CanadaMTL Timeline to Interview
How long does it usually take to get Packet 3 from Montreal? I haven't heard anything from anyone lately. No packet 3 nor a letter from NVC saying they have received my petition and forwarded it, etc. I called the NVC late June to find out that they received my petition on the 27th and sent it to Montreal on the 29th. I know it hasn't been too long, but does Montreal take a long time to send Packet 3s, too, or just scheduling interviews?

Yup I believe it is July 9

I thought their site said they will stop processing other types of visas mid-July :(

Yup, they will stop processing visitor, work and student visas.- IMO... who cares he he he.... all I care about is OUR visas my dear VJ'ers!!!! selfish, yes, but priceless!

Where did you see that info? If true, that makes me very excited. With the speed up at CSC and possibly now at Montréal, we may be able to get married at our wedding or at least very shortly thereafter.

Hey y'all,

I didnt want to start another thread, so I figured I'd just post my good news in here.

Well, today I set a date for mine and Brian's wedding. I called the probate court this morning to get more info on the marriage license, then was told if I wanted a ceremony to make an appointment with the magistrate judge's office, so I did. The big day is for Tuesday Novemeber 20th!!

The woman on the phone was telling me about the prices for the license and if we were to go to marriage counceling, that it would only be $16, without the counceling, it's $51. The ceremony is $25 on weekdays and $300 on Saturday. So I saved a bunch taking the Tuesday appointment. It's $5 for each copy of the license, so I'm getting 2. So my grand total is $86!! and I don't even need a SSN. Just a drivers license, which I don't have, but the woman said my Visa will be good enough. We figured we'd have everyone come over to the house afterwards for a small get together, but with it being so close to Thanksgiving, we're going to wait until the weekend after. Most of our friends will have a hard time getting to his house on a Tuesday night with it being a work night and all, so we can wait to see everyone. I don't know what we're doing about a honeymoon. Maybe he'll surprise me lol.

Well thats it. Just had to spread the good news to the world lol. wink.gif

Mary

We'll probably be having our wedding on that day or the next, as well. Just want to get the approval from the consulate before making any final moves. I can get the license without Kristy and without a SSN for her. Just have a three day waiting period, so I'll be getting the license next week, which is $20 since I'm a resident, and the minister that did our "wedding" will also do our "marriage" now for another $25.

I had my first Canadian Kit-Kat yesterday, and I could tell the difference, but I thought it was quite subtle.

I'm going to have to make sure I grab some Coffee Crisp and other Nestle ice creams when I move Kristy over here.

Well, I called to have an estimate done on Tuesday. From what I've read, testing isn't really that important, because you want to get rid of it regardless of what kind it is. As far as the cause of the problem, I think I know what it is. I've had a broken dehumidifier that I've never replaced in the last two years. It's simply condensation in the basement, as well as I need to put some rain gutters up on the east side of my house and drain the water away from my foundation.

I'm heading to Home Depot right after work and buying a dehumidifier, and I'm also putting up plastic sheeting to quarantine the basement from the rest of the house.

On top of that, I think my sewer may be backing up once a while, too. Ah, the joys of home ownership.

Well, I also happen to be the person whom my surgeon has said can talk the best with their jaw wired shut. Most people on the phone don't even know, and I've had no border patrol people ask me about it.

It's really not as painful as one would think, it's just very frustrating. Although, last night I was in pain due to an "unrelated" tooth problem. My gum is a little inflamed and really hurts since I can't brush very well. I had to go out and buy a Spider-Man toothbrush in order to fit and brush better. Also, the roof of my mouth is generally burnt since I can't really gauge how hot the soups and such that I heat up are before I suck it up through the straw.

The worst part is crushing up and drinking my anti-biotic. It has to be the most bitter and disgusting thing I've ever tasted. I've taken to crushing it up and putting it in a shot glass and mixing it with either maple syrup and sugar or sour mix, and then sucking it up through a straw as quickly as possible.

So, I didn't tell you guys this sooner, but, I've got an interesting story now for my wedding. I broke my jaw and it's currently wired shut. The good news is that the oral surgeon is going to cut the wires before the wedding, and then put them back on after the honeymoon.

I don't have an interesting story for how I broke my jaw, though. I did by accidentally biting down on a cherry pit. Granted, my jaw was weakened from my recent wisdom tooth extraction and infection, but it was the first time my oral surgeon had seen a post-op jaw fracture in 13 years of practice.

