United KingdomLondon 2012- K1s from NOA2 to interview thread

Ok I sorted out the Police Cert Application and the photos in the process of making an appointment with my GP.

When can I expect to hear from my US Embassy about medical, interviews etc?

http://www.visajourn.../content/k1flow

This gives as good an idea as any of us can guess for you.

I confess I am so jealous of everyone so close, anticlimax or not! :)

Congratulations to all who require them today - and good luck to all who need it soon!

2 weeks when I had mine also, think it depends on if it's just you, or do you have kids to bring along as well.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

It'll just be me going. Going to give my GP a few more days to get their @rse in gear, I think. Despite this process requiring infinite amounts of it, I am not the most patient person! (pun slightly intended).

May I ask what people found to be the availability for medical appointments? I am aggravatingly still waiting for a supporting letter from my GP, and I don't want to book anything until I have that in hand. When you called Knightsbridge were they pretty open? I'd love to get this ball rolling again, as soon as it's within my power!

You know sometimes I wish we didn't have access to so much info...!?! I think I would be a little calmer if I just had to wait! The CEAC thing is annoying me, as they haven't yet updated it since Aug 6th, despite my sending in my D forms on the 15th. Kinda wish I didn't know about CEAC so I wasn't always checking it! rolleyes.gif

My pet hate is "I've been waiting so long for my NOA2 - now it's arrived what do I need to do now ?"

To which I think "you need to wonder why you didn't spend the last five months reading up on what you need to do after the NOA2 arrives"

Hehe, I second this one! :P

Thank you very for your info. and congrats that your case is already moved on smile.png

for the e-mail alert...is it the same place that we set up at uscis website to update the case? Now it only showed that my case was approved and noting's updated more than that.

Thank you :)

Yes, on this site http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis there's an option once you have logged in, to receive email and text notifications.

I wish you the best of luck with this and the rest of your journey, hang on in there!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)K1 visa noa2 dated 7/15 still have no case no. or transfer notice!!

As detailed in my signature, we got our approval on July 11th and are now at the stage we've been told the case is on its way to London, England. There were apparently some hold ups from sending the cases from TSC to NVC (I thought I read somewhere??) as we actually received notice when they did it, which surprised us as we'd assumed it must have gone already!

I would say keep calling, but equally like any of these stages of the process, a change could happen at any moment (like by the end of today - edit: or perhaps not, as it's a weekend sleep.png - you could get an email telling you it's been handed over to NVC, if you set up e-alerts).

Good luck!

CanadaEntering US on K1 at US/Canada border....?

Noted :)

We were seriously talking about our plans finally last night, and it might not even happen now... with gas and car parking at the airport it doesn't work out very much cheaper via Montreal, sadly. My head is spinning from all the facts and figures still! But I think we'd definitely call ahead if our POE ends up being Can/US border.

CanadaEntering US on K1 at US/Canada border....?

Hi Jo!

I am looking at doing this also - flying to Calgary from Gatwick and then driving down to the Montana border.  I have travelled this way before as its cheaper and quicker than the three flights through the US to get to my fiance's Montana home.

I am just wondering about entry to Canada with a one-way ticket, but I guess if we have K1 visas and ongoing travel plans to the US Canadian immigration will be good with that?

Keep me updated on your progress smile.png

Cool! I will definitely let you know, and please do likewise!

I took a look at a couple of the links people posted on this thread (government site and POE reviews) and it appears that our intended border entry point know their way around a K-1. If you know where yours is it might be worth having a peek too. I think we'll be okay as you say, it's a legit visa rather than just a one way ticket :)

CanadaEntering US on K1 at US/Canada border....?

If we do end up doing the flight into Montreal and then doing a land POE it would be at the one at the Champlain border (I-87/A-15) with the cost of flight tickets it looks like this might be the most economical route without factoring in gas and airport parking of course. Our interview is coming up soon so we can start evaluating things a bit more. I do wish the POE reviews were a bit easier to sort through/always had a location included but so far it looks like that one is a pretty good place to enter. We will be leaving a review of our experience as well to help any future Champlain POE prospects too.

Cheers!

