CanadaEI Report card question
Yes, many Cdns are suprised that they can claim EI in the USA if they qualify (have enough hrs, etc) I was CR-1 so not much assistance to the k1 and k3'ers, no clue why they differ in the EAD department

CanadaTotally confused after interview
One thing to remember, these Foreign Service workers at the consulate may be new! Typically they spend 2-4 yrs out of country (USA) then back to the USA and their jobs differ from consulate to consulate! Not an excuse, just saying!

CanadaCriminal Record Background Check Question

Fingerprinting is way better then a local police check as it checks the National Criminal Records repository in Ottawa! Criminal History or not, still good to get done...in my opinion anyway.

Fingerprinting is a secure way...while a police check, there could be a person with same name and date of birth as you.

Not required(if no criminal record), but sure go on ahead!! With just the "plain paper" they check the whole database as well!!

As the others have said--yep--as they could always still deny one entry into the USA

CanadaHEINZ ketchup!!
http://cnews.canoe.c...5/13958936.html

CALGARY - As ketchup fans stateside brace for Heinz's first recipe change in 40 years, Canadians are being reassured that the popular condiment will remain faithful to its roots.

The tomato-based sauce, used for everything from dipping french fries to mixing into a box of Kraft Dinner, is set to see major changes to its formula in the U.S., seeing its sodium count drop from 190 mg per tablespoon to 160 mg per tablespoon, the company announced Friday.

But while Heinz Canada is planning to put out a special low-sodium version of the condiment in the next week, spokeswoman Joan Patterson said there are no plans afoot to alter the successful formula north of the border, which already contains less sodium than the planned reduction by its American counterpart.

"Americans tend to like their ketchup with a little more tartness -- we're into sugar big time," she said, noting Canadian Heinz ketchup has only 140 mg per tablespoon of sodium but tends to have a sweeter taste than the U.S. version.

"Canadians don't have anything to worry about."

Word of the planned change in the U.S. has prompted many fans to voice their horror, including Joe Olivia of Bay Ridge in Brooklyn who told the New York Post the altered recipe is not welcome.

"I'm 80 years old, and I haven't died yet," he told the Post.

"It's really hard for me to eat without salt. I think it's infringing on our rights."

Canadian ketchup lovers remain loyal to the long-standing recipe and say they would have some misgivings if the formula were to change significantly.

Lyndsey Peterson was just finishing lunch at the 2740 32 Ave. N.E. McDonald's Friday, having made good use of a container of ketchup for her fries.

The 22-year-old geologist, who said she uses ketchup on just about everything including steak, said she would have some major concerns if the classic condiment had its taste altered.

"If they changed it a lot I'd have to use mustard for everything," she said.

I didnt go into that much detail! out of boredom, I made a chart with MS Word! In the box i just put down clothes, kitchen utensils, books, etc--I didnt name every single item, just grouped them together. Custom dude said it was a better job then he would have done, but of course he was more interested in his solitaire game he was playing on his computer, lol

Canadalicenses in the US

Each state is so different. There are a million variations of how to deal with a Canadian DL. Well, I guess in this case there is only 50

Here in CO, you need an EAD or GC and SSN. No written or road tests. They also let me trade in my Ontario G2 for a full license.

Has anyone ever tried to compile a list on how to get a DL in each state? It may be something valuable for us to start, considering Canadian licenses are often treated differently than other foreign licenses. It could be part of the Canada Wiki!

lol--just like the other pinned topics that people don't read, lol or the comment--I dont have the time to rad over the 5 pages, so can you just tel me" lol

CanadaMy Wife (Canadian Citizen)'s Situation Help & Advice Please!
Its always up to the POE officer discretion!! Who knows whats truly in the system (from her overstay!) One can have 100% concrete evidence that 1 is going to return to Canada, and the POE officer can stil deny 1 entry! Sometimes what the POE officer will do is let her gain entry but give her a I-94 with a date that she has to return by! So what I would do--is 1) look below at my signature and i would take that advice, lol and 2) if the POE is on edge about letting me enter i would say, hey, I'm going to be returning in 3 weeks, so why not just jot that down on the I-94--and when i return in 3 weeks, I hand that in! But if it were I--I would try to visit the USA and follow my advice in my signature line, lol and have a plan in case they deny me entry! BUT I truly don't know your whole case!

The K3 still exists according to that link---but gets nullified if the I-130 beats it or its tied!! For most the Cr-1 is the far better visa anyways!

CanadaMy Wife (Canadian Citizen)'s Situation Help & Advice Please!

The K-3 will not work, they have been cancelling the applications and forcing people to do CR-1 instead.

Do you have any proof of that?? There have been Cdn lately

Not much help from me--most I have read on VJ is people submitting the waiver at the time of the interview. Do a search on VJ for "-I-192"

As well check out http://britishexpats.com/forum/ I believe there were some very knowledgeable people on their that knew a fair bit about waivers

I guess your prob may be that u were not married to her when you were a Cdn PR, or where you??? There used to be members that knew a fair bit about CDN PR, but they have departed! You may want to search ou the VJ member trailmix and send her a PM about Cdn PR stuff. No clue if she will respond, as she no longer posts here. But one gets a lot of "family member" says this--which turns out to be wrong!! many constantly hear "ur married to an American, you automatically get US citizenship!!" NOT!! lol

CanadaMy Wife (Canadian Citizen)'s Situation Help & Advice Please!
Didnt realize you had been with her all that time, maybe that wil be to your benefit--and still a CDn PR, I have no clue, lol.

