my k1 is taking me, like sam says, middle of nowhere, virginia XD i have nooooooo idea what ill do there. ive lived all my life in a big crowded city and ill be moving in the country, that will be a bit weird for me. but its good that is quiet and i suppose it will be a bit easier to get used to the change/ ive never been to america before either

That is a pretty big change. At least you'll have a lot of exploring to do! If you have a camera, you could take pictures while you're getting to know the town and then make a blog for your friends and family to follow. I did that while I was visiting Portland and my friends really enjoyed it.

Central Jersey,45 minutes from Manhattan :) I like that It's well connected and fairly near to important cities like Phili,New York,Princeton and Atlantic City, and It's definitely the garden state...parks everywhere and being a trail running lover that's paradise for me.

I'd love to visit Oregon one day,I know It's truly beatiful there :)

Wow, lucky to be so close to NYC! And in a place with so many parks, that's great.

Oregon really is worth a visit. Portland is such a cool city, and only a 2-hour drive from the ocean! If you ever find yourself there, you know who to contact... :P

Hi neighbor! :D My K1 is taking me to Seattle, Washington. I love the landscape there, the sea, the mountains...just beautiful!

Yay west coast! We actually visited Seattle in February for a couple of days. There was one gorgeous sunny day (wasn't expecting that since I think Seattle is even rainier than Portland) and we got some nice pictures at the Gas Works Park- have you been?

Lol, never heard of a theater serving beer, that's awesome!

My K1 is taking me to Branson Missouri... the live show capitol of the world! Missouri is really pretty and Branson sits right in the Ozarks, so there's pretty scenery outside every view. There's a home there that we went through when I was there in the fall, and if it's still available when I move, we're gonna put an offer in, it's the kind of home I've always dreamed about, him too, so really hoping it's still there! He's an aquatics directer at a resort there, so my son is gonna love that part of it, as well as going through all the attractions. Last time I went through the wax museum, Ripley's believe it or not, a haunted house, and a bunch more. They have the Titanic there as well, the whole building looks like the ship! There's also Silver Dollar City, which I guess is like Canada's Wonderland. They have a great shopping area called Branson Landing, all the streets are closed to traffic, and paved with brick, and it's shop after shop and restaurants. (they have a Joe's Crab Shack, which I love and we don't have them here, so looking forward to sharing that with my family when they come for my wedding... think we'll do the rehearsal dinner there!) The Stone Hill Winery has great wines, I really like the Norton, so I already know what wine to serve if we get our dream home, and have the wedding there. The only things I'm worried about in Branson is the job situation, as I work in health care and they're mainly hospitality and service based there, and the school situation... think I'm gonna start a thread about the schools in the US so I can understand the system a little better...

Sounds like a great place! I hope you get that dream home as well as a job in your field. After a long wait and a big move, we all deserve good things!

Mine is taking me to Ridgeley, West Virginia.. I never been there because was denied in a tourist visa twice, so I could never go there to visit and meet my in-laws. But what I like the most about there is the fact that looks like where I live in Brazil, and the friends I already have there.. plus an amazing family my fiancé has. :)

Denied twice?! That really sucks. At least once this is all over you're there for good! And it's great that you have people you like waiting for you there :)

Something else to get us talkin'!

Which US city is your fiance(e) living in? What do you like about it?

My K1 is taking me to Portland, Oregon. I visited for a week last May, and then spent a few months there this winter, so I got to know it a bit better. It seems like a great place to live. People there are really friendly. The downtown area isn't too big or too small- perfect for getting used to. There are lots of cool places to eat/drink/hang out. There's a lot of great stuff to do outdoors, too, like taking walks in the state parks (the Pacific Northwest is so green!). The apartment I'll be living in is super close to a movie theater that serves beer, which to me is fantastic :P

its really nice when i see people convinced they found their soulmates :) it seems we're the first to give up in here. i hope he will stop the visa process too since i dont think this will work out anymore. when a guy tells his fiancee "#### you, im tired of you" doesnt sound that good to me. maybe is time for me to back off and give him space for some real life. he spent his live enough on internet and probably he wasnt ready for a family. we're 21 after all. i dont really know what to do from now on. im so lost

