K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHow do you know it is a NOA2 of I-129

Hi I logged into the USCIS.gov website for the first time today and I see the "intital review" circle highlighted in blue.

How did you know it was the NOA2 - it it the circle on the USCIS website that says "initial review". The first circle "acceptance" and the other circles are in gray color.

When it's approved, it will look like this:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAnybody who have not gotten their NOA2 with a January 2012 NOA1

Just want to know if there are other people who is in the same predicament or I'm the only guy who have a January 12, 2012 NOA1 and have not received the NOA2 up to now?

I read Feb NOA1 people are receiving their NOA2 already.

Be sure to visit/read the January I-129F Filers thread: http://www.visajourn...y-i-129-filers/

As has been noted in other threads, it seems the Vermont Service Center is slowing down a bit while the California one is going a bit faster these days.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsRFE: Met my fiancee within the required 2 year period?
You may want to start a new thread for your situation in the Adjustment of Status forum. Posting about a spousal visa in the K-1 forum may not get you the best answers needed and it may take longer for people to see your inquiry since it's in another, unrelated thread.

http://www.visajourn...ly-based-visas/

The fear for me is because I'm flying "blind" especially in the beginning and so there's that fear that I forgot something or need something that is back in my wife's native country. Reading on here today is the first time I've heard of RFE. We don't have anything joint accounts, utilities, etc together because my wife has never been to the US before. But again the I-130 and I-864 ( I think I may have put the wrong form number in my earlier post) but anyway the affidavit of support, all that was approved. I talked to USCIS a couple months ago when I asked how to proceed with my stepdaughters petition and my wifes since they want to arrive at the same time but they have separate I-130's, etc. USCIS told me to wait before submitting the visa application for my wife and wait until my stepdaughters paperwork is at that point where I'm ready to submit her visa application. After sending them in at the same time I'm supposed to call USCIS and tell them so they can put both their visa applications together before sending to their home country where their visas will be issued.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPredicted Timeline
A couple of things to keep in mind...

The data on VJ isn't the most accurate since it's relies on VJ users to update their timelines in a timely manner. There are plenty of people who sign up for the site, start a timeline and then abandon, so that can skew the data.

Also, the users on VJ represent a small portion of the petitions processed by any Service Center and the SCs handle different types of petitions, i.e. VSC and CSC aren't just adjudicating fiancé(e) and spousal petitions.

Last, but not least, take time away from the site when needed lest you lose your mind during this process!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPetition to Visa Process

Ok I have a quick question. We are waiting for NOA2, and I want to let my fiancee know how the system works and what to expect. I don't want to tell her something that is incorrect. If you get the NOA2 of acceptance and that it is going to the NVC, is an interview guaranteed at that point? Thanks and good luck to all. For all the folks you hear that say "time just goes by so fast anymore", they should go through this process and see time really slow down to a crawl!!

You should both read the K-1 guide and flowchart to get an idea of the process: http://www.visajourn.../content/k1flow

And then check the regional forum for additional insights specific to folks who are going through/have been through Thailand.

Nothing is guaranteed. :)

I'm in the same boat but I forgot a lot more than the letter of intent, I'm scrambling now to gather everything and send it but would it be best for me to send it to Vermont or to the Lockbox? I'm scared i'm just going to be denied instead of getting an RFE for I want to attempt to send what they need now before they process our application. ( Yes I know its not a guarantee)

You can try to send it now, provided you have your petition case number. However, it is not guaranteed that it will all be matched up with your petition. How long ago did you file?

I did mention on my application that my intention was to marry and start a family... Hope I don't get a RFE

Still, it's better to prepare as if you will receive an RFE and have the signed letter at the ready vs. scrambling to get everything together. What happens to some doesn't mean it will be the same in your case.

The example letter on the VJ site is a great model to follow. It doesn't need to be notarized, but you will need to sign in ink and have the original copies (one for each of you). Don't worry about including mailing address on the letter, but if you want, just use the address of the Service Center. We used the Dallas Lockbox address when we sent in our petition package and didn't have any issues.

Not sure how it works with spousal petitions, you may want to ask that question in the spousal visa forum.

In my case (K-1), our approved petition was sitting in the CSC mail room for close to a month. It was mailed to the NVC on July 12 and I received the consular number on July 17.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC hasn't received my file

I received my NOA2 on June 15th. I have been calling every day waiting to hear "We have it...". But so far nothing. They keep saying that i am not in the system yet.

Today, it has reached 15 working days since then. And they told me that it should be there by now. So they gave me the email nvcresearch@state.gov and told me to email them a scanned copy of my NOA2 letter for them to research and figure out where my file is. This is so frustrating.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does this happen often? Is there anything I am do to speed up the process? Is this something I should worry about?

