PhilippinesFinally done at SLEC
Today, upon arriving at SLEC for my daughter's xray result, I got the wonderful news that she only needed her 2nd chickenpox vaccine and end her medicals. We arrived at SLEC at 1:40pm (her appointment was 2pm), went up to the second floor and gave the guard there her receipt which was picked up after about an hour (NOTE: hers was the only receipt in the box). Waited another hour or so, still not called at the check-out counter. My impatience got the better of me and I went up to the front to ask what the deal was? Was told that they had to wait for the (darned) doc to go through her papers..like how hard is it to read that her xray was negative? So, I go back to my seat and after another half-hour was called to the counter to sign her papers. Now, after that stage, the person at check-out bring the finished papers to the immunization room and the applicant waits to be called. Another half-hour passed and the person who was BEHIND me in line got called to the immunization room. I thought that somebody was in charge of vaccines for the adults and another in charge of the kids. Then a couple more names were called...still not us. So...losing patience again, I went to the room and asked if my daughter was going to be called anytime soon. They looked at the files in the room and hers was not there blink.gif Now Gracey REALLY loses patience now and tells them rather sternly that the child's papers had been brought in earlier and pointed out people who were behind me in the line at the check-out having been given their vaccines with my daughter yet to be given hers. They called the man who had held my daughter's papers..and it took him a while to produce it. I was soooo mad. My daughter has been awake since 6:30am (she had classes) and I have had little sleep the night before and was also from work, driving through the mad Manila traffic and the past gov't protesters just to make it in time for her follow-up. We were finally done at the second floor past 5pm. Imagine that???5pm! Downstairs at the releasing section, there was sa group of adults who saw my outburst and told me that there had been people in the 2nd floor who had sweet-talked the check-out conter people to put their files ahead of others mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif Like we all weren't in a hurry!!!!! Finally out of SLEC at 6:30pm. Geeeeeez.....

So...to all about to have their medicals, keep a close eye on your file/receipt. Take note of the people being called before and after you. This is a first-come, first-served thing; the only process not first-come, first-served is the releasing process.

Thankfully, I am done with this step.

PhilippinesWorrying about skin problems in future medical...
Get a certification from your dermatologist if you can. I was asked about the marks some previous lesions had left and, well, the doc knew I was a doc, hence I probably knew what i was talking about.

Hi VJ,

Hi VJ family. I am from philippines and file for immigrant visa. My husband is in US right now.
I will having an appointment in the third week of December 2008. Then they want me to go to ST. Lukes Hospital for medical. Now here is my questions i want to know.

1. If i had interview on that day, so when will i need to go to ST. lukes for medical?
2. What should i need to bring to ST. lukes?
3. How much is the payment?
4. Can i get the result within that day?

About this coming interview to me. They dont put time for my interview just only date.

- What is the best thing I will do so I wont miss in that appointment?
- What should i need to bring during the interview?
-How long the interview get done? Or how long should i need to wait for that time?

Actualy I had attorney who file for my immigrant visa. I am still confuse for everything.About the questions they may ask for me. Any advice much be appreciated.

My interview is scheduled Dec 9. Went to have our medicals with my daughter Nov 26th and we were finally done Dec 2 d/t Dec 1 holiday plus my daughter had to have a CXR before she could get her immunization. So at least a week or more before your interview would be fine. Mondays are the busiest days and it would take you ages to finish. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and was done in about 3 hours for the first day. Other than the payment for the medical, dont forget to bring your passport and 3 2x2 pics taken in a manner similar to the visa photos. At the end of your medicals, they will hold on to your passport and will forward it to USEM along with the medical report. Also, bring a BLACK pen as that is the only color they will accept. If you have any medical records, bring those too, esp if you had undergone any surgical procedure. Oh..and be sure to have a very good meal before going..you never know how long you'll be in there. Results will be given same day as your immunization...well, at least a copy of your vaccination record will be given to you. They will be the one to forward the results to USEM.

Thing about attorneys....they never seem to tell you anything and get a big payload out of something you could've done yourself ( and probably at a much faster pace too!). A great majority of us on this site did everything on our own...and did pretty well, I must say.

