IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresProof of ties to Canada
My letter's from my employer always had the date of my return, a number to contact my employer if they wished to confirm, signature and title of my boss and sometimes, I included a copy of the next week's schedule showing me back on it (if your hubby has a schedule and not regular hours that is!). I made sure it was on company letterhead and have never had any problems crossing the border! Good luck and enjoy the visit from your husband!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAm I allowed to enter America from Canada while waiting on my I-129F NOA2?
Hi there! I'm new to VJ and boy, do I wish I had found it before while I was preparing my I-129F! What a great community! My question I'm sure is a common one so please have patience with me, but I used to enter US to visit my fiance in Maine every three weeks or so. My job gave me more flexibility than so I would visit him the majority of the time. While entering on two separate occasions I was asked by border officers, if we had already filed our papers. At the time we hadn't yet, but they told me both times that I would not be allowed in the country once we filed them. To double check, we went and asked the Department of Homeland Security office if this was true and was told by a not so friendly woman that, "Of COURSE, I was not allowed in the country after we filed!". I went back to Canada and we filed and he has only been able to get up to Canada for one day to see me since we started the process. I'm able to get the time off to visit him but did not think I was allowed. I've read here that other people have? Am I able to visit the US even though we have not received our NOA2 yet?

Thanks so much for any help! :help:

Ps. Sorry if I posted this wrong! This is my first time!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWaiting Since April
Hang in there! We got our NOA1 on March 11 and I was freaking out just this morning that everyone was getting through faster, while we hadn't even received a touch! Then I got an email this afternoon that we had our NOA2! Yours is just around the corner! I know it probably doesn't make you feel too much better, but it really is coming!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAre visits to the US during the process allowed?
I travelled across the border to see my (then) fiance about once a month for a year and a half before he proposed and we eventually filed for K-1. While we were preparing for the visa process the officers at the border told me that after we filed, I would NOT be allowed to cross while our visa was still pending. We even went to our local USCIS office just to confirm this and they stressed how I could not cross without having our whole package rejected. This scared me into not visiting my fiance for 7 months! But when I was about to miss my fiance's birthday, I decided to try it after hearing from everyone on VJ that it wouldn't affect our visa. I got to the border armed with our NOA1, a letter from my work, a copy of my apartment lease in Canada and when they questioned me at the border they were completely satisfied with my NOA1 alone! They were firm in making sure I knew I could not stay, but after the first trip (one week), when I returned when I said I would and brought my NOA1 (and later my NOA2 and confirmation letters), every trip after was a breeze! The last time they didn't even check my passport! The officer knew me so well, he told the officer he was training not to bother with me or I'd keep him there all day, talking his ear off :P.

In the end, it's your decision but speaking as someone who was told that I couldn't enter (when really I could!) I'm glad I did, or I would have missed so much great quality time with my (now) husband! Even if you aren't allowed to visit once you get to the border or you are only allowed a shorter trip than you had planned, it won't hurt your visa application. They may ask you if you have ever been denied entry to the US and in that case, you would just answer honestly and tell them why (not enough ties to Canada, too much time spent in the US that year, etc.).

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Ps. For the first year and a half before they we had filed, every time I crossed the border, they asked me if I was a prostitute! Every time. Having my NOA1 got them to stop asking! Woohoo! It's the handiest thing you can have with you cross the border! *Disclaimer- I really am not a prostitute.*

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview Problem
I too, ran across this problem! I did my best to recreate my package and brought everything with me to my interview. I wasn't asked for it, but I'm glad I had it! Just do your best to recreate, while the papers are still fresh in your mind and bring them with you to the interview! (And maybe make a photocopy of our recreated package, as a "just-in-case", should something get lost or damaged!) Best of luck to you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThoughts on the 90 day ceremony deadline
We were foolish enough to think our process could be finished in 9 months and planned a wedding, which got pushed back. Twice. We realized we couldn't plan a wedding in that time, as it was doubling as a family reunion and we had a lot of family flying in that needed enough notice, so once I got here we went down to city hall and had our legal wedding, sent in our AOS and started planning a commitment ceremony for the summer! Tons of time to plan and now all our families have enough notice to come!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp filling an I-129F
Honestly, if you have a pretty simple case, you are better off doing it yourself! At this point, all a lawyer can do is fill the forms in with the information you give them. The guides and especially the example forms are a great resource, as are all the members here! I was able to do it myself and I have zero attention span and no prior knowledge of anything immigration! Save your money! You'll need it for the fees in the process! Good luck and welcome to VJ!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionReceived I-485 approval - What's Next?
My wife received her I-485 approval back in January of 07. We were so excited and relieved that I forgot what the INS Officer said to us about what comes next. I remember her saying it occurs in 18 months and there is a 3 month window. It must be for the final approval of the perminent residence?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike Sullivan

USCIS Service CentersHow many wished they lived up north to apply through Vermont?
You guys, remember that living within the realms of the VSC means you have to live in (essentailly) New England - and we have to have something nice to make up for the lousy winters!!

