K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresObtaining UK ACRO - Police Certificate process

really? oh great, i only sent mine on Thursday..guess im in for a long wait

I think it's ten working days they aim to notify you/look at it. When you factor in weekends - and bank holidays - it reeeaaally stretches the wait time out! I'm going to try not to worry until it's been a few weeks and if I've still heard nothing, then I'll chase it. Looks by the OP's timeline it took them almost a month: 27th April sent off, 17th May received it back! ClockWatch2.gif Us sending it off way before NOA2 time was a good move methinks.

I've just sent mine off (on Friday 17th May) and now I am especially glad that we're a way off getting our NOA2 etc yet, given the slow turnaround for these police certs! It'll be one less thing to scramble around to get when the time comes.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

Despite going to some lengths to have evidence to support the fact I would be coming back to the UK after this trip was over (to clarify: I am absolutely am!), when it came to the crunch and the officer asked me the purpose of my visit, I said "summer holiday" and left it at that. I think if she had asked whether I was visiting anyone, or something like that, then I would have been up front of course, but in that split second the words to come out of my mouth went along with what you read on here about not volunteering more information than you need to - and calling this a summer holiday is not a lie, obviously. She then asked me how long I was staying, and that was all the questions I had. I've actually had more of a grilling when I wasn't involved with the visa process or in a relationship with an American :P But like most things I suppose it depends on the POE and the officer you get.

When I had to do the fingerprint thing I clocked my engagement ring and suddenly thought "Oh!" but she didn't say anything (or see it, for all I know). It took a little while for her to get something up on her screen which freaked me out ever so slightly, but then she just stamped my passport and sent me on through.

I think possibly my last min decision was to do with the fact I was worried about time between flights. My long haul one left and therefore landed late, so I only had about 2hrs to clear immigration, find case, re-check case, go through security and find my terminal/gate. As I am sure you're aware, this is completely doable until you hit long queues and then it gets a bit stressful (for me, anyway tongue.png!). So I dunno, maybe I took the easy option because I knew it would be quicker. It was a gamble that paid off.

This was at NY, JFK by the way. Anyway now I'm just going to relax and be thankful I'm here after what felt like an eternity of counting down to it! dancin5hr.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List

I have RFE's on the brain now.

Looking through my copy of everything last night I noticed a couple of things that may well provoke an RFE. Trying not to worry too much, will just have to wait and see when the time comes. ClockWatch2.gif

There's specific info which is missing/incorrect (although repeated numerous times elsewhere) but also I was wondering if the fact I fly into an airport not located in the city where Bob lives might be a problem, too?? His city airport is rubbish and never has flights which are of any use to me, so I come into the next closest and he picks me up. Additionally, he always flies *from* this airport, too. I'm wondering if this fact (shown in his boarding passes etc; both of ours name said airport (Burlington International)) might bother anyone reviewing the application?? Hopefully we have enough additional evidence if needed.

...I think I maybe need to take some deep breaths and step away from reading up on the process for a while unsure.png Sometimes I think it stresses me out more! Our anticipated adjudication time isn't until between August 29, 2013 and September 2, 2013 so I think perhaps Jo just needs to chill out and enjoy her summer! headbonk.gif

United KingdomLondon Interview - List of Typical Interview Questions

I have printed off the list from the OP and Bob and I are going to go through it on Skype at some point. Actually pretty excited about that, haha. Feels like a nice proactive thing to do during another indefinite amount of time waiting! :)

I'm now slightly worried mum doesn't have the specific examples of ID for taking possession on my behalf, but it's too late now. We'll have to see. I still have my birth cert from the interview and they apparently ask for that for proof of her being my parent! wacko.png

Edit: Oh wait, in my excitement and rush I think I read the wrong bit! Never mind! *runs in circles* :P

Pretty much. I need the money. I might leave after exchange of contracts but because of the AP issues I won't risk leaving before. Right bloody pain. Puts my move back two months I reckon. Wish I lived in Scotland now !

Argh how aggravating! I'm sorry this has happened!

I got an e mail on the thursday with a tracking number, went to the website and it said delivery the next day. In the embassy there is a courier desk in the US citizens area, might be worth going there on your way out and see if they are more flexible than the online booking.

You can opt for any address and person to be the recipient when you book home delivery online, I had mine sent to my parents care of my dad. no problems with it

Mum may be my saviour then! Thank you for your reply :)

Speaking to mum tonight and will sound her out.

May I ask a question (rather than starting a whole new thread :/!). My interview is on Wed Oct 23rd but exactly a week later I have two days off (Wed 30th and Thur 31st) for a friend's wedding back in my hometown.

My question is: do the couriers tell you when they are delivering, or can you request from a window of dates available? I know most of us just want this in hand ASAP, but I need to think logistics here! It's really frustrating that I am going to be definitely busy and out of town from my home and work addresses for those two days, gaaahhhh. Wondering if I can set mum up as someone who can take possession of it for me...

Anyone have an opinion/advice? Is the turnaround on average a week...?

United KingdomThings you need to do before leaving the UK

I wish to remind people to fill out and submit the HMRC's form P85. I just got a letter back from them after receiving mine and I am getting nearly £500 back!

Just another question about medical stuff/medication: I currently take 2 medications and am given about 3 months worth at a time, I then call in a re-fill. Has anyone asked their Doctor to prescribe 6 months (or longer) due to moving overseas?  I am just a bit concerned about not having medical insurance in the U.S. from the get go, and would like to to have 6 months worth of medication if possible - unsure of whether a UK Dr will prescribe enough to cover 6 months? Any experience of this?

The only experience I have is with the contraceptive pill. I was given a year's worth, which I am incredibly grateful for! Think it probably depends on the type of medication, and the doctor. I'd just explain your situation and hope they can help you out...? Good luck!

It's nuts that they can even charge you for a print-out of your own data. I wish I could charge 50 quid when a customer where I work asks for data about themselves :/

It's mental, right?!

I printed off that linked NHS page and submitted it along with my records request. Needless to say they only ended up charging me £50.

Funny sitting and reading through it all :)

My practice estimates they'll charge me £100 for a copy of my medical records. There's my birthday money treat then!

Re: getting the British culture in before you go. For anyone as in love with Big Ben as I am, you might consider doing this before you leave:

http://www.parliamen...isitors/bigben/

It's a free tour, but you have to arrange it through your local MP. I have mine booked :D

They are full until early 2014 however, but since I'm not planning to fly out until early Feb (all being well) it's worked out.