That's really frustrating, I'm sorry things are going badly for you

Do you guys talk every day? I don't know your situation, but maybe if you agreed to take some time to cool off, like a week, you could meet on skype at the end of that period and see how you both feel. "#### you" is definitely an awful thing to hear from the person you love and they shouldn't be talking to you that way. But usually when someone who loves you uses words like that, it's because they're speaking in the heat of their anger/frustration and would not be talking that way if they were being calm and rational. I've definitely said some stupid things to my boyfriend when I was pissed at him, trying to make him feel bad because I was angry, and later apologized for it.

This whole immigration process is so hard when it comes to having enough "space". It feels like you have too much space because you never get to see the other person, but at the same time you're trying to communicate with them as much as you can, so you're pretty much tied to them and the whole visa process. It's like being stuck and lost at the same time. Sorry if I'm being depressing

I just hope everything works out for you guys. Being long-distance can do weird things to a relationship. If you feel like breaking up would be the best thing for both of you, then maybe it needs to happen, after you've both talked about how you feel. But if you think you guys would be together if there was no distance, it's probably worth taking some time to try and figure out how you can get back on the same page.

Oooh, I want to share how we met too! It's corny but I love it.

We met on a dating site. I wasn't finding anyone interesting in my city and would sometimes click on this Global Matches button it had, just for fun. One time I came across his profile and thought it was super funny and unique. I figured 'hey, why not write to him? We'll probably exchange a few messages and that'll be it.' So my jokey first message was "your profile is hilarious. will you marry me?" Little did we know... :P

Okay, I KNOW it's no fun to be in a long distance relationship, and that there's no reason to romanticize it and make it out to be something that it's not. I also know that the little things that most people take for granted are exactly the kind of normalcy that we crave when we are apart, but there ARE things you can do when you're apart to make it more romantic, and fun.

So get creative, and share on here the things you do to make it as romantic as possible while you are apart, I'm sure we all have some great ideas.

It's true that there's a lot you can do. My boyfriend and I have two shows (30 Rock and Parks & Rec, I hiiiighly recommend them!) that we watch together- video chat on one side of the screen, downloaded show on the other.
He's at computer all day at his job, but sites like gmail and facebook are blocked. Blogger isn't, so we set up a blog that we can use to send each other little messages and photos during the day. It's great to log on and see if there's anything waiting for me! Plus when you see all the posts lined up by month, it really makes it look like time is flying by.

Good luck to all you other May filers! smile.gif xoxoxo

hmm.. i am not sure if they are the ones who give you the medical exam schedule in your region.. but i know for a fact that here in the Philippines, you SHOULD have to have your medical exam at least A WEEK BEFORE your interview. let me know if it's the same for you. because they need time to send the medical exam results to the embassy .. and they ask this from us so that should anything go wrong during the medical exam, you still have time to set things right before your interview date.

good luck.

Canadians can get the medical after the interview if it just ends up happening that way.
We just get RFE'd for it and then we just send it to them and they finish processing the visa.

Yup, like Rhiann said, Canadians can get the medical the day before (or after) the interview. I definitely think that I have everything in order, and I'm positive about everything. I'm getting my medical done at Woking Clinic in Vancouver, and they give the results that very day, so I'm definitely lucky in that regard! smile.gif

Once you enter on K-1 you have 90 days in which to marry, if you don't and you go back home, then that's the end of it. If you do marry, presumably you are still within the 90 day window. Now you file for AOS, once you do this, this grey area period of time in between filing and approval/receipt of green card is considered an period of extended stay authorized by the attorney general. Once you receive conditional GC you are a legal permanent resident. You must renew your card at one year and 9 months from the date on your card by filing for removal of conditions. once you receive your green card you are now legal permanent resident and this card is good for 10 years.

