CanadaRenewing Canadian passport in Canada while visiting

No, if you file in Canada, it's only 160. The increase in fees THERE is due to the new 10 year passport with microchip.
Then ON TOP of that increase is another 100 bucks because we'd file outside of canada and need it returned to the US.

Edit: In Case you like to read long boring info.
The proposed fee structure is half way down:
http://www.ppt.gc.ca...x.aspx?lang=eng

When you break out the cost per year, really the regular 10 year cost increase is not bad at all.
It's on par with the states and cheaper than some other countries.
It's just that ridiculous 100 dollar extra charge for filling outside that I think is crazy.
There was no charge like that when I was going to file my US renewal from Canada.

where do you see the $100 extra charge? I have been looking for it and I can't see it..

CanadaRenewing Canadian passport in Canada while visiting

I just had a minor heart attack and answered my own question.
I remember when my husband had his passport expedited in 2009, it only cost him less than $120.
It looks like in order to get him a new 10 year passport in 2014 while living outside the us, we could be looking at 235 to 260 bucks.
An extra hundred just to send the thing back to the US?! That's so crazy.

the extra money is probably because the Canadian passport is good for 5 years but now they are going to increase it to 10 years..

I don't think actual cards help but the envelopes they came in can if they show both your names on it with your address..

CanadaI-751 evidence - worried!

just to give you an idea this is what we included in our package ....

copy of apt rental agreement
copy of car insurance
copy of one recent joint tax form
copy of 401K
copy of health care statement
copy of one recent gas bill
copy of one recent phone bill
copy of one recent cable bill
copy of recent bank statements
copy of paper showing that hubby added me to his bank account
Copy of some bills (Sirius, Netflix etc) with just hubby's name and our address on it
Copy of some bills with just my name on it and our address (recent electric bill etc..)
Some envelopes with both our names and address on them...

I just sent in the most recent bill for each utility.... The phone and gas were in my name but I added hubby's name, the electric company didn't let me add my hubby's name...... and I just included the most recent bank statement.... and the application that we filled out to add me to hubby's account...

CanadaShould we reconsider visa type?

we went the CR1 route.  Got married in Canada in March 2004, applied about a month later.  I had my visa interview in March 2005.  We did have a few RFE's because of an incompetent lawyer.. (i wish we would have just done it ourselves) ...Once I moved down to the US I got my green card within 3 to 4 weeks and my SSN within a few weeks but I had to actually go into the SSN office to get it..

Once you cross over and use your visa they stamp your passport with a I-551 stamp which will be your temporary green card til you receive the actual card.. I think it is good for a year...

CanadaRegistering Birth Outside Canada

Our child is due in mid October and we will also likely want to travel back to Canada for Christmas (and probably before that since we live pretty nearby).  I am still trying to figure out what is all needed to cross the border.  Since they are a US citizen at birth when born in the USA, I presume that a birth certificate should suffice for their ID as far as a land border crossing and that we only need a passport for crossing by plane.  Is that correct?  I have no idea how long it takes to get a birth certificate. Guessing it probably varies by state.

yeah I think up to a certain age they only need the BC for land crossings..

U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 15 or younger with parental consent will be allowed to cross the borders at land and sea entry points with certified copies of their birth certificates rather than passports.

For those that drove uhauls, did you pick up in canada and drop off in US?

That is allowed?

We planned to bring my step dad up with us, have him rent a truck in blue water, MI, cross the border with it, get our stuff, then drive back and drop truck off in IL.

But if I can actually rent locally and drop off in US, WAY better! saves me 4 hours of gas.

yes, I am pretty sure it is

Montreal is the only place that does the interviews for the CR1 visa.  The K1 is done in Vancouver or Montreal.  For the K1's the consulate you go to depends on where you live..

CanadaWhy did you pick K1 vs CR1? (for Canadian beneficiaries)

I don't remember having to prove co-mingling of assets.  And we didn't really offer much proof of a real marriage.  I think a few pictures and cards.. plus the marriage certificate of course

CanadaWhy did you pick K1 vs CR1? (for Canadian beneficiaries)

we picked Cr1 because we thought we had a kind of tricky situation and we figured a CR1 visa would be easier to get.  We had already been in an LDR for about 2 years so we figured a few extra months would be ok..

CanadaVaccination Records

Depends on age.

If he's like 30, there's really no point.

MMR wears off and you'd be out of date on TD.

well, I was 31 and I did the titer and the MMR showed up..

I never had a tetanus shot so I had to get that anyways.  but I am not sure the titers can check for that anyways.

CanadaQuestions Regarding Travel to Canada

That would be a good plan if you can pull it off on your visit (getting a new passport).

If you want to change your name in your passport you need to do the full application and not the simplified renewal.

It?s a bit of a pain in the butt with having to get your photos signed by your guarantor and such.  Probably easier to do it in from Canada.

Also, you have a choice between a more expensive 10 year passport or a cheaper 5 year passport now depending on your finances.

when you look at the per year cost though the 10 year is cheaper..

CanadaRed Flagged at Border, anyone else? What are my chances...

I was denied entry and banned for a year but they didn't stamp my passport or anything.  Of course I didn't visit for that year.  After the year was up we got married and applied for the Cr1. The year it took to get the visa I didn't visit either, I was too scared..

I did disclose the denial and the banning on the forms and the only thing the interviewer asked was if I had any other issues at the border and I said no.

the OP is applying for a Cr1 visa which means when they enter at the POE they will get a stamp in their passport that acts as a temporary green card and is usually good for a year.
