You could be waiting for months and have no SSN show up - it is a spotty process to have it mailed to you Good luck They say to wait 10-14 BUSINESS days until u go to the SSN office! But yes do not wait too long. Take along an already filled out SSN application just in case) along with ur passport (with I-551/stamp in it) and your birth cert for ID. Keep in mind even with all the proof that the CDN citizen is returning, the USA POE officer does not have to let u gain entry into the USA--in other words, don't loose ur cool and argue,lol Your will never win. Canada	Temporary Return Of US GC Holder To Canada	Yeah, it seems like I will be SOL if I stay out of the country for as long as this project will last. It just stinks to have to do the entire GC process again. A friend of mine had to surrender his GC last year because, although he had made regular visits to the US since returning to live in Canada, he was planning to stay in Canada permanently. On another note, has anyone ever taken a car that was purchased in the US to Canada that was not paid off? I am thinking of replacing my wife's car with an AWD car that will deal with the snow better and it seems the prices are significantly better here, even considering the duties. Ya, if you can buy the car in the USA--it may be way cheaper. Was an online article I was reading awhile back, on how cars even made in Canada and then shipped to the USA are still way cheaper in the USA. Another thing you may want to look into is how soon you buy it before the move. If you buy it just before you move, may cost ya more!! I now when I moved from Manitoba to Nova scotia----I went to register my new car in NS and since it had been less than 30 days, NS was going to charge me Nova scotia sales tax on my car(Even though I had paid Manitoba sales tax)!! BUT the lady said that if I come back next week, wink wink (then it was more than 30 days) no NS sales tax!! I was fortunate to get a nice gal at the NS registery desk,lol. Regarding the loan, best to just call up the bank that you plan to use!! Car salesman will tell you anthing!!! When you were looking to buy a 2011 CRV, 1 salesman told me that my warrnaty would be valid in Nicaragua--NOT!! Which is another thing you want to look into----if the USA bought vehicle will have a warranty in Canada---lot do not!!! Canada	How long does DHL keep documents	For people interested, I called DHL/Loomis express and they said the document are usually kept 5 days and returned to sender. Now with the tracking number it is possible to call to tell them to keep the document for longer. It doesnt matter if its done by the RCMP or city police or the commisionaires as long as its done CANADA wide and in all the names you have used. No criminal record = no fingerprinting. Canada	EI question	ok just to be sure I am reading this correctly, you are stateside now, married and won't be going back to Canada. You will not be eligible for benefits because you aren't in Canada. Terri They may require a copy of your I-94 to prove the date you left Canada. WRONG!! A Cdn moving to the USA to be with a spouse IS Eligible to claim EI. A k1 as the Op is aware, has to wait for her EAD. A cr-1/IR-1 since it already has work authorization can claim EI right away.....of course it all depends if they have enough qualifying work hrs while in Canada. Of course the Cdn Gov't is always looking to stop benefits, so maybe in the future this will disappear. Your EI claim will go thru the Inernational said of the house. Canada	When visiting Canada....	Last June, we drove up to Toronto for my brother's graduation. We bought him an Asus tablet that was about 500 bucks. My husband told the border patrol person that it was a gift for his graduation, declared the amount and I was SURE we would have to pay taxes. But the guy just waved us through. While I think it's important to be honest and follow the gift guidelines at all times, I also think that enforcing the guidelines greatly depends on the CBP officer you talk to Yeppers!!!! I came into Customs in Saskatoon---I was over my Rum limit and told the POE officer--said my friends were too cheap to visit me in Nicaragua,lol He didnt charge me duty!! I'm pretty sure I would not be happy living in Toronto, far too big. I have been in Saskatoon since June 1st. I was to head back to Nicaragua early July, but my mom passed away very unexpectedly mid June to a ruptured artery/vein in her head. So stayed back to help out dad and of course enjoy more Tim Hortons,lol While back, rented a car and took off for a small trip to Edmonton, Kamloops and Calgay!! Love driving thru the Cdn Rockies!! Been to many countries over the world, but pretty hard to beat the beauty of the Mountains. Best of luck with the Cdn immigration. How is that site--roadtocanada?? Is it as helpful as VJ? My petitioner just filled out the privacy release form and typed up a well worded personalized letter in regard to our case and we are currently faxing it to the Senator that handles her state. His website is fantastic and has all the procedures easily outlined on how to get his assistance. Sounds like this is a routine thing for his office to handle according to his website. I have done the 3299 for the movers, have the 2 forms for the car. Is the customs form something I do when I get there? Hope it goes smoothly and the movers show up quick after. Canada	Traveling To and From Canada during CR-1 Processing	lol, u need to work on your search skills as this question is asked weekly here,lol Majority of Cdns have NO problem visiting during the k1//cr-1//ir-1 process.. Yes some do, why?? They answered the POE officers question wrong, such as used the word "live" vice "visit" or POE officer is having a bad day, etc etc. I traveled monthly to DC,never had a problem. Canada	Anyone else disappointed to get a Montreal Case Number ?	Thanks for your help! When I called the Calgary consulate today, they weren't much help at all. I was told that they mainly do non-immigrant visas, but they sometimes make exceptions and will do immigrant interviews. I asked what that meant for me and was told that nothing could happen until they hear from the NVC and that I can't change my consulate. I then searched through the forums and found a number for visas and when I called them, the woman told me that it would probably be directed to Vancouver. It's good to know that the NVC will send it automatically to Vancouver. And if they screw up and send it to MTL, you can email them and vancouver...and get it switched to VAN, if you choose to(van is usually much faster!)	Flames9_RN	Male	Canada	2012-07-31 21:22:00
