IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDon't want to use an Immigration lawyer after I 130 Approved. Can I Take it from here???
If I had it to do over, I would have not paid for the legal help either, I only paid $500 but that was before I found Visa Journey, all the information my attorney gave me was available here for no cost. Could have used the $500 for other fees that I will pay later in the process. Basically Paid $500 for her to fill out forms...hindsight is 20/20. But at the time I was intimidated by the process and thought it would be helpful to have an attorney for the advice...when it was not really necessary. Unless your case is extremely complicated forgo the lawyer. It is not really needed.

Have to agree with you on that point. and as previously mentioned with computers these days the forms and the processing of checks all of that can be done on line. I don't even have to go to the DMV to renew my vehicle registration, for instance. Surely a secure means of form submission is achievable and they could just request that the paper forms be mailed in. As a follow up on it. That could end the loss of documents etc. and just might save them some money. May even speed the process. I know that every form, letter everything I have in PDF format stored online as well as locally on my computer. Any way I know the frustration your feeling. The private sector could teach them how to do it efficiently, and effectively. But it is a government bureaucracy were dealing with. Go ahead its alright to vent...lol

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTimeframe Comment
The time frame thing is tough I talk to my Fiancee in Brazil every day, we have talked many times about the slow process, and still she has not given up hope because she knows that in the end, we will be together and Married. I know that she misses me very much from our conversations. But I am thankful for the means we have now to communicate, I use MSN and Vonage International plan for phone calls. is about $40 a month for my phone service for unlimited calls to most countries in the world, as She can not call me because her phone bill would be astronomical They don't have the Vonage option in Brazil.
I am thankful to god and to her for being so patient during this process although I know it is frustrating for her that we are separated for now until we complete the k-1 visa process. The last think I will say is that through this process our relationship has grown stronger. Wishing a speedy journey to all and for your future wives and spouses much happiness.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow did you decide on a K1?
We chose the k-1 because as others have mentioned its terrible enough to be separated during our engagement, to have to deal with that being married would be far worse. The cost was never a consideration no matter what the cost is, I have found my soul mate we intend to be married as soon as she arrives, even if its just a civil wedding. Then we will plan and do the marriage ceremony (church wedding) when everything is settled and we can share that time with her family and friends in Brazil. I know that I love her and care for her very much. But all this paperwork is worth it. The only regret is I should have started the paperwork sooner but I had to wait for signed documents from her to submit them, With the petition and by mail this takes time. I am hoping all is done by the beginning of next year or sooner.....wish everyone luck on their journey.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOkay maybe I was a fool
I am sure your Fiancee would have loved those flowers, I know that mine does because I just sent her some for her birthday, The rewards are much better that way too. It is also useful because you can use the receipt for proof of an ongoing relationship when the time comes If they need more proof...lol

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNew prices for I-129F
Well I paid the higer price and it seems also the VISA fee at the consulate goes up too from 131 to 350 the AOS fee is basically the same. they combined the biometrics fee with it so when its all said in done i get to pay more. but they have me by the G****S, I would gladly pay more for a faster process. So the cost really doesn't matter, when at the end I get to be with my fiancee. It would be nice if all the illegals would have to pay as well, but thats a different thread...lol...maybe our fees would be lowere then.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHi Everyone! New to this whole procedure and a bit nervous
Mine was simple as i have lived at the same address for 21 years, hers also as she was there for over 5 years thus one address was all I needed for that but if you lived on a permanent basis while at the uni I think the better one would be the uni-address if that is where you received your mail while there. But I am not certain you must list both

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUSCIS - Holidays
No what I was thinking, because of the closures and the holidays, is November & December like slow processing months for them, long weekend for thanksgiving no work done between Christmas and New Years kind of thing as might be common in the private sector

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUSCIS - Holidays
Does the USCIS normally slow down or delay the processing of K-1 Visa's for Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Years Holidays. I would think they would being they work for the Government and that this may delay the processing. I am coming up on 5 months and still no NOA2 or even any touches. I know it is early in the process and the waiting is killing me

