Few yrs back--that CNBC chick Suzie Orman stated the credit cards co. were going to close that loop hole of people piggy backing on to others people credit history to get a card. But from reports on VJ, it is still working for some

CanadaH&R Block did our US taxes
There are good H&R franchises and bad ones!! Back in 2005 I went to H&R Cdn/USA tax expert at Ballston mall and he was terrible!! What one can do is do a bit of research on ur own on the IRS.gov site, http://forums.serbinski.com/ forum and of course the tax thread here on VJ! That way if 1 can have a bit of an idea that the tax expert knows what he is doing! If you have RRSP's and he has no clue what form 8891 is, then maybe he isn't really an expert!! lol

Canadato become an american citizen or not
The simple version:

CANADA sees you as a CDn and USA citizen, thus dual

USA sees you just as a USA citizen!!

Yep I'm 100% American, but according to Canada I am still one of them. Now some nations do make you choose, but not Canunkia, they try and hold on to anyone they can as claim them as theirs ha ha...

Your free to go and denounce your Cdn citizenship. http://www.cic.gc.ca...enounce-how.asp

Canadato become an american citizen or not
In the US oath ceremony that one has to take, it makes ya denounce ur citizenship to other countries! last tiem I looked, USA doesnt rule the world, lol I the USA eyes, your a USA citizen and thats that! BUT you do NOT loose your cdn citizenship! Canada sees one has a Cdn citizen and USA citizen! I'm still 100% cdn lol

Canadato become an american citizen or not
The American govt sets it up to be more convenient to be a USA citizen then remain a permanent resident!! Every 10 yrs one has to go thru the process again, which isn't that difficult once ur here, but its more $$$ out the window, and possible headaches at the border! Everyone has there own reason to take citizenship or not to take it, and believe it or not there are some that are pretty much forced to take it depending on what their spouse does!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2009-08-13 14:12:00
Canadato become an american citizen or not
I just wore cdn socks--no fingers crossed!! lol Though when people ask what nationality I am-I state Cdn!! And if I was of age, i would have had no problem signing up for the Selective Service, unlke others that have come here and complained! freedom isn't free!! Loved my 15 yrs in the Cdn Armed Forses.
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2009-08-13 10:32:00
Canadato become an american citizen or not
I now have American citizenship! Didnt really want to, but thats another story that wont be told, lol! I stil consider myself 100% Cdn! Only time it dons on me that I have USA citizenship is when I travel and require my USA passport and at my last job interview when they asked if I was legally able to work in the USA--as all my employment had been with the CDn Armed Forces, lol I then had to admit to be a USA citizen, lol I actually corrected my father last night when he was talking to a neighbor here in Saskatoon. He stated I was an American. I very quickly stated, that NO, I am not an american, I am cdn, but now reside in the USA. USA is a country full fo great people, but still Canada is my true country!!

CanadaGreen Card Came no SS Card
My green card came before my SSN as well back in 2005. Simply went to the SSN office and inquired about it--nope wasn there--so I had to re-apply for the SSN at the office. Week later it arrived in the mail. Can download the SSN form at http://ssa.gov/ssnumber/ take ur Greencard//passport//birth cert for ID purposes. 1 should wait 10-14 BUSINESS days from POE, before going to SSN office and checking (gives them time to get ur info into the system)

Happens to many that check off the box on the DS-230--SSN never arrives, and you have to apply in person
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2011-03-24 14:05:00
CanadaPOE Tomorrow
One can actually work BEFORE the SSN arrives--many have----what usually happens is the company withholds your pay, until you give them the SSN #. Wait 10-14 BUSINESS days--No SSN--then goto local SSN office and inquire about it. If a # has nort been issued---simply reapply!! Best to download the form prior to going to office (just to speed things up) SSA.gov and bring ur passport and birth cert for ID purposes

ur next question will prob be drivers license, lol and that varies from STATE to STATE! Some simply exchange it, some make u do a written test and some make u do a written and driving test!!!

CanadaPOE Tomorrow

Wow, 4-6 months for her Greencard? Can she work before then? Are her ITIN and the stamp in her passport enough for her to get a job?

