Canadahas anyone traded in a g-2 license
All depends on the state and probably who you deal with at the DMV counter. When I came to VAS on my cr-1, the DMV gave me a license that expired on the same date as my Green card! When i got the NOA 1 (or what ever it was) for my 10 yr green card, it extended my green card for another yr, until I received the 10 yr greencard--my drivers license was again, only good for 1 more yr! And I almost found out the hard way--VA does not always send out notices that ur DL is expiring!! i was driving around for a month on an expired DL!! Only reason I knew--was when I went to the liquor board store (called LB in Sask, lol) The clerk refused me service, because my DL was expired!! So rushed down to the DL--yes I drove,lol---They almost made me start over from scratch---test and road test and loose my motor cycle endorsement! But they took pitty on me!! Pays to be nice, lol

Canadahas anyone traded in a g-2 license
Yep, as one finds out, their is NO "United" in the united States, lol Each state differs. Here in VA I was able to keep my motor cycle endorsement with no problem! IN VA, ur CDN license easily transfers over, no written test or driving test! Best of luck

Canadamontreal embassy?? taking long?
Montreal Consulate does a lot more than just relationship visas. As well they provide services to USA citizens. Belive me they are busy. I've stated this many times--and I know it doesnt make it easier for people waiting----but they work hard!! I have inlaws/friends that work at various consulates throughout the world and many of them work long hours!! And its just not as simple as hiring more people, lets face it, immigration isn't a vote getter for politicians!! Majority of tax payers don't want to spend $$$ on bringing people to the USA--they rather spend it on keeping people out,lol Don't get upset at the workers--get upset at the idiots/terrorists that make it take longer (longer checks, etc)
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-08-10 08:49:00
Canadamontreal embassy?? taking long?
In the past, other have used the line--job transferred to calgary, vancouver(western province) and got it switched to the Vancouver consulate. Of course one does need a mailing address in 1 of the Western provinces!!

CanadaI-130 pre and post approval visits?
welcome to VJ! this question gets asked a zillion times on here! I'm out the door to work, but look below in my signature for feee advice!! YES one can still visit, BUT it is not a RIGHT to visit! It all boils down to the POE officer! Most have no problems, but some do! Read my signature for further info! best of luck

CanadaVisa Waiver Program Overstay- Denials.
Canada is NOT part of the Visa Waiver program. Many have gone the route you have with NO problems. Is it a "fun/relaxing" route, probably not,lol Keep in mind, if ur in the USA now, DO NOT leave!! That includes going to Canada! The leaving isn't the problem---it is the getting back into the USA that is!

Very sorry!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-08-21 13:44:00
CanadaThis is not IT
Sorry it isn't going well. I know for the cr-1 it states that 1 has to have a police report from ALL countries that you have lived in since the age of 16, and i think stayed there for at least 6 months!

All comes down to tax payers $$$ and tax payers don't really care for $$$ spent on immigration! And yep, that includes me,lol Best of luck

CanadaJust a quick question...
Yep!! Ensure ur ID (name) matches ur plane ticket!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-08-25 07:49:00
Canadain USA now
1) what was the USA addy on ur paperwork?? If its the same, then you do not have to change it. Green card "should" arrive within about a month! One usually get 1 and quite often 2 or 3 "Welcome to the USA" letters just prior to Greencard arriving

2) SSN: If after 10-14 BUSINESS days, no SSN, then simply head to ur local SSN with CDn passport, birth cert and ask about it! Quite often, 1 has to reapply, SOOOO goto http://ssa.gov/ssnumber/?h download the form and complete it prior to going to the office, so when they say ur not in the system, u simply hand over the already filled out form! SSN offices tend to be busy, so best to get there a bit before they open! After I went and applied at office, SSN came in mail 1 week later!

3) you can legally work right now!! They may not be able to pay you until u get ur SSN, but ur legally able to work! A few here on here have been hired, and they just had to wait till they got their SSN to get paid!

4) If you qualify, do not for get about CDN EI, since ur legally able to work, your able to collect it from the on start, minus that 2 week thingy. So apply ASAP

5) No clue for texas, but here in VA I simply took my Passport with VISa and exchanged my CDN DL for a VA 1! Simple as that no testing at all. BUT each state differs

6) No you do NOT have to go back to POE if Greencard doesant show up! There is a 1800 # u can call, but so many days has to go by, before they do anything! The Visa in ur passport is good for 1 yr!!

