The question about race, can I leave it empty? Im Hispanic but in the race question they just have white, black, pacific islander, Asian, Amerindian. I don't consider myself either black or white.. Much less Asian or the other options..

US Citizenship General DiscussionDo interview times matter?

About four years and longer ago, was taking 18-24 months for processing the N-400, really got bad right before the USCIS decided to more than double the fees.

Have to contribute that to our poor economic conditions, ha, even know of illegals going back to find work. Some of my wife's friends returned to their home countries after being naturalized, working their butts off here paying exorbitant FICA, property, sales, and income taxes plus having a huge chunk of what's left for health insurance costs. Just working for the government. One did come back, with the Euro problems in Spain, even worse.

What, ours streets are not paved with gold? Potholes is more like it with gasoline taxes eleven times higher when this once great country could built an entire interstate system for a nickela gallon. Now can't even fill up a pothole.

The situation worldwide is really bad. I won't move to Spain is not that good the situation over there. I know many ppl that are leaving Spain and going back to their country (part of my family include) "el horno no esta para galletitas". And here is not any better.. Since I got here I haven't been able to find a decent job.. Just temporary stuff.. Thank God my hubby has a good job.

US Citizenship General DiscussionDo interview times matter?

If you can't do it on the day you are scheduled, you can always try to do a walk in. If you have a copy of the biometrics letter, just walk in and try to have it on a day when you can go. Sometimes the rescheduling can take months.

To the OP:

I think the appointment time only matters to the offices where they have same day oath coz if you have a morning interview and pass, most likely your oath will be in the afternoon on the same day.

. I sent it yesterday.. I hope it doesn't take months..

They just opened a new USCIS field office in Queens in LIC so this is in addition to the Federal Plaza.

Oh cool. Thanks for the Info :)

US Citizenship General DiscussionDo interview times matter?

I know I'm probably just thinking too hard but are interviews scheduled in any particular way during the day? Like the more difficult cases early in the morning or later in the day?

Also, is there a chance you'd get the Oath Letter the same day if you have the interview in the morning? I've got an 8:10am interview at Federal Plaza and just curious. NY seems to go either way with its IOs, some are nice and some just plain hostile it seems.

Where in NY do u live? I just sent back my biometric letter to reschedule cuz I can't go next week. I live in Astoria and according to the letter I had to go somewhere in long island city for the fingerprints.. By the way everything is going really fast..

US Citizenship General DiscussionIRS transcripts

Standard procedure. Form letter. Bring the orignals AND another copy. They may or may not ask for them.

As far as transcripts, if you have a fax machine (or access to one such as a Kinko's) then just call them while you are at the fax machine and they will fax them to you instantly. Otherwise you should get them in the mail within a few days.

Okay thank you!

US Citizenship General DiscussionPre-Interview Case File Review?!?

Hello Alaskan,

Now I am placed in line for an interview as of yesterday, the 14th. Next step is to wait for the actual letter about the interview specifics like date and time.

Could you please let me know when you get your oficial letter? The reason I am asking is to see the timeframe between online notice and actual letter date. Given that you were noticed on the 6th (if I am not mistaken).

Thanks

Oki no prob. Maybe you will get before me. Because I'm in NY and here it looks like takes longer than other states..

In general, USCIS is outsourcing the biometrics to contractors. So you might have seen them in passive mode :)

The interviews are conducted by USCIS officers. So I suspect that your local USCIS office is really backed up. I know the wait can be really tough since I had two main obstacles and long wait periods during my Green Card process. Hang in there; at the end it will work out.

Thank u :)

Might be that your local USCIS office is overwhelmed with interview schedules. Give them a week or two and if you do not hear anything give them a call.

I wonder if the office where I did the fingerprint is the same one where I'm going to be interview?.. Because if that's the case, the day I went for my fingerprint I notice there was a bunch of employees sitting in the waiting room doing nothing..

My interview letter said the same. But the actual interview took about 10-15 minutes, plus another 30-40 minutes before the interview to get through security, to sign up at the window, and to wait for my name to be called.
Probably they put those words about 2 hours just in case, so you won't complain if you have to spend in the building up to two hours?

Thanks :)I was thinking it was just going to be like half hour. I won't :P

US Citizenship General DiscussionEvidence of bonafide marriage for N-400?

Can't take this very lightly, some IO's carry this marriage thing to the nth degree, wife's IO was that way, even though I was sitting in the waiting room. While not necessary to send copies of all this documentation in, good idea to do so, and definitely bring it with you. Would save you another trip, but if you don't send it in initially, may tee off your IO because they will have to make copies of it.

Sure want proof your spouse is a US citizen, your marriage certificate, and if either of you had a previous marriage proof that your were free to marry again with all court divorce papers. Then residency requirements by bringing in all of your passports covering the last three years.

Also make a big deal about where you live, are both of your names on your home lease or deed? Read back as to how many had problems with not having a joint deed or lease. If you child was born here, normally not a problem, but if born abroad, may want DNA proof that child is the offspring of the US citizen spouse.

It can go easy, or though, all depends on what side of bed your IO got up that morning, better to be overly prepared, or will experience delays and more trips.

My name it's not on the lease.. So it's that a problem?
