CanadaVenting...

Thanks! I'll have to check out RBC and TD. I use Scotiabank right now so it might make sense to switch. I didn't even know that was an option!

Yep, in the last few yrs they have oponed up USA branches!! BUT as I have harped before, lol, if ur transferring large amounts of $$$$ please do ur research! I do harp on Customhouse.com but they may not be the best option. Maybe Royal is or TD is, etc etc!

CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview
I called NVC and they told me that I had my interview date, as they are the ones that set the date, not Mtl for the cr-1/ir-1

CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview
Regarding the SSN thing, it takes around 10 to 14 BUSINESS days before one MIGHT be in the SSN system, so most of the time it is useless going to the office prior to that. If after that timeframe, it is best to download the form from ssa.gov, have it all filled out, then make ur way to the office and check on it. if ur in the system, sweet, if not, just hand them the already filled out form, and ur golden! In my case, 1 week after I handed in the new form, I had my SSN card.

QUOTE (A & M @ Mar 31 2009, 08:47 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just wanted to post here because I recived a letter from MTL regarding my interview date - along with it in the envelope there was another letter for Bradley Gaylord from South Carolina and it was addresses to a lawyer. It was regarding a K-1 interview on April 15th. I do not have the letter as I am visiting the US right now, but when my mother read it to me lastnight I asked her to mail it to the address on the letter so those poor people will get notice of their interview. I thought I would post in this forum just in case anyone knows who that is or if they themselves are on VJ.

I'm sure you have already done this--but i would contact Mtl embassy and let them know of their screw up, so they can issue a new package

I think I returned my NS plates and got a partial refund for them!

You soon learn that their is no "United" in United Sates, lol Especially when it comes to getting and licensing your car! Good luck

CanadaTdap shot?
1 can always try the waiver route as well, but it may add a lot more time to ur journey!! And can still be denied!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2011-06-21 12:13:00
CanadaWhats the best day for doing POE?
Usually the hardest part at the POE is the waiting!!! Sure there is a chance one could be denied, but thats more along the lines if you lied on ur applications and somehow managed to sneak thru the process--then get to the border and they find out you had a criminal past of some sorts and the border POE officer finds out!! Best of luck and enjoy it!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2011-06-20 14:10:00
CanadaScared straight
All depends what they jotted down in the computer! Sometimes they do deny you entry, and thats it. As Cdn_wife mentioned they were denied entry, but were successful later on! Many in the same boat as them! All depends what the POE border said and jotted down!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2011-06-22 09:06:00
CanadaScared straight
Don't be upset with POE officers, they are just doing their job--be upset with the morons that try to break the law, lie to POE officers!!

Good times, not, lol!! But others can learn from ur event--make sure one has proof that you had the vacs!! I guess that was 1 of the benefits of me being in the military, had a nice book with a record of all my shots!! Now on to better things!! Best of luck

They truly are not scary people. I laughed quite a bit during my extremely short interview!! The interview itself is very quick!!

CanadaPOE

Can anyone direct me to the right forum re: POE questions for Toronto Pearson, and how likely is it I might get my VISA the day of the interview, should everything go smoothly at US consulate in Montreal.

I always say ask for it the same day, BUT expect a no answer!!! If you don't ask, for sure the answer is No!! Soem have managed to get it the same day or next, so doesnt hurt to ask. If one had a valid reason, you chances are better! Having ticketrs booked for next day is prob not a valid reason as they tell you not to book anything!

CanadaJust for fun...when is the next time you're going "home" to Canada?

it is about a 24 hour drive for us... but that is without stops.. last time we drove we left on a Saturday afternoon and got there Monday afternoon..

and yeah I know some time is better then no time but the thing is the bulk of our time their would be during the week and my parents work during the week...

I departed Saskatoon 0500 Monday Morning, and got back to DC Wed night around 2000! I did stay 2 nights in hotels! Was a long drive. Anna my dog faired ok, she doesnt like to travel! And no way my wife would do it,lol don't blame her

CanadaJust for fun...when is the next time you're going "home" to Canada?

yeah it looks like we won't be going to Canada next month.. ticket prices are just too high.. we might take a little trip to the Grand canyon though

Sorry Marilyn!! I just got back from Sask!! A long 2100 mile drive!! Do NOT stay at the Super 8 motel in fargo--rooms sucks, lol When i travel on my own, more than happy to stay at the lowest priced place possible, but the AC sucked!! Miss Canada a lot, and yes I'm lucky to be able to go back as often as I do and for extended periods of time. I truly feel bad about those that can't. Would be nicer if my wife was here, but she is away for work until July. Oh well, thats life, can't really complain, others have it far worse!! But no more Timmies, lol

I hate it when a long time passes since I've been home....thankfully my Mom and I try and switch it up, every few months we take turns visiting. Thank you Southwest for your cheap flights!

