Philippinesaaaah the very mysterious VISA PACKET
QUOTE (sasha414 @ Aug 29 2009, 06:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
quick question guys, when i take out my passport from the packet, is it ok to tear off the plastic? i read on the instructions that i should never open the yellow envelope. i tried to open the plastic from the top but it seems like it is so tightly sealed, should i tear it open a bit enough to take out my passport?

Hi!!! finally, huh? smile.gif

go ahead and open the plastic bag, take your passport out. You will need to photocopy (I scanned mine) the Immigrant Data Summary so you can get the CFO sticker affixed on your passport (bring a passport-sized pic, too). Did it come with a note about getting your SSN? If it says for you to wait, hay naku...we did that and it turned out that we had to apply for it at the nearest SS office. So when you get here, apply for it already.

Also, I did not throw the plastic bag away; I used it to protect the visa package. Guard that packet with your life and do not put it in your carry-on. Go ahead and surrender the package to Immigration when you get here (bahala na silang mag-dispose of the plastic bag). cool.gif

You're still in Manila, I presume...have your CFO sticker affixed na while you're there.

Just wanted to update everyone:

Glads got her pp/visa back on her Thursday, went to the seminar on Friday and I just booked and paid for her flight to leave manila at 10:55 PM on Saturday and after a couple of stops, she will arrive in Cincinnati on Sunday 2:22 PM my time! I can't wait to see her again!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif Price of flight was $858 so that wasn't too bad for a weekend price (the price during the weekday was about $25 cheaper).

Congrats, fellow Ohioan!

You're in Cincy? We're from Dayton, say...40 mins away.

yes Cincy smile.gif
There is also several pinays here at the Macy's Headquarters and we are going to be outsourcing to the Ph for some of our call centers, so we have more pinay/pinoy's running around here right now than normal learning from us.

PS Maybe we can meet up next year for the Asian festival in Columbus?

I've come across some Pinoys in Englewood and Kettering. There is a Phil-Am Society here which we are members of but I have yet to attend any of their affairs as most are on weekends and hubby works weekends. We do go to Cincy to get some "goodies" at Jungle Jim's...the only place I've been able to get black Ilocano vinegar for making "longganisa" (local Ilocano sausage), among other things.

Can't commit to the Asian festival...will be busy with the new baby smile.gif We'll see...

PhilippinesPreparing the papers for Interview
QUOTE (JANETandLYLE @ Sep 28 2009, 06:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Ok I'm assembling the papers now for the interview. Any need to be originals? None need notorized or certified, correct? I thought I was to send copies and always keep originals in case they wanted to check or confirm. I'm sending original birth certificates for both of us, but what else needs to be originals? I'm also sending three years of back taxes (copies of my returns) to cover us. Do the tax returns need to be certified by my accountant? Everything else ill sort and send updated intent to marry letters for us both. I'm replacing the previous ones with updated intent to marry letters. Other than that, i'm including a few logs of chat, phone calls, monies I have sent over time, cards and letters, etc about two per month since 2004. Have I missed anything? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

how about photos together and with family members? they always ask for photos at the pre-interview. don't forget your CENOMAR...although i've forgotten if you need that for a K1. You can present photocopies as long as you present the originals too.

She will want to go get her CFO sticker on the her passport the soonest after she gets her visa packet...can't leave without it.

QUOTE (LÜvtechwifey @ Oct 2 2009, 10:10 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
To those who would like to acquire Cenomar, Please be informed that it will take 2 weeks before you can have the certificate.

To my surprise, I was like, uh? 2 weeks?... blink.gif I kinda have to have it on my interview.
I just hope that the consul wouldn't be asking that from me.

I requested for CEMAR online on the ecensus site. see how long it would take. It was faster...i think about 5 working days was what it took but I think that is the fastest.

During my interview, I was not asked for the CEMAR; the CO said that he had a copy of my CENOMAR anyway. I presented it just the same and he just took a brief look at it and gave it back to me. .

Good luck, Cath! good.gif

BTW...you fill up the same form as CENOMAR. The document you will receive will tell you that you have at least 1 marriage to (your hubby).

Hope this would give others some idea how to organize and prepare your docus. smile.gif
There is a a small opening space at the lower portion of the glass between you and the consul where you can give the docs if the consul ask something from you, these clear book folders I used can easily be rolled up so I can just give the whole folder to him if s/he needs something.

