is a revocation clause in the document.

Good point. In my case our attorney contacted out of the blue and asked if we wanted her services again for $1000 (was $2500 for cr-1) She stated we could "possibly" do it on our own!! lol

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI seem to have a problem

My, maybe you are just perfect?

Nope. I have many, many, many flaws.

I had 3 people checking the form, including an officer at my local office, and we ALL missed it.

Wow!! Sounds like you could use more effective checkers.

Cheers!

I can make 1 guess what 1 flaw is!! Cheerio

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI seem to have a problem

unlike akadiver I have mada few mistakes in my life, lol If they find soemthign wrong with it, they will send it back and it should be a quick fix. I wouldn't loose too much sleep over it, we al make mistakes. I get confused with the proper format of dates al lthe tiem, is the day first, or the month?

Hey, I make plenty of mistakes - daily!! I was just trying to point out that NO ONE has a greater incentive to make sure your forms are correct than you do. This being the case, since one has the greatest interest in one's own form, it only makes logical sense that one is most likely to end up with correct forms by doing them oneself.

Well we did it to avoid that as a matter of fact, an error, they helped us prepare the package as well and I did not wanted to have the risk of doing it wrong.

In this case, the OP says he had someone else do them to avoid a mistake, and yet, that's exactly what happened! I was pointing out the flaw in this logic, and, as it so happens, the OP's theory is what led to the mistake being caused. Hmm...go figure.

It's also worth pointing out that when it comes to the practical advice, you said the same thing I did, more or less. So there! (:

That being said, honestly, I just don't see how people make such trivial, obvious mistakes with this stuff. I wonder do they just not take the forms seriously, or just whip through them as fast as they can, or what? For example - I JUST did this form over the weekend. I spent about 8 hours Friday night on it. Then I spent, literally, all day Saturday, from about 1030am until 1030pm on it. That's a total of about 20 hours start to finish, filling out the actual form, getting the evidence together (which, incidentially, was ALREADY collected and organized from previous filings), printing things out, making copies, getting it organized into the package, writing cover letters explaining everything, looking over everything with a fine tooth comb, over and over, having OTHERS look it over, etc. etc. etc. I'd be willing to be that people making simple mistakes on such forms are just not spending enough time on them. But that's just a guess.

Good luck to all!

Cheers!
AKDiver

You just came through rather harsh, people make mistakes even when they do things them selves or get experts to do them and proof read it after. I see no reason to belittle the person.

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionjust wondering
Goto wallet/purse. Open up wallet/purse. Get green card. Look at date on greencard. What date does it expire on? Subtract 90 days from the date it expires, that is when you can send in the I-751. Not 91 days, 92, but anytime after 90 days. You can wait t7 days before it expires, just dont send it after thew expirary date. Its a very easy form to fill out. Just google I-751 and it will be there. Best of luck

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhat is the definition of a "child"?

Couldn't one make an infopass appointment? Why fork over $$ to a lawyer if you don'ty have to.

Because I don't trust USCIS to give correct information, but I *do* trust them to hold it against the OP and his family if they act based on wrong information that USCIS gave them?

Most state bar associations have things where for a certain fee (usually $25 or so) you can get a half-hour consultation with a lawyer specializing in your problem with no obligation to hire the lawyer.

One can get bad info from a lawyer. We seeked advice from an immigration attorney prior to stating the visa process and received very bad information. I always like to back things up to get that comfy feeling. Seek an appt with the infopass people and if not happy with their response, seek assistance of a qualified lawyer. Best of luck

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionaffidavit for I-751
Is correct, one doesnt require an affidavit. Good to have, but not a must have.
I see nothing wrong with writing it up yourself and then having that person of course read it, agree with the write up and of course ,then sign it. Lot of people are busy and of course may not know exactly what is required. Saves the time and hassle of explaining it. Since they sign it, its as if they wrote it. We wrote up ours and emailed it to them for their approval. They made a few changes and signed it, too easy. No different from the various zillion other prefilled out forms people read and then sign. I figure they are doing us a favor, so why not help them out.
I dont think we really required any affidavits since we had piles of evidence, but had the time and it can't hurt especially when they work for the US gov't lol. best of luck to all

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionskip biometrics?

