Here's something off-topic: how's the mortgage situation in the US? I want a relatively cheap mortgage since prices are still nice and low in the Pittsburgh area, but I'm afraid that with the market crash I won't be eligible. Will I have a hard time getting an FHA loan? I keep looking up houses and MANNNNNN I wanna house so bad! If I have to live in the US, I want a place we can really call our own ;)

All depends on ur financial situation//credit scores!

Going to do the trolley tour. It appears that its actually good for 2 days, sweet!! Will buy our tickets online in a few.

Bring on the scammers!!! Guess they have seen our craigslist ad for the missing ring! Moron calls my cell phone, wife answers, and he asks her to describe the rings, ok fine, and of course he says, yep tis is the ring. So wife asks him to describe the necklace and ear rings--and he just hangs up!! Area code is from chicago as well! oh well, passed the # on to the police officer handling our case, but it wont amount to anything. If ya want to make a few thousand dollars, find me those rings, lol

Another nice day in RI, going to suck to leave next Sunday to head back to VA!!! People are far more friendly! When I go for my morning runs, other runners actually wave back, lol

On a sad note, wife lost (possibly stolen) wedding/engagement rings last Tuesday at gym!! Sure they were insured, but they were her deceased grandmothers rings and they were well over 100 yrs old!! Sooo hoping someone would return them, but I guess not!! We put signs up and everything and offered a substantial reward, but no luck.

Off to Boston on Thursday for 2 nights. Not sure what our plans are. Think a walking tour of Fenway park would be cool and seeing the restaurant "Cheers" from the TV show. Not sure what else. Wife mentioned the Freedom trail and Fennal Hall?????

Chilling on the deck, hearing the waves come crashing ashore and enjoying my Timm Hortons, life is good----Until we have to leave, lol

Sorry to hear about your SIL krikit, what a terrible thing for her to go through. :D

Driving while tired is becoming a big problem! Some research has shown it to be just as dangerous as drunk driving but unfortunately most of us don;t see it that way ...yet.

Oh I agree it prob is!! I know many times I have found myself "waking up" while driving! Scares the ####### out of ya! Some times I do pull over and take a nap! Quite often I buy a coffee for the trip home! With no traffic, my drive is only 20 minutes, BUT quite often its closer to 45 min with traffic, sometimes close to 1.5 hr. I only live 16 miles away, HATE DC ,lol

This is the one my husband has, actually... I think he should give it to me!!! ;) Thanks a lot Flames and Pauley... I think I might go with Costco (I love Costco too, Flames) they have the Magellan 1440 4.3 on special for like 80$ -- sounds good to me. Right price and it seems to have the stuff that I'm looking for.
Thanks a lot for your input, very helpful!
:D

The beauty with Costco is that you have that 90 day return window! If ya don't like it, return it! I think i will make a Costco run tomorrow. Don't really need anything, but since when does that matter, lol

'Specially if you're chopped up nice and good! j/k!

Hey, question for you guys, I'm looking to buy a nice little GPS but I don't need anything fancy or crazy expensive. I'd like to keep it below 150$. I would also like the kind that 'talks' to me and tells me street names and not just how many feet I have to turn and stuff. Anyone using one that they love? I am looking at the Magellan 1440 4.3 I also like that size screen too, 4.3"

thanks for any and all input.
:D

We have the Garmin Nivi 265wt Walmart has it for $128 http://www.walmart.c...ndingMethod=rr

If u use BING.com, you can get an evern better deal!! GOTO bing.com on left tab, click on SHOPPING, on next page type in Garmin 265 and if ya see a MONEY symbol flowed by the words "cashback) ur eligible for a certain percentage back!! it can vary from 2% up to 30% for some stores!!! Sears has it for $129 plu s8-10% back in cash! With BING you dont get the $$$ back right away takes 45 days, BUT they will send u a cheque. As wel lBING $$ back program ends on JULY 31!~~~ I have used it a great deal! Just got back 30% on my shoes I bought at endless.com

back to the Garmin 265 WT. We have never gotten lost using it. It has free FM traffic updates which is only so-so! It will say no traffic, but then why I'm I going 5mph when the posted speed is 65? lol or it states there is traffic, when their isnt any!!