Flames ---- how was the long hike? More importantly...how did your poor dog do? :innocent:

Dog is doing well. She pants for awhile, then eventually settles down. 2030 miles from DC to saskatoon, then to calgary, now in Kamloops!! As much as she hates the drive, she hates to be left at home!!! I bought her a thundershirt, not sure if it helps, maybe a bit. http://www.thundershirt.com/
This is a breeze considering she has an airplane ride to go on this Aug when we move. Poor pup!!!

airfare this yr has really jumped!! I used to be able to fly from DC to Stoon in the mid to high 400's! I looked about 2 months out and airfare was in the high $700's!! Hopefully they come down for you marilyn! I read an article a few weeks back, that one should be constantly checking prices as they can briefly dip in price!!

CanadaJust for fun...when is the next time you're going "home" to Canada?
My 2030 mile trip from DC to Saskatoon went extremely well. No traffic at all, very little road construction. Cdn POE officer asked a few basic questions, didnt care about my dog!! First Timmies in Estevan--2 XL then--and another XL in Weyburn!! Now in Calgary, and off to Kamloops tomorrow!

And I must admit, prices for many things do seem a bit more $$$ here. I bought some tire dressing stuff in VA at $3.99, and in Stoon it was $8.99! So nice to be home again!!

People forget to realize that POE officials on any countries border have to make a decision based on their communication and evidence you providse! And they see 100's of people each shift. Its a tough job! and quite often they don't get the respect they deserve---so guess what, you want to be a jerk to them, your going to lose, lol

And sure some may be rude, but in many cases they are probably trying to maintain an authority posture, and yes a bit imitation factor! They are not suppose to be ur buddy. They have an important job to do. Like they say, walk a mile in someone else shoes, before making a judgement! lol How many idiots have come before them and tried to sneak stuff in, been lied to, etc etc Or even to the extreme--terrorist!! How would you feel as a POE guard knowingly you let in a terrorist that caused loss of life?? Pretty damn crappy! Like Neiks says they come in all shapes ,sizes, colors, religions, etc etc!! They best not give me any hassle on Monday When I cross over to Sask!! lol

Some POE officers ask to see ur passport as well, some do not. When I was a Perm resident, on 1 occasion I handed just my greencard over to the POE officer, and he wasn't pleased, lol was a real jerk about seeing my passport! Like everything else--all depends on the POE officer.

Thanks Flames. I'm assuming you mean my Canadian Passport, is that correct.

Been here 4 yrs. my first trip back to Cape Breton will be Aug 3.
for my youngest daughter's marriage.Do I just show my Green Card at POE
on my return?

All depends on the POE officer! Some just want to see the Green card, and some want to see the passport and greencard. Have a safe trip

Yep, the tightness of it is suppose to help relax them! My vet said it has worked for some of her other patients! And its only $36. I ordered it off of amazon, but u can order it from their site as well. Really not much to it, 1 could make their own very easily.

oh ya, fair # of rest stops! She is an ok traveller, but I bought one of these http://www.thundershirt.com/ She will need it for a plane ride later this summer anyways!! Money back guarantee, so we shall see.

it takes about 24 hours to drive to Canada from here but that is straight driving with no stops.. last time we drove it took us about 2 days

Think mapquest has it at 35 hrs driving from DC to Saskatoon!! I think my dog is going to hate me after this drive! I have driven from Winnipeg to DC, that was back in 2003, and wasn't too bad.

Udella....stop rubbing rub it in! B-)

I'm lucky that we live so close to DC so flights are reasonable.

I've convinced my immediate family to come down to our house for Christmas. Yay!

I read online a few weeks back that Air Canada was cutting back flying into DC. I think they cut out the Ottawa to DC route.

Airfares have gone up a lot. I used to be able to fly from DC to Stoon for around the $500 mark, now that same trip is in the 700-800 range!! Then pay for baggage.

I honestly don't think I would be happy living in a big Cdn city!! And here I am in the Washington DC area, lol I find most smaller cities/towns to be a much more relaxed, and that shows in how people interact with others!! My wife knew I wasn't happy here and she has the importunity to travel so we are off to another country this August(Not Canada, and won't say, lol) Life is an adventure. 1 of my co-workers is always saying Texas, this, Texas that, she loves it and misses it a lot!
