Middle East and North AfricaWHO PAYS FOR ALL THE PLANE TICKETS

Just a quick question for all the American women, did you pay for your plane ticket over to see your love, or did he pay for you? I understand they are from poor countries, but I am not that rich either, and not a sugar mama. Just really interested, because I have a husband in Egypt, whom I never talked to, but I paid for the plane ticket to see him and now i am paying all of this off working myself to an early grave. I guess I am a little old fashion and would like the man to take care of some of this, but maybe that is not the way things work. So please share with me who pays for what and did you feel kinda of mad if you have to pay all the bills, is it almost like buying a husband. That is how i feel now.

Sherry,
how is it that you never talked to your husband? I find that strange, I sure enough wouldn't be flipping the bill for someone I've never talked to. As for my husband, of course I paid for the plane tickets there and the visa cost. Unless they're from a rich family, they won't be able to buy the ticket and it can't really be expected. My husbands salary was like 10 dollars a week. Now that he is here, he's working and providing, what more can I ask. I never saw myself as a sugar mama, just doing what was necessary for us to be together. If this was buying a husband, I bought myself a nice one! :P

Don't call the operator too much. The automated, as often as you want.

I usually talked to the operator when there was:

- A change in the case status
- A document I sent in, about 1-1.5 weeks AFTER I sent it in.

Make SURE when you speak to an operator that you're -

- concise
- as polite as possible
- Make sure you tell them "Thanks for your help" when you're finished.

Do not say a single rude word to them, or be impatient with them - they're only there to help you.

They, potentially, can hold your case in their hands. If you leave a good impression ... occasionally, you may get a surprise. smile.gif

Sometimes, it pays to be nice.

How on earth will we know there's a change in case status if we don't call. That's the REASON we are calling...to see if there's a change in our status. wacko.gif Are you talking about calling USCIS or DOS or NVC?

When I called DOS during our process, the operator even told me call whenever you want. What documents are you sending in to DOS???

How has the geography of religion evolved over the centuries, and where has it sparked wars? Our map gives us a brief history of the world's most well-known religions: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism. Selected periods of inter-religious bloodshed are also highlighted. OK, here are some general issues which I have heard of people encountering or have had experienced myself or discussed myself:

1. Dress-- to cover up or not!
2. Friends of opposite sex, touching opposite sex, emailing/calling opposite sex
3. attitudes about morality-- this can come up about homosexuality, watching movies, etc which have these subjects
4. cleaning/household maintenance
5. pets
6. religious tensions including icons
7. familial relations-- i know my husband makes sure i call my family several times a week which i normally did anyway, but some may not be used to this

Anyway, these are some of the things that I have heard about or had to deal with or talk about in my own relationship.

My husband and I had discussed many of the above subjects before he came. Lucky for us, he hasn't changed much from his previous views. I do have friends of the opposite sex, and he doesn't mind as long as we don't get too chummy and he is included, which I don't have a problem with at all.
One of my best friends is a homosexual, and I knew Hassan had a little trouble with that, but he's always handled himself in a respectful manner towards him, and even put forth effort to include him in our lives. When I'm working he helps me with the household, although he prefers not to. We have cats that come into the house...so no problem there. I think communication is really important before the guys arrive, as a matter of fact, before you make any serious committments as in marriage or filing papers for someone. Of course it's always a little different from the way it was discussed before, there are things I thought wouldn't bother me, and I'm sure that goes for him as well, that turned out to be somewhat of a problem later, nothing serious but little things....so if you're in a relationship like this, both of you have to be flexible in my opinion.

Hi! I'm new to the MENA forum ...my husband is from Syria and came on the K1 visa December 07. We got married in January 08, and filed AOS paperwork end of Feb. Just had his Biometrics appointment on 4/19, and was wondering how long it usually takes for the EAD card to come??
Also, can anyone tell us where there are any groups for Arabs to get together? He's getting lonely and needs friends.. unsure.gif

We made it! Another week behind us. A new week ahead.

There has been so much good news on the forum. I hope it continues and picks up even more next week. I also wish allergy season would come to a close. *sneezes*

Hey everybody. Well I am moved, my house is back in order. Alhamdullilah. I have some great news. My Hachemi is coming home. :dancing:  He is booked on a RAM flight for August 12th. He has to fly to Casa from Algiers the day before. Then the next day he leaves for NY. He will arrive at 3:40pm. At 7:29pm he will leave JFK for Atlanta. At 10pm he will leave Atlanta and arrive in Jackson Mississippi at 11pm. I can not beleive it. It is finally happening.

Jean, I like that email. Sounds like they are trying to reassure you that he is getting the visa soon. I am praying for you guys that are still waiting.
