CanadaCdn passport arrived
I mailed off the application to renew my Cdn passport om March 30 and i received it today, so not too shabby! i was fortunate enough that I could take advantage of the new passport guidelines which was nice, and when i was In Saskatoon, i got my passport photos done. I had on a white shirt---as I needed two pics with a light colored shirt for my RN picture----the lady at the photo centre strongly suggests one not wear alight colored shirt, but it worked out. So a blazing 17 days to receive my passport, it arrived via DHL, and the dude stated he could not leave it at the door, luckily i was home!

ps, as others have confirmed, your passport # does change.

The funny thing about EI--some Cdn K1'ers were able to collect it right away without the EAD!

Yep, all my family emailed me,lol I visited the Newport RI daily when ever we are in town--and was to be up there again soon to pick up my wifes ring!! damn them! Not a big deal, didnt taste the same! I was surprised they lasted this long. They were rarely ever busy! Dunkins would have a huge line up and Tims would be empty!!

Canadavisiting canadian wife...do they keep information on file
KISS:::: KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!!! lol Words to live by when dealing with border dudes from either country!! Answer their question, simple as that, never lie!! many times When i traveled to the USA they would ask me--purpose of my visit, business or pleasure, i would say Pleasure--that was it, as that is what they asked me! Then they would ask me If iwas visiting friends or family and I would state family, that was it!! And normally thats all I would say--KISS,lol And yes if they asked who my relaitive was, i would say my GF, which eventually turned into my wife, lol. My wife did pretty much the same thing when coming to Canada. My advice is down below in my signature! Border officials for the main part are not jerks--yes there are some jerks, but ever organization/forum has them,lol--they have an important job to do! Best of luck

Ur biggest issue is that You QUIT way back in April!! But you do not know if you do not ask or apply
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2010-11-17 13:46:00
CanadaAm I going to be eligible for benefits?
The EI people would be best! It comes down to the # of hours you have worked!! But another thing you have against yourself is the time between that you quit and moved to the USA. If one quits their job (and stays in canada) they cant get EI (unless 1 has a valid reason)

But ur best to call the EI people and ask, all they can do is say no! And even if they did, i would stil try and apply for it,lol

CanadaA sad day!!
Pat Burns, the fiery cop-turned-NHL-coach who led three of the Original Six teams and also won a Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils, has died after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 58.

A coaching icon, Burns' career spanned 14 seasons and 1,019 games, from 1988 to 2004. He won a Stanley Cup and earned a record three coach of the year awards - a record he still holds.

Fans will remember the Montreal native as a tough coach, ready to take on any rival who stepped on his toes; his infamous cuss-infused temper tantrums sometimes being featured in top-10 lists of coaching outbursts.

But he was an accomplished coach with a reputation for instilling a strong defensive game.

Burns didn't begin his career as a hockey player, but as a cop in Gatineau, Que., coaching the game on the side.

Then in 1984, his talent landed him a full-time job with Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team, the Hull Olympiques.

In two years, he guided the team to a championship win and a Memorial Cup final.

His work soon caught the eye of professional teams and Burns was hired by the Montreal Canadiens organization to manage their AHL team, the Sherbrooke Canadiens, for the 1987-88 season.

In 1988, he was promoted, replacing Habs coach Jean Perron.

Burns had a quick impact on the team.

The Canadiens won the Adams Division title that season with 115 points, heading to the Stanley Cup final before losing to the Calgary Flames. That year, Burns won his first Jack Adams Award as coach of the year.

In 1992, after a four-year tenure with the Canadiens, he left for the rival Toronto Maple Leafs.

It was there he earned his second coaching trophy, in 1993, staying with the team until 1996.

Fired by the Leafs, he became coach of the Boston Bruins, for whom he won his third coaching award. He was fired during his fourth season with the Bruins.

Burns then took a two-year break, returning behind the bench of the New Jersey Devils. In 2003, he helped the team to a Stanley Cup win.