Yay my baby posting :P heart.gifheart.gif

It would be nice to have just one flight for once as well, rather than two (and associated worry with layover times etc).

(I guess I feel a little silly now, not factoring of course Canadians would enter the US this way blush.png  But it took this post for me to realise that, haha. Too long in the UK part of the forums?! Anyway, will endeavor to read up on it all, should we decide to take this route.

To be honest I'm not sure where we'd enter, I will ask Bob this evening! Champlain sounds right but I will check with him.

Thanks again all! good.gif )

CanadaEntering US on K1 at US/Canada border....?

Thanks everyone. I will have a looky at everywhere you have suggested.

Are you a Canadian citizen or British? I see that your profile says UK? If it is British, why would your fiance fly out of Canada? Just because it is the nearest airport?

I am doing a land POE from Canada but I am a Canadian citizen. I would imagine it would be fine to enter that way for you too and the same documents are required.

Thanks for your reply. I am British. His nearest airport is either Montreal (as he's that close to the border) or Burlington, VT. But Montreal flights can come straight to London, rather the short-haul + long-haul journey of using Burlington. As I say we are just looking at all possibilities right now, cheaper/easier flight options.

check out www.cpb.gov  you can find what office to call ( I'm guessing Champlain) they even list phone numbers for immigration questions.

Excellent, thank you so much.

CanadaEntering US on K1 at US/Canada border....?

Apologies if I should have put this on the Canada forum boards?! I wasn't quite sure where it belonged most. Mods please feel free to move if necessary.

Anyway, Bob and I have started looking at flights etc, not booking anything but too excited not to look!

Ideally he wants to come over and get me. Now, Plattsburgh where he lives is right by the NY/Canada border, so him driving to Montreal flying from there is an option. Obviously the reverse for the journey back with me.

I was just wondering if there are any special considerations or anything I ought to be wary of, if my POE is by land driving back across the border to Bob's/my new home, from having landed in Montreal first??

You hear so many people talking about POE's at airports but never land. Opinions, thoughts? It makes me nervous slightly as it isn't the norm, and there's only one old review on the POE review bit of this site.

What say you, VJ!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDenied!!!

What's really sad is that those of us who actually care about Our Country have to wait in the same queue as those who could care less.  People like that really should get out of line and just move to another country already - preferably where the beneficiary resides. That would be a true testament of their Love as Soulmates...

I would also say how does one quantify "caring about" a country? In the sense of "we'll process the applications quicker/only for those who love their country the most". Clearly then everyone would!

Sorry, I don't mean to sound trite. And I understand the frustration at this whole process (filed late Feb, so we've a long wait yet), but statements like that are needlessly inflammatory hon.

You know those times when you check and obsessively check and nothing ever changes?

Then one evening you are watching TV together (I am visiting Bob - my fiance and the USC - for the summer) and he gets an email come through on his phone from USCIS.

Not really.

If you work and you won't be for the UK anymore, you might want to complete and send in a P85.  It just tells them not to be expecting any of your tax monies any time soon. wink.png

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHas anyone obtained there K1 Visa in 5 months ?

It took us five just to get to NOA2 (no RFE's) and realistically (though different countries differ, I imagine) I'm not going to get an interview for another month at least. We filed in Feb and I am hoping all is done by xmas. But I'm not booking anything until that visa is in my hand.

Expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFebruary 2013 filers K1

I hadn't done the checking around your own case number thing, until just now. Ours ends in a 5 so I went backwards first, and the one ending 2 has had an RFE which they are now checking the applicant's response to! And one ending in 9 when I went up, has had an RFE sent out. I know this is all pretty arbitrary really (I tell myself this, so as not to go mad), but this makes me slightly excited nonetheless :P

Continued wishes of good luck everyone!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting fiance without activating K1 visa

I was recently wondering the same thing and have decided against it. I didn't find a solid, official answer as such but the general view is it's not possible/a good idea to try.

Other options are, as someone said above, he visits you, or you meet in a country other than the US for your trip. I was considering Canada (as my fiance lives quite close to the border anyway) but the flight prices... crying.gif  So now I'm just going to wait!

