May main objection (and it still is) was the letter they sent me when my case first arrived to NVC. That letter clearly said my case was approved and would be forwarded to the consulate within 7 days. I found out 2 weeks later it was still in NVC and it stayed there 2 weeks more after that. They should stop sending that misleading letter to people, and replace it with a letter saying simply "your case has arrived at NVC and is undergoing processing... we will notify you when there is a change in your status or if we require further documentation." That would solve a lot of grief.

Exactly, that is my main gripe!

This process (I use that term for lack of a better one) is like one of those dreams/nightmares in which you are in a fight or some other predicament but are unable to swing your arms or run or scream... mad.gif

@lenaandbilly - try calling the "real" dept of state ?? See if they can give you an update ?? (Not NVC) - **side note - do you really think NVC would admit to calling ?? That would be considered "customer service and who ever called would prob be fired .... rofl.gif - good luck ! Hope it means good things

@missmissy - fingers crossed !! Hope you get some good news !!

@chris@beth - is no way for knowing for sure

@ScottThuy - good luck - this whole process sinks to go though then this extra glitch is just added frustration sad.gif

@d&z - fingers crossed for u also

Sorry if I overlooked anyone - congrats if you got out and good luck to all still in !

Thanks CrazyMary but I called them, at least I called 202-663-1225. In AP is what they say--I have been unable to get any sort of hints or time frame estimates as other people here have talked about. I was hoping that yesterday's phone call was a hint, but our petition didn't leave as of yesterday. Surely it means that at least someone is looking at our file? There have been 9 packages leave for Kyiv since the 28th of September. I was sure that each one would be ours as there are only about 9 of us here waiting for one but then it hit me that there are probably people going through this process that aren't members of this site and... Oh well, the wait continues--day 34. Hopefully some of us will escape today. New day, new hope.

Lena left today for Kyiv where she will get her medical exam tomorrow, feels good to be making progress but DAMN I thought she'd already be here by now!!!

I just got a call from NVC I think. The number is 603-334-9400 and "US.GOVT DEPT OF" showed on the Caller ID. I didn't make it to the phone on time unfortunately and and they left no message and when I called this number back the recording said "you have reached a non-working number of the US DEPT OF STATE, check the number..."

Has anyone heard of this happening? I am both excited and scared that they called me. I guess at this point I would rather just be denied than to keep waiting indefinitely without knowing anything. I don't think my fiancee or I have any reasons for denial so I'll try to stay positive but this process has pushed me right to the edge of sanity. On second thought maybe I have already slipped over that edge...

I just called the number for self-torture and the guy was really nice and tried to find out what was going on/who called. After holding for five minutes or so he came back on the line and said he had been unable to find out anything and that there appears to be no change in my case status and that if no one calls me from there within an hour to call back and ask for a supervisor.

On the edge, not sure which side. blink.gif

Funny to quote oneself, but for information puposes...

I talked to a supervisor this evening about the phone call I had received from NVC this morning and after some investigation she said that she was told that I should forget about the phone call. LOL! smile.gif)) I am hoping that it means that they are finally at least looking our my file, any opinions? Looking for some kind of hope.

Yea I'm signed up for e-mail communication. And neither have I ever heard of someone being called from NVC, but it happened to me this morning. Maybe it was an accident? smile.gif sad.gif I have since talked to the supervisor and she also found out nothing about the call or any news about our case. Why don't they just send the GD petition to the embassy??? What a bunch of !@#$!!! At least my fiancee will get some life insurance money if I die of a heart attack before this !@#$ is over.

If they are actually doing something, checking names, etc. (which I thought was what was supposed to have taken place during the almost six months we were at VSC) then great, but they should communicate this and provide a time frame and then the whole process wouldn't be neary as frustrating. But I highly doubt there is anything organized taking place. As someone said on here--just imagine if we let the government get control of the health-care industry!!!

