OUR CHECK WAS CASHED ALREADY!!! WOOHOOO!!! dancin5hr.gif and my big bear received the USPS returned receipt also... i was just wondering why usps online tracking said our file was delivered Jan. 31 while the returned receipt had Feb. 1 as received date stamped on it?

BTW guys, this will probably sound like a very stupid question but how did you get your canceled check with receipt number back? unsure.gif
I think for most on this board they looked up their canceled check online. On the back where the service center endorses your check should be a case number with letters & numbers.

Thanks, i'll surely pass this info to SO later.

I wish the CSC was at the same avg wait from NOA1 to approval as VSC.

Given the recent approvals from CSC, i think they are gradually getting their act together. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there several september filers and 1 or 2 CSC october filers who got approved already?

Seriously, reading the posts of all those in the process and who are just getting their approvals is very inspirational. This is a great community. Best of luck to all January filers - I hope we are all 90 day wonders. kicking.gif

We don't know each other but going through the same process, it is easier to empathize with each other like best friends. yes.gif I'd be very very very happy if I'd get approved really really fast but I'd honestly be happier if I would see all January filers get approved without a glitch as just as fast! (NO JANUARY FILER LEFT BEHIND!).... now, i would be happiest if I could see all those whose been waiting way back in june or earlier get approved very soon also, they deserved it. We've been in the process in only a couple of weeks and it is already frustrating.. how much more to those whose been waiting for like eternity already. ClockWatch2.gif protest6wz.gif

i guess there are just 1 or 2 of us left for january filers that have not received NOA1, there is no sign also that they have cashed our cheque yet. sad.gif

checking your signature timelines, it seems to me that CSC moves faster in cashing cheques than VSC and even faster in handing out NOA1s.

Oh, VSC cash our cheque now and send us our NOA1. I'm itching to create our account on uscis case status service online.

I guess more and more of us here are becoming more OC as days go by laughing.gif

Don't I know it...I keep checking my bank online to see if the check has been cashed (last count was 5 times today)...

Dawn

You were only one day ahead of us in filing and we are also with the same service center: VSC! yes.gif ... i guess you are already including us in your checking, i would assume, we wont get cashed unless they cashed in your check and we won't get NOA1 unless you have received your NOA1 also smile.gif

Hope we do get that NOA1 soonest... and hope NOA2 won't be so far ahead also.

At least you'd be seeing your guy next month, with or without NOA1&2. Lucky you!.. Me, i won't be seeing my man till after my interview (he'll be coming here to pick us up--i refused to go to the US unless he comes here to get us) and i still don't know when that would be. I just miss him so bad! the shirt he left has lost his smell already. crying.gif ... yes, im using the shirt he wore on our last day together as my pillow case so i could still smell him and pretend to be hugging him at night heart.gif . I guess we're the last one to jump in for January... there's not even update on usps online tracking so, I would assume our application has not reach VSC yet:(... but I'm letting God take full control of everything.

As for evidence... ours was a bit overkill whistling.gif : passport stamps, boarding passes, airline tickets, hotel receipts, 30+ photos, couple of emails, chat logs, pages of our wedding website, pages of our photosharing site, receipt, delivery notification and photo of our personalized guest signature platter, my authenticated birth certificate, birth certificate of my kids, certificate of no marriage from our national statistics office, his divorce decrees, his birth certificate, and truck loads of prayers.

Some of it are not really required but we just put it in.

Good luck too all smile.gif
If they receive it tomorrow you'll only be on the Feb filer list once every 4 years laughing.gif

This gets talked about a lot - who's in what month. Igor's list uses the mailing date as being the most consistently accurate. The NOA1 date that people enter seems to have a lot of inconsistencies - not with the date on the NOA1, just the number people enter. Go wherever you feel more comfortable - better yet, be active in both, there's lots of good people here. Congrats on getting it all together. Now you get to sit back and relax for a bit.
Agreed -- I filed at the end of January, but my NOA1 was February, so I kind of hang out in both the January & February threads smile.gif

Anyhow ... Welcome and here's to a speedy NOA2 smile.gif

Based on NOA1 and the received date, I think I would also need to be active in the February filers thread. I hope everybody is hanging on tight... February filers day is coming. Next week would be march already, who knows we will be seeing february approvals then. good.gif

So I went to apply for my SSN today and was told that as a K-1 holder I can't have my SSN in my married name! Boo!

