USCIS Service CentersVSC has BED BUGS!!!

Damn it, I hope this doesn't cause too much of a delay in my/everyones processes. They need to get on top of that, fast. I ended up getting bed bugs in my home once, they are so crafty. You really have to cover ALL your bases when trying to eradicate them, and eradication is the only way.

Just talking about them makes my skin crawl again. Urgh! :S

United KingdomLondon Medical - Knightsbridge Doctors

I had my medical today at 9:30 and overall it was a breeze. I expected the clinic to be in a different sort of building but then with a name like Bentinck Mansions, it made sense. I strolled in and filled out the extra bit of paperwork they ask you to do and then sat in the waiting room for about 5 minutes.

I was then called for my x-ray by a nice lady, it was a simple and quick job. When the x-ray was coming through on the screen I saw she looked a little puzzled or curious, which suddenly put me on edge. As the picture finished loading up on the screen she dismissed that look and I relaxed, apparently I have fairly long lungs, which she said was nothing bad and merely a passing observation. After that it was back to the waiting room to see the doctor.

After about another 5 minutes the doctor called me in, I forget her name (because I'm terrible with names first time) but she was a nice, I'm guessing, European woman with blonde hair. She went over the vaccination records and asked me questions from the questionnaire as she jotted a few things down and then took my height and weight and had me take an eye test, I did pretty well except for one letter I mistook on each single eye test lol. I then sat down on the bed and she checked my eyes, ears and throat and took my blood pressure. I was a little worried at first as I'd had a coffee not long before I went into the clinic and I could feel the caffeine coursing through me, but that was all fine too. Finally, she took a blood sample.

Then came the strip down, laying on the bed she checked my breathing, had a poke around my neck and abdomen and checked my reflexes. Followed by sitting up to check my breathing on my back and then finished by checking my "bag of plums". At the end she said everything was fine and that the only point she brought up was my weight, but that wasn't made into a big deal or anything, it's something I'm working on but she said I seemed to be in good enough health considering. All in all it was a quick, painless examination.

After all that, I went back to the waiting room for a couple of minutes until I was called back to the reception desk to collect my paperworks and pay for the medical. £235 since I didn't need any additional tests or vaccinations (thanks to a kind nurse at my local doctors clinic who gave me the one I was missing for free. - it always pays to ask!) I was told my results would be with the embassy by Wednesday and with that, I departed and had a stroll around London (and Hamleys, which was not far away lol) before getting on the train back home.

Overall it was hardly a big deal at all. It was all handled very efficiently and professionally. There were a number of people that had turned up in the waiting room this morning during the few times I was in there, some older, some younger. I wondered if any of them were from this forum haha. Now that it is done with, now begins the wait for the embassy interview date! Almost done now! (With this stage anyway)

United KingdomShould I learn to drive before I go or after?!
Lots of information has been posted for you here so be sure to check it out. In short, it would not be worth paying out the money for lessons and tests in the UK, it is expensive and difficult and your money would be put to better use in the US.

If you have already had lessons in the UK then that is a plus, you'll know how to drive/control a car to a certain degree. You will have to unlearn a number of the UK's rules of the roads anyhow for when you drive in the US and learn their rules and laws. Any free driving lessons you can get from a friend or family would be useful too if you haven't paid out to a driving instructor. (please be careful/responsible about that though)

United KingdomWhat do you miss most about the UK?

Can I just add that as someone moving to the Bay Area but currently sitting in Watford listening to the rain hammer down as we start our <cough> summer I really won't miss the weather. Yes I will miss the sunny spring days in the UK and yes I know all about the rain and fog in SF during the  <cough> winter.

Haha no way, another Watford-ite? Same here! I'm hoping to get out to the US by the end of the year. I won't miss this weather either.

I say I'll miss the NHS, but the service I have experienced from them when I had previously been quite unwell really paled in comparrison to when I had to use a hospital in the US.

One thing I and my fiancee miss are Heinz baked beans. I converted her to becoming a fan of beans on toast, something that was apparently unheard of over there lol Though its hard to find beans in tomato sauce in her area and their flavours just arent the same as UK Heinz beans.

United Kingdomhow long will it take to receive packet 3 in the mail?

Hi - once you have a case number, you can use this tracking site - just put your number in and it will tell you the current status and the last time there was an update;

https://ceac.state.g...ker/Status.aspx

I take it this is for a tracking number I get from NVC?