Colorful folders for each set of docs

For another type of docs, I used stick-ons paper to title/label the outside page of the clearbook. (e.g. Wedding Pictures, Call logs, emails, etc.) And I also write captions for each photo.)

Lets see how much I have. tongue.gif

PhilippinesIntroducing Our Partners/SO
Hubby was born in Mobile, Ala., grew up moving around the US (AZ, MS, CO, LA, among others) but considers his home to be in Thibodaux, LA. Currently living in OH. He is a nurse (I am a doc), loves his pasta (like I do), knows how to cook (does the cooking on his off-days), loves his LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. Very sweet and thoughtful, puts me and our daughter ahead of everything else. Wonderful father-figure to my 6-year-old, they are best buds. Considers himself a Southern boy, grew up in a family-oriented family (as I did, hence our same family values), keeping in touch with his mother and grandfather often. Would love to be able to fish/hunt again someday whistling.gif Served as a medic in the Army and is a veteran of Desert Storm, honorably discharged after 4 years. That short stint influenced him a lot and helped build his character. Isn't exactly an optimist, always thinks of worst-case scenario, but isn't a pessimist either. A realist, maybe. Current pet peeve is the next-door neighbor who seems to insist on a private parking spot on a public parking area in front of the house, not minding my huge pregnant belly mad.gif

Bring your CFO certificate and (I think) 2 pcs (or is it 3?) of a passport-sized pic, and your passport with the visa in it, of course. You will be filling out some forms which will include your alien number (Perhaps the red number on your visa in your passport? I forgot na biggrin.gif ).

Then, start packing! You'll be here by Thanksgiving, right?

See you in LA (perhaps in the summer)!!! smile.gif

PhilippinesWhen to buy Airline tickets?
I had my interview in December. We pretty much knew with our short timeline and more than complete paperwork that we wouldn't have any problem at the interview, but we did not plan on getting tickets till after the interview. Nor did we have any intention of flying out soon after the interview as we wanted to spend that last christmas holiday with my family. My husband and I researched the possibility of him getting a roundtrip ticket and us getting one-way tickets taht would coincide with his return ticket. It was very tricky, not to mention really hard to do that. Plus, it was really expensive. We looked at trips for April (after my daughter finished the schoolyear, which we thought was a more practical thing to do rather than have her start school here midway thru the US schoolyear when she was practically done with the Philippine schoolyear). The cheapest flight we could find would cost us almost $4000...and that being my daughter only had to pay 75% of her fare. My first time to travel outside the Philippines with a child in tow...wasn't hard, really. So, we opted for him to cancel his flight and just put myself and my daughter on a flight to the US.

Think about the (almost slim) possiblity of getting the same flight as your return flight...and the cost.

PhilippinesIf the Visa Interview is the first week of December?
QUOTE (DaleandPat @ Oct 11 2009, 01:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My fiancee is having the sputum test done now and is to call the SLEC on December 2nd. This will probably be to make a time for the medical report out of the sputum test, which is believed to be negative. Her instructions said she would then have the visa interview within 2 or 3 days, which may be sometime between December 7th thru 11th. Now then another week will be needed on the average to get the visa in hand. By this time half of December will be gone. It may be hard to make reservations for air flight to Iowa by this time.

Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated. A Delta Airlines representative recommended to talk to a travel agency to see if they may have blocks of flights that could be adjusted if reservations are made ahead of time.

Dale

Best way to go, I suppose, is to just wait till December is over. Even now, it's hard to get a decent ticket price, and you cant get a ticket anyway till you know the result of the sputum test, at which time most if not all tickets are gone. Besides, why not let her spend a last holiday with her family? And she won't get shocked at the sudden change of temps, too! smile.gif

First thing I did when I got here was work on our SSN's. Started accustomizing to driving here then got my driver's license soon after getting my SSN. Went to visit my uncle and his family up north as I have not seen them in a few years. When we came back, we discovered that i was pregnant which we very much welcome as we had been trying to have a child for the last 2 years. Paid a visit to Chicago relatives shortly before school started. Right now, am busy being a mom to our 6-year-old and keeping house while reviewing for the medical boards and preparing for our soon-to-be-born daughter.