That is basically what I was afraid of.. a while back I already stated that it might be one of the reasons why they give some of us a hard time, because of the changed name and the changed name isn't the same as the one in the computers... It doesn't make any sense but I do think it is one of the reasons...It is also why I seriously think people should apply for their SSN before they marry.. changing your name afterward is free anyways.

i never got my SSN, first the smithfield (the far away county) office told me i can't get SSN since i already married my petitioner and thus became a K3 wacko.gif headbonk.gif ... then we went to the big city and they accepted my application but when they requested verification of my status from immigration my admission status did not match, apparently the immigration officer at my POE forgot to type "K1" on the admission status box and now i can't get the SSN since I-94 has long since expired and I now have to wait till i get EAD. sad.gif ... but i am hoping it will be soon.

I'm glad you guys could work it out... would be sad if you guys didn't (and a big loss of time with all that stressful waiting :S ).

Christian counseling and loads of prayers did help us get through it and it did make our bond stronger.

I was glad we did not have enough money for return tickets that time or else I would have packed my stuffs, dragged my kids and was probably back in the Philippines by now... because we did not have enough money for plane fare, I was forced to give Ricky another chance and I am sure glad I did give him another chance, he has been the most wonderful husband so far. blush.gif

Our wedding plans had been adjusted several times: the date, location, etc... when I got here, I even almost called it completely off but we were able to work our problems out, set a final wedding date, and had a beautiful wedding with only 3 weeks preparation. As Rachel said, try planning the wedding 10-11 months from date of filing or you could plan to have a civil wedding first and then plan a grander wedding when you are all settled... the most important thing is not the wedding, that is only one day, but the relationship and the love you and your partner share and will share for (hopefully) a lifetime.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Rachel, my heart goes out to you as well. rose.gif ... I hope alex and his dad will be able to find work soon, the economy is really bad now and going through immigration with the expenses needed don't help at all but you are right, you will be able to get through this.... WE will all get through this! good.gif

Same time last year, we were still starting the process and drawing courage and strength in the hope of being with our love ones soon.... now, majority of us are married and are with our love ones, BROKE but at least we are with our love ones... Ricky and I, have encountered financial challenges one after another since we got here and we just finally saved up enough to submit AOS tomorrow (a good $2210 + other AOS related expenses crying.gif ). Me and the kids have been out of status since December 3rd. They said it is ok and I don't have to worry since there is no time limit in filing AOS and I won't have problem even if it will take us longer to file but I just couldn't risk my kids not having legal presence here any longer so Ricky and I had to tighten our already tight belt just to save more for AOS. (I read about Valsu's case in effects of family subforum... it may or may not be true but still...)

I believe things will eventually get better and same time next year, we will all recall how we all struggled financially at the start of our marriage and while still going through AOS... this may be trying times for majority of us but this will draw us closer to our spouses. It will be good to someday look back to this hard times and just smile... We will all pull through coz this too shall pass...

I am glad January '08 CSC filers thread is still alive, most of the VSC people have probably finished with the whole AOS process save for StephnRia who have just gotten her visa after a long, troublesome visa journey; HerolMounia who just had her visa interview last month (they were the last VSC filer to be approved, november 08); and one VSC filer who sadly had to go back to her home country a month after her wedding sad.gif

I guess we all struggled in different ways, most of us financially, some emotionally, some had to give up the relationship they have fought for... Every now and then, when I feel homesickness hitting hard; when our financial situation gets to tight and the bills just make me want to gobble up a bottle of pain medicine; when individual differences causes the "li'l discussion" and make me want to question why I am here and why I have even gotten married at all when I had been ok being a single mom for 8 long years, I simply had to think about all the others whose visa journey has come to a painful end and I just thank God that no matter how hard the going gets for me and ricky, at least we are still together and still holding on, learning about each other, making adjustments for our individual differences, and loving each other more and more each day... and I guess that is more than enough to be truly thankful for.

I will borrow Blakes line: Let's give our spouses an extra hug tonight, let us cherish each moment we have with them. ((((HUGS))) to all of you.

Thank you so much, all of you guys. This has been very confusing and very difficult. I don't know what has happened and can only really speculate at this point. There is not much I can do but wait for some answer some day. Olga is not "flighty" or capricious, nor have I ever seen any action at all on her part that would lead me to think she is in any way manipulative. So a disapearance is bizarre and not like her. The fact is that she lives with her father and he is not at the apartment either, and hasn't been for weeks now.

I have more questions than answers, I do not understand anything. The children start school tomorrow in the Ukraine and if no one is at the apartment then I cannot help to think that she is gone and not coming back. But I don't know anything, like I said.

We all started this journey a year ago, and at no step of the way was this easy. I am so happy that everyone has been successful in at least getting together. My journey still has a ways to go, I'm thinking, and although I'm not sure how it is going to end, I know I'll keep moving. You give your spouses an extra hug tonight, cherish each of your moments. Love you all.