As pointed out on here - the notice states what will happen, but the info is incomplete.

We just got our noa-2 biometrics notice today, so this is fresh in my mind. It said if you miss the appt, you can show up any wednesday afterward, at the same time (9am for us), but only up to a certain date. For us, the appt is this week, the cut off date is sometime in Feb 2007. After that date, the app will be considered abandoned and status revoked.

So, you can miss the original appointment, but you have to get it done within a certain period of time, or else.

Cheers!
AKDiver

My NOA makes no mention of that. Just states if you do not show up, its considered abandoned.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBiometrics - and then???

Hello,

so I receive this letter after I get back from my 2 weeks in germany christmas vacation thing...that I need to go to New Orleans (PUKE!!!!!!) to get my Biometrics taken. So here is my question...can I go there without my husband? He is currently in Afghanistan (when I send my pack I included his orders and a written letter from the commander that he is not here and wont be till November 2007). So does he need to be there for this?

Also, after tey get my picture and signature and fingerprints...what happen next? Does that still mean I might have to go back there for an interview? Or should this take care of everyhting?

Also I just dont understand why they have to be such f#$&(*$#%...I am only 3 hours away from the Houston Center...but no I need to drive 4 1/2 hours to go to great New Orleans to get shot (its still super horrible down there....they'll never get thmeselves straight again)! Why cant I go to Houston?

Thank you so much for all your answers and help once again!
Tanja

No need for ur husband to be with you. Its a very quick evolution at least it was for myself. I was in and out in 10 minutes!! All they do is take ur fingerprints and ur pic, too easy. Then you wait for either the greencard to arrive, or notice to appear for an interview, too easy!!

As well the office I went to(Alexandria VA), would not allow spouses in the building. Cheers

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBiometrics DC
Good day. Just back from my Biometrics appt. originally scheduled for Dec 28 at 0900, but we were to be away in Florida, so sent off a request for a new date. new date was for today (Jan 11 at 1100) Arrived at 1035, I was 3rd person in line. Lady at front desk wants to see your Notice to appear letter and ID. She then asks to see your hands (Guess to ensure no scraps or cuts for the fingerprinting) She then puts ur letter to appear (NOA) and ID on the clipboard, as well as a sheet for you to fill out, hands you the clipboard and states once COMPLETELY filled out, hand it to the next counter!! Not much to fill out just your name, SSN, A#, Both of your parents first names, Where born, citizenship AND your ADDRESS!!! 3 out of 4 people that were in front of me for the second counter did NOT put down their address. So they lady tells them to sit down and put in the addy!! A few tried to just add it at the counter, and she would have none of that, so off they went to fill in the addy and back to the line!! Once at the second counter, she has a quick look over to ensure all is filled out, then hands you a #, I was lucky #51!! Then you sit and wait! Did not wait long, like 4 minutes!! Once the guy verbally calls out your #, handed him the clipboard, walk over to one of the stations, he scans your NOA, all the info comes up on the screen, he didn’t have much to add, just ur SSN and another few items!! Electronically takes ur right index finger, then picture time!! This took me by surprise (And he is probably incorrect) that I should receive my 10 Yr green card in 30 days if all goes well. Not overly concerned. I was in the door at 1035, and walked out the door by 1045!! Was not overly busy. Lots of FREE parking, did not see any washrooms. NO CELL PHONES allowed. They do not search you, so they would only know if you said yes!! No food or drinks. Was a very easy and painless evolution.
Only tips: keep cell phone in car, only person that requires biometrics is allowed in (not that much space in there) have your NOA and Green card at the ready, Ensure your completely fill in the 1 form you have to fill out, and listen for them to call your #. Soo many people just sat there when their # was called, lol Cheers, Scott

I didnt send it registered, but sent it with delivery confirmation! I was told by the postal dude, sending a registered pkg is the slowest method. I belive it took a month to get the first NOA, and then a month after that I got my BIometrics appt letter. I still had like a 3 week period from letter to appt, lots of time. I evenhad to chg the appt date, and that was extremely easy.
