Ahhh ok... What a mess... I'll be contacting the woman from Alijon tomorrow to have more details on my particular situation. But at the same time, I think the company I'll be working for is aware of the deal with Alijon and what not. We'll see what happens!

Many businesses go this route as they they figure they are getting sent suitable applicants and they know their is a fee associated with it. I guess they figure it saves them time. Congrats

Oh. My. God!!!
So I got a call this morning at 9:20, and it was the woman from the staffing agency. They (the people I met yesterday) wanted me to speak to someone from Canada at 9:30. I was thinking "how much screening do you need to do?!?"... Just got off the phone with him, he was nice, from Quebec, so we spoke in French and it went really well. He said he was going to put a good word in for me. Back to waiting, again, hopefully the next time I post on here it will be with good news!!!

I thought u said someone from Canada?? Good luck

a friend(yep the famous "I have a friend" lol)had a phone interview for a job in his company. Of course the upper echelon had their favorites---so each emailed the question to their favorite!! My friend who is 1 smart guy, got the job!! 1 reason why is that he sounded confident, had well thought out replies-----while the others sounded like they were reading from a script------which they pretty much were!! You don't need good luck from us----you can do it, its a marathon, not a sprint, so think it out!!

It feels good to help the widdle people, lol!!! I know you will kick butt!! I offer 1 other bit of advice---it is something I never do-----THINK--before you engage the mouth, lol!! But seriously, many think one has to answer the questing in like 0.5 seconds, I do not think that's true!! Engage brain(oh I wish I had 1) take a breath and sound confident!! You can do it!!! The recruiting company would not let you go forward and embarrass them if you were a rambling idiot like me!! You Can do it!!!!

CanadaDual Citizenship
I dont believe you have to file Cdn taxes every year just because you have RRSP's! When u leave you call up the company that is looking after them, you tell then ur a non-resident of Canada, they send you a form to fill out and sign and that's it--for the Cdn side of things!! But each year for the IRS, you fill out form 8891, which is a very basic form to fill out. I stupidly cashed out my RRSP's and put it into a Roth IRA, oh well, lol Back when the Cdn $$$$ was low!! Wife was ticked at me,lol But I was bored, oh well.
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2011-06-16 17:01:00
CanadaDual Citizenship
form 8891--to report ur RRSP'S--IRS wont tax them--just have to report them. I have been told--can't confirm this, but a few States may tax them, but dont know that for sure.

I don't think many renounce their Cdn citizenship! Its actually more than just renouncing it: http://www.cic.gc.ca...enounce-how.asp

Having a "greencard" does not make you a USA citizen----your a permanent resident; Which of course you can get a SSN

Canada and the USA have a tax treaty--so 1 should NOT get double taxed!

For the most part its rather simple-----Canada sees you as a Cdn citizen AND a USA citizen! Thus dual citizenship!! BUT the USA sees you ONLY as a USA citizen!

So simply, when you as a k1 marry, NO, you do not have to renounce your Cdn citizenship!! As I say to others--take time and read the guides here on VJ! No 1 cares more about your travels through this process than you. Good luck

Ok, I have heard some of you were able to cross the border and visit your US citizen spouse while you were waiting for your interviews. My Canadian wife is now planning to do this as well. We are very nervous about how she might be questioned at the border, or worst case, she'll be denied entry and we'll have wasted the money on the plane ticket.

Those of you who did this successfully, I have some questions. When you approached the customs officer and presented your passport, what did you tell them? Were you up front about the fact that you had a pending immigration case, or did you just say "I'm going to visit my husband/wife in the US". What questions were you asked? Did they want proof that you were not going to stay there?

Anything at all you can share that could help us prepare for the day of her flight would be very much appreciated.

Jeremy

Yeah, it MAY have something to do with Electronic Processing.

Or it MAY have just been a mistake by the consular agent.

Either way, I never expected I would need it...but now that there's a case where someone recently had it taken, I'm making sure I have a copy with me. One can never be too careful.

Best to have more info, then not enough!! Thats why we had it overnighted! I contacted mtl to see if we needed the USA citizen BC at the interview and the person onthe phone (they actually answered calls back in 2004,lol) could not give us a yes/no response!!