Lost at Bureaucra-Sea.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)What is "Additional Processing" in NVC?
QUOTE
They said it's undergoing "additional processing" and they "don't have timeline" for it. Convenient wording aside, I asked what that means and they said "we don't know" but I then asked "do other cases all undergo this additional processing?" and they very confidently said "some do, some don't". So, local experts, - what is it? and how long of a delay am I looking at here?

After being at USCIS almost 6 months and now being stuck for AP at NVC I would compare it to having your face rubbed in the ####### that was just kicked out of you by their "partners in bureaucracy."

It could be worse and I know it often is, but it could also be better.

Maybe we got away with one. I had Lena sign it and then she scanned and e-mailed it to me and I then printed it and mailed it in with the I129F--shhh!

Okay everyone thank you very much for the advice! I decided not to be lazy and possibly sorry, so I've spent the last few hours making a nice book of documentation. Now I feel very confident in more than one way: #1) there is probably nothing that they can ask her/us for that she/we won't have, and #2) I now have very little doubt about her approval and feel very secure in the belief that our "case" is rock solid and our small mountain of evidence is more than enough. Thank you all again for talking me out of being stupid/lazy and possibly very regretful.

There has tobe something else that worries the consulate.. any legal US resident can sponsor. I woudl like to see that rule in writing

she said there is a rule change requiring the sponsor to be a relative but i didn't ask to see it in writing...my high school friend is making way beyond the poverty line to support his wife and myself....the i-864 is a legal contract that he signed stating that he agrees to support me...i find it unreasonable that the CO will not accept him as a sponsor just because she doubts the credibility of his intention to support

bad news regarding my new sponsor. the consolar officer did not accept him. the reason is he's only my high school friend, not a relative (she said they have a new rule regarding sponsor must be a relative.) they believe that my high school friend is just doing me a favor by signing the i-864 and does not really intend to support me financially if need me (she gave me an example that if i happen to need hospitalization, will be willing to pay about $1000 for the bills)

another reason is proximity. he lives in MO, my intended residence is Dallas. she gave the same example, in an emergency situation will he be able to help?

anyone ever encounter this?

my initial sponsor is my wife's uncle. he gave all the 'required' documents as stated in the i-864. but the CO asked for further evidence: employment letter, tax return from '06 & '07, bank statement, lettter from him stating why he's willing to support me in the US. all this i believe is never stated as requirements. anyone has been asked to provide these by CO?

well this uncle was slow in providing these additional docs (it has been a month now since we asked him). that was why i turned to my high school friend who provided me his docs over the weekend.

now that my high school friend was not accepted as my sponsor, the CO asked me to use the uncle and just wait for his docs. she said i only need to submit his employment letter and bank statement, don't worry about the tax return from '06 & '07 and lettter from him stating why he's willing to support me in the US

well i guess i'm gonna have to make my 5th trip to the embassy before i get the visa...and at least 1 more after that to get my visa if everything works out...

so, write a letter saying the new person is my joint sponsor (replacing my old one) and in the i-864 form for this new sponsor it should say that he is the ONLY joint sponsor. correct?

thanks a lot

If there is only one person being sponsored then you would just file with the 1 person (the person getting you the information quickly). No mention of the other potential sponsor.

but we already submitted the i-864 for the 1st joint sponsor then get an RFE....

my wife is a USC and she's sponsoring me...

we filed by DCF and got and RFE regarding tax & employer docs for my joint sponsor in the i-864.

this joint sponsor is not responding quickly in providing these docs.

we have another joint sponsor in mind that's willing to provide the complete docs immediately.

my question is: in my 1st joint sponsor i-864, Part 1.1, we indicated that he is the ONLY joint sponsor. So when I want to use the other joint sponsor, what do i put?

do i put that he's the only joint sponsor again (replacing my 1st one, because his income alone is enough to fulfill the requirement)

or

do i put that he's 'the second of the two joint sponsors' (although in the 1st joint sponsor i-864, he's indicated as the only sponsor)

when i get the docs from the 2nd sponsor, i don't expect to wait for the docs from my 1st sponsor, and i want to just go ahead with this 2nd sponsor

thanks for the info
