PhilippinesIR-5 both parents get interview individually or together?

Hi to the all. My parents are now in SLEC for the result of my Dad's sputum smear. Thank God it's negative. My Mom was cleared already, got her shots and now waiting in the Releasing Section when I was talking to her a few minutes ago. Dad's sputum culture result is not available not til July 6. I'm still waiting for a case complete and most probably get a 1st week of July interview dates for both parents. Are they gonna interview them together or individually? If ever we get a really early interview date, will Mom should go ahead with the interview? and Dad will follow after he is cleared in his medical? (They will go to the US at the same time.) Or there is still a possibility that they will be interviewed together? I plan on calling SLEC last week of June hoping they have the result by then. Fingers crossed...

I think it's better that your parents have the same interview appointment. If by chance  NVC schedules your parents interview before your dad is cleared with his medical,  You can reschedule their interview. Register in ustraveldocs site & you will  see the available interview dates. That's what I did. My parents couldn't make it to the interview date (April 4th) that NVC has scheduled, so I rescheduled it a month away (May 2nd).

PhilippinesSLEC sputum?

How much time they usually spend in slec for sputum collection? Are they out of the building around 10am? What hotel are they staying in? We used hotel soriente for their 2-day check up. According to my sister, it wasnt that nice in there so i'm thinking to go to city garden suite.

My parents stayed in Casa Bogobo. Nothing fancy. But it is a 2 min walk to SLEC. I booked them through Asiatravel site. They have 12% to 25 % discount from April to Dec for some rooms. It is way cheaper to booked through travel/hotel booking sites compared to directly booking them from the hotel website.

PhilippinesReporting marriage and name change in the US

Hi, I am a K-1 visa holder and my flight is in March. We are getting married in April.

1. Does taking my husband's surname/hyphenating come automatically with marriage or do I need to file for a name change?
2. Do we file for AOS under my married or maiden name?
3. Is it advisable to wait until we get married before filing for SSN so I can do it in my married name, or do I file for it ASAP under my maiden name?
4. What do I need to do to report my marriage and name change to the Philippines? Do they issue me a new passport with my married name?

1. When you fill up the marriage license you can put your husband's surname as your married name.
2. You file for AOS using your married name.
3. I applied for SSN 14 days after arriving here in the states. I used my maiden name & just went back when I received my GC. It wasn't a hassle at all in going back to change the name. Took about less than 10 mins. The SSN card in my married name arrived in the mail 2 weeks later.
4. This is the link of Philippine embassy/ consulate in USA: http://www.philippin...late-finder-dc/
You will file Report of Marriage Contracted Abroad.
You will apply for new passport due to Change in Name. http://www.philippin...-dc/#changename

PhilippinesI-864 package to interview

Does anyone know if the USEM in Manila requires the benficiary to bring a copy of the I-864 packet with them to the interview, shouldn't they already have it on hand from the NVC?

Thanks in advance,

My parents  had their IR-5 interview yesterday & USEM didn't ask for I-864 AOS & supporting documents. No other civil documents were asked either.

http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3217.html

The I-864 AOS is NOW VALID INDEFINITELY ONCE IT HAS BEEN SIGNED (this is a change from the previous requirement of being valid for one year). In other words, applicants will no longer need to submit a new I-864 AOS or new tax forms due to long processing delays between the date of the signature of the I-864 AOS and the date of the interview.

PhilippinesCEAC STATUS: Ready...What does it mean?

I had my interview on March 26,2013 and was given 221g...Submitted the required documents after a week.
When I checked my case status today... it's not under Administrative Processing anymore. What does the word READY mean? should I expect our visa to arrive?   Thanks

What was the content of the update? My parents status also is READY, but the content is all about the case being ready for interview. I think yours is the same. That it is nothing to do with the visa being ready/issued/printed.

PhilippinesCheap way to ship from USA to Manila

Hello!