On the bright side, I'm shedding a couple pounds being on a liquid diet for the past 2 and half weeks. I hope they'll be able to take the tux in enough to make it still look good on me, though.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMinor children and biometrics

don't forget that when the child turns 14, you need a new GC (with full biometrics) regardless of what it says on
the expiration date.

This is done via form I-90

Thanks for that tidbit. However, in our case, my wife and step-daughter plan on naturalizing next year. I also find that a lovely convenience charging of fees. GC w/ conditions last for two years, so you have to remove conditions only one year before naturalization based on marriage. They'll likely have their 10 year GC for less than year before they naturalize.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMinor children and biometrics
Hmm. I'm confused about what's needed for my step-daughter (she's 9). She only got a letter extending the expiration on her green card, my wife got a NOA and appointment time for biometrics and a more official looking letter extending her green card.

We showed up for my wife's appointment with my step-daughter in tow, thinking she would have her biometrics taken, too. Well, they wouldn't take my daughter's since she didn't have an appointment letter. I then made an INFOPASS appointment to talk with an IO, and she stated that since my step-daughter was under 14, she didn't need biometrics, contrary to what is stated on http://www.uscis.gov...00045f3d6a1RCRD

Base petition fee plus $80 biometric services fee for all conditional resident applicants. Each conditional resident child listed under Part 5 of this form who is a dependent seeking to remove their conditional status, is required to submit an additional biometric services fee of $80, regardless of age.

What I'm worried about is what if my step-daughter's appointment letter was lost in the mail and since she missed her appointment is considered to have abandoned the green card process?

Yeah, I'd imagine they are open, however, what I envied, is looking at the Montreal consulate's hours of operation, they get BOTH US and Canadian holidays off. Lucky them. Canada seems to have a long weekend every month. I work for the state government, and we get eight holidays off, today or Monday not included.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWHY VERMONT CENTRE IS FASTER THAN OTHERS?

Well, I'm compiling data on this egregious discrepancy and forwarding it on to my Senator. It may not do any good, but it makes no sense for California to take on nearly 3 times the case load. From the data I've gathered so far, even though they have 3 times the case load, it takes them quadruple the amount of time to process them. And, in my case, and others marrying Canadians, the same thing happens at the Department of State level, as Montreal serves a higher population, as well, and is much slower than the consulate in Vancouver. In one recent report from the Canadian forum, someone called the Montreal Consulate and was told that it would take 8-12 months to schedule an interview.

Here is a list of the state senators, their addresses and phone numbers. You might want to draft a letter template and make it available for other VJ members to mail to or use to call their senator(s). If there is a concerted effort behind this, they make start to take notice.

List of senators

Do you hav e acopy of the letter that you sent to your congressmen(women)? Can I see a copy of it?

I'm still compiling it. I'm trying to get hard numbers, such as Census 2000, number of K visas applied for, etc., to include. I'm working on it during my free time at work. I'd be glad to share it when I do finish it.

Also, both of you can legally be married.

That's right, but in that case you wouldn't be applying for K-1, you'd be applying for K-3.

That was worded strangely. I believe what was meant was that the other condition for a fiancée visa is that you are both legally free and clear to marry.

You may be using outdated links. They've restructured the website. You should be able to check it at https://egov.uscis.g.../jsps/index.jsp now.

Don't know if anybody inquired about this:

For those still waiting for approval, are you able to check your status on the USCIS website?

I've been getting this:

"HTTP 405 - Resource not allowed

just wondering if I'm not the only one.

There had been a bit of a "surge" at CSC with some of us March and April filers getting approved in seventy-some days, but ninety days has been the usual for quite a while. I wouldn't fret. Although, the ones that got approved quick at CSC, like mine, took a long time to get to NVC, so it evened out, anyway.

I'm not sure if you can do it with all US embassies world wide, but I know at least for the embassy in Thailand, I can just go straight onto their website and all packet 3 forms that are needed are on the site. So it isn't neccessary to even wait to receive packet 3, you just download the forms and send them as soon as you hear the embassy has your case...you might want to check into that with your respective embassy.

Well, it is exciting, because now I can finally hurry up and wait the six months or so for my fiancee's interview to happen!

Why 6 months?

That's approximately how long the consulate in Montreal, Canada, has been taking lately from the receipt of the petition to the interview. When we started, I had no idea that part was going to take so long. My fiancee and I had even delayed sending off the petition for two months because we didn't want to get the visa too soon.

I just got through to the NVC (Option 1, then Option 2), waited on hold for about four minutes (they estimated three), and they received my petition on June 27, and forwarded it to Montreal on June 29. My NOA2 date was June 6, so it took my case 21 days to get from the CSC to the NVC.