Will be my first thanksgiving. Hubby is working till 7am Thanksgiving morning. You are in Indianapolis, If you can handle about a 90 minute drive to Cincinnati, I would suggest:

http://www.junglejim...ional/asian.asp

My wife loves this place and they have a nice selection of foods from the Phillippines.... Fruits, Vegetables, sauces, pancit and all kinds of things. It takes me two hours to pull my wife out of there.

Maybe it's time to take a trip, hehehehe, they have balut there too.. *ugh she tricked me into eating some the other day too, the second bite had me gagging!!

Am out of bottled "saging na saba" in syrup, down to half a pack of "turon" (banana fritters), and only one pack of pancit noodles left...and one box of champorado left. Am delivering in 4 weeks...perhaps a trip down the Cincy should be in order. And soon! biggrin.gif

Apply for your SSN. Learn to drive if you haven't learned yet. If you were driving in the Phils, your license is valid for at least a month. I live in OH and I was told I could drive with my Phil license as long as it wasn't expired. But I applied for my US license anyway so that at least I have a valid ID.

Also, start building your credit standing smile.gif

Our case has not been touched since the first time back in June 6th, for the I130, and June 26 for the I129f..nothing, no status change, no updates, no info, nothing...until your past 5 months there is nothing anyone will tell you...this system is broken...over 2 million applications a year, they need HELP!...we are taking the legal route yet we must wait in LIMBO, with nobody telling us anything, as people walk across our borders...this is so frustrating,
God, how I miss my wife...
Why can nothing be done? Don't we as fee payers and tax payers pay these people salary? does congrees work for us?
Oh, how frustrating and heartbreaking is this process...grown men brought to tears...
M and M

You may check out our timeline...it's real. Filed I-130 at the end of July and we were approved in 21 days. I don't know how they do it. My husband did send as much proof of our relationship as he could (my visa package was more than an inch thick lol) and we never got an RFE. Nor did we expedite our case. Got my visa in less than 5 months. I guess it depends on the kind of person who gets to adjudicate your case at USCIS.

But hang in there...some have waited even longer. It'll happen when it'll happen. Meantime, get the next documents you will need once you get your approval. And keep your relationship strong. The process will definitely try you and your wife's relationship; do not, at all costs, let it be affected.

Good luck to you smile.gif

It depends on where you live, really. If you live in Manila, you'd get it in 2 days; the farther you are, the longer it takes...even if it is Air 21. PhilippinesKWENTO KWENTO TIME!!!!!!!!
Geez...what a question to ask a pregnant woman...

Overall, I am quite happy with how things have turned out for my husband and myself, and my daughter. So far, everything we had planned from the very start of our relationship up to our marriage and up to now have been fulfilled. We both think we had planned out our life well, although we know that anything can just come up unexpected....just like our soon-to-be-born daughter...unexpected but wanted smile.gif Adoption proceedings for my daughter are underway and we are just so excited to finally affix my husband's name to hers, hopefully early next year. We've gone through some really tough trials the past few months, but we have made it through our faith in God and in each other. Those trials have done nothing but strengthen our bond of marriage and of our family as well. I find myself still mesmerized with the fact that we are finally one complete and happy family living under one roof. Everytime I look at my husband and I find myself falling in love with him all over again, still amazed that this is the man God gave me to love and be loved by. Watching him and my daughter interact warms my heart, as if he has always been there all her life. He has been a good father to her, just as I knew all along.

Of course, there are times when I wish I could see the family I left in the Philippines. I wish I could show my mother her newest grandbaby. I wish my father were still here. Christmas has always been the official family reunion which would be done in the home I grew up in. I can picture it now, the table laden end to end with food, the 7.5 foot tree, richly decorated and bedecked with presents up to 3 feet from the lowest tier, my relatives chattering about with each other about this and that (with the occasional reprimand of one or any of the kids). My brother would be home from Singapore, as he has always done, bearing all sorts of items from his travels to Europe. Last Christmas was the last time I saw him. I will miss the festivities this year, but I am looking forward to spending Christmas in my own home with my own li'l family for the first time. Besides...the phone is there for me to call and join in somehow...add Skype to that, too! star_smile.gif

Our baby will make her debut in 16 days. So I will be distracted somewhat from these musings, doing all the necessary last-minute preparations before she arrives. I am anxiously excited about her arrival...more than Christmas, actually. I can't wait smile.gif
