Oh I also have a couple questions about the DS230, guys.

And if so, what did you guys do about the police certificate? My wife tried and they said you cannot get a police certificate unless you get the letter from the embassy. Does that have to be sent in with the DS230 packet or can we send it in later?

Do I understand this correctly: my wife can send me a filled out DS230 now (besides the signature and the date) plus all the accompanying documents so I can send them in to the NVC from the US? I searched a lot but I couldn't find what documents exactly need to be submitted with the DS-230 packet. Also did you send certified translation of the birth and marriage certificates, or the originals?

Hi everyone.

I'm trying to get my wife ready for the NVC stage well ahead of time by getting her vaccinations done... There is a list of vaccinations HERE but it is unlikely that my wife will need them all. So, I was wondering if everyone could tell me (specially the females) what vaccinations they asked you to take?

Thanks!

Hmm wow that's interesting. Has it worked for other documents? If you used it for your I130 then I hope for your sake they don't raise a fuss about it!

I don't have to send a marriage certificate again, but just some document that has my wife's date of birth on it. And I called up USCIS again and it looks like I can send just a photocopy of her ID or birth certificate.

I can understand your furstration . You can translate documents yourself only requirement is that whoever translate it has to send a signed letter with it that he/she is fluent in both languages. I had sent for my N400 and I 130 before and they accepted it. Call again if you want to make sure and its possible some other rep at USCIS will give better answer. Good Luck

Thanks okay I've calmed down a bit... Really, you translated it yourself? Did you do that for the marriage certificate? Or what other document? And you just typed the translations in Word and printed them out?

Ugh I am so worried and pissed right now. So now I need to send in some kind of proof of my wife's birth-date and I'm sure another certified ###### translation of the marriage certificate won't do and now I need a certified translation of her birth certificate with a letter from the translator and every single time I need a copy of ANYTHING I have to wait for my relatives to feed the ###### bribe-fed bureaucracy in Pakistan to trot out a simple translation and mail it in. I can't ###### just keep copies of the birth certificate or marriage certificate and have them translated here because I know of nowhere that does an Urdu to English translation and even then I'm not sure the USCIS won't expect another ###### I-130 or an entirely new application or take umbrage to the fact that I'm ###### sending in a correction pre-emptively without an RFE or that the useless people manning the telephones at USCIS haven't given me the wrong information completely when they sound so unsure of what do do about ANYTHING. Goddammit.

In both of your cases call them on Monday, and talk to an operator, it is a lot easier to get through early in the day then mid-day.

I have same kind of situation., My wife's place of birth is incorrect on I130. I called number and California CS was busy so call was transferred to national customer service. Rep told me to send a signed letter for correction explainin the error. she could not tell me if I have to send new forms or just letter will be acceptable. Please share the address if you know to send the letter because she told me to send it to address which is on my latest notice of action.

Ok so I called them up and the lady said that I need to send in some evidence of the correct birthdate with a cover letter. Is there an established standard for sending something like this? It's not exactly an RFE cause they haven't send me anything about it but I just want to get it done. Also the forum search is offline :\

####### I just came to this forum for the exact same thing. I put the wrong date on the I-130 because I was too busy thinking of the date of the ceremony. I called the number but I couldn't get leave a message or anything, and there are no operators because it is a Saturday. Hopefully I can talk to them directly on Monday morning. I hope I don't have to resubmit anything.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions.. at DS230 stage, for Pakistan
Sigh there's too much conflicting information!

Is this correct:

-AOS bill paid
-AOS sent in
-IV bill paid
-NVC sends DS230 to beneficiary in Pakistan?
-she uses the letter to get a POLICE REPORT and sends me a copy? original?
-I send out already-filled DS230 part I and II and other documents + police report
-NVC sends case to embassy?

What's the point of James' shorcuts if I still have to wait for the police report which can't be obtained unless you have a letter from the embassy? Am I missing something?

Someone tell me what my NEXT STEP is? I paid the IV bill. WHAT NOW?

Hi, So I have already sent in my AOS packet, and have payed my IV bill. I have my DS230 barcode sheet printed, and I have all the papers.

Can I send it in? Should I send in Part II as well?

And I don't have a police report. We can't get one until the embassy sends a letter to my wife. When will that happen?

And when will my wife hear about when the medical examination will take place?

I'm confused how this works!

Someone please explain the timeline at this point? Thanks.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS230 - Did you send in ORIGINAL marriage/birth cerificates?
OK folks, I spoke to another person at NVC who seemed very knowledgeable.

What he told me is that the police certificate is not required for people from Pakistan and that my wife should take it with her to the interview. So that's settled.

As for the birth certificate, even though I have an official copy (not photocopy) of the birth certificate issued from the same place that issues the Urdu-language ones, he thought it was border-line and that 'that might not fly.' So, yeah, gonna get my wife to send the original.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Also is it just me or are the NVC operators some of the most patient and helpful call-center people you've ever talked to? I've never talked to any company's employees who were so consistently nice.

you should read through the DS230 instructions to make sure you are not missing anything else. did you not get a link to it before you sent the form to NVC?
you need certified translations of any non-English documents in addition to the original/certified copy
all of that information is in the link we posted

Wow overwhelming response for originals! Thanks for the quick replies.