Thanks all for the feedback and support.

Happened to me as well. I sent a scan in yesterday and am now in "wait and see" mode. I'll try calling again at the end of the week to see if there is an update.

Agree with GB55...do you mean your fiancé received a notice that the petition has been forwarded to the California Service Center?

Unfortunately, if your fiancé missed the part of the I-129F instructions on where it clearly states where to send the petition, I hope for your sake that he didn't miss any other crucial details on what to include with the petition that could further delay the process.

Ah yes, another attorney... :P

She's correct if she's talking about the timeframe from filing the I-129F petition and supporting materials to when you can expect to receive an approval, RFE, or denial. Otherwise, it's more likely the process -- from filing the I-129F to receiving the visa in hand -- will take 8-9 months, if you're lucky.

Yes , her mum promised to serve as co-sponsor.

As long as her mum is set as a co-sponsor -- and I'm assuming that would hold true for the adjustment of status where the I-864 actually legally binding -- then her situation shouldn't impact the interview. The key thing is that you won't become a public charge and that either the petitioner or co-sponsor will be on the line to repay anything. That said, since you're still waiting for the NOA2, it's possible that she'll find a new job by then as well. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsTax Break: Get Married Dec 31???
You also don't need an SSN to file taxes - my wife and I got married last December and she didn't yet have an SSN, so we applied for an ITIN (individual tax ID number?) and filed joint taxes that way. It was pretty easy. It doesn't seem like it will be necessary in your case, but it is a possibility. Also, some states require a waiting period before getting married (it's 3 days in Oregon, but you can get that waived if you pay an extra $10 fee or something). You should find out since you'll have to apply for the marriage license in time to be married on the 31st. Getting married in December and filing joint taxes earned us $6,000, so it was definitely worth it timing-wise (of course, this is different if your soon-to-be spouse has an income, but my wife didn't).

You'll need to put the bottles of skin lotion (along with any other liquids/gels in a ziplock baggie, and take them out of your bag and put them in a bin at the security checkpoint, most likely. They'll only make you unpack and show them what it is if it's down at the bottom of your bag and they see it in the xray.

PhilippinesNew middle name after marriage
Due to the odd name change rules in BC, Canada, my new name is In the form of (first) (middle) (maiden) (last) - 2 last names, no hyphen. Moving my maiden name to a middle name or hyphenating would have required a legal name change, which costs a couple hundred dollars and changes the name on my birth certificate! Craziest thing I ever heard of! Oh well, for everything other than official government ID it'll just look like I moved maiden to middle (which is what I wanted)

Anyway, I say either do the traditional thing, or keep all the names. It's funny, I always assumed I'd just take my husband's name... But when it came right down to it, I just didn't want to give mine up completely. I knew it wasn't completely rational, but it was important to me, and hubby was totally supportive. (He was just really glad I wanted to take his name)

Philippinesgetting new passport after you get case #

no she is filipino who wants to get a u.s.passport in her married name for NVC

She can't get a US passport until she's a US citizen. What she needs to do is get a new Phillipines passport with her married name, and send a copy of that BIO page with her other IV documents to NVC.

When she gets her visa, (and subsequently her green card, that will be issued in the name on her current (IE Phillipines) passport. So if you want those documents to be in her married name, the first step is to get a new Phillipines passport, in the married name.

You might want to post in the Phillipines Portal to get information about how to do that, because I don't know.

Relax. The "documents" box on the ceac website will probably always say N/A. They've started upgrading their computer system, but they're not all the way there yet. No one on here has had any updates in those boxes. If they say they have all the documents when you talk to them on the phone, all you can do is wait. Keep calling once a week or so to see if you're getting a checklist, but don't send anything else unless they ask. Some people have gotten a bit delayed because the NVC were ready to give a case complete, but there were still packages that hadn't been reviewed.

PhilippinesQ: Ticket name Passport (Maiden) Name or New Married Name for Return visit to Philippines from U.S?

No, no, no! The first poster is right.

We, Inday, Filipina, and RK, U.S. citizen, are considering a trip to Philippines soon, visiting family for several weeks.  We have a question about what is appropriate name to have on Inday?s airline ticket.  Currently, Inday?s passport is still in her maiden name (firstname maiden-middlename maiden-surname-as-last-name).  However, the two-year permanent resident card (?green card?) shows married name (firstname  maiden-surname-as-middlename husband-surname-as-last-name).

Which of these two name forms is to be used on the airline ticket?  To match passport or green card?  (We ask because we know Philippine passport is need for visit to Philippines, but the Permanent Resident Card is needed to enter the U.S. but know name on ticket must match ID).

Thank you akk very much for your continuing and always welcome help.

