I have been strong in staying away from here because it tends to wind me up. But today I couldn't stand it any longer so I peeked in.

And I shouldn't have. Because so many of us are in limbo. I checked online and nada-zip-zilch. It's very upsetting to see June approvals and then seen posts like from babblesgirl about October approvals.

I'm quite depressed. Need somehow to get spirits up before I talk to the boy. He's stressed enough as it is.

I'm sorry sad.gif I have to start being more positive. Maybe this will be our week...

Don't apologize, I'm certainly not blaming you, LOL. I am mad at myself for not being stronger. wink.gif

Doesn't your fiance have 120 days to enter the US, then you must get married within the 90 days from entry?

If that's true, then that's 4 months to get here, and another month and a half to get married (leaving time for the change of status, right?).

I wouldn't do it until you have visa in hand. In the end, it's that you're both married and with each other that matters, not the venue. That's how those places make money, making the customer feel they HAVE to have the perfect wedding. smile.gif

PhilippinesCFO seminar/sticker

Hi,
Do you think SMEF-COW will allow me to have seminar, though in my passport I am still using maiden name. I am married abroad to a norwegian. I didn't do report of marriage yet to the philippine consulate.
Is there anybody same experience like me. Note: I prepared marriage certificate authenticated by Philippine consulate here.
Thanks for reply.

You are clearly exempted from attending the seminar. Posted Image

Who are exempted from attending Guidance and Counseling Services?

The following are exempt from attending the counseling program:

* Filipino spouses and other partners previously granted permanent residence status in the country of destination; or>

* Filipino spouses and other partners with permanent residence visa issued abroad.

However, you will have to register with CFO thru online registration.

How can Filipinos residing or working outside the Philippines, and holding immigrant visa or permanent residence status register with CFO? Do they need to return to the Philippines for the registration?
Filipinos residing or working outside the Philippines whose immigrant or residence visas were issued abroad may avail of the remote (on-line registration or by facsimile). Only those residing or working outside the Philippines whose immigrant or permanent residence visas are issued abroad may avail of this registration.

PhilippinesSLMC Required Docs for Medical Appt.

I have read the REQUIRED DOCUMENTS at St. lukes.

Regular Immigrants and K-Visa Applicants
Valid passport
Photocopy of Passport Biographic/Data Page, the page in the passport that contains the applicant's photo and information
3 pieces recent 2x2 visa photos (2 for submission to the U.S. Embassy, 1 for clinic file)

The US Embassy requires you to bring the 2x2 photos for your visa issuance. We regret not to release the medical report until such time that you can provide this requirement.
Appointment letter from the Embassy or Instruction letter from the National Visa Center (NVC), if available,
2 photocopies of your Appointment Letter/ Instruction Letter
Applicants are also required to provide the name, address and contact number of their petitioner in the U.S.A.

should I wait for this to be received?if yes how long should it take? Thank you!

I only presented the (printed) email interview appointment confirmation when I had my medical because I didn't wait for the appointment letter from the Embassy. SLEC accepted it. So, you'll be fine if you don't have it yet.

I found the link of the Hong Kong Police Website: http://www.police.go...t_no_crime.html

You need a letter from the US Embassy to get the police clearance. Keep the original & just send the photocopy ... which is clearly stated below.

2.What is the next step after the CFO seminar?

Please help me this is my biggest problem for now I tried to email the CFO but they didn't reply yet. O my! Some of my documents are going to expire! Thank you!

PhilippinesGoing to the USA

I am no fan of the airlines, but I do have to tell you that some passengers have way too much weight in their carry on. The flight attendants can help you accommodate the luggage, but the passenger should do the lifting of their own bags.

If you can't lift it you have no business bringing it into the aircraft.

I agree, mine was so light as I barely brought anything with me from PI. Why pay for extra baggage fee? When I could buy more clothes & stuffs here.

I'm sorry and don't take this personal, but it's Delta's fault you were fatigued? That's called jet-lag and not drinking enough water. And its all airlines policy that flight attendants can't lift peoples heavy bags. Sorry to hear about your bad experience

PhilippinesGoing to the USA

Asian Flight attendants are much younger and really courteous, while on Delta they kinda seem a lil bit old and snubbish.