Like anything it's up to the individual to evaluate the risks and rewards, but personally I just don't think it's worth the gamble or stress!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I enter the US on ESTA with a K1 in my passport?

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure only one visa can be active at any one time...? I don't think it's possible to "choose" which visa you use upon entry...?!

Jo Amelia FinlayFemaleUnited Kingdom2013-09-23 10:54:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat constitutes evidence of financial support?

Well I guess that  adds a couple more months to my wait while I get my fiance to send stuff like that :/

I'm also still confused about the inclusion of the affadavit of support because it specifically says on the website that I do not need this untill I apply for adjustment of status.

I don't know, the interveiw isn't scheduled yet. Is it possible for the interview to be elsewhere than the embassy?

I was hoping to go to the post office with my forms today. LOL.

I just wasn't sure if Wales fell under the remit of the embassy in London or not!

There's another affidavit for AoS I think (not read too far into that yet) but you definitely need one at the interview stage too. What "website" (bolded above) do you mean? As someone else has said, none of this evidence gets sent through the mail; the only stuff you send off at the later stages are the DS forms and cover letters.

Jo Amelia FinlayFemaleUnited Kingdom2013-09-25 08:57:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat constitutes evidence of financial support?

From memory I don't think the initial petition covered financial stuff? From what I can gather the K1 interview is a two fold thing involving submitting evidence you can be financially supported for however long you need to be, and a chat with an official to check the relationship's legit.

Here's a link that goes into the support side a bit: http://www.visajourn...content/support - branched off from down the bottom of this one http://www.visajourn...content/k1guide. I've got a tonne of stuff which will no doubt be over and above what they want (Affidavit itself, tax returns, letter from his employer, pay stubs, stamped and signed letter from his bank with a healthy balance in it etc etc).

Will your interview be at the London embassy? My research/knowledge is based upon that! Reviews suggest no evidence of engagement per se is required, but if you are past your NOA2 expiry you need a new intent to marry letter from the USC (notarized). Again, just to be safe I am going to go armed with more than I need, some photos and bits and pieces, more of a security blanket than anything else! Here tells you specifically what to bring to interview: http://london.usemba..._documents.html See how it doesn't mention letters, Skype logs and all that jazz.

The "evidence of engagement" thing is either outdated or somehow relates to something else, and not K1, because we neither send it with the D forms nor apparently need it at the interview.

As ever anything I've got wrong here, someone please correct! tongue.png It's certainly a lot of info to take in sometimes.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's all we need. I just wondered because the way they talk about 'The MRV fee receipt' makes it sound like some mystical hand written scroll.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMRV receipt

This may be a really stupid question but is the MRV receipt an actual receipt? I paid online at www.usvisa-info.com and have just screen printed the page where it confirms my payment?

Is there some kind of 'official' receipt I am missing out on here??

I assume they just mean the email confirmation you get, which says you've paid. I am sure I've read from others that is what they took to interview. Gmail is blocked here (I'm at work) so gonna take a peek when I get home tonight as I paid mine this morning also.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresdenied fiance visa

To my knowledge they have to suspect drug use, or the issue of using drugs has to have come up beforehand, to test. That's what I was told. I admitted to drug use in my youth and the doc said: "Because you have mentioned this, I need to test you." I got the impression she thought I probably could have not bothered saying anything, given the amount of time past, but because I did she was duty bound to test me (still, an extra £40 for them as well!). Just my opinion.

However remember at Knightsbridge Doctors there are two questionnaires you fill out (available in advance, if you look) asking about drug use and/or addiction. So the topic is addressed more than once.

Anyway sorry, I'm not helping the original question any. Best of luck with your steps forward with this, OP.

really? oh great, i only sent mine on Thursday..guess im in for a long wait

I think it's ten working days they aim to notify you/look at it. When you factor in weekends - and bank holidays - it reeeaaally stretches the wait time out! I'm going to try not to worry until it's been a few weeks and if I've still heard nothing, then I'll chase it. Looks by the OP's timeline it took them almost a month: 27th April sent off, 17th May received it back! ClockWatch2.gif Us sending it off way before NOA2 time was a good move methinks.