It is Christmas time and I am about to ship gifts to my in-laws in Pateros, Manila. In the past I have used USPS and UPS. I don't trust USPS because my letters never got to the address. So, UPS has been very reliable and cheaper than the other shippers FEDEX, etc..., but still costly. I found out I can ship packages through my company's corporate account at a 1/3 of the normal shipping charges. Approx $8-10/ lb! I going to ship my stepson christmas gifts by UPS which should run me under $100 but I have more items I need to ship the weight is around 70 lbs total. I don't have the extra money to ship the rest of the items UPS plus running the risk of getting dinged on duty charges too! The last 2 shipments costed my in-laws $50 and 125 USD in duty tax. :wow: Speed is not an issue for the 70 lbs worth of items, I just want a very cheap and reliable way to get the rest of the items to my in-laws. Any suggestions? :help:

Thanks and Happy Holidays and Merry-Xmas to all! :D

Michael

PhilippinesPhilippine Travel Tax - Pay every time you leave?

Yes she would have to pay the travel tax. She should apply for her US Citizenship if she's been in the US for 3 years that way she won't have to pay the travel tax next time she goes back smile.png I believe its like 1k+ pesos for the travel tax and 550pesos for terminal fee.

That's not true! Green card holders are EXEMPTED  from paying the Travel Tax if their stay is less than a year in the Philippines. Refer to the link: http://www.tieza.com...ts-required.php

True, if she is a naturalized US citizen, she won't pay Travel tax.

EVERYONE has to pay the Terminal Fee.

How much is the travel tax? And is that the same as the terminal fee?

Travel Tax Fee is PHP 1,620 http://www.philippin...travel-tax.html

Terminal Fee is PHP 550 . No it is not the same. It is for the airport terminal.

PhilippinesVonage to Philippines...

Anyone here using Vonage to call the Philippines? Yesterday when I was at the local Filipino grocery store in my area, Vonage was set up near the entryway, and now for the $30 a month charge, they are including unlimited calls to Globe/TM, land or mobile, in the Philippines.

This might be a perfect solution, if the call quality is good. I'm using Ooma, and I have to pay a per minute charge, AND the quality is pretty crappy, lots of dropped calls, calls that never connect, etc.

Just looking for anyone using Vonage.

And yes, I know about Magic Jack, I'm looking for a solution so that my fiancé, who arrives tomorrow, could call back home to a variety of people, her siblings, friends, etc, most of whom don't have computers at home for something like Skype.

We've been using Vonage for 2 yrs now. It serves it's purpose of having a basic phone at home. The $30+ monthly bill sure beats that of the AT&T $60+. I will rate it as kinda "okay" service though. There were instances when making international calls were the quality is choppy/ not good and sometimes you don't hear each other. Local calls are good. Anyway, we barely use the phone so no big deal. Posted Image

PhilippinesMedical in 1-3 days, then Interview on the 4th day!

I was able to finally get an interview appt for thursday Oct 18. I'm allowing medical for Oct 15-17 (3) days. That should be enough time for my fiancee and her 10 yr old daughter, right? I've read on some previous posts that medical was completed in 1 day. Thanks for any replies. God bless.

It's better that your fiancee & her daughter have their medical exam within next week. That will be enough time for the medical results to be forwarded to the USEM before their interview. I've heard that mondays & fridays are busy days, so maybe have them do it on wednesday & thursday. Posted Image

Wouldn't the birth certificate accepted as a second ID in addition to the passport? How many IDs do they need lol?

As what the other poster have posted, a birth certificate is not a valid photo ID.  A birth certificate is a supporting document if one has to apply for a photo ID.

There are instances when the Filipina/Filipino don't have ID's aside from the passport. So an NBI will be accepted as another ID. They want to see the original NBI & will ask for a photocopy only.

In my experience, I only got 2 NSO birth certificates. One for my K-1 interview & one for my own record. For all my immigration paper works from AOS upto citizenship,  I got by with just sending photocopies of my birth certificate & never had a problem doing so. The only time I needed  2 more certified copies of BC was when I decided to petition for my parents which we didn't really originally plan in doing.

But if your girl wants to have multiple copies of her BC then that's fine.

PhilippinesPulmonary Treatment outside St lukes
I think that if one has the 6 month treatment in another hospital/clinic, this will be accepted by St Luke so long as the applicant will come back & pay the medical fee again. As I understand it, if the 6 month treatment is in St Luke then after it is completed the applicant he/she is not required to pay the said fee once again.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

PhilippinesPassed Immigrant Visa Interview (F2A)

it will be my interview this May 14, 2013 and Im really anxious on what will going to be the result?

I worked in saudi last 2008 until 2010, if they will asked me if i worked abroad shall I say yes? i dont have any police clearance from saudi.. will they be asking that?

