Thanks for your advice! I certainly won't lie at the border, just wondering if I should explain the whole situation right off or just go with a simple, technically correct answer to begin with, then elaborate if need be...

CanadaVisiting Canada for 6 months
Hi everyone! I am an American living in Canada with my fiance, waiting for his K1 to go through so we can move to the states. I entered Canada on a 6 month work permit, which I hoped to extend so that I could stay up here longer and not be seperated for so long from my fiance. The extension was denied. I immediately applied to change my status from a worker to a visitor. I was told that I could either go back to the US and then through the border, or mail in a form in order to change my status. I opted to mail in the form, thinking it would be good to have some kind of paperwork in hand. I am hoping to stay here with him for 6 more months, then go back down ahead of him in order to find work. My question is this: I am going down to the US to visit my dad, and I am worried about being denied at the border coming back. I live here and all of my things are here. I spoke with Immigration Canada several times and explained the situation to them, and every person I spoke with told me that I shouldn't have any problem at the border- that US citizens can visit Canada for up to 6 months no problem. The form I mailed in to change my status takes 4 months to process, and at the very least I am here legally until they reach a decision under "implied status." I have my K1 application to show them that I intend to move back to the US, but no job or apartment in the states. Does anyone have experience with this? Should I tell them the whole story right away or just say that I am visiting my boyfriend? I want to look forward to my vacation, but this paranoia about getting back into Canada keeps nagging at me.

Just got off the phone, mom's got a case number! Posted Image Less than 20 days from the date (Dec27) NVC received it. Can't wait to call my parents about the progress. But it's still 2 am over there so I guess I will have to wait for a few more hours.

I had a nightmare the other night that the Embassy shipped me the wrong husband in a box. I asked the embassy how could they make such a mistake. They said that the embassies are now responsible for choosing spouses for USCs. I said #######? Then I woke up. Hahahahaha

Whoa. That definitely is a nightmare. Posted Image

I am happy but just because it was a short approval doesn't mean this was easy. They should have approved us in a month. We have been together quite a while. I need to leave Sri Lanka and was told there was no DCF there and I had to file from the U.S. So I came home, found a job after 6 months, had to wait another 6 months to be able to receive permission from my job to take a vacation, I went over, we got married and then starting filing all of my paperwork. This as been really hard going from being with someone every single day, wake of the morning, watching the sun rise, dinner together, tea lunch, go to my job for events, slept together for over 365 days and be separated. We have a house together there and everything. So I am quite irritated with this whole thing. But, i'm trying not to be grouchy. kind of hard with a king size bed with one person in it.

That is really tough to be away from your spouse. It is indeed been a long process for you.

I've been having trouble getting sleep with this waiting. Posted Image

Yes we are surving this. Maybe we should make a reality show. Hahahaha immigrations pressures of life. Who will survive the longest without their spouse? Find out in season 2.

All jokes aside, This would be a good way to expose our hardships and the tolls it takes on our lives.

Now that's a reality show I'd be interested to watch! I like that title. Posted Image

I have never experienced their line this busy before. I preferred it when they had the automated voice response system going on. Infact i hardly opted to speak with a human then. Well now that i finally got through, I will stay on until i speak with someone even if it means i arrive late at work cos I am supposed to be leaving for work in abt 45mins.

Their phones must have be ringing off the hook since they opened. Posted Image Maybe they are better off with the automated system. I'd prefer not to speak to anyone too. Good luck. Hope you get your case number today. Posted Image

awwww thats very sweet. i didnt call friday as i was not physically up to it but i sent an email over the weekend. Today now, i made the silly mistake of trying to give NVC time to setlle down for the day before i call and now their line has been CONSTANTLY ringing busy since 1215pm. I hope it means they all decided to stay away from the phones and get all our cases into their system and also sort through their mail room for people like Emily S' file.
I get very ####### when it gets to this stage.....I have had the phone in my hand non stop for several hours now and been redialling without success....patience! patience! I hear in my head. lol

Their line has been so busy today. I gave up this morning & tried this afternoon until I was finally able to get through but had to wait for over 30 mins. Only to be told that my mom's case is still not in the system. Posted Image

Great work! You are on your way.

I called today but they told me nothing is in the system yet. I will check my email then. I asked the guy if he could take my email he said no cause my case is not in the system. Hmmm dont know if I can expect a case number before next werk or not.

Thanks for the update!

I'm assuming that the 20+ days that they said it would take to have an assigned case number. It took that long for my dad, Dec 10 the case arrived & Dec 31(today) when they send me the PDF email. When I called earlier the operator knew my email address because of the 2 times I've emailed (inquiry) NVC. The times I've called on the phone I didn't tell them about my email or my parents emails.

When did your case arrived in NVC? Maybe you can timed it & call them back 20 days after. Posted Image

Just an update:
I emailed NVC last Dec 22 & just got an automated response & up till now no reply whether case numbers have been assigned.
I called today Dec 31 & mom's case arrived last week ( no specific date that she can tell me) & no case number yet. Dad's case has case number assigned.

I am going to wait until 2nd week of January & probably will be lucky to have mom's case number & IIN for both case. I want to pay one AOS fee for both petitions & process them together so they will have same day interviews.

Yes I figured it might be January. Nothing hurts to be hopeful. I am now just worried about trying to file taxes and get them back in time. If NVC dont want the 2012 taxes I am sure the Embassy will. Or will NVC make us wait and file taxes. What do you think?

I plan on using the last 3 years (2009, 2010 & 2011), by law I can't file before January 31. We don't necessarily have to include the 2012 ITR/transcripts since we have until April 15 (last day) to file. Hope this will work.

Well, they have at least one of them. I wonder why this takes so long. Isnt it all electronic? Or are they using the post office like its the 1800s and there is a man and a wagon caring our files to New York?

With the vacation holidays they are probably going to get around to assigning us case numbers by January. Posted Image

Mid December approval here.
My understanding is that you shouldn't wait for NVC, but start calling 1 or 2 weeks after NOA2, which would be end of December for me.
Do you all do that?
Did you receive anything from NVC yet (mail, email)?

I emailed NVC on Dec 9 (6 days after the NOA2) & they emailed me back Dec 14 that they recently received the petition.
I called NVC on Dec 19 to inquire if they have assigned a case number & they told me that father's case is still not in the system. Posted Image