You'll all get there, and hold onto the end result.

You may have this resolved now, but if it helps...

I have a history of depression, including self-harm issues and suicide attempts. I ticked "No", because I had a psychiatric evaluation which said I was fine.

(F)

you should of said yes on the form, ive been through the same thing.......i asked if i had an evaluation beforehand could i tick no..the Embassy doctor said you still have to check yes.

You have self harmed, thats what it askes you. I would of put yes..its going to look like your witholding the truth.

They check at the medical (they did me).

Hon, I've got my green card. I've been through the medical, and not had a problem, and I was nothing but honest. I also had my medical here in the US, which may or may not have made a difference.

My psychiatric evaluation was performed by the head of psychiatry in the British Army, for what it's worth. I guess if they deemed me mentally stable enough to join the army, they deemed me as someone with a negligible chance of reoccurence.

As I recall, it doesn't ask "have you self-harmed?". It asks if you are a danger to yourself or others. Which I am not. I would think that after two clear years, the OP's fiance is safe to say that he no longer represents any kind of danger to himself or others either.

United KingdomThis woman at work is driving me nuts
I feel you. My office is dead quiet today, because everyone else is out at some fancy tour-bus promo thing our main manufacturer is putting on to try and steal our competitors' customers. Since I work in SMB there's no sense in me being there, so I have the whole sales office to roll around in. It's absolute bliss right now, but sadly they're all coming back this afternoon.

The guy in the cube behind me talks so loudly that you can't hear your own phone conversation if he's having one, and he, the sales engineer and the sales manager shout at each other across the room. Given that the SE and SM have their own offices which are diametrically opposite to Loud Guy's cube, it gets a little noisy at times!

Just keep counting down the days.....

United KingdomMy fiance is uk citizen, im US citizen. which path should we take

we will still be "engaged" when she comes here . its not uncomon that i go there fto meet her, then she comes back to meet me here

And?

There is no guarantee that she will be admitted as a visitor - even if you are only "engaged". If she has been using the VWP frequently, that makes it even more likely that she will be subject to rigorous questioning at the POE.

I'm sorry that you don't like the idea, but it is important that you consider what you will do if it happens. Entry to the US is not a god-given right; it is a privilege which can be revoked at the whim of an IO at the POE.
ChristinaMFemaleEngland2007-04-19 11:34:00
United KingdomMy fiance is uk citizen, im US citizen. which path should we take
I see that nobody has mentioned the possibility that the UKC might be denied entry on the VWP, as she has no job, I assume, that would let her just up and leave for 3 months.

For the benefit of the OP, in order to gain entry on the VWP, your fiancee may be asked for pretty extensive proof that she will return to the UK. Having a K1 visa underway can either hurt or help, because although it shows that you are trying to do things through legal channels, it also shows that she ultimately has immigrant intent. Some things people use to show that they intend to return are evidence of a work commitment, a lease on a flat or homeownership, dependents reliant upon them longer term.... If your other half can just come over to the US for 3 months, she may not have any of these long-term ties to the UK. "I'm visiting my fiance, but I'll leave after 87 days" is probably not going to cut it.

If your plan is to have a "wedding" in the UK and have her over here as a visitor while she waits for the K1 to be processed, you must also consider what will you will do if she is denied entry at the POE.

United KingdomWhat should I buy in the UK?
If nothing else, I want to reiterate M&S undies and OTC drugs. There have been times I would have quite literally killed for a Nurofen, and my good ol' Marks knickers are still going strong after 2 years of abuse in the US (and they weren't new when they came here!).

If you have a local British Goods store, you're lucky. We're starting to see the odd thing being carried up here if you look in the right places - Marmite is in the baking section of the supermarket, of all places - but the dedicated BGS we had in Freeport (home of LL Bean, huge tourist trap) burnt down.

United KingdomBad Credit in the UK?

I agree, running away from UK debts IS irresponsible, but then accruing those debts in the first place, knowing full well
I couldnt REALLY afford the repayments was irresponsible.

At the time, as a single mum, it seemed the only way to be able to feed and house my daughter and I.
So then maybe continuing the pregnancy was irresponsible, knowing that I wasn't in a position to raise a child financially.

Hell, Im damn irresponsible, but wouldnt change a thing.
Hopefully, Ill be able to repay the vermin who target the financially disadvantaged, but Im not really going to lose any sleep over it.