CanadaEnter the US first then apply for change of status?
Of course the consultant has never had any problems, lol and if he did, he surely isn't going to tell you.

ALL you need to find to do DCF is here on VJ for free! We hired a lawyer to help us go the CR-1 route---as we had not found VJ!! She charged us $2500, plus we had to pay for filings! A lawyer in 99% of these cases is just an $$$$$$ proof reader!! that is it!! YOU have to go and get the required documents--such as the police background check, LONG form birth certificate, any divorce paperwork, etc etc! You can downlaod the required immigration forms for free from the internet! And we even had to fill in the paperwork for the most part, so we paid her $2500 to look over the paperwork, lol Id much rather spend that on a holiday, but thats just me. Quicker u start, theoretically, quicker you finsih, lol
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-08-27 10:12:00
CanadaEnter the US first then apply for change of status?
We visited a Immigration lawyer here in DC back in 2003. She said the same thing, just stay! Which i couldn't at the time as i was still in the CDN military. She said once you get out, then do it! Isnt that illegal??? she wouldn't give me a direct answer on that!!! so what does that tell ya! They (lawyers) do not care about you (ya some do,lol) If u get denied entry or banned, thats ur problem, not theirs!

If one does go the AOS way (which is fine if u had NO intent)BUT they find out you did have the intent, your pretty much hosed, one has fewer routes (appeals) to go, then ur really hooped!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-08-27 09:53:00
CanadaEnter the US first then apply for change of status?
If you walk up to the POE (port of entry) and tell them that u plan to enter the USA and AOS (adjust of status) then u will be denied entry, if not face a ban! One can NOT enter the USA and have the INTENTION of staying. If out of the blue you stayed (had no intention) then thats fine! But its obvious above, you have the intention of staying! Of course its not us (forum) you have to make believe, lol

Since you have been legally in Canada (as a USA citizen) you can DCF (direct consualr file) at any of the USA consulates in Canada (ur interview, how ever would be In Montreal) DCF is usually a LOT faster than going the regular CR-1 (married less than 2 yrs)IR-1 (married for 2yrs or longer) route!

I dont think anyone going the regular route has taken them 2 yrs, 1 yr is probably more likely the average, but to be honest, I havent paid much attention. There is a Timeline post here in the CDn section, that people have posted thier cr-1/Ir-1 journey on, so u can get some sort of an idea!

And as well read the DOMICILE post at the top of the cdn forum, interesting stuff there for DCF'ers! As well in the DCF forum here on VJ, there is a few CDN threads!!

CanadaPOE
One of those grey areas--When one goes to fill out ur 2010 taxes--on the very front page (at least it was in 2005,lol) it asks when you became or CEASED to be a Cdn resident! For Cr-1//IR-1, I belive that is the day one activates the visa at the POE!! Is it one of those items that Canada/USA share? No clue! Hope they can give you a concrete answer over the phone
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-08-15 17:22:00
CanadaPOE
yes, they will stamp it and you can come and go as you please (for the most part) it is NOT like a k1 at all. I know many on here have done that and have had no issues.

CanadaI'm highly annoyed

yes it does feel like a kick in the face. I'm starting to get over being so mad.... still a little tho.

Flames, I have thought about that but I couldnt do that. I'd feel horrible turning in my friend. Like I said, I'm not mad at her. She took the risk and it paid out for her. I am just mad that immigration isnt doing their jobs well enough. Makes me wonder why anyone cares about laws and rules. I was scared of being banned from there and so I did things the right way. Also because I'm an honest person and hate lies. I would just feel terrible for cheating the system and knowing I was dishonest. that is not the kind of person I want to be.

She has only been doing this for a short time. she got married in May. She said she gets a conditional 2 year visa.... is that the same as a green card?? I'm assuming no??

I suppose Immigration officials require evidence and if they dont have any, they probably approve the case! If they come for a low threat country, I'm sure one would have little trouble doing it this way!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-08-27 21:31:00
CanadaI'm highly annoyed
In all seriousness, it would probably be a very easy way to do it. Play dumb and keep ur story straight!! But keep in mind if one does get denied, then ur in a world of hurt. Family/friends pass away back in ur country, do you risk going back?? Going back is not the problem, it is the coming back into the USA! Yes I can see how it bothers some, but I slept well throughout the process and while I was in the USA, as I knew I was doing it legally! If it really ticked you off, you could call immigration! I belive thats what happened to a mexican acctress that came into the USA on a fake marriage (so they say) http://www.google.co...XLj3kQXjkNfPbqg

I just bought it to see how easy it would be to put together, always wanted to try. I prob wont upgrade it much.

