PhilippinesNBI CLEARANCE vs POLICE CLEARANCE
QUOTE (thirdsjen @ Sep 5 2008, 02:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
hi all!

anybody has had this happened to them? I'm petitioning my husband and we got his NBI clearance last month.. sent it in with the DS-230 and i made sure everything was in order, etc.. then the other day, i spoke with an operator at NVC, asking what info was missing from the DS-230 and she said I HAVE NO POLICE CLEARANCE!!

ano ba yan??? dba yung NBI and POLICE CLEARANCE are the same thing?? so needless to say, she got an earful from me although it wasn't her fault.. so i dont' know what to do now.. so frustrated.. had my husband get a police clearance in case they won't accept the NBI..

so dumb! headbonk.gif wow.gif headbonk.gif

Kung nagworked or lived abroad ang husband mo for a year or more din kailangan yung magsubmit ng Police Clearance galing abroad.

OTHER COUNTRY POLICE CERTIFICATES. Applicants aged 16 years and older must also present police certificates from other countries where they have lived for one (1) year or more after reaching the age of 16. As with NBI clearances, foreign police certificates should be obtained in any maiden names, aliases or nicknames used while in the country in question, including different spellings you have used of those names. Country-specific information on how to secure police certificates is available on the State Department’s web site at http://travel.state....ocity_3272.html.

PhilippinesMen Your Thoughts On Filipina

You speak English rather well. So well, in fact, that I am surprised you don't understand all the subtleties of the language. But, carry on.

If you are offended, then why? Do you think everyone should be treated with the same respect, or just a modicum of respect? Can one earn respect? Should some folks receive more respect than others?

Excuse ME if I miss the irony, but are the subtleties of the language at work below? I rest my case.

Only after they meet their American sisters, who will educate them.

As for your questions,I find "why" questions and "should" statements to be almost next to useless in navigating my life. The rest can better be answered by someone willing to write a dissertation on the topic (I don't).

My last post on this topic. Back to regular programming....

Check out the RUB forum. At least the Pinay get some respect.

"Some respect?"

I believe it's either you respect someone or you don't. Going by the "dog breed" analogy used elsewhere in this thread, respect is not like dinner table scraps you dispense at your leisure, it's giving someone --- whether Filipina, American or Martian --- a full seat at that table.

PhilippinesMen Your Thoughts On Filipina

I doubt it is jealousy that's making her cringe.

My wife stated / posed in an earlier post. How would an American feel about being referred to as ..."my American".
Asawa ko and I recognize the phrase, "my Filipina" , is probably being used as a term of endearment.

(but) Ask yourself the q....if you were being referred to as "my American"...that's OK with you? I'm sure it would be OK with me as long as used with appropriate connotation and as a term of endearment. (but) Should it be OK?

(another but) Giving a nod to the gentler sex, and recognizing the historical victimization of women being treated as property, objectified and subordinate to men.... I wonder if there is not some (albeit diluted) version of this victimization when referring to a woman with a cultural label. Couldn't this also be a way of objectifying a woman and at the same time...a little bit of racism mixed in the drink?

Michael

I was trying to avoid the "O" word (objectifying), but there, you said it  I'm wondering too if other foreign SOs get as much of this "possessive adjective + nationality" endearment or if it's mostly just Pinays.

At any rate, doesn't hurt to be aware of these things, guys. Food for thought. Am truly happy for the posters here who found the loves of their lives in our beautiful country.

I'm with you...and in fact, I would feel very offended, dissed and minimized if my husband referred to me in this way.
I wonder, IF, these men would like to be referred to as "my American" by their spouses/finacess and I wonder how they'd feel about it.

Thom,

Are you at all aware of the fact that the way you speak of these women sound as if you're referring to a breed of dog?

'the fillipina' - ick

women are individuals.

Proud to be a Filipino citizen. Wouldn't want to be anyone else. I also have the greatest respect for our fellow Pinays who work menial jobs abroad.

But sad to say, the term "Filipina" has also been freighted, as a result, with certain inaccurate generalizations, sometimes extending to how some people see our women as potential life partners. It wasn't too long ago when a certain English dictionary was using "Filipina" as a synonym for, guess what, household help.

I'm saying all these by way of information, not to cry racial slur. Just to let you know there are Filipinos like me who might feel extra-sensitive about these things. I've no issue whatsoever if your wife or fiancee doesn't mind or is even flattered being "someone's Filipina."

Grace

No disrespect intended...

No offense taken :innocent:

I never can get used to that peculiar term of endearment "my Filipina," though I'm sure many guys here say that with the most loving of intentions.

As for me, I'll be a little baffled if my dear beloved started referring to me as "his Filipina" when talking about me with other people, him being that type of guy who bothers to ask whether I would want to take on his surname after we're married.

They are applying for K1 Visa this time, im wondering if its possible they will be approved?????is it real possible?? will evidences of communicating each other will be good enough? or there's just another way around to make them be approved?

Can anyone there share to me their thoughts about this situation?

They might even get their petition approved the next month (or was it the same month after filing?). That has been known to happen here B-)

PhilippinesAnyone here from the Philippines?

I understand perfectly: the USCIS is not funded by our tax dollars.

If you disagree, please tell me how you think the USCIS is funded.

I personally have no idea.

The vague association between USCIS and tax dollars just cropped up in one of my small talks with my fiance. He recently got a notice about owing additional taxes to the US government. I just found it mildly ironic that he pays a small Philippine fortune in taxes annually and it's taking the government a while to decide whether he deserves to bring a loved one abroad to his country.