There is a 265T, but i belive the screen is a bit smaller, its price is lower as well

costco has the garmin 1350 for $129. I like buying my stuff at Costco as 1 has 90 days to return stuff with no questions asked and they add on an extra yr of warranty!

CanadaSilly question about driving a US vehicle in Canada....

I know where I'm from that you cannot tint your front windows (pass or drivers). But down in the US we can.. so of course, DH's windows are tinted.

Does anyone know if this is going to end up being an issue for us this summer while on vacation? You can still see into our car quite well, I won't let him tint them any darker, I already have to wind down my window to see at night at some poorly lit intersections when it's raining.

I believe each State has rules to how dark one can tint their windows--Same goes for each province, as I know I had many friends up here in Canada get their windows tinted. I guess it depends on how by the book a cop is. If your just visiting, most likely one would have no problems, thats just a guess.

CanadaHow have you changed?
Back in My Air Force days--Pilots had to have so many flight hours each month, so sometimes the planes went up on pilot trainers---they usually got to pick the routes........Quebec was a popular route as they would touch down and have a friend meet them at the airport with curds!!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2012-06-04 10:24:00
CanadaHow have you changed?

I think the Eh thing is maybe more of a Eastern Canada thing

I have lived in Victoria, heard it a lot there. From Sask. used a lot there, lol I dont use it as much, but people that have just met me, usually say they know am a Canuck from "eh" or "about" and a few others! lol

CanadaHow have you changed?

I don't get the Eh thing.. I have never said it nor do I know anyone who did or does..lol

Are you sure your from Canada? lol

I have probably changed for the worse!! I'm far more impatient driving, I'm not near as mellow as I used to be! But that's probably caused more by living in a big city (DC Area!!) Now residing in Nicaragua and love it a lot better!! Mind you Managua is pretty big and super poor and super hot!!

I still refer to myself as Canadian when people ask my Nationality! Which is usually very obvious as 99% of the time have a Canada hockey hat on. Still wear my Cdn socks, lol I head back to Saskatchewan this Friday for 33 days and can't wait!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2012-05-29 15:53:00
CanadaPassports one or both do you use
They keep saying Canada is going to be switching to a 10 yr Passport....no clue if there is any truth in that. I still have both. But if I had a large family....and only plans was to travel to Canada, I'd prob just stick with the USA passport.
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2012-06-08 14:42:00
CanadaPassports one or both do you use

Well after months and months of waiting I finally got my email saying my oath is scheduled. Now that has me thinking about passports.

What does every one else do? Do you use both passports or just the US passports.

Our Canadian Passport will be expiring in Aug. Also the younger 2 will be USC once I get mine, the older two will have to wait 2 more years for theirs, so no matter what I need to get their passports renewed. I just don't know if I want to get 3 Canadian and 3 US passports. It gets a bit expensive. At lest the baby can use just her birth certificate for now.

Ok lets here your reasons please and thank you

coming into the USA as a USA citizen--you MUST use ur USA passport--its that simple!! And NO your Naturalization certifiate does not work, lol THey said that a dozen times at my ceremony!

Going to Canada, you can use ur USA passport as well, you don't need a Cdn passport. On the USA passport it says ur country of birth, so they will know ur a Canuck!!

Yep in ur case it would get $$$$ pretty quick

CanadaUrgent Help Needed
As you know, nothing happens fast with Montreal. If the upcoming reception is overseas, it was probably in ur best interest for her to have kept her Cdn Passport until AFTER the reception if its early July! I guess they could be fast and turn it around quickly, but as you know Mtl tends to be slower rather than faster.