Found this from  travel state site:

Police Records

Police clearances are available for Saudi citizens and resident third country nationals. Saudi citizens currently residing overseas must return in person to process the police clearance.

Saudi citizens and third country nationals residing in the Kingdom process the police clearances by first obtaining a police clearance request letter from U.S. Embassy Riyadh, U.S. Consulate General Jeddah, or U.S. Consulate General Dhahran. This police clearance request letter, signed by a consular officer, must be attested by the Saudi Ministry of Affairs (current fee is SR30). The applicant must then appear personally with a passport-sized photograph and a national ID or residency permit at the regional Criminal Investigation Department for fingerprinting. Fingerprinting for women is done in a separate room. The police clearance should be available for collection after a week or two.

Police clearances are available for Saudi nationals residing outside of the Kingdom. The expatriate Saudi citizen obtains the police clearance by returning to the Kingdom and obtaining a police clearance request letter from U.S. Embassy Riyadh, U.S. Consulate General Jeddah, or U.S. Consulate General Dhahran. This police clearance request letter, signed by a consular officer, must be attested by the Saudi Ministry of Affairs (current fee is SR30). The applicant must then appear personally with the attested police clearance request letter, a passport-sized photograph and a national ID at the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for fingerprinting. Fingerprinting for women is done in a separate room. The police clearance should be available for collection after a week or two.

Police clearances are unavailable for third country nationals who no longer reside in the Kingdom.

The optimal time to conduct these procedures at the police stations is 10:00 Saturdays-Wednesdays.

I'm still rather in shock, honestly.

Funny, but is true: it is as if USCIS was waiting in the bushes watching for the best time to surprise me. As I coincidentally just noticed someone else say in another post, I was oddly down the last few days that so many other petitions after mine were being approved. I literally told myself that I would stop my obsessive checking of email and the USCIS website today for status to try to shake the depression.

So all day I try to put it out of my mind and didn't check these things like I normally do at work many many times a day. wink.gif

I get home and check my email... and the approval had snuck up on me.

My fiancée was born and raised in the "city of smiles", Bacolod City. Bacolod City is located in the province of Negros Occidental, on the island of Negros, in the Visayas.

I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, in the great pacific northwest. I live in a pedestrian-friendly inner-city neighborhood...not too far from the University of Washington and the University Medical Center. Within six blocks of our home you will find a major grocery store, many shops of all types, two movie theaters, countless ethnic restaurants, numerous coffee shops, a post office, and more. Two things that we don't have in our neighborhood are a Filipino grocery store and a Filipino restaurant. If we want to eat at a Filipino restaurant or shop for Filipino food, we will need to go across town.

I have spent a little time living in the Iloilo/Bacolod area in the early 70s. And I remember those days when I have to take the Negros Navigation ferry between the two cities. Very idyllic, the ferry ride was! I wonder if your fiancee knows the Javellana family, who were my friends in Iloilo and Negros and were prominent sugar cane planters during that era. I also fell in love with a girl belonging to the Ledesma/Montinola clan. Sad to say, it did not last as my employer had to transfer me to Davao City. My heart was down, my head was turnin' around, I had to leave my girl in Jaro town! (With apologies to Harry Belafonte.)

Ah, Seattle, Wash., lovely place indeed! I like it, except that it probably rains too much and my arthritis worsens when the rain goes on and on. My job requires me to visit Seattle every now and then. I always stay at a hotel in Kirkland by Yarrow Point and as I drive on the floating bridge over Lake Washington, my heart quivers at the beauty and the greenery of the landscape. Water, water everywhere! You mentioned the University of Washington, the football stadium is quite a site from the bridge and the 520. I wonder if you live close to 45th Street, by the Safeco Tower.

Yep...Seattle is very wet, and that is what makes it so green. I love the moderate climate in this area and I hope my fiancée will get used to it and grow to enjoy it like I do.

We live near the Safeco Building in the U District, and I am familiar with Kirkland and Yarrow Point areas. Imagine the view of Lake Washington and the floating bridge from inside Husky Stadium! Many people cruise to the football games by boat. Also, when crossing either floating bridge on a clear day, there is a fabulous view of 14,410-foot Mt. Rainier.

I would love to have seen Bacolod in the 1970's! I will check with my fiancée to find out if she is familiar with the clans that you mentioned. Her family has lived in the area for generations. We will PM you with any details.
