Dont feel bad, I had no clue either until Cassie mentioned it. Luckily for me it was just after I entered. Then I was at first denied, but then got a nice retro-cheque!!!

I dont believe u can file the cards online from the USA, at least u could not back in 2005, had to mail them in

As i think about it more, I do recall the Ei lady stating I could could to school for only soo many hours each week, before they would deduct $$$, not sure what the magic # was, and that was back in 2005, so things may have changed

Did you have enough hours?? If so you can redress it. My claim was initailly denied for another reason, but redressed it and won.

Yes cr-1 can apply, actually much easier for a cr-1 as ur eligible to work right from the start. I was a cr-1. Not sure about the student thing. One has to be able to work, if u cant work, no EI, at least from my understanding, but students can stil work!! I think your allowed to "study" to a certain limit before they deduct $$$, unsure what the hours or credits would be. You can contact them via the phone and they can answer any questions. They were extremely friendly when I called. As wel lexpalin you had no clue that u could receive EI benefits in the USA, and the reason ur in the USA is to be with ur spouse. Of course you have to have had enough insurable hours in Canada to collect EI, if not, no EI.

I didn't file for EI until like a month after I entered the USA, as I had no clue I could recieve it, (thanks Cassie) I dont believe I lost any benefits, got it for the maximum time. Of course I initially got denied, but redressed and won!! Cheerio

been awhile for me, I'm sure others will pop in!! The ROE has to be the original (make a copy for urself) They will calculate how much $$$ get. They will automatically deduct 25% for taxes.

I filed over the internet to start my EI. First i talked to a dude over the phone. He emailed me on the steps and link to the site!1 Was very simple to do. In a few places one has to "trick" the pages, ie for ur current addy (or something liek that) one had to puit in an ontario address, etc etc

I'm sure if you did get caught, they would deduct more $$$ than the time you were away!! What are the chances of getting caught?? who knows, probably slim.

Its been awhile (Jan 05) since I applied for EI!! I called and simply sent in what they asked for. Was all pretty painless. Well except that i got denied at first (was military and i had a contract, blah blah) but I appealed and won,lol
And when dealing with the gov't, stuff doesn't have to make sense, lol

I was a cr-1. All I submitted was my ROE, SSN card ( i think). A Cr-1 doesnt get a EAD or a I-94. I may have submitted a copy of our wedding cert. Not sure why he doesnt want to call. Always best to get the answer from them, lol For the most part they are great to deal with.

Believe its 25% right off the bat?? Maybe its more, been awhile. But one may be able to get some of that back if you file cdn taxes! Forget the form to do so, sooo early in the morn, lol

You just get no payments, the first two weeks. Im not exactly sure, as its been awhile!! Could be longer if you had a severance package!

I belive the 2 week period is sort of like a deductible!! Sort of like ur car insurance, you have a deductible to be paid before you get the service completed on ur car after an accident. I need more coffee, lol

Thats a good question, never seen that on here, but I bet if u called EI they could tell ya. My hunch (and only a hunch) if you have an outstanding amount of $$$$ due to the govt, they will grab it!!

The do have to be able to get a hold of you to ensure ur looking for work!! You can thank all the idiots that just sit back and claim EI and don't bother looking for work. Thats one of the tricks for the slackers--they dont answer the phone or reply back via mail!!
Good luck on the appeal! I had to appeal mine as they deemed me unelgible for benefits ( i quit tghe military after 12 yrs) and I won. Best of luck

MY EI claim was originally denied (not because of the ROE) but becuase I was military and had an actual contract. But I appealed and won. Easy process, and the EI people were excellent.

I applied online from the USA. I called the EI 1-800 #, talked to a EI rep, gave them my email addy, and they sent me instructions on how to fill out the application from the USA. Thier computer software does not rcognize a USA address so on section of the online form that asked for my last CDn address I had to put doen 1N. Front St. Box 4800, Belleville, ON K8N 5E2. But that was back in Jan 2005 and things may have changed!!

VJ is an awesome site, but it is what it is, a forum, and NOT an official USA government website. Majority of the info on here is correct, but the onus is still on you. Best of luck

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionGreen Card/Abandoning Status Issues
I do not belive the info given by the above poster is correct. True one can come and go as they please once they have their green card, BUT they have to stay for a certain amount of time in the USA, and I believe the USA has to be thier main residence. Best of luck in finding hard concrete evidence.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751--Mail in Green card as well?
Wow, 2 yrs has nearly passed and almost time to send in the I-751 next week. Does one require to mail in the actual wallet sized green card with ur 751 application? Trying to head back to Canada over the Thanksgiving long weekend so hoping I can keep the card--or get the letter that extends it for a yr until one gets the official 10 yr card (hopefully without an interview!!!)

thanks

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 -- need help
Interesting. Probably because I'm taking a communications class and sort of paying attention, lol But one could take Yodraks reply a few different ways. I can see why brokenheart2006 may have been a bit upset, she was looking for an answer and took it an a sarcastic manner, which probably being a bit stressed out, might not have been what she expected. Yet another poster saw it a different way, oh well, just blabbing away, lol Glad you found ur answer
