Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionSS card and new driver's license with temp Green card

I then went to the DMV and they issued me a license without any problems. The only thing is that the expiration date on the driver's license is the same as the expiration date on the 2 year GC.

Is it different from state to state or our DMV made a mistake ? My wife's driver's license is valid for 6 years - way longer than her conditional GC. We are in Indiana.

In Oregon you don't have to provide a Social Security card or a green card, as long as you have 3 alternate ID that they accept. Lucky for us!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionInvalid Receipt number

We recieved our NOA1 for the I751 and a letter stateing they are goning to set the biometrics apt date. We have not recieved a letter giving us the date. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to set the biometrics date after recieving your noa1? We are using TSC and the Oklahoma City office. Also, I went online to check our status and the reciept number that came with the NOA came up invalid? Is this usual?
Thanks

We filed for AOS and EAD and I received NOA1 and went to check my receipt numbers, and they were in valid, a few days later they went through....maybe they haven't updated their system yet.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI think I did a mistake on the form....

Okay...

....just in case anyone were asking that too...

Just now, I've just asked this to an immigration laywer in another forum...and I was lucky enough to get a reply....

she answered: "...You did not have to list your US citizen husband's children on your
I-751 petition, as they are not applying for any immigration benefits with you."....

so I think, my application should be alright....

cheers,
Meredith

Thanks that's good to know!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussioni751 filed with waiver,3 mnths 10yr green card in hand
QUOTE (mamatom @ Feb 12 2009, 07:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Thanks to all I have read and viewed up here, I am finally free from immigration at least until citizenship. I got my physical green card today in the mail, after 3 months of filing I 751 with a waiver, 1 rfe and no interviews, got approved and have my card on hand.
I married my USC husband in August of 2007, divorced finalized in august of last year, trust me, I went through hell, treid all he could to make me leave, but God was on my side.Friends and evidences made it worth the while, and of course my 13 pages personal letter included in my package. I was ready for the worst but I prayed over my apckage before sending it in. and its all over, my story is a long one, but one thing I have to say here is,people assume all relationship are not genuine, but some are and most american spouses take advantage of us non citizen and think they can suceed, not all the case. I had 2 judges testify on my behalf, and wrote affidavits for me, to all they witnessed, my story is long, but I am FREE from all.
Seattle office is a great place for immigration, fast service.
I filed all the papers myself,no assistant from anyone or lawyers. got my conditional green card in march of 2008, and now exactly 1 year later got the 10 year greencard through waiver. I was scared but placed my hopes in God.
I wish everyone luck in all they are going through, its hard and stressful, but the only thing you can do is get on with life and pray, whatever will be,will be, if anyone needs help on what ever issues I will gladly be here to answer all questions.

Congrats! For the GC and overcoming all these obstacles!

QUOTE (irfan @ Feb 27 2009, 07:45 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
All
As far i know USCIS is not going to notify if your removal of conditon is due soon.
Yesterday i received a letter from VCS for my wife that said she is a conditional resident since 6/19/2007 and the letter is to remind us to remove conditions before it expires. I was very surprised to see this and wanted to share with all of you. Maybe this is something new they have started.
Anyway my question is i believe since the expiration date on her GC is 6/19/09 we can apply for removal of condition after 3/19/09. The reason i want to apply as soon as possible because we have an overseas trip in May/June and will be back in US by 7th of June 2009. Do you guys think we will be ok? I mean to my thinking we should get the extension letter and finger prints done within a month before we leave 21st May09. Please respond. Thanks

Ifan we got the same letter, they are now sending reminder letters. I think you should apply 90 days before, you probably will be able to get your extension letter in time.

I had a nice surprise in the mailbox this afternoon. I finally received my Approval Notice for the I-751 I submitted a little over two months ago. It took CSC approximately 67 days to approve my petition. I never received an NOA1; just a biometrics letter and no touches on the USCIS website. Now just waiting for the Green Card. kicking.gif God luck to everyone still waiting for theirs.