RK and Inday

P.S.  Yes, we did use ?advanced search? feature but found discrepant answers, and in older posts, so were hoping to find what is the current and correct answer.

The answer is "match the green card" Inday needs to use her married name because she's legally married to R.K. and her green card needs to match to her plane ticket. Inday's green card is now her permit to enter the US. To play safe just bring Inday's married certificate.

No, No NO!

The first answer is right. The ticket must match the passport. The passport is the id they require to get through security. The marriage certificate explains why the green card is different.

Also, if you can, get the new passport while you're in PH. But keep the old one and show them both when you get on the plane to return to the US. Then you won't have this problem again.

Perhaps you should schedule an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and talk to a real immigration officer. Most of the customer service reps on the USCIS hotlines are there on contracts and don't really know much about what they are saying. So it is best you talk to a real person regarding this.

PhilippinesAge difference of fiance to fiancee?

Here's the thing for me.

When people make a statement that we (American men who married a woman from the Philippines) married for any reason other than love - it is judging. It's also very insulting.

I assume that every person on VJ, no matter which country they are from, marries for love. Yet, for some reason, it is acceptable to think less of my marriage?

If someone wants to know about my marriage, then ask. But don't tell me we married because I wanted a young wife and she wanted money. It is insulting and judgmental. To claim it isn't is not believable.

BJ, people have always married for various reasons, and the romantic notion of people marrying strictly out of love is a fairly modern one and to be quite frank, a fairy tale. That doesn't mean the love between the two spouses isn't real or that somehow the marriage is less legitimate. I brought this up earlier in the thread - ask yourself these questions:

1. Would you have ever considered marrying a woman who is 20 years or older than yourself?
2. What if she's over 20 years your senior, divorced and has kids?
3. What if she's also overweight and not attractive by modern standards?

Because if love truly is blind as you suggest, then we'd see a diverse crowd of Fil/Am couples here, but we don't. There is a disproportionate amount of older men married to younger women. Where are the older, divorced and overweight Filipinas with children finding younger, attractive husbands? I doubt you'll find any.

I don't think anyone needs to feel defensive about that reality. It is what it is and in the end, if both spouses are truly content, that's all that matters. But the issue of the age gaps gets brought up here often because people are curious why so many older men are marrying younger women. The reasons why have to do with economics, because with all things being equal, we wouldn't be seeing such a disproportionate amount of older men married to younger Filipinas.

PhilippinesAge difference of fiance to fiancee?

My personal issue with this line of thinking is that you are confining the discussion to Filipinas specifically (and perhaps Southeast Asians in general). The issue is endemic worldwide. Upwards social movement is easiest when done through marriage for everyone, regardless of nationality or ethnicity. It is not gender specific either. Look at the large number of older white women that marry young Nigerian men for example. It is not only perceived wealth though but also a difference in cultural expectations of a spouse. Ask your average single college-educated, 25 year old woman in the US what marriage and family means to her and ask the same of a single, college-educated, 25 year old Filipina and compare the answers. That may give much more of an indication why American men seek out relationships overseas.

However I think you have a flawed assumption. American men are not the best when it comes to financial stability (that would be Northern European and Japanese men) and the major advantage we hold over those that have better financial situations is that English is native for us and Filipino culture is heavily influenced by the US. Culture and language are major hurdles for the women of the Philippines to overcome when marrying a foreigner but are avoided without too much trouble by marrying an American.

You bring up some valid points about why many Filipinas marry American men, but that's really beside the point since across the board, it's largely older men marrying younger women - a statistic that doesn't exist in other foreign marriages when both spouses are from similar economic backgrounds.

There aren't many older men marrying younger American women who are poor because even among the poorest Americans, they believe that economic opportunities exist without having to marry for them that their Filipina counterparts don't have.

PhilippinesAge difference of fiance to fiancee?

27 years ago I married an African-American woman. Despite it being the enlightened 80s we were prepared for the fact that some friends, family members or people in general would not approve of what we had done. I worked on myself, determining what I might say or do; when I might speak out and when I might let things slide. In the end, while we did have some negative responses there weren't that many. A few family members were unhappy. I found out my father was a bigger racist than I'd realized. On the flip side, other people befriended us, thinking (perhaps falsely) that we were in some weird way gutsy. So it balanced out but still we were always aware that a few people would judge us.

It may seem that this issue is not at all the same as race, but I think it has similarities. Back then no one would ever admit they were racists; they simply had logical reasons inter-racial relationships could not work. I heard many of the same reasons for opposing that marriage: what could you possibly have in common, wont you find constant opposition in society, what about any kids you might have, you are just slumming, it's only about sex, and that overriding and ubiquitous judgment - it's just plain wrong.