How and where are you guys able to track your cases once NOA2 has been and things get sent to NVC and your local embassy? We got our NOA2 at the end of July byt we haven't had any mail or alerts for Packet 3 or anything...

United KingdomDS-156 Issue?

Bah, of all the places to find it. Thanks for that!

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-08-17 06:58:00
United KingdomDS-156 Issue?

So I went to fill out the online DS-156 form today and I can't even get started with it as when I choose to select the country issue of my passport, my country isn't in the list. No England, Britain or United Kingdom at all.

It says I need 2 copies of this form as part of my Packet 3 bundle, as requested by the letter/instructions. This is confusing, what am I meant to do here exactly?

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-08-17 06:29:00
United KingdomI could kick myself... DS forms!

No don't do the above quoted part for London. London will assign your interview by sending a letter when you have 3 things in to them.
1. Four application forms (some in duplicate)
2. Medical results
3. DS-2001 Readiness for Interview form

You do not pick your own appointment or get a confirmation page. It happens after you follow their London procedure, not DOS. Each consulate has their own local way to do it.

Yeah, I've got that down. I'm just waiting on my birth certificate, police record check and my fiancées I-134 paperworks to get here then I can send off those forms.

I found this thread which sounds similar to what you have done: http://www.visajourn...160-and-ds-156/

I realise it's a different country and will be different procedures, but if I were you I'd double check with someone on Monday that it won't affect you.

I will still be calling NVC to clarify with them too on Monday.

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-08-17 11:28:00
United KingdomI could kick myself... DS forms!

Thanks for your posts Nich-Nick and Leon&Mylen.

It was literally down to clicking the wrong link on the list of forms on the DOS website and following the whole form through to the end. That's what I get for trying to work on my case with 3 screaming hellion children around me and the computer with the printer.

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-08-17 11:09:00
United KingdomI could kick myself... DS forms!

I don't really know anything about the DS 160. Is it similar to the 156 where you just fill it online and then mail it, or is it submitted directly once completed?

I can't imagine it will cause any problems, but I'm only guessing.

Its weird. It says its not for K applicants yet it had an option for it and talks about the I-129F . It possesses a lot of identical questions as the 156 but there were a lot more security questions. Once completed it just offers you to print the confirmation and it gets electronically submitted. I'd call NVC or DOS but they aren't open on weekends :(

United KingdomI could kick myself... DS forms!

So long story short, amidst an annoying and distracting situation while trying to sort out my forms for Packet 3, I ended up filing for a DS-160 instead of the DS-156. I have also just finished filling in and printing out the DS-156.

Since I can't actually speak to anyone at the London embassy over the weekend due to their phonelines not being open, does anyone know if this is going to mess up my whole K1 process?

Thanks! :S

United KingdomTax Transcript Question

I think they will accept scans as they have for others. London is not so nit-picky. Of course some new officer could come along and want originals, so we never know for sure.

So you got the transcript using Dad's SSN? My first transcripts I ordered included one that was joint and I was the second name, but still got it. The form says either filer has full access. But that was before the online order so maybe an issue with that way. I faxed in the transcript order form. Later ordering online was for subsequent years when I was a widow and the only filer. I have ordered all the ways---fax the form, phone the hotline, phone and get an immediate fax back of the transcript, and online. Interesting that a joint return did not index on both SSNs.

Yeah, I don't know all the details of how she ordered them, just that she went to the official website and ordered both kinds of transcripts and because her parents file together, she had to input her fathers, the primary filer, SSN number into the application for them to be able to obtain the records and send them out. I guess it's just how they do things now. On their form, it lists a "taxpayer identification number" followed by a "spouse taxpayer identification number" and under the name section they are listed as "Mr and Mrs" and in general it just shows their combined earnings (we then have a pay stub from mom and her W2 to coincide with the transcripts).

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-09-09 17:03:00
United KingdomTax Transcript Question

I have one more question about these tax related paperworks: a lot of it is just printed on plain white paper and nothing with any sort of embossing or watermarking, is it okay that my fiancée scans these and emails them to me so I can print them off for use at the embassy interview? Also with things like a pay stub, will the embassy want to see the genuine article or will a print out of a scan suffice?