If it were I, I would keep what you have and go with that, AND in the mean time, get your finger prints done, just in case, that way your not waiting longer then you have to. But thats me! lol

CanadaNew Embassy Rules

That's weird, because when I was there I don't remember it being very busy. The waiting area was maybe 1/4 full? Its probably really busy some days and slower the next depending on the day of the week or something like that.

But in any event, aren't USC's automatically granted access to an American consulate? I remember reading a review on here a while back where the Canadian brought her fiances mother because he was deployed overseas and wanted the support. She was allowed in with her American passport I do believe. But if you were to bring your Canadian mother, they wouldn't let her in, because she is an "extra relative" I could be wrong. In any event, I don't think the guidelines on the website apply to fiances/spouses.

Im pretty sure that page has been on the Mtl Website for many years.

CanadaNew Embassy Rules

I think it's clear the fiance isn't required to go but some of us want to. Thanks Chris for emailing, let me know the consulate's response. I had planned to go with Jay to his interview so we could hang out in Montreal and it'd be much nicer to be able to go into the consulate with him than have to wait anxiously in the hotel. The recent consulate reviews had people who'd had their fiances/spouses with them I thought...

you would think many things are clear, but the same stuff gets asked a zillion times.

I have emailed the consulate but am waiting to hear back from them. It think it does make sense that the fiance(e) would be able to go in as they are not "extra" relatives, but will see what the consulate emails back.

God Bless you all

I' sure ur aware of this---but the American is not required at the interview. The interview itself is lucky to last 10 minutes, it is very quick. In other countries it may be highly beneficial for the American to attend, not the case in Canada

I believe that posting has always been the case. They don't want oodles of family members//friends coming to the consulate. I'm sure a spouse/fiance would be fine.

Too funny, there is one 2 blocks from my work. Isn't Canada Day just before the July 4th weekend? I am actually curious what they'll be doing as it's right downtown here. CanadaNeed July 2012 Calgary Interview

We're going to Calgary on the 3rd week of July and would like to apply for a US tourist/visitor visa, my hubby would like to reschedule for July. I wonder if it's possible to reschedule it? Anyone here knows someone that will cancel/reschedule their July 2012 interviews to a later date? Please please let us know.

Also, is it possible to go to US consulate and just wait in any case some interviews ended early that day and we can still fit on the time?

You have pretty much given us ZERO pertinent information to help you. Is this person a Canadian??? If so, Cdns do not need to goto a USA consulate to get a tourist visa, they get that at the Port of Entry (POE).

But we need more info. Welcome to VJ

CanadaBringing my car across the border on POE

I spoke to Handa Canada Finance today and told them my new address. They were fine with it. As I will now be in receipt of my CPP, which payments are made into the Canadian account that pays this loan, Honda Canada was fine with it.

I also thought there was some EPA sticker on the frame of the door but keep forgetting to look to see if it really is there.

Ah, this is all so confusing.

I guess u need to go and look at ur car and see if the sticker is on ur door and sometimes its in the engine department or on the hood. There was 1 case where the POE officer would not accept that sticker, but thats prob in the minority! 1 can contact honda canada and see if they can email/fax u the paperwork. Ensure u have ur VIN handy

CanadaDoes USC need to come to Visa Interview in Montreal for my son?
If the person is a Canadian citizen (and not from or lived in a high fraud/terrorist country) the answer is no. Many just attend the interview o their own! But if the Cdn citizen is from one of those high fraud/terrorist countries the answer is probably still NO, but expect to be put on Administration Process which can take awhile to get sorted out.

Hi all. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I spoke with customs today and I have to contact the manufacturer to get the letter stating it conforms to us safety standards. The sticker on tr door states manufactured by Chrysler Canada but at te bottom states made in USA. Anyways at the time I enter with my visa package I give them the letter snd they register it. No mention of paying duty. Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

Hopefully u can get that letter. A few posters on here said the manufacturer would NOT issue the compliance letter. Not sure why not.

Yes, temporarily.