As for the interview, you may want to call the embassy about that. Earliest time is 6:30am and you would have to be there at least an hour early. BTW...do you have a CENMAR already? You should get that if you don't have it. With document verification suspended for now, you will be asked for it. Whatever you submitted with your DS-230, you should have with you. Add the notarized copy of your I-864 affidavit of support too, other docs that will prove your identity and, of course, proof of a bonafide marital relationship.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE!!!

PhilippinesUSEM INTERVIEW TODAY, DEC 9
Had our interview today. Our day started out when we left the house at 4am and arrived at USEM before 5am.

5:00am - Immigrant visa applicants with a 6:30am interview were called to fall in line in front of the gate and present appointment letters with a valid ID (apparently, youngh children are exempt from the valid ID). We were then told to have a seat and wait to be told to enter the building.

6:00am - After what must've been like forever, we were allowed to through the gate and into the Embassy but not without again presenting the appointment letters and the valid ID. Alec and I were able to get a seat in the front row and thus was among the first to be given numbers. Appointment papers were again asked for prior to issuing numbers. Again told to have a seat and wait for our number to be flashed.

7:15am - We were called to Window 15. Greeted by a nice young Filipina who asked me my name and asked Alec her name. Asked who my petitioner was, when and where was he born, where he lived, what he did for a living, when and where we met, when we first met personally and how many times he has been to visit, when he last visited, and asked who his parents were. Asked for phone records, money remittances, wedding pictures and letters and emails. No NSO docs presented, no NBI's, no CENMAR/CENOMAR. Asked if support was being given via the bank and I said yes. Oh...asked too when we were married. Also asked if I was married to Alec's biologic father. Afll these in about 10 mins or so and I was asked to have a seat again and wait to be called for finger-scanning.

7:30am - Biometric finger-scanning done. Again, Alec was exempted from this. Told again to have a seat and await calling for the final interview.

8:20am - Called to Window 32. Interviewed by a kind middle-aged American gentleman. Greeted me by my married name and Alec as well. Of course, I greeted him back. Asked my petitioner's name, when we were married, how and when we met, when was his first visit and his next visit and if he has been back since our marriage. Asked if he was married before and if he had any children during that marriage. Gave me back the letters and emails, scanned thru our wedding album, then asked about Ryan's family, his mother and siblings, where they lived. Also asked what he did for a living....actually, he asked that twice. Scanned my DS-230 and asked what specialty I was practicing, which I answered accordingly. All the while during the interview and reviewing the docs before him he would pause at times to type into his computer. I asked if he needed my CENMAR (because I saw that the pre-screener had written that I did not have a CENMAR) and he said that he had my CENOMAR dated August 2007. Told him I had gotten a new one as per requirement and he took a look at it and gave it back, then typed some more, stamped our papers, then typed some more then finally closed the folders and told me, "Okay, ma'am, your visas are approved. You will be called again one last time at Window 37 where you will be given instructions." I smiled at him and thanked him..."Thank you very much!"...and left the cubicle trying to stop smiling. I was out of that room a little after 8:30am.

8:35am (or so) - called to Window 37 and given a pink slip star_smile.gif star_smile.gif star_smile.gif Told to go to the Delbros counter and pay the delivery fee.

Was out of USEM at 8:50am kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

I am so very very happy!!!!! My OCD paid off quite well biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Called Ryan soon as I got in the car and he has since posted on the IR/CR page and called my mother-in-law and posted also on the familt group site. Indeed a very, very Merry Christmas for me!!!!

Am offering a month-long thanksgiving at a church. God is oh so good! Praises be to Him!!! innocent.gif

Now...some notes to those yet to be interviewed....