If you wish to file for citizenship you may do so at 2 years 9 months from the date of issue of your original green card. If you do not wish you become a citizen, you must then renew your green card every 10 years sending forms in 3 months prior to expiration.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWe got a RFE (K1 November filler - Vermont)

hi every one i just want ask about when i sent RFE to the USCIS
HOW MUCH TIME IT TAKES TO GET NOA2?
BECOUSE I'M SO DISAPPOINTED :(

USCIS says 60 days, HOWEVER, I received e-mail RFE notice on April 1st, hardcopy got to me April 7th, I sent my response April 8th, USCIS signed for my response (I sent it registered mail so I could track it) on April 10th, their website said they received it April 13th and were reviewing it, and I got approved on April 14th (although, their website wasn't updated until April 18th). I think depending on WHAT the RFE was, the turnaround time can be VERY quick. Good luck. I think very rarely do people have to wait the 60 days.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWe got a RFE (K1 November filler - Vermont)
Definitely disappointing to get the RFE. I got one too on April 1st, but like you, I was just happy that someone was looking at my case. The good news is that it only took USCIS (California) two days to approve our petition (NOA2)once we sent in what they needed. For us, it was that they needed the entire divorce decree with the judges signature, not the one page divorce certificate I got from the county clerk.

Good luck. I hope the RFE is something simple. Hardest part is waiting for the darn hard copy to come in the mail!

I'm not having it in the UK.

More expensive than in the US, plus I simply don't want it; it's only needed for AOS and hopefully there'll be a way to refuse it by then; if not, I'll do it in the US.

Not to spark debate here, but the HPV vaccine is a really bad vaccine. Merk has covered up a lot of negative reactions with it. I would do all you can to get out of taking it. Thankfully my fiance is over 26....

I know that and was even told by my health service but unfortunately we don't really have a choice.

Have your normal doctor write a letter stating something like you have a had severe immune reactions in the past to certain vaccines and advises against it. Bring that to your medical with your other vaccines records.

No I don't think so, I don't fancy lying at my medical. And what sort of doctor lies for their patient anyway?

Sorry, I wasn’t advocating lying on your medical exam, but rather if you have concerns about a vaccine, discuss this prior to you medical with your normal health provider.

If they agree that a certain vaccine would not be advisable, have your normal doctor document that recommendation and take that with you to present to the medical exam doctor. I would hope that advice from a doctor who has been treating you for some time would carry some weight in the eyes of the doctor doing the medical, who has never even seen you before and doesn’t know your history.

I (and my fiance) are very much against certain vaccines and I would try all LEGAL means to avoid them or reduce them. It is ultimately up to the medical examiner and they have the right to check the box that says a certain vaccine is not recommended or is contradicted.

A few months ago, VCS was the king to approvals so soon the petitions, and CSC always be more slow, so now VSC is a little bit more slow that CSC, but in the middle of everything petitioners from june and july are absurd stuck whitout any explanations!! so the point is no who is more faster, is that USCIS must have do this job in order, no matter what. They have incredibles excuses for us, but the truth is they are the most disorganized department in the USA, and i think latinamerican was the worst , but surprise....USCIS have the crown.

ok...vent...done

Its Department of Homeland Security that is disorganized. I've had similar problems with CBP (Customs + Border Patrol), which is also under the DHS (as is the USCIS).

We can all thank the late George W for that wonderful government department and the chaos it caused.

US Department of State is much better, and I wish they processed the petitions.

My recent theory is that they have slowed down on the family based petitions because they likely have far fewer H1Bs and other foreign work visas to process in the current economy.

It better job security for the processing centres to have a large backlog of petitions.