I had a bad experienced with Delta, I was so over fatigued from the flight that I had to remain seated with my eyes closed even after all the passengers except another fellow filipina had already left. Despite being in such state not a single steward/ess that walked pass me ever bothered to asked me if I was okay. The other Filipina was asking the flight stewardess for assistance with her luggage that was tightly lodged on the overhead compartment. The stewardess which was in her late 40's rudely told her that she can't lift anything heavy whatsoever and she should ask someone else to help her. I was shocked!!! I felt bad for the other Filipina. I was in no shape to help her at all as I barely have the energy to stand up. I didn't even have the energy to go talk to her or anything. Posted Image

Thanks for the help and info! I'm having trouble finding much info about getting a tourist visa here in the US with the PHI Embassy though. Some people say you need to go to their office directly to get the visa, but when I look at their website or hear their recorded info on the phone concerning the visa, it doesn't mention a requirement to come to the Embassy/Consulate for an interview.

EXTENSION OF STAY
How can aliens admitted under E.O. 408 (non-visa required nationals admitted for 21 days) extend their stay in the Philippines beyond 21 days?
Aliens admitted under E.O. 408 (non-visa required nationals admitted for 21 days) may extend their stay in the Philippines beyond 21 days by applying for a visa waiver which will entitle them to an additional valid stay of 38 days. This will allow them to stay in the country for a period of 59 days.

What is the maximum extension of stay that can be granted?
Foreigners holding temporary visitors visa pursuant to Philippine Immigration Act of 1940 and aliens admitted under E.O. 408 may extend their stay in the Philippines every 2 months for a total stay of 16 months. Extension of stay after16 months, up to 24 months need the approval of the Chief of the Immigration Regulation Division. Extension of stay after 24 months need the approval of the Commissioner. I don't know how I feel about carrying all that cash on me in PHI though, it is very high risk of robbery and theft - depending on where you go of course. I know how to defend myself, but I'd rather avoid problems. I'll try to carry cash on me though and deposit it in my fiance's account though.

Do you guys know what's the best way to get a longer temporary visa to stay in the PHI? I read you cna apply for a 6 month tourist visa, but I'm not sure if it can all be done by mail, or if they will need me to travel to the closest consulate (which is NYC for me)to obtain it. That would be a hassle to have to travel all the way to NYC to get a tourist visa, but their website instructions don't mention if you have to or not?

Thanks again!

PhilippinesGood or bad idea?

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I really appreciate the different opinions because it's a tough choice.

Well, I'm not planning to come back to the US again unless I'm with her. So my plan was to go there, and wait for an NOA2 or RFE and respond to USCIS from the PHI or have my family member respond for me. My main question is, why couldn't I respond to USCIS from the PHI if I have everything they require? I think the only possible piece of evidence they might request is a "long form" birth certificate, but in my state, the kind of birth certificate I have (laminated card birth card, with a seal on the back) is the only kind of birth certificate anyone has. So other than that, I can't imagine what else they would request from me that I don't have.

So I wanted to just wait for a response from VSC, but I'm not really seeing how waiting here in the US is beneficial anymore compared to being with my love.

Bring your Tax Returns or Tax Transcripts for the past 3 yrs. Your fiancee will need that together with the Affidavit of Support & supporting documents for her interview.

Maybe you can order your "long form" certified true copy birth certificate online? They must have a copy of it in the state where you were born?

As Filipinos going abroad as fiancé(e)s, spouses or other partners of foreign nationals, you are required to attend the CFO's guidance and counseling session in order to secure the Guidance and Counseling Certificate (GCC) and theCFO sticker. You need this certificate to renew or apply for a new passport at the Department of Foreign Affairs (per Department of Foreign Affairs Order Nos. 11-97 Implementing Rules and Regulations for Republic Act 8239, "Philippine Passport Act" and 28-94). You will also need to present this certificate together with your spouse/partner visa, at the Immigration office at the international airport on your day of departure.

LBC is expensive. We use ALAS and gets there fast and never had a problem.. Make sure you use a lot of tape. When we send them for my wife's family I tape the top and bottom so much you can't see the box. These boxes get thrown around so more tape is better.

For a few years LBC's standard box 24 X 18 X 18 was $65. They have reduced it down to $60 now. They don't offer the jumbo size at all. For that price it sure is a heck of a good deal to me. For Mindanao delivery it takes up to 55 days but most of the time it gets to my parents house on the 45th day. Actually the counting starts when they load them up in the container. That's what I was told. I have not tried any other shipping companies so my experience is solely with that of LBC. Posted Image

Instant Noodles (Sapporo Ichiban of course)
Spam
Corned Beef
Pantene Shampoo (Damn had to be the expensive stuff)
Pantene Conditioner (see Damn comment right above)
Lotion
Candies
Smoked Sausages
Tabasco

Tooth Paste

Here's what I may get thanks to some suggestions here on VJ and from some friends...