I'm really interested in sdhiman's review! One of the first EPers to go through the interview. The only other recent one dropped a bit of a bombshell when she revealed that she had to present the USC's birth certificate. SO glad I found that out...my wife is sending me a certified copy of hers solely for that reason.

Wow, next Wednesday will make for an interesting waiting room! Three VJers in there at the same time...

Must be something new, as I had my wifes Birth cert with me and they didnt ask for it! In fact we had it overnighted from DC to the Mtl hotel!

CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

Hello everyone!

This is my first post here on VJ but I have been looking on here VERY often for my unanswered questions and concerns. I must say that it has been VERY helpful and I am so thankful for everyone's input and knowledge!!

To my surprise, I looked on here last night and saw all the interviews scheduled for March. How exciting!! Congrats to you all!! I am hoping for an April interview as this wait is becoming daunting.

I do have a couple of questions for anyone that may be able to help. My husband has a British passport but has been a permanent resident of Canada for the past 16 years. I have been reading on here about the Embassy mailing back the passport?? Im confused about this. Do they keep their passport and mail it back? Where does it get mailed to? Also, if (and when!!) he gets his interview approved, how long does he have to enter the US? Sorry for all the questions but I have tried to find the answers out hereon VJ, but havn't had much luck. Thanks so much for your help and once again CONGRATS to all you March interviews. GOOD LUCK!!!

you provide them with a postage paid envelope, they mail you back the visa inside the passport to the person residing in Canada!!. One can always ask to pick it up in person that day or the next day, but that normally doesnt happen, but why not ask--all they can do is say no! one has up to 6 months to enter the USA and activate the visa!

Hopingfor an interview date soon.

I think I have the slowest timeline on Visa journey - Married in 07/07 first filed in 08/07 and now waiting for an interview in 05 or 06 of 09. Almost two years! My lawyer said 6 months or thereabouts. phhht

So, I get the impression that IR-1/CR-1 interviews are only done in Montreal, Is that correct? If so, it's too bad, as I live one hour from Vancouver consulate. Since both 130 and 129 are approved, I now face the choice of IR1/CR1 verses K3, as It appears that neither of my daughters (17 and 20) want to move down with me to US. The GC and SSN immediately are certainly appealing, but not necessary, as I will continue to work in Canada (bordertown). So I save 500-600 dollars in costs to US govt and spend it on airfare and hotel to Mntrl. Is that a fair comparison?

What are your thought fellow VJers?

Thanks again.

Cr-1 is the far superior visa over the K3. And in the long run it does cost less. yes it sucks having to fly to Montreal for a 10 minute interview, but it such less of a hassle. No more paperwork for 2 years (minus 90 days) Best of luck

I received 2 welcome letter, and a few days later, the greencard came in the mail. 1 week after applying for the SSN card, it arrived in the mail!

I ticked off the box on the the form (think ds 230) but eventually went to the SSn office to (re) apply! One can download the form right from the SSN.gov website, which i strongly recommend you do. As well bring ur passport or greencard if you have it!

I know!! I called again tonight to talk to another operator and asked, "You are done scheduling for February?" as well as, "So now I am waiting to see if I get a March interview date?" And she said, "That is correct."

So I'm gearing back up for March now. I just want to know!!

Wow... so if it is the beginning of the month we should know soon? My two year anniversary is March 15, so does that mean we will get the IR-1 instead? Cuz the greencard takes a month to print... is that right?

Even if one has the interview before March 15, but you ACTIVATE on March 15 or after, you should get the IR-1!

CanadaPostcard Exchange!
I do not partake in the exchange program, But I have some ideas to make it better, these ideas should really help out the new "director"

1) One has to apply to gain access to the program! It is obvious that simplicity of going to a store and buying multiple post cards at once, is not working! So, for those that want to gain access to this elite group, please send ur name, mailing addy, long form birth cert, police background check, letter from ur mother vouching for you and a photo graph of 12 already bought postcards with stamps!

2) The new director will then mail out packet 1 to you@! Asking for more info, such as financial support, and directions to ur nearest post office, ensuring you know how to get there

a) If distance to Post office is more than 2 miles, you have to show proof of a drivers license, and if NO DL, must show proof of bus pass or bike

3) Upon receiving that packet, new director will mail you interview date.

Process should take anywhere from 1 week to 1.5 yrs!