1. Do not bring even a single electronic device into the embassy....not even a simple calculator. A lot of applicants had a problem with this.
2. Double-check that you have all necessary forms filled out. Some pre-screeners hav a short fuse and will blatantly let you know.
3. Pre-screeners ask for different things. Is better to have more than you think they will look for rather than not hand them anything when they ask for it. So check your papers...docs, proofs of relationship especially, and photos. They will always ask for photos.
4. Pay attention to the numbers being flashed on the screen. Numbers are not called in any particular order and if you miss your turn, you will have to wait a LOOOOOONG time before your number is called again. Plus, you will be awarded with the ire of the pre-screener or interviewer.
5. Bring a jacket, for those who are cold-intolerant. Dress appropriately. There were those who came in in jeans and sneakers and a pre-teen boy in long shorts and sneakers...there was even a man dressed in a plain shirt with an unbuttoned fatigue-print jacket and pants and sneakers. They are honestly not enticing to look at. Remember, your appearance already will create an impression on the pre-screener and the interviewer.

So...I can now sit back and await visa delivery, place my ticket reservations and start wrapping presents...not to mention start reviewing Alec for her exams smile.gif

Thank you to everybody in this VJ Family...you have all been a big help and a big inspiration to me and Ryan.
To those still waiting.....just be patient...your time will come and you will be ready star_smile.gif

Hmm....I believe we have just set a new record...from filing to approval... innocent.gif

Yes its because of the positive skin test. My son got the same annotations too. I was told that when my son gets to US, he will be required to have blood test for TB.

CONGRATS GRACEY! When are you leaving?

We are quite definite on leaving April 7th after Alec's graduation and getting her grades. Would be a little of 4 months since the medical. Looking at a Chicago POE. And you?

Was not told anything about that by SLEC. Am guessing this is the Quantiferron test. Our poor babies will get yet another stab in the arm.....

That's what you call it nga yata. Anyway, its not cheap daw. Hay! Im leaving after Christmas and New Year, POE is either LA or Detroit depends on the airline that has the cheapest rate, PAL or Northwest.

NWA is good, I hear but what I don't like is the 2 change of planes prior to POE...at least that's what I saw when I was looking for a MNL-Chicago O'hare flight.

Anyway, I am just concerned about how long Alec's medical results will be valid. Will it still be 6 months for her or is it reduced to 3 months? An early February trip to the Midwest....BRRRRRR! But if that is the case and we need to be in the US at least by then, then I don't have much of a choice.

PhilippinesVISAS RECEIVED...WOOOOHOOOO!!!
Woke up this morning at 7am to a message from Delbros saying that our visas will be delivered today. I could not contain my excitement and was unable to concentrate much on work. Arrived home past 1pm, welcomed by two packages on the table....our passports and visas!!! Couldn't be a better gift to come home to smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

So, I opened the plastic pouches to get the passports and called CFO to ask about registering Alec and getting the stickers. Told to photocopy the Immigrant Data Summary that was attached to the MYE (not MBE --- Mysterious Brown Envelope --- because the envelope was Yellow biggrin.gif ) as well as the visa itself and the passport. Did this with my scanner as the quality is much, much better.

As I was putting the envelopes back into the plastic pouch, I noticed an additional annotation on Alec's Data Summary..."Class A or B TB - requires attention of USPHS (US Public Health Service) at POE". What does this mean? I was not advised anything at SLEC. Is this because of her positive skin test? What is going to happen at the POE?

Still I am very thankful for getting our visas quite fast... 2 days after our interview. star_smile.gif

Applied online at e-census, paid for it at a Unionbank branch and it was delivered to my doorstep after 5 days. Is faster than waiting in line at the main office where you get it in 10-14 days.

I suppose the soonest she can get it, she should bring it straight away to USEM.

Do you have the link to do that online? Thanks

Click on CENOMAR. don't worry. it will be a CENMAR when they start processing it.

PhilippinesNOW, DON'T USE XOOM
We used money transfers just twice since we were engaged. Never used it again d/t the added amount being asked in order to send money, plus the hassle ---- sometimes you could not get it in USD, which I prefer getting over Php. Hubby opened an online account with an international bank and we have never had a problem with it. When he came home for the wedding, he brought the ATM card with him and left it to me. When he went back to the US, he added me to the account, after getting my two government-issue ID's and my Philippine TIN (I would think the local SSS would do too). No charge for transfer with a very small amount charged for withdrawals. Plus...you get to have an added proof of the marital relationship...