School Supplies
Rice
Coffee
Creamer
Cookies
Cereal

Any more suggestions are welcomed. My box is about half filled, and for $55 I want to stuff the ####### out of this box.

FYI, I use Forex to ship to the Philippines. LBC is also available, but I don't like the fact I have to bring my stuff to their location and fill the box there. Forex will even pick up my box at my home.

That's kinda a bummer that the LBC there won't do pick-up. Where I'm from they do pick- up. We didn't avail of it until recently when they closed the one that was close to our house. They relocated near the PDX airport so it was a lot convenient that we didn't have to drive all the way there to drop off the box.

Maybe add towels. It'll serve as an added padding for your other items.

PhilippinesDS-157 Questions

My fiancee has a masters degree in Soil and Water Management. I have a few questions relating to the U.S. Department of State Form DS-157: Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application:

1. #9: List all countries you have entered in the last ten years. (Give the year of each visit): My fiancee went to Thailand for a conference. Will my fiancee be ok with the Consulate? or will she be flagged? Just write Thailand. She may or may not be asked what was the purpose of going to that country.

2. #13: List all professional, social and charitable organizations to which you belong (belonged) or contribute (contributed) or with which you work (have worked): Should she list all the universities she worked for? She is also a member of several professional organizations. Should she just attach her resume? I don't think all of that information will fit in the space #13. I am wondering if you can give some insight what is #13 for so we can cater to the question. If the space is not enough she can write "See attachment" on that space. Have her type all the organizations in another bond paper. Indicate MNL number & date on the upper right side. I think there is another form that asks for previous or present employment/s.

3. #14: Do you have any specialized skills or training, including firearms, explosives, nuclear, biological, or chemical experience? As I mentioned, she has a masters degree. Should indicate that in the question? I don't know the answer to this.

4. #17: List all education institutions you attend or have attended. Include vocational institutions but not elementary schools: I assume that high school should be included. Am I correct? You are correct high school is included.

Thank you for your help. :bonk:

PhilippinesDS-156 Questions

I am filling out the DS-156 application: Nonimmigrant Visa Application. I have several questions since some of them are confusing. Again some of them may be stupid questions, but I have to confirm to keep the nerves at bay.

1. #22: When Do You Intend To Arrive in The U.S.? I don't have a specific date yet since this process is long. Can I just put November 30, 2012? That's the anticipated time frame. Is that ok? What I did I used a pen & wrote "Once I get my visa"

2. #26: How Long Do You Intend To Stay in the U.S? - It is a Fiancee visa. What's an appropriate answer to write? I was about to say "Duh! Forever!" lolz I don't think that's appropriate. :bonk: You can answer "Forever"

3. #27: What is the Purpose of Your Trip? - I intend to marry my fiance, ....., within 90 days of my arrival. Is that ok? That answer will do.

4. #32: Do you Intend to Work in the U.S? (If YES, give the name and complete address of U.S. employer) - My fiancee intends to work, but does not have an employer yet. Is that ok? Yes, that answer is okay.

5. #33: Do You Intend to Study in the U.S? - My fiancee intends to study, but has not identified a school yet. I hope that answer suffices. That answer will do.

6 #40: You may have guess, but I am preparing this for my fiancee. I am that OCD and nervous. Do I have to really indicate that I prepared this application? If yes, this means I have to sign it and send it to her???? Let her sign it.

Thanks for your help!

PhilippinesFiance is 23--do we need to notarize or even have parent consent?
CFO counselors are known to have asked documents that weren't mentioned on their website.

But it does mention in Number 4 for their requirements for the Guidance & Counseling Program.
http://www.cfo.gov.p...onals&catid=140
4. Other documents as may be required by the counselors; and

They should update their site as to what sort of documents one is expected to bring.

PhilippinesBringing baby to the Philippines Embassy NY

I don't know that I would bother getting a passport for the daughter, even with dual citizenship the USA requires her to travel using the US passport, not sure of the benefit of having a Philippine passport.

I'm only stating the fact that it can be done while they're there. It is up to the couple if they deemed it necessary to get their daughter the Philippine passport.Posted Image

Do you have plans in getting your daughter a Philippine passport? If so, you can apply for it that same day.