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBased on timeline data, your I129f may be adjudicated between
The dates are only an estimate based on others who have received their NOA1, NOA2 etc. They are not written in stone as each case is different and that is what I understand it to be. My fiancee understands this, and thank god she does because there is nothing either of us can do about when our NOA2 will come. Her words are "that she will wait as long as it takes", because she knows that I love her. I know she does not like being separated from me but in the end of it all, we both know how we feel about each other. Our love is stronger because of this. And hopefully soon we will get the news of our approval.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresParental Sabotage
Looking at your time line you are already 7 months invested in the process, and at the interview stage, why would you throw it all away, all the hard work and time spent getting to this point. If it was me I know my fiancee, I am sure that this is what I want. My decision was made when I petitioned for the visa for her. You being of legal age have a right to make your own decisions, and you don't need their permission. That being said do what you know is right for you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresplease help me...lawyer is confusing me
The 18,212 is the minimum needed @ 125% of poverty.... http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf as shown in the message above $18,999 is incorrect. More income is better but it is pretty much self explanatory. Your lawyer is wrong on the first submission to USCIS no I-134 is submitted. You reach this stage when at the embassy approval stage. after you receive the NOA2. It is then you need to provide the information on your income

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNow what?
I got my NOA2 on January 27th and they forwarded it right away to the embassy in Rio, The problem I had is that she has her interview scheduled for March 29th and has yet to receive that notice from the embassy, but me not waiting for the last minute on things I contacted the embassy by e-mail, I recommend that you contact the embassy immediately either by phone or e-mail as to the status. get any important case numbers they would issue and inquire about the interview date. In Brazil the mail moves slow and it may arrive late. I did the legwork so I would have the date as soon as possible. In your case you may need the time to get the documents assembled that you need for the interview and to make travel arrangements to the embassy.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresALRIGHT. HONESTY Please
Well I made a hard paper copy of all the documents pertaining to the K-1 visa also scanned them into a computer as separate pages, using a free PDF maker. and placed them all in a folder which I then zipped archived and it was a good thing I did as the mail to Brazil is taking forever to reach her what should have been 5 days here in the USA is now almost 15 days to reach her and she still doesn't have the hard copy,. I have the luxury of having a web site. So I placed the zip file and original folder on the site password protected so that only she could open or download it. If any pages are missing they are available to her in PDF format. She may need to do this in that her Interview is the 29th of March, and she leaves on the 22nd to be in Rio De Janiero. The just in case fall back method may have to be used to have the hard copy documents with her when she goes. So I guess I have 4 complete copies. 2 hard copies, One on the computer and one on the website.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow long
Time is only relative, I have known her for a year but it was not until after my first visit to her in Brazil was it decided now its been almost 2 years.
All I really know is I want her for my wife, And she feels the same about me. The process has been long It has been difficult, at times she has been so lonely for me and I for her. Even though we are in constant contact daily it is not the same as being with her in person, which is what we both miss the most. Now her interview date is almost here, the anxiety begins again...waiting for a decision from people who do not know us to decide our fate and grant her permission to marry me. If she were in this country and from this country it would be different we would be married. The only thing I have now is to trust in God. And hope everything goes well. I am sure many have been thru this...waiting the results of the Interview

I did not send any, because all the need for proof is that you have met in person within the 2 year window, and that of your intention to marry, I included some supporting evidence, photographs of us together in Brazil. that was it. now we are man and wife and will file shortly for the Adjustment of Status

I would have to agree that lawyers are a waste of time if your case is straightforward and simple as it seems yours is. You will need the money for the other things that will come next AOS is apx $1100 for the fees .... If it is any kind of indication I have at least $5,0000 spent so far and she is here we have AOS to do yet. The money was spent on fees, airfares, hotel and medical exam expenses this is not including what she spent R$3500 0r $2000 USD so save your money the instructions here are accurate and will save you $$$$