But perhaps your problem is related to the holiday season...lots of people remitting money back to RP.

Just asking..
\

the reason she done skin test bcoz she was exposed..

Exposure to TB does not warrant a TST. To start with, we are already exposed every single day of our lives, whether we like it or not. Her Xray is normal...so what is supposed to be treated? Although local consensus guidelines dictate that people who have had exposure to PTB undergo prophylaxis of at least 6 months.

As to whether or not she can lie about her exposure to TB...well....I leave that decision up to her. I did not lie to the SLEC doc.

ryandgraceyFemalePhilippines2008-12-18 05:25:00
PhilippinesSomeone can answer my question's
SLEC only does skin testing on children above 2 years old. These kids do not have a mandatory CXR, except if their TST result is positive. Adults do not get a TST; just an Xray. If her CXR turns out positive for TB infiltrates, she will be required to undergo 3 days consecutive sputum tests, for which she will have to wait 2 months for the results. If she has an interview date already and it turns out that she needs the sputum tests, SLEC will reschedule it.

How long has she been taking meds anyway?

Since USEM has stopped doing the document verification they seem to be "hitting up" married peeps for recent CENOMAR and marriage index a LOT more.
In the past spouses were seldom asked for such. May have something to do with the large amount of fake NSO documents in the Philippines.

So true...

CENOMAR is CErtificate of NO MARriage which we all get prior to applying for a marriage license. CENMAR is CERtificate of MARriage which is basically like the CENOMAR, only with an annotation that says that there is at least one marriage listed with your name and your spouse's name in it. But the forms used for applying for both is the same.

It is a habit of mine to have at least duplicate copies of everything (I have 5 copies of my BC and my marraige certificate) so that I gave NVC my CENOMAR, which they accepted and showed the consular officer my CENMAR which he only took a brief look at then returned to me.

OH...as a rule of thumb, NSO documents expire after 6 months. I guess they can trace that via the barcodes at the bottom of the documents.

Actually, the necessity of a marriage index or CENMAR (CENOMAR to some...same form) has been included in the list of requirements for the interview atr USEM since the first week of November 2008, since document verification has been suspended. I got one ASAP once I learned of this. Got it thru the e-census website and took 5 working days to have it at my doorstep. Your problem now is the looooong Christmas holidays.

My first christmas present from my husband (of course, he was still a-courting then)...5 scented candles, each representing the traits that I have and an inspirational book. When he became my husband (or at least a couple days before that), a white-gold necklace with 6 diamonds on it, a laptop, an HP digicam, and an iPOD classic with mini-speakers and Koss earphones.

Merry Christmas to you too!

Hello guys!

What is the best way to advance my things to Chicago? Airfreight? Sea freight? Is there a door-to-door service from Manila? I have heard of Manila Forwarders...do they do pick-up or do I have to bring it to them?

With the reduced baggage weight limit, I may have to send some of our things in advance. My daughter and i will have 1 luggage and one balikbayan box each.

Thanks for any ideas you might offer. smile.gif

It depends what you want to send. Use a reputable firm like LBC or Forex. Air Freight is fastest, the most reliable, and most expensive. If it all fits in balikbayan boxes, then PAL has good rates if you want to take it all with you it as baggage. Sea freight is the cheapest, especially for heavy and oversized items, but takes the longest, and can be a hassle claiming your stuff at the other end.

That is the best I can offer.

Forex has a branch here in manila?

Am not taking PAL. Going Cathay-UA

Philippinesbalikbayan box arrived opened and items were missing
Hubby used Forex and sent it end of October. Arrived in November intact. He put his own security tape around it (just masking tape with "security tape") written all over...lol. Some had two Panasonic wireless handsets in it too and loads of toys. Was delivered to the house promptly.

PhilippinesMourning after christmas!
Our heartfelt sympathies to you and your entire family in this difficult time. A parent should not have to grieve for his/her child. But the Lord had plans for her and your family and it is not our place to question His ways. Take comfort in that she is in the Lord's garden now, playing with other angels like her. rose.gif rose.gif rose.gif