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionahhhhh I receive letter to attend interview
QUOTE (motu @ Apr 27 2009, 10:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Precisely - you did not have enough proof of co-mingled lives and so they want to interview you to make sure that your application is legit. The interview should be fairly easy as long as you have a legitimate relationship and can answer their questions. To me it doesn't make sense when people do not file taxes together - I will need to look at their tax situation to see why they can't - I was a tax professional for 20+ years and this argument to me is never correct especially when you know that this is a primary proof in this process; so an attempt to file taxes individually for a small financial gain (if it's really true) is not worth doing in my opinion. What does Married but filing separately mean - "Well we are married but are living separate lives!" Not worth it in my opinion. God Luck

Filing separately may not only be for financial gain, but also for the protection of the immigrant, who is supposed to file a sailing permit at the time they want to leave the country, showing that their taxes are all paid. Would you expect your spouse to be unable to travel out of the US until this tax debt is taken care of? Also citizenship cannot be attained with any tax debt on file. We filed separately and it wasn't an issue and we certainly do not live separate lives.

All,

Up untill today i had not been able to check the status of my application online so this morning i just wanted to go through the ritual/motions of trying to check it again and boom!!!!!!!, it just showed that "current status card production ordered". Mind you i had never been able to check the status online.
Now some people are going to be mad here i know and i do sympathise with them, i do believe that applications should be processed on first come first serve basis, its only fair it should be done that way.

My timeline is as follows.

Application filed November 16 2008 to VSC
Application Recieved November 17 2008
NOA Dated November 19th 2008
Recieved Biometrics appointment Letter December 2 2008
Went for biometrics appointment December 18th 2008
CARD PRODUCTION ORDERED APRIL 22nd 2009

I wasnt expecting anything untill sometime in August/September, though i was being a little optimistic for late July/early August, this came out of the blue from no where. Fot those with timelines close to mine please be checking your status online regularly even if its now showing up now, it could someday inexplicably.

Congrats!!! kicking.gif

Get the 10 year GC in hand before going anywhere.
After that she can go work abroad. Main thing is NOT to show signs she'll give up her permanent residency. Excessive time abroad will "cut into" the time required to apply for US citizenship.
Obviously it's best to wait for US citizenship.

I second this...you are only a year from citizenship. I would wait for it. Does what you need to in the meantime to make ends meet.

Canadathings you can't bring into the consulate

Don't take anything you do not need. That said: I had a few very small items and there is a cubicle about 4"x4" and if the item could fit in the cubicle, they took it from me and gave me a receipt for pick-up when I left the embassy. I had a binder and my purse which they searched. They didn't like my Cliff bar but when I explained that I needed it for my blood sugar they reluctantly were okay with it, they didn't like dental floss or my memory sticks. Oops, I thought I was okay but who would have known about these things? So, don't take it if you don't need it. No cell phones for sure. No big bags you will be sent away.
Good luck

Thanks! I guess I should really just bring my folder in an open tote bag and have my wallet in my jacket or whatever.

Canadathings you can't bring into the consulate

Leave at ur hotel room. With hotel front desk staff. There was a place close to the consulate that had lockers for rent that many used. Can't recall the name of it, or exactly where it was located. maybe some will chip in, or may be found by doing a search. best of luck

Yes if u do a search---Montreal lockers....You will find the info.

Thanks! I actually live in Montreal, but in the suburbs, so I just wanted to clear this up so I'd know if I had to leave my stuff at home.

Do not bring anything but your papers to the consul.
You will not even be let through the doors if you have anything electronic or otherwise.

Thanks!

Canadathings you can't bring into the consulate
For anyone who's done their interview in Montreal already: I know we can't have cell phones, ipods, or apparently "large purses" at our interview, but is there a place to leave those things before you take the elevator? Or am I arriving at the consulate itself with only a plastic/tote bag containing my papers?

CanadaBank accounts in Canada

I don't know if this helps at all but I chose to make my Mom power of attorney for my bank account so I can figure out what I want to do with my money/bank account once I've moved to the US.

All of my tax refunds/HST credit/Visa money back go into my account so it'd be a pain in the butt to close it.

If you have someone you trust with your money it might make sense to do the same so you can decide later.

This sounds like a good idea. I've also been trying to figure out how to handle my account, and this seems like a viable option.