How come I have seen Novmeber filers receive their NOA2? I sent out ours on Sept.27, 2008 and received my NOA1 on Oct. 07, 2008 why would they get it before me? Not that I am not happy for them because believe me I am. USCIS have stated that they process cases in order received...God just very anxious to get some infomation. Did anyone hire a lawyer for their I-129F? If you haven't then don't it's not worth it $1,600 down the drain well immagration fee included of $455 he knows less than me. This website have been very helpful!

Its very annoying and unprofessional on USCIS's part.

We have a mid-Oct NOA1, yet I've seen many November NOA1 already approved. I don't necessarily expect them to be approved in a first come, first serve order, but they should at least be 'touched' in that order. I'm sure some files take longer to process, but the fact that people with later NOA1's are approved before earlier NOA1's are even looked at shows a broken system, poor management and reflects badly on this country to future immigrants.

Its more frustrating because we have paid money for this service.

I would not have used a lawyer if I found this site first. We wanted to file our petition ASAP, and a lawyer did it in a day or so, so that's why we used one. Plus we had another issue we need to consult them on. I will not use a lawyer for paperwork down the road.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsUSCIS Security Checks @ CSC
Question for those of you in security checks.

When you were placed in security check, did your file get touched? Did the update date change?

I am one of the few Oct filers at CSC that hasn't received NOA2 yet.

My fiance was denied entry and withdrew her admission a few times around the time we filed the K-1 (3 entry tries at the same POE within a month, providing more info each time, with the hopes that would be enough, but never got in. She was in Canada and was supposed to spend the last part of a round the world trip in the US).

The date online for our case hasn't changed since the NOA1 date. My thoughts are we might be in security checks because of her CBP record.

My fiance and I hate CBP and have both be harassed many times by them. You'd think she plotted the 9/11 events based on the way they treat her. I digress though....

Any thoughts?
I am waiting another month before calling USCIS and trying Infopass.

Just curious, I would like to hear different ideas about what everyone is doing or has done to pass the time until thier fiance comes to the U.S. and how you make it as easy as possible for each other. Currently my fiance and I use Yahoo Messenger with webcam and the free calling that it offers. It is pretty good considering it is a free service but of course it's nothing like physically being together. So if anyone has any good suggestions, fun ideas or anything like that to pass the time, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

Telephone (my fiance has my Vonage VoIP adapter in Auckland, so we can call for free like a local US call). Also IM chat on Skype throughout our working days and Video in the evenings.

Ironically we communicate better and are more informed about each other's daily life being 8k miles apart than I used to be with a long distance girlfriend 12 years ago who was 150 miles away. Current technology makes it easier.

WOW...things really do move incredibly fast with the State Dept. They only had our file one day and sent it on to the US embassy in Bangkok today, 3/11/09! Wondering if they are trying to make up for USCIS sitting on it for 78 days before they sent it to NVC? Perhaps now can get it done before approval expires on 4/19/09. Sure makes for a better attitude. Thanks State Dept.

Yes, pity USCIS is not Dept of State instead of DHS.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSydney Consulate messed up!!
Based on our experience with the US Immigration/USCIS/Homeland Security (and whatever other affiliates etc that the US government decided to setup) and what I hear from all of you, I've been wondering what made the officers/administrators lose their compassion for other people's welfare and happiness?! Me (Cindy) being a kiwi who grew up in little NZ where the society's norm is to care about others, I find these US officers' heartless behaviour mind-boggling. headbonk.gif ..

I hope the US Consulate General officers in Auckland are more professional... I'm shocked to hear that they didn't even bother calling you to confirm the interview appointment! Every one of the medical clinics in Auckland call or text the patient on the day before the appointment to confirm, so why can't the Consulate do it too?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHelp - How long could this possibly take?
QUOTE (LauraLostInLove @ Mar 12 2009, 09:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello. I submitted my I-129F to the CSC back in mid November and within a week received my NOA1... but since then there has been no word, no update, nothing. My fiance and I are becoming extremely discouraged. We've started taking it out on each other, finding small things to fight about in our rediculously long separation.