Also, since she's flying out of Halifax, are they going to do the POE there? They do the customs part there...

yes she will do her POE in Halifax--thats why she should get their earlier than she would normally. Yes she can work right away as she is on a CR-1 or IR-1. The stamp she has in hger passport acts as her greencard until it arrives in the mail! Not sure on ther present day timeframe, but usually they arrive within 4-6 weeks
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2011-03-25 09:29:00

Usually a fairly simple process--ensure she gets there a bit early! Many posts on here on what to do in case the SSN does not arrive after a few weeks. Good luck

thanks Flames for your goodluck wishes, my goodness that would be so disheartening to be refused entry, ok KEEP POSITIVE I WILL..

Another thing to keep in mind--is how people that got denied acted!! Some people get downright rude//ignorant! BUT if you asked them, they would say they acted very politely, lol Yes some people get denied for no real reason, but some get denied because they acted like a jerk, lol Being polite/courteous and calm gets one a long way!!

Canadadual citizenship

Actually I'm pretty confident this is illegal. As a Canadian citizen you are REQUIRED to enter Canada with your Canadian passport. I have 2 passports (and a third if I get USC). It sucks paying for them all the time but I am NOT allowed to enter Australia on a visitors visa and/or VWP or whatever... for the same reason if you're a USC you can't enter the US on a visitor visa/VWP etc.

There have been cdns on here that stated they entered on a USA passport. Some do not want to carry the Cdn passport as its only good for 5 yrs.

Canadadual citizenship

thanks! i knew this one, that id need my Canadian one for entering and and the US one to enter back in the USA.

You can use the USA passport to enter Canada as well. Not every one keeps two passports.

Canadadual citizenship

yes i realize that, i never mentioned i was applying for dual citizenship, just that i wanted to retain my CND and become a dual citizen.

And thanks for the link! Exactly the type of article i was looking for!

perfect, thank you! I didnt realize you had to pay to renounce. Silly me and taking the words id have to say for what they sounded like they meant!

There are many that have dual or more Nationalities!! Just keep in mind the USA will only see you as a USA citizen. So when you enter the USA from another country, you have to provide ur USA passport
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2011-04-02 20:09:00
Canadadual citizenship
To loose (renounce)your Cdn Citizenship one actually has to fill out a form and pay$$$$ http://www.cic.gc.ca...enounce-how.asp

so even though during the Naturalization ceremony you renounce other citizenships, in the case of Canada, one does NOT!! Quite simply the USA sees you just as a USA citizen. Canada sees you as a Cdn and USA citizen!!

I'm fairly confident i put yes to both.

CanadaShipping personal stuff to the US using UPS
QUOTE (David_n_Amber @ Jan 27 2008, 02:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
what is the curb side trick? lol

Some airports offer "check in" outside the terminal on the curb. They tend not to check the weight in some cases, thus your not forking over excess weight fees. Doesnt always work though.

CanadaShipping personal stuff to the US using UPS
one is allowed two suitcases, but watch the weight!!!! The weight varies between airlines, but 50lbs is the average per suitcase, and airlines can be picky!! Traveling to Canada this Xmas, 1 bg was 55 lbs and they wanted to charge us extra$$$ Luckily our second bad was well below the limit so we were able to transfer the excess contents to it!! One trick I have been told to do is use curb side check in if possible, they tend to "look" the other way!!

CanadaOff to England I go

Wait you are residing and working outside of the US while still on a Green Card without yet being a USC? Bad move if you do this before you get your Oath ceremony because that can put a huge wrench into your Oath. If found residing and working abroad before you get your Oath, you could be immediatley denied since they will inquire if anything has changed in your residency at the actual oath ceremony.

Not sure if I was reading what you were saying was right, but that's how it seemed. Anyways hate to put a blanket over the flame here, but if it's how I think it is, you could be in for a real bad suprise...

Warlord could be on to something here. Was back in Dec 2008 my ceremony, but I recall on the "invitation" paperwork (cant recall exact name of it) It does (I think) ask about any visits outside the USA, any addrerss changes. I could be wrong, but I recall a USCIS lady Yelling something out among us,lol