If you can do the k3 thru vancouver, it "may" shave soem time off, or it may not!! The process is not always cut and dry! back in 2004 we did the k3 and cr-1 at same time (not sure if 1 can stil do that????) and in a perfect world, the k3 should have finished well ahead of the cr-1, but nope!! I was already in the USA on my CR-1, before the k3 had been approved, lol

At least with the k3---you would be together. EAD takes around 3 months. There are cr-1//k3 timelines in the cdn forum! Hopefully things will speed up

CanadaMy Wife (Canadian Citizen)'s Situation Help & Advice Please!

<-- Sigh --> a very long, long time ago I was once a Canadian permanent resident as a teenager. Came back to the U.S. after high school. Maybe I should consider the DCF route... The approval of the app may be quick but the wait time for the interview appears to be easily 6 to 8 months as well. Don't think I am a Canadian permanent resident at this point though. That was some 19 or 20 years ago.

I am, needlessly to say, very sad at the moment...

Doesn't appear u are a permanent resident any longer--nor are you in canada. This may be 1 of the situations and contact a lawyer for a 1 time visit for info!! Personally i would contact 2 or 3 lawyers and see what info they give you----as there are people on here that have gotten terrible info from a lawyer--which did more harm than good!

Could she try and re-enter the USA?? Sure why not--but be prepared to be turned around again!! But bring concrete evidence that she wil return to canada or Taiwan (letter from employer stating when she is expected back to work, apartment lease, return airfare) But even with 100% concrete evidence, they can still say no----All boils down to the POE officer. My advice on visiting the USA is down below in my signature!!

Start investigating the cr-1 and k3 visas , there are + and - of each : http://www.visajourn...content/compare

for the majority, the CR-1 is the better way to go as it is a superior visa than the k3 (read the + and - of above link) BUT if she lives in western canada, the K3 may be a bit better if speed is more of a concern for you!! vancouver does K3(but NOT cr-1) Montreal is the only consulate in Canada to do Cr-1!! But Vancouver is usually much faster than Montreal (they do k3 as well for ontario and eastward)

NJ tends to be slow on the weekends, so responses may slow down!! read the guides (cr-1,k3) and review the process! The paperwork isnt that bad----its the waiting that sucks! Probably around a year of it!! Its at the interview where one would file the Waiver--if required! many that think they may have to file a waiver--bring the info with them! Nope, it doesn't get approved on the spot (sorry) but saves you a postage stamp!! And others have been denied entry and didn't cause a problem! But I guess your problem is more of the overstay! But ask a few lawyers for their time and see what they have to say! have ur questions written out, as time is $$$. Best of luck

CanadaForm listing belongings to present to border?
I just made a chart with a few headings such as ---Item--Serial # (if it was an $$ electronic item) IO didn't list every single item, but grouped things together (clothes, kitchen utensils, books, etc) Custom guy in Maine barely looked at it! never did look in my u haul truck--i know that for a fact as it was locked!

CanadaBeginning of our Journey
Welcome to VJ. Read the guides at the top of the CR-1 forum and re-read them, lol No 1 cares more about ur case than you, so take the time to read the guides and ask questions----AND do a search on VJ. Search feature isnt superb, but their is a 99.99999% chance, that question has been asked before. Weekends on VJ tend to be rather slow! The paperwork probably won't harm ya--its the waiting that can be a killer!! 2 people can start at same time--but finish differently! Just a frustrating experience, one just has to suck it up, and soldier on!! You could be in a 8th world country living in a hut, so it could be worse, lol

CanadaMoving Truck?
I enjoyed my U-haul experience, was enjoyable to drive down, felt like a trucker, lol!! My wife was suppose to fly up and join me, but the day before she went in for a root canal, lol Sure one can find better deals, but if you like to drive like I do, U-haul is a great option.
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-10-30 17:34:00
CanadaMoving Truck?
U-haul is the only truck rental company that allows their trucks to cross the border. You can go onto the U-haul website and get a quote on how much it will be. I rented a u-haul from NS to DC back in 2004 and all went well! Some have complained that U-haul trucks were #######, so just ensure you have a look over before you "accept" it! I also heard the truck they allow to cross the border, are their "better" trucks. Like i said, all went well for me. The price I was quoted online, was the actual price! I had more than enough miles that were included to do the trip. I got around 10 mpg, lol But I was driving like 70 mph in a snow storm (not that wise) Best of luck

Canadavisa denied?
no 1 can tell you not to worry--but believe me, this is nothing new!! Mtl is slowwwwwwwww
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-11-01 12:36:00
Canadavisa denied?
Mtl can be slow at times at sending the visa out! And as you have learned--- it is never a good idea to book ur ticket prior to getting the visa in hand!
Their is no rhyme or reason why some get it asap while others wait! Maybe some go thru a few extra security checks, or it goes onto a desk that a person is off on holiday!!