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-09-06 14:11:00
United KingdomTax Transcript Question

Whichever name happens to be listed first when filling out the tax return is the primary. The joint money is lumped together and does not say who earned what. You need something besides a tax transcript to show what Mom's separate earnings are like employer letter, pay stubs, W2. Mom can still sponsor but say the tax return line 22 says $100,000. How do they know if Mom's part was $10k or $75k unless you have something else from mom.

For an I-134, London will not be so bothered, but for AOS you will get an RFE if you don't clearly show Mom's portion.

Gotcha. We planned on getting her W2 to go along with the transcript for the I-134 documents anyway so we'll keep it for the AOS paperwork too. Cheers!

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-08-24 04:10:00
United KingdomTax Transcript Question

Thanks for that. Yeah I had a feeling it had something to do with them filing jointly. I would imagine that on a transcript like that, it should show both contributors, the primary and the secondary. I'd imagine as long as it shows her moms contributions then that should be valid enough evidence to go with her I-134 form.

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-08-23 17:42:00
United KingdomTax Transcript Question

So my fiancée is putting together the I-134 collection of paperwork and we are having a co-sponsor, my mother in law. She says that when she went and put her mom's SSN in to the website to order the transcripts it "wouldn't work" and she thinks it has something to do with how both her mom and dad file their taxes together or jointly, whatever the term may be.

Is there something we are missing here? Or will we have to use her dads SSN to get the transcript? Will it contain her mom's contributions or will we have to have her dad fill out the form and be the co-sponsor instead?

United KingdomScheduling Interview

Just seen that London has apparently received my Packet 3 forms and logged them on CEAC, just got my medical coming up on the 13th and then they should have everything. Given that it apparently takes about a month to hear back regarding an interview appointment, how far in advance do they usually book your interview from the time you receive the packet 4 letter? I'm just trying to figure out if I will need my fiancée to write one of those "yes I still want to marry this guy" letters to take along to it.

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-09-10 04:02:00
United KingdomHow crucial is the ACRO check for the Medical?

Yeah there, was no problem, I was told by the staff member there on the phone that if I brought along my confirmation email (the one saying that ACRO received the application and have started processing it), I could show them that and they would still carry out the medical and I would just need to forward the actual certificate to them once I received it.

But I did receive the certificate in the mail before my appointment date so I took that along and everything went by as normal. :)

As a tip, I'd say its best to get your certificate done WELL in advance of the medical appointment, I allowed myself about 3 and a half weeks which I thought would be plenty but I didn't receive my ACRO check until a few days before the medical, hence why I was a little worried as I did not want to throw away £90 on a cancelled medical appointment. But they seem to be flexible with it, but still it's best to make sure you have everything and can go through the process the normal and most efficient way.

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-09-19 03:23:00
United KingdomHow crucial is the ACRO check for the Medical?

Well I called up ACRO today and they said the case was on its 7th day and that it will be mailed to me at the end of the week. I'm still torn as to whether I should reschedule my medical or not... I guess I will call the clinic and ask about other available appointments and see what they have. Just in case.

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-09-02 14:18:00
United KingdomHow crucial is the ACRO check for the Medical?

I got the same email from Acro so I called them because I had paid for a quick turnaround and was worried they only started to work on the certificate after they sent the email.  In fact they said they started processing it straight away and it would be delivered according to the service I paid for, from the date they received my application (which was about a week earlier than the date of the email).

The certificate followed very quickly and according to the time frame Acro set out.....you could always call them to check on progress...they were helpful when I called them.

Oh! That's interesting, I'll give that a go on Monday morning and find out, if that is the case then with any luck, I won't have to delay my medical. :)

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-08-31 08:53:00
United KingdomHow crucial is the ACRO check for the Medical?

When I booked the appointment, I said I had just sent off for it and that I would like to book the appointment in advance for mid September, the secretary said that should be fine and that "I should have it back by then" which is what I was lead to believe according to the information from ACRO, but alas...

You do need to have the certificate with you. I can't remember why.

I don't think you will need to change the appointment, but it is pushing it. From the date I received that email, it was 5 days until the certificate was delivered. But yours may take longer.

I presume your check was clear too? I hope I get as swift a return for mine. Well I guess I will see if I get anything during next week, if I don't have anything by Friday evening, I guess I'll have to change the appointment.

Master SemajMaleUnited Kingdom2013-08-31 05:47:00

Yeah, I see I can change my appointment as long as its more than 3 days beforehand, I just hoped I wouldn't have to since I had to time it all around work and time off.