Blake

oh Blake, my heart goes out to you... if I could only extend my arms to give you a warm supportive hug rose.gif . I pray that someday soon, you will get all your answers, please do stay strong. (((HUGS)))

I'm mostly concerned about wedding plans and finances at the moment. All of the money I've saved up from my job these past two months won't fully cover Alex's credit cards, and of the $500 we have spare each month $266 is eaten up immediately by bills, leaving less than $250 for gas and food. wacko.gif Argh, I don't mean to rant, but Alex doesn't even have all the AOS money yet, which is really bothering me. I should've booked my flight for December...

Don't worry about sounding whinny, we have all been there... as cecille have said, even if you saved up enough somehow it disappears quickly when you get here... when me and the kids got here, we just had all sorts of problems that had quickly eaten up whatever savings we had... plumbing problems, washing machine retiring(R.I.P.), problems with truck, etc... we didn't even know if we would have enough to push through with a wedding but we did manage to get through it.... AOS is another issue since for us we would be needing $2,210, plus other little extra AOS related expenses which could easily add up since it is always times 3 for us... our I-94 will be expiring by Dec. 3.. right now we are still $1000+ short for AOS fees., but I am still positive we will have enough to file AOS before Dec. 3.. Everything will be ok.. and same with you, before you know it, you have gone through the wedding and the AOS in a breeze.

With all the stress all these immigration expenses give us, me and Ricky just tell each other that same time next year, we will look back and smile and wonder how we pulled it through. Finances will be tight for us who go through immigration but we can all do it... and You and Alex can certainly pull it through good.gif good.gif good.gif

waow! dbears I just read your story at the SSA! It was quite a journey! I'm glad that it worked out at the end! wink.gif But, at your place, I would go back to see the first lady you talked to, showing the paper that state you will receive your SSN.... Maybe she still won't believe you, and say that you are illegal! biggrin.gif

i am tempted to do just that and also give her a copy of it plus a copy of all those SSA documents I have and tell her to study and learn! but she probably would say I am on the suspect list now, the same way she claimed the other K1's who got married and still got SSN are on "suspect list". well, i just hope she thoroughly reads that "supposedly inaccessible" to public SSA document (which you can easily access through a link provided in the vj SSN guide)

QUOTE (JeroenAndMichelle @ Nov 12 2008, 05:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
About all those SSN's going so badly... I've been thinking and I could be wrong here but as far as I have seen does this thing only go wrong at people who already got married and already changed their names (if not all of them, then at least most of them).

Big busy SSA offices probably knows how to handle different cases best since they probably encounter more K1s through their office.. but as for the smaller ones like in our county, they are not used to it so when the system was acting crazy or was requiring more info/document etc for change of name & civil status, they had no idea how to handle it or they are too lazy to know how to handle it so they just dismiss the applicant with claims that "IT CAN'T BE DONE".

After all has been said and done, if I had to do it all over again, I would go and get SSN before getting married and just change name after marriage or after I get my green card. Probably less hassle even with smaller middle of nowhere county SSA offices.

Wishing everyone a good day. (((BIG HUGS)))

The same as Cécile here. I've been to the SSA 4 times before they finally say I'm eligible, and to pu my married name on the card. They are just not use to K1 visa holder I guess. Just gather as many proof as you can to explain them you can get your SSN card. Good Luck!
And Congratulation on your wedding! happy.gif

Thank you for the Congrats. smile.gif
Maybe the smaller SSA office are just not familiar with K1s or any immigrant for that matter, it was all sorted out in the end, had to travel an hour to Raleigh coz even with enough proof our visit in Smithfield SSA office was still a mess... if I will encounter problem with state ID or driver's license later, I will probably just go to Raleigh, the big city again.

Congratulations on getting married, dbears! Your photos are beautiful and that cake looks yummy indeed! Mm!

I'm just organising shipping this week. It's costing £350 to ship all of my belongings (12 boxes), which I didn't think was too bad at all! I also bought a new, big, purple suitcase to take with me to the US. smile.gif

Thank you for the congrats Rachel. My mother in law baked the cake for us, it is Ricky's favorite cake and actually always been a favorite in Ricky's family gathering. So since we didn't have enough budget for a fancy gorgeous looking (oftentimes awfully tasting) wedding cake we figured it will be best to have the BESTEST tasting cake as wedding cake.

