Canadaborder crossing
It always come down to 1 factor--The POE officer!!! You can cross 100 times with no problems and then u run into that single POE officer that says NO!! Everyone has a different experience! I traveled to DC monthly from NS never had 1 single problem, never asked to see any evidence (but I always had it) You soon learn that each POE officer has hi sown take on the guidelines! Al 1 can do is have the evidence with you and be prepared. NEVER LIE!!! A simple lie can really make ur life miserable. Huge difference between a denied entry and a ban! We can all tell you we had no problems, and that 99% of people have no problems--but it all comes down to that 1 POE officer!

I had these two friends in high school who always ordered the french fries and gravy from the school cafeteria. They then would take 6 or 7 packets of vinegar and dump it in the gravy

Canadamore on taxes

Has anyone here been collecting CPP, disability, etc and then continued collecting after immigrating to the US? I'm wondering what the tax implications of that are. ie, do you have to file both US and Canadian taxes every year and be taxed by both countries? Or how does that work?

Apologies if this has been discussed before. I did a few searches but came up empty. Maybe I'm not looking for the right terms.

Thanks mucho!

Probably better to ask here: http://forums.serbin...c565d0479a78660

CanadaVisiting my Fiance in the U.S. while immigration is in process
Very simple--always tell the truth. If in any way they think you are lying/falsifying info, they can make ur life very miserable. A simple denied entry is no big deal in the grand scheme of things, if they slap you with a ban, well life wil really suck! As yes you will get to ur k1 interview AND then have to file a waiver! And you think Mtl is slow now, wait for them to act on that waiver! So simply always tell the truth and u will be fine and bring evidence, esp any immigration paperwork

CanadaVancouver or Montreal for Interview?

We are filling out the I-129F and I am going to be finishing my masters in September in Vancouver. I was planning on moving home to Ontario until the K-1 Process is complete. I am not sure whether or not I should put Vancouver or Montreal for where my package should be sent too? I have read online you must be residing on the western side of Canada to have your package sent there. Which may not be the case as I might be in Ontario before then. Have any Canadians dealt with this?

unofficially--some have gave a Western province addy so they could have the interview in Van(as its a much speedier consulate)---when in reality they were living in an Eastern provinvce.

CanadaPOE on Monday
1) does it have the compliance sticker on the inside of the door or in the engine comp area? Sometimes that works

2) you don't have to do it at the border crossing, you can go to the airport as well as long as it as Custom officials at it

CanadaI have a surprise!

Throughout the last year you tried to tell me this many times..and i was skeptical. But you did end up being right Flames. Like you and others said, there's probably a good reason (unknown to me!! lol ) that we never got the other two houses that we really wanted. And right now i'm fine with that.

That very first house that was auctioned off 2 weeks before closing, was only 10k less than this one. had no appliances, only 2 bed 1 bath, needed a new roof, furnace etc. I ended up with the much better deal this time around.

And the final awesome piece? I got my answer and FHA # before the April deadline, when it would have costed me like almost 800$ more for the upfront PMI and also montly increases. I asked my LO If he could get us that number and he did on monday, the next day we had approval. This team actually cared about their customers. And they deal with my every question etc. :luv:

Maybe you can email my wife and let her know I was right for once, lol

CanadaLets' go BLACKHAWKS Let's go!
Being in Nicaragua, I'm pretty much forced to watch the games online! Mind you NBC does show some hockey on the weekends.

I think Shanahan has done a decent job! He stated on the Weber incident that if the Red Wing player had been hurt and missed a game, he would have suspended him. Nobody is perfect. Nice to see the league is suspending players even in the play offs--at 1 time they would have never done this!