I saw on here some other people that submitted their I-129F in December have already received their NOA2... how is this possible? I am so sad and so frustrated with the system. Do I have any options? I feel that my fiance and I are being robbed of our fundamentally human right to be together.

Any advise? Has anyone else had challenges in their relationship due to this process?

Thank you.

Its a ####### shoot, really. It seems about 80-90% of people breeze through USCIS approval and the other 10% can be any length of time.

We too have been discouraged that a lot of December filers have been approved, and our petition from mid-Oct is still pending.

I understand the relationship ramifications. My fiance and I actually lived together for years prior to the K-1 submission. Every day USCIS takes longer for approval is causing us heartbreak (both emotionally and financially).

Hope you here something soon.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsActually spoke to a human at USCIS today.

The woman that I spoke to today, said that they were processing Sept 15 applications now.

Then why are most Dec-Jan filers being approved today...hmmm.

I've got 3 weeks before our 6 month mark. I have no intention of ever calling USCIS, because I don't think it will do anything other than frustrate me. I've got Senator and Congressman letters ready to mail as soon as the time comes.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHello! First Post - Waiting on VSC NOA2 for K1

Even if she were denied entry on the visa waiver, it would in no way affect your I-129F petition, or delay you in receiving NOA2. You can confirm that with other members. I do agree though that there is a significant risk that she could be denied entry if she were to return too soon after having just stayed 90 days.

You are correct, denied entry (admission withdrawn) does not affect the petition approval. However, my small statistical collection shows those with CBP entry problems do in fact seem to have longer NOA2 times. However, I need a larger sample size.

I was also detained and interrogated by us customs agent about my reasons for going to the philippines at lax, the first time i went to the philippines to see my fiancee, they searched my bags and looked thru the pictures in my digital camera, the officer asked me if i had any ponography in the pictures, when i first returned from the philippines, they searched my bags and asked a bunch of question, our k1 visa case has been delayed over 1 year due to security checks.

I'm sorry to hear that. I actually take the memory card out of my camera before I go through customs or security. Not that I have anything dodgy, just that its none of their business.

Our experience was similar in the Minneapolis Customs. The had flagged my fiance as suspicious this December and nearly barred her from entry on her previously-used tourist visa (she made the mistake of not fully divulging our engagement on the second trip based on attorney recommendation, and they found out about it during questioning). She went through multiple interrogations and I received two very unpleasant calls threatening me/her with barred entry due to non-truthful statements. After a number of hours, they let her enter the US, limited the length of her stay, and told us we had better apply for the K-1 visa. They also said they were only letting her in as a Christmas gift to us, and that they would have otherwise turned her around at the border.

You are lucky.

That happened to my fiance and they turned her around. We had already filed the K-1. She was to visit me for my birthday and Christmas.

Congrats on the speedy NOA2.

Minneapolis/St Paul does not necessarily have the most courteous CBP staff, but their security track record is good. Get over it.

You can have a good security track record and still treat people with respect.

i still stand by my original claim. I said "a CPB grilling would make no difference on the adjudication of the petition".....not how long it takes to adjudicate, though I would venture to say that there is no difference there either.

CBP and USCIS have two different 'databases' for their information, and I don't think the two communicate. Whatever CBP put in 'your file' stays in CBP's database, and probably would not be 'shared' unless there is a finding of some criminality, or if you were a foreign national who was turned away at entry. You and the OP are USCs, what kind of 'file' do you think you have...that CBP could alter to make themselves look better? That's a bit big brother-ish don't you think?

Actually USCIS would check CBP files. How else would they find out certain info about whether a person has tried to enter the US fraudulently (one of the things they check and an exclusion criteria for a visa)?

You can request you CBP file via a Freedom of Information and Privacy Act request. I did after a certain incident. CBP exaggerated the incident and claimed I did and said things I did not do, serious offenses. I suspect this is causing me scrutiny.