Thats a lot of RAM, isnt that overkill?? On te forums i was one, they said over 8Gb wasnt really worth it unless ur doing heavy duty editing/video stuff (not games)

For my games NHL 2010, I'm sure this will more than suffice, lol Thanks for all the help

Its a funny process! 1 person loves seagate hard drives, another says they are junk, lol Most of the forums i have been on, love the Samsung F3 1TB,lol And many say 1 doesnt require more then 4GB memory, so its a frustrating process, much more than my immigration process, lol'

I just want to ensure that the MOBO I buy, supports AMD's next batch of chips--Bulldozer! From my readings Intel is comign out with a new line of chips and the current mobo may not suppurt them???? fun and games! Im currently on a 3yr old dell XPS 410, Pentium II 1.2 GHZ with 1GB ram and a crappy video card and it does ok!

I dont foresee me adding a second video card! The sports games are that intensive--I do not think!! Thanks all

CanadaBuilding a Computer

I just rebuilt my system (after the roomy's cat ate a wire and shorted out my board). I got the phenom 965 as well, and the board i got with it was the Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H. Its really nice so far. When i first rebuilt i bought an ASUS 89somethingorother and some 1600 DDR3 that was suppose to be compatible, but turns out its not. Just as a forwarning, a lot of boards are being wierd with the 1600, go with the 1066 or 1333 DDR3, its still just as good. In WoW now I'm averaging frames of about 60+ during 25m fights where I was at 2 before, and everything runs so clean and smooth. Love it!

cool!! Think i will go with the 965. They say i could save a few $$ and just overclock the 955, but for like $10, will just buy the 965

Was looking at that MOBO as well. A few have recomended the GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard for $180. Am I gaining much by going for this more $$ ($40)mobo???????

Trying to stay around $1000. Need Windows 7 as well. Do NOT need monitor, mouse/keypad

So far, this is what I'm thinking:

Processor: AMD Phenom 965 3.4 GHZ

MOBO: GA-890FXA-UD5 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD

HDD: Samsung F3 1 TB

DVD/writer, Sony or Samsung OEM(all are around $17-$25!!)

RAM: Not sure, sort of confuses me,lol

CASE: have liked a Few Lian Li and Antec

Power Supply: 600W, think it was a corsair modular, some say a OCZ would suffice

Video card: XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity

Guess I'm just really stuck on the MOBO and the case and maybe the power supply!! Not a huge gamer, and who knows how much I will upgrade, lol

Any suggestions would be super. Keep in mind im a Noob when it comes to this stuff, never built a computer before, but have found a lot of good websites. thanks

and http://forums.mysuperpc.com/ and pretty much buying everythign from Newegg or amazon!! We shall see! I have come to a conclusion on a few items, such as the AMD Phenom 965 3.4 GHZ, the Lian Li Mid-ATX case, the AFX 1GB HD5850 video card, cheapo DVD writer, Windows 7, the power supply. Just unsure about the Motherboard! There are soooo many choices! Trying to stick with a Gigabyte or ASUS board, but there are still so many, lol!! I'm not a huge gamer, play call of Duty and the EAS sports games such as NHL 2010!! Just want something to last a a few yrs!! I could save a dfew $$ and get the Phenom 955 and overclock it, but its only like $15, so why not just get the 965,lol Time for a nap--work tonight!!

ur 4 yr old does NOT have to attend the interview (believe 12 and under, or is it 14??? do not have to attend). No clue if they would allow CDN inlaws with you if you did bring him????

U do NOT need to bring a pile of evidence! Yes bring some, but lot of times they do not ask to see anything. bring a few pics, letters, but one does not need a whole photo album!! Quality over quantity. Everything I brought, fit into one of those 13 files plastic accordion folders (legal sized 15.5" X 10") Easily accommodated all the paperwork I had to bring, a few photos, a few letters, airfare ticket stubs and that was about it! Nice and compact and organized. A well spent $7 at walmart, lol