PhilippinesAnyone here from the Philippines?

They should hire more staff to do the reviewing of petition papers to keep us all going. Our American citizen fiances deserve a good service in return of paying their taxes!

I was tempted to bring up the "good taxpayer" card if ever we have to ask help from legislators, but I was told that might not sit well if your congressman or senator is a Democrat :hehe: Might sound like you're a Republican with a beef against taxes.

Thank you all,yup i want to have that vaccine, but if its not neccesary for now,i will take it later after the visa process,i don't have had any of all the vaccine that is listed in the requirements, and most of them are really expensive,so i am just trying to help my fiance not to spend that much this time,i am just dependent on him.that's the only way i can help him financially :) thanks all

You can also look at vaccines as insurance against having to spend a fortune later for medical bills.

The good news is that market forces work to eventually drive down prices of the really critical vaccines. An example of this is for Hepatitis B. You can now get this vaccine for a tenth of its price just a few years ago.

aahh...i heard lots of people advicing that too..hhmm..i myt check it out..btw, does the mothers should be wearing a different color motif from the brides maid and maid of honor??

What's your color motif? It really depends on you, or how many colors you want as motif. If you have two (Yellow and blue, for example) Your Mom can have/wear one of the colors. In my opinion, it need not be the same color as the bridesmaids and maid of honor. Or, if you have only one color motif, your Mom can wear a different shade of that color. It need not be monochromatic.

I am now in a treatment for having TB skin test positive but chest X-ray clear and negative.
The nurse told me that I need to undergo treatment for 9 months. To kill the bacteria whatever that is... I have to,anyway it's for free!

Be sure to have full documentation that you had the treatment before coming to the US. In that way, you have proof to show. Eventually, as we go through with the job applications here in the US,employers might ask for a skin test at least you already have papers ready. That is my reason why I went through with the test and treatment,( though the CS didn't required me )I am afraid it might be a cause for a delay on my application for job in the future.

Hang in there...you are about to end and I am still starting the treatment.

Vida Taylor

Hi Vida, just out of curiosity, are you a nurse? i'm asking bec. you were talking about "employers might ask for a skin test..." and why would you go through 9 months of treatment when you can just do away with the skin test since it was not required anyway? again, if you are a nurse, and will be working as a nurse here in the US, that would make sense.

Finally, I am reunited with my loving fiance now smile.gif . After the long visa process and 15 hours in the air, it is wonderful to be together with him again. Everything went smoothly. Flight was on time, the Immigration officers were very nice. It took me only 30 minutes to go through Immigration good.gif .

The first Immigration Officer asked me these questions:
> Why are you going to the U.S?
> What is your fiance's name
> How long have you known each other?

Then, he took my fingerprints and my photo, and instructed me to proceed to the other Immigration counter.

The second Immigration officer checked my visa packet and asked me the following questions:
> Fiance's name
> Is he divorced? Does he have any kids?
> Where did you meet him?
> Your parent's names?
> His age and your age?

He gave me back my xray CD and my passport. Then, he told me that I have 3 months to marry my fiance. Also, he wished me good luck in my marriage.

My fiance was there waiting for me wink.gif at the baggage claim area.

Philippinestraveling to the Philippines next week! about pasalubongs
QUOTE (melissa/martin @ Mar 27 2009, 05:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello guys! My husband and I are going to the Philippines next week mainly because he wanted to have his teeth done there. He needs to have a new bridge and a replacement one. It is damn expensive here in the USA and our dental insurance is not really good. Here it would cost more or less $4000 now that's a lot of money. So we decided to just do it in the Philippines and of course visit my family as well. This might be the last visit for me because we are planning to save money. Just sharing smile.gif

Now, I'm being pressured by my friends and relatives to give them 'pasalubong' -sigh- we don't really have a lot of money and if it wasn't urgent we wouldn't go to the Philippines at all. I want to tell them we have no money and trying to save as much as possible and not spend too much on this trip. I'm not planning to buy a lot of pasalubongs. Don't wanna be treated as a wealthy balikbayan because I'm not. We both are. They just don't understand how hard it is to live here. -sigh-

Just venting sad.gif

hi melissa,

sorry to hear about your "predicament". yes, it's true that guys back in the philippines think that we're wealthy because we're already "dollar earners", although the truth is far from it. I suggest you buy a special one for your mom if nothing else. chocolates for everyone is be ok, but in my book, a special pasalubong for mom and maybe your sisters/brothers might be someting to think about. Look for clearance items at Target, Ross, or walmart as suggested by other VJers here. why don't you also try thrift stores like goodwill? some stuff they have are still new sometimes (some of their items are even from Target sold at very low prices).

what I do for pasalubong is I collect stuff during summer - I go to garage sales and buy stuff that I know my family will like. I also go to thrift stores and when I see wallets, bags, etc. that are still new and inexpensive, i buy those for my "philippine pasalubong box". I also keep my eyes open for items on clearance. For "branded" items for my siters, I only buy from Ross 'coz they're cheaper. Some Victoria's Secret stuff that i will be bringing when I go back there were bought on clearance too, at like 75% off.

Anyway, God bless you on your trip back to the Philippines. Don't worry too much about it, I know your family and friends will be happy just to be with you again, pasalubong or no pasalubong. Enjoy!

hello anyone can tell me what to wear at the embassy for interview.
they said formal or business attire. so confusing. maybe someone can include some pic lol.
any suggestions ?

just wear a nice top, pants, comfortable shoes/sandals. don't be overly formal or overly casual. waer cmfy clothes as you will be standing outside for a long time and staying there most of the day.