When it comes to sex, America is still puritanical. A couple generations ago it was marriage between people of different religions that was considered wrong or immoral. Then it was inter-racial marriages. Then same sex relations. Some Americans just have a hard time with who sleeps with whom.

Just as 27 years ago, I have gotten to think about this issue now and decide how I wish to live and how I wish to respond to any opposition we might face. No, I won't go postal on anyone - it's just not my nature. But I do expect that a friendship or two might be affected. In a way the time it takes for the Visa to be finalized has given me time to work on a few of my friends who I think might have an issue. I will show them that our relationship is wonderful. Ultimately they will have to decide to accept it or not. Life is too short and I am too old to invite people into my home and life who judge us.

But regardless of how I respond to individuals in my life, including making a decision to turn the other cheek, I will not put my head in the sand. Just as nearly 3 decades ago I could not pretend that racism did not exist, I cannot now pretend that predjudice does not exist about other cultures, or that ageism doesn't exist. It does! How I will deal with it will change on a case by case basis.

In the end as with most major life changes, some people will be added to my life and some will fall by the wayside.

Thanks for sharing that but the issue behind the age gap of these marriages is that the American men have the upperhand. He typically has many eager Filipinas to choose from as many of then will say up front they are looking for an American husband. So it's natural to pick one that is young, pretty and petite. Its like hitting the jackpot - a plethora of young, eager women who can't wait to be married to a man much older.

PhilippinesAge difference of fiance to fiancee?
There's really no need to feel defensive about anyone's relationship here. No one here is qualified to judge the validity of the marriage. People are just curious why there's such a high number of older men with younger Filipina wives. The men here are choosing younger wives because they can. The younger women are open to marrying men much older than they are because economic opportunities are more important to them than age compatibility. If that makes you uncomfortable, just wait until you hear it from family and friends.

PhilippinesAge difference of fiance to fiancee?

You say this like it's a bad thing:)

OK, let me be serious then. This attitude (which has been expressed several times in this thread) is even more offensive than the simple "it is wrong and immoral" kind of junk espoused earlier in this thread. Why? Because it pre-supposes that the young woman in question is so desperate (and perhaps lacking in morals) that she would marry only for money, and that the older man is so slimy that he would take advantage of a younger woman whom he knew did not love him, just so he could get sex.

Since the Philippines is a poor country, by definition most girls there are poor. Are they all desperate? Some are perhaps, but most have great character. Doesn't your Filipina?

Frankly the largest number of gold diggers in the world can be found right here in the good ol USA, but that's another issue.

As to financial stability, most women want that. I have rarely heard a woman, American or otherwise say, "My goal is to marry an unemployed bum." Every woman dreams of a man she can respect and who is financially viable. Therefore again by definition any older man who is financially stable (not all older men are) has a distinct advantage over a man who is not - in all cultures. He has as you put it "an upper hand." That's the way it should be, BTW.

The last time anyone had the gall to tell me to my face that my then gf (now fiancee) was only interested in me for my money I told them I knew this was not true and could easily prove why my gf was interested in me. The accuser, an American woman (naturally), asked what's the reason and how could I prove it.

"The reason's simple," I said. "I have an incredibly large Johnson." For whatever reason she didn't ask for proof lol!

With all things being equal, women nowadays don't need to find a man for financial stability.
one...two...treeMalePhilippines2013-01-21 02:08:00
PhilippinesAge difference of fiance to fiancee?
Why people bring up the issue is because there's an imbalance where a majority of older men are seeking out younger women. It is disproportionate even among married men when their wife is American. People wonder why. It comes down to economics - these young women are looking for opportunity and financial stability that is harder to achieve in their country. That gives the American men the upperhand in picking what they want - young, pretty, petite.

PhilippinesAge difference of fiance to fiancee?

I'm talking about the age difference.

Many of these guys here chose to find a younger Filipina wife because it is a lot easier to find someone considerably younger and more attractive than anything they would have a chance at here in the states. It is a double standard, but I doubt most of the age gapes reach a level of creepiness. It is what it is and these couples aren't fooling themselves into believing that the courtship was on a level playing field. Take away economic desperation of these young women and offer them opportunities within their country to move up the economic ladder and they wouldn't be looking to marry older, foreign men.

PhilippinesAge difference of fiance to fiancee?
If you asked a guy here if he'd consider marrying a woman 20 years older than him, he'd probably choke on his saliva.

If you ask a young American woman if she would marry a man 20 years older than her she would first want to look at his financial portfolio. If you told her the guy isn't wealthy by any American standards, she'd tell you to get lost.

It's a double standard, but it is what it is.

ETA: There's also the baggage of previous marriage(s) - lots of men and women who are single don't want to touch that with a ten foot pole.