Soon after, he was diagnosed with colon cancer and in 2005 a new cancer attacked his liver. In 2009, he was again diagnosed with the disease, this time terminal lung cancer.

It was following this third diagnosis he decided to forgo further treatment.

Burns was down, but not out.

He continued scouting for the Devils and regularly commented on hockey for a popular Montreal sports radio station, sprinkling his opinions with an inimitable humour that won over listeners.

On March 26, 2010, he made his last public appearance, when the Quebec town of Stanstead, near the U.S. border, announced it was building an arena bearing his name.

Greeted with a standing ovation, he called the honour one of the highest points of his career.

"I probably won't see the project to the end," Burns said at the time. "But let's hope I'm looking down on it and see a young Mario Lemieux or Wayne Gretzky."

CanadaChanging From K1 to CR-i

I wish it was that easy, we have only one that would help us, but only if we were married. We have tried to get a lawyer right after I was denied and for several months, with different telephone consultations, but as I said the only one that would take us, is if we were married and able to take payments.

I don't know the waiver rules, but that sounds truly fishy! I know their are other sites that can help with waivers!! Something you should look into. I'm not a lawyer hater--have a few in the family and know a few,lol but their are some out there that only care about the $$$$. There have been many on VJ that educated themself and that had a lawyer and had to tell the lawyer the "correct" way. I'm just saying, lol thats all. I wil send ya a pm.

I was asking a question, as we do not see too many waiver cases here in the Cdn forum! Could you not have filed the waiver as a k1?? The few waivers I recall here on the CDn forum have taken around a year to complete and that is after the interview

Take ur time and READ the GUIDES at the top of the forums! Everything you require (information wise) and more can be found on VJ for FREE!! lawyers in straight forward cases are just $$$$$$$$$ proof readers, thats it!! YOU still have to gather the documents (Long form birth cert, police background check, etc etc) We used a lawyer--as we had not found VJ---she was fine, but not worth the $$$$$. Take ur time and read the guides then ask questions. NO 1 cares more about your case than YOU. Welcome to VJ

CanadaDV 2011 Interview at Montreal in October - placed in administrative processing 221g - how long wait?

I did want to address this issue as it is one you should get used to. Many Canadians get a rude awakening when they realize how different things are in the US. Even though we are very close neighbours we are two distinctly different countries.

You are applying to live in the US. The US is a foreign country. It is not Canada. It does have its own rules and laws which are different than Canada's. You are speaking to an American evaluating you based upon the legal criteria of America. The Consulate employee does not work with Canadian laws. He works with US legislation. Why would he evaluate you based upon Canadian laws since they do not apply in the US? Of course he is going to be referring to everything according to US law. There is an intersection between what is allowable in Canada and how it translates into the US, but ultimately, it will be what is acceptable in the US that will determine the ultimate decision.

If you were applying to enter the US and had 5 wives because it is allowed in your country of Nationality, would you expect the US to follow the laws of your country and allow you to have 5 wives in the US even though it is against US law? Of course not. The US official needs to compare your situation to make sure it is allowed under US law and that the unique circumstances you face (and because there are very few DV lottery applicants from Canada since Canadians are not eligible) you can appreciate he is taking the time to find out the correct information. You have taken the steps necessary to qualify as a married couple in the US as well as in Canada so once the careful examination of all of the facts is finished you should be alright. Just don't be so surprised that a US government official is following US laws for a US immigration benefit.

Well said!!

CanadaDV 2011 Interview at Montreal in October - placed in administrative processing 221g - how long wait?
Some in AP have waited over a year, its hard to say! Montreal isn't the fastest of the consulates thats for sure! Not sure USA recognizes Common law marriages, but again, not something I have looked into. Just because Canada does, does not mean other countries do. Best of luck

ps VJ tends to be a bit slower on the weekends, so the responses may be slow to spill in.

See what the DCF regs are for the country that ur in!! Even if they are lightning fast, there is a period of time one has to use ther visa!! In Canada, one has up to 6 months to use it!! Could be different for other countries. Check out the DCF forum on VJ