Have a happy trip and happy reunion next week... I am sure your family is feeling sad now that you are leaving. enjoy every moment you have with them and enjoy your remaining days in England to the fullest. good.gif

I share the same sentiments for Blake, i have not read the whole thing but I have read a few back post about Blake and Olga's situation. i sure hope you will be able to have your family together soon. rose.gif

dbears, I just posted in the VSC thread (I didn't see that you posted here too), unless I am not aware of something, if you apply for EAD at the same time as AOS, there is no additional fee, you just pay the $1010 for AOS and that's all.

As for the SSN, you are eligible. Apparently it really depends on who you talk to at the social security office. When I went there, they were not sure I could receive an SSN because I was already married and therefore my name would not match the name on my immigration file, but they sent the request anyway and a few weeks later I received my SSN, in my married name (I had other problems, my I-94 didn't match my name in the SSA system, but apparently they figured it out correctly in the end).
You should ask in the "Working & Traveling prior to getting a Green Card" forum if you haven't done it already. There was several documents there that showed that K1 visa holders who got married could receive an SSN. I had printed them and brought them with me at the office just in case, maybe you should do that. In my case though, they didn't ask to see them.

Good luck with those steps smile.gif It sure isn't easy but in the end everything will work out right.

I posted the question in the said forum yesterday and got good answers and yes, i did print out every proof i could get but the lady in smithfield office just wouldn't hear of it, she even insinuated that we got the papers illegally and also said K1's who got married and still got SSN was on the suspect list, it was a mess headbonk.gif . so we ended up going to raleigh office and everything was ok except for the fact that there might not be enough time to verify the authenticity of my documents since my I-94 will be expiring soon but at least they accepted my application and said they will try to send me my SSN before my I-94 expires, no gurantee but at least they will try. here's the complete story of the mess we experienced with SSA lady in smithfield (http://www.visajourn...h...t&p=2381544)

I also just read the part of the bundle package in AOS fee... do you think it also applies for kids? my kids will only need to pay $600 each since they will be applying together with me, I would also want them to apply for AP and EAD if they could apply without additional fee. EAD is needed for them to get SSN and it will be nice if they could get SSN the soonest also.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Hello everyone, I have surely missed all the great happenings here but I am glad everyone seems to be moving pretty fine even with few glitches here and there. CONGRATS on all the weddings and all the other happy reunions.

I may have been a VSC filer but January CSC has been my second home here on VJ. Just an update on us, arrived here in Johnston county, NC on Sept. 4, got married Oct. 18 in a small and private church wedding. My step-daughter did my hair, I made my own bouquet and also did my own make up. The wedding was very simple but it was beautiful, my mother-in-law said there was no dry eye when we exchanged our personalized vows especially when we gave our vows to our kids. It was not what I visualized our wedding would be but it had been more special and memorable than I expected it to be even without the glitz and glams of a fancy wedding.

On other note, we tried applying for SSN last week and was told that I am not eligible to get SSN since I already got married and therefore the K1 visa SSN eligibility don't apply to me anymore. The lady we talked to said we either need to do the whole process so I could get a K3 visa (which absolutely don't make any sense to me) since I am a spouse of the US citizen now and not a fiancee or we could apply for EAD for me and also for the kids. She was telling us all this probably not knowing that EAD cost $300+ to get. Anyweiz, we will try to go back to SSN office this week and try our luck in getting the SSN again.

since Ricky don't check vj unless i ask him to, I guess it is ok to share my wedding veil and dress here. Posted these pics on january vsc thread but since I consider mysel an honorary january csc member, I'll also have to post pics here for those interested, just click the pics for larger view:

I will be buying some more swarovski crystals before I leave and will be sewing it to the dress a week or a few days before the wedding. I love how the crystals reflect different colors under the light.... the dress is not entirely how I wanted it to be but I still love it... I love trying it on again and again. blush.gif i still need to find ways to be creative with my veil though coz I wanted it to be only fingertip in length but the seamstress made a floor length one wacko.gif .. i also told her not to put any train on the dress but she still added a little train on it.. now, I don't have time to have it redone, I only have one week left. headbonk.gif

Hi Jeroen, Michele is a US born Filipina right? she may not be familiar with traditional filipino formal dress and attire for men but I bet her parents are still very much familiar with it... I just want to share with you what Ricky will be wearing on our wedding.. our wedding will be a fusion of Filipino and American traditions... this is called Barong Tagalog, our national costume for men. The first pic is Ricky's barong, the second one for his best man, and then the 3rd is for my son who will be walking with me to the altar (I had all 3 made here-got it last week). then the last pic is how the barong will look like when actually worn (that's not my Ricky though, just a pic I grabbed on the net). smile.gif