One quick question: do you think translations from the appropriate issuing authorities count? Because otherwise I have to get my wife's ORIGINAL birth certificate mailed all the way from Pakistan and I'd be very worried about it getting lost!

That's true, I've read all those pages, my point is that the specific wording seems to allow a English language version that's officially released from the same appropriate authority to work simultaneously as a translation and an original.

I'm going to go home and see what the translation looks like and says. If it seems original enough I might take my chances with the NVC.

Today I called the NVC and the lady said it was ok if I didn't send in a police certificate as the station in Pakistan won't make us one til we have a letter from the embassy, and that my wife should take the police certificate to her interview.

BUT she said something which has me worried: that I need to send in the ORIGINAL birth and marriage certificates with my DS230 I+II. Really? The originals? That doesn't seem right. What has been your experience?

It says "original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity)."

So if I have official translations of the documents, can I just send those?

Jon

It depends on the city. I was living in Bucaramanga and my husband (fiance then) and I got a couple vonages, one for him and one for me. Now my mother kept one of the vonages so we can keep in touch.

In Bucaramanga all available was DSL or cable. 128k was the highest.

It worked just about fine. We could talk but not at the hours of high internet traffic and also noone else could be using any internet application.

Now if she is in a bigger city like Bogota, Barranquilla and probably even Medellin, she can probably get at the very least 256k of internet speed. It should work just fine, and the truth is that if you guys talk in the phone a lot, it's totally worth it.

Saludos

Totally agree with the other posters. If they thought it was important or necessary for you to meet his family, they'd let you know in the instructions to the Petition smile.gif

Another thing is most people seem to agree that the adjudicators don't really care so much where your fiance is from, how long you've been together, what sort of things you've done together, about age, etc etc., so long as you fulfill all the requirements they ask for. Apparently there are certain places and certain activities that raise red flags with them, which is understandable if something looks suspicious, but on the whole they've seen all sorts of cases and really I think at this phase we're just another piece of paper to them.
I only say all that because you said you're asking the advice of others who are marrying Cubans specifically, so didn't want you to worry about like...extra difficulties or anything like that. It doesn't seem like the US Centers treat any of the petitions differently. Only later at the interview stage do you have to start worrying about what your specific embassy requires, etc.

Good luck. It all sounds okay to me good.gif

not to mention that lots of US citizens feel it is an outrage the US government is in contravention of our Human Rights, one of which is freedom to travel within and without of our country (that's one of the things we supposedly criticize Cuba for), in preventing travel to Cuba by not letting us spend money in cuba. technically, you are allowed to travel to cuba, but it is illegal to spend money there.

lots of US citizens do travel there. you could make the claim that your expenses were paid for by your cuban fiance.

don't know how you feel about breaking the law, but some americans do it and very, very few per year are prosecuted.

QUOTE (J.Ro @ Apr 24 2008, 03:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Osvaldo went to the immigration office in Cienfuegos in hopes of finding out what the new announcements mean for our situation. The office was mobbed with people seeking clarification about the new policies. The immigration officials seemed not to know, or reluctant to say, anything about this. Eventually Osvaldo was told that he would not need a carta blanca for his fiance visa, but by that point he had little faith in the information.

I am eager for any clarification; if it's true that the carta blanca is no longer necessary, he (and other Cuban fiance/es)could theoretically leave within a short time of receiving the visa. And since I plan to attend the interview, theoretically we could come back to the US together. But at this point it seems best to wait before buying a lot of tickets.

If anyone has any updates regarding the new permiso de salir/carta blanca process, please post.

No Updates -- just more rumors. Some said the announcement might come on May 1st. Some said July 26th. And some said May 15th, but that might just be a tease to keep us getting our hopes up.

I feel the same way as you...if that part goes away, the exit will be faster and less stressful so let's keep our fingers crossed.

I believe the carta blanca is gone. Mary has her Carta blanca in her passport, and was asked by the office of immgration to come in 10 days before she leaves. She went to the office and they told her there going to remove the Carta blanca, and add a stamp there...they took her passport, plane tickets and carne. she going to pick up the passport and plane tickes on thrusday, and unfortunatly, they are going to keep the carne. 9 more days until she gets here...i can't wait....Edwin

thanks for the news.

and for you -- congratulations and big luck! all the waiting is about to end. you must be so excited!
please do come back and keep us posted of how the adjustment phase goes.

This seems like fabulous news; thanks for posting it! My fiance, Osvaldo, is going to immigration right now to find out about this.

great! and please post whatever he may find out. from today's news articles, it seems like nothing has been announced yet, but the consensus is that it's just a matter of a short time.

but yes -- please share what your fiance finds out -- when mine writes, they are short emails -- because he types too slow and the time always runs out! ;-)