Not sticking up for Torres, but people that don't play the game don't understand how a big check can alter the game! it really gets ur team into a game! And like I said before, the hits can happen so fast that all 4 officials can miss not seeing a player leave the ice to make a hit. But as the Great Kerry Fraser stated in his blog--when you have a known "goon" on the ice, he was taught to make sure u pay a bit more attention to that player when he is on the ice!! Just glad Hossa appears to be fine

CanadaLets' go BLACKHAWKS Let's go!
That was a mean hit and would have been perfectly legal--except he left his feet a bit and probably at the speed of play, the refs missed it! Listening to the TV commentators--it took them a bit to mention Torres leaving his feet----(And they have the production guys that are able to review things very quickly, that tell them) Getting sick of all these high sticks, cross checks, hits to the head. Players have gotten to fast, big, equipment is made out of steel! Need to do something quickly! Would love if they went to a bigger ice surface!!

CanadaLets' go BLACKHAWKS Let's go!
I like the blackhawks, but like the under dogs Coyotes as well..All the ####### that franchise has been thru, and they still put out a good team!! I have never been to Phonenix, but they say 1 of the big reason hockey will never flourish there, is that the rink is like 30 min outside the city!!

CanadaEmployment Insurance from Canada
Been MANY posts on here on how many have troubles depositing a Cdn cheque into a USA bank. Yes, for some it is no problem! So check with your bank. Some charge fees, some give crappy exchange rates and some are just clueless! I had cheques mailed back to me for some bogus reason. Have used Customhouse since 2005 and it works very well. Last yr it was bough tout by Western Union, but still works very well.

CanadaRecent cross country move with U-haul

We are wondering about doing the same thing. It would be very easy for us to make the 20 min trip across the bridge and grab a Uhaul instead of driving one directly from Windsor. I haven't checked with our local uhaul dealers yet, but I am sure there is probably some larger fees when trying to uhaul "internationally" I am not sure how the CBP would handle it on either side, maybe I should call them and ask.

Unfortunately there is no "pod" service in our area

You can go onto the Uhaul web page and check out the price! What you see online is what you will pay! At least it was for me in 2004!! I went to a Uhaul dealer he quoted me the exact same price as I had searched online. No hidden fees

CanadaRecent cross country move with U-haul

Has anyone recently moved cross country (approx 2500 miles TN to AB) using a uhaul truck? We are going to be moving back to Canada soon and wanted to know approx how much it cost in gas? we are looking at either a 17 or 20' truck.

Thanks!

in Dec 2004 when I moved to DC from Nova Scotia, I had a 17 foot truck and I think I got like 10mpg!! But I bagged it, I was doing 75 mph a lot of the time, could have done a lot better if I babied it,lol On U-hauls website, it even states 10 mpg,lol

Enjoy the drive, I drove from DC to Saskatoon last May!! Just me, my dog and my Honda CRV!! Great time! Think it was almost 2100 miles 1 way.

CanadaCrossing border by land...
I drove to Saskatoon from DC and back last year. On my return going through the POE I was actually pulled aside so the agriculture inspector could look inside my car!! I had just brought back Kraft peanut butter for my wife and they didnt care. To be honest not sure what they were looking for, but you can find the list on the USA customs web page.

One can buy Cdn stuff online, but lot of places really mark it up. Your best to just have family members mail it to u.

CanadaWhat to wear for the interview

flames did interview in the grand commonwealth of verginyah, so i'm sure most of these soon to be amuricans just wanted to look the part!

(i'm amurican. and live in verginyah. leave my mullet alone.)

The waiting room in the in the Merrifield office is rather large!! Just odd to see people dressed in suits, then to the opposite end of the spectrum. I guess if they are dressed like that, they either come from the boonies or are not well off. Not for me to judge. As they say dress for success.

CanadaWhat to wear for the interview
Nothing special, casual will do! At my Naturalization interview in VA, holey moley saw people in cut off jeans, muscle shirts, but who knows, they could be very poor. You will go up to a window a few times, but the interview will be in a small room! You on 1 side and the interviewer on the other side of the glass! Very quick and 99% of the time very painless.
