Middle East and North AfricaThe hoping not to be denied at Casablanca thread

Personally, I think a more effective way to combat fraud would be for the Americans to educate themselves, contemplate red flags and warning signs, do whatever test or investigation they need to do to ensure themselves their SO is real, and so on. I'd rather see the consulate give out a pamphlet than a rejection and let me make my own mistakes. ;) But that's just me.

I agree 100%...I would like to think I am smart enough to make my own mistakes  I too can appreciate what they "think" they are protecting us from, but let's face it, I have had my heart broken by some lousy American men and I am willing to take a chance on a wonderful guy who happens to be Moroccan. ;)

Middle East and North AfricaThe hoping not to be denied at Casablanca thread

Jackie,
I still haven't received the packet 3 here yet, but I called the Dept of State visa hotline (202-663-1225) and they told me his interview is 30 June! Maybe you should call them and get an update.. You just need the case number from NVC. Still hoping we get those damn papers this week so he can go to his medical.. Good luck to you!

Sarah

Thank you for the suggestions, I will call the Dept of State today and hope they have that information. I will also email the embassy yet again. Hopefully he can go pick up a new packet...because it is probably lost in the mail...with his cards and christmas presents and birthday present..etc...I hate the mail system there!

Middle East and North AfricaThe hoping not to be denied at Casablanca thread

So I've read suggestions about a thread like this getting started.. Usually threads I start die horrible deaths, I hope that's not the case with this one, because those of us going through the consulate at Casablanca need support from each other, and to hear some positive stories. I'm hoping we get some GOOD news in this thread.

We're waiting right now for Casa to send us a packet 3. They've had our file since the 31 May. I called them last week and was told they haven't scheduled an interview for him yet.

I know there are a few interviews coming up in the next two weeks for VJ people at Casa. We're praying for everyone who goes through Casa that things go well and the tide turns there.. Please let us all know what's going on so we can compare notes..

Thanks ^_^
Sarah

I am whole-heartedly supporting this thread! We are waiting for our packet 3 as well. NOA2 came on May 17th, but nothing since. According to the consulate they had not received our file as of last June 5th, but I know it left the NVC on June 1st. Hopefully we will see something this week and all will go smooth. It is so nerve-wracking. I am hoping we all see an upswing of approvals out of Casa B-)

Middle East and North AfricaEmergency

Hi VJ members!

I want to reschedule my appointment that is scheduled on 25th Sep.2012 to another day.
The reason why this decision has been taken is cause of the I-134 Affidavit of Support..
My fiancee mailed it to me a week ago and i didn't receive it yet and today is friday, I didn't get it sigh.
I don't want to wait to get the mail tomorrow cause i don't think i will get the mail tomorrow saturday and sunday they don't work, it will be left only monday. Well, there's no guarantee i will receive the mail on monday and tuesday 25 i have the appointment..
I'd like to know how to reschedule this appointment for another day please?

by the way, my fiancee has just turned 46, it's her birthday today, no birthday gift will be enough to make up for the the gift she gave me - the gift of her love and I want to be her gift this year.. ;)
I hope everything will work out well.
thanks for reading.

I would have your fiance email you a scanned copy...then you can print it out to have at the interview, rather than changing the day. The consulate might ask you to return with the original, but I don't believe that moving the interview is your best option. If you are approved based on all other things, they would just give you a form and ask you to return with the original.

Good luck with the interview.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurestranslation of offical documents
The most important documents my husband brought were his translated divorce decree and his translated birth certificate. We just used the translations he had from his interview. He did not get new ones and we had no problems. You do not need to resubmit the criminal record clearance for AOS.

Congratulations again!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresinfo on cheap hotel near US Consulant
When I stayed in Casa last May, I stayed at the hotel Rivoli. It was clean and I got a great deal by booking through a website called Otel.com. It actually worked out to less than $50 per night USD. If you can find a good rate online and they have an opening, I would recommend it. It is a very short walk to the consulate. Good Luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-230 Address, can it change?
Hello everyone, I hope you're enjoying the holidays smile.gif

My interview is scheduled for January 12th (as you can imagine, I'm very very excited but also very very nervous!). I have a couple questions I was hoping you could help me with:

My wife is sponsoring me for a CR-1 visa, with my father in law acting as a "household member" sponsor (he filed an I-864A in addition to my wife's I-864). In my DS-230 form, I included their address as my intended residence, since my wife lives with her parents, and our plan is to stay there till I'm settled at work and can afford a place of our own.

However, in the time since we filed the support paperwork, her salary has improved thanks to more hours at work, and she's now in a position to afford an apartment on her own. She's found a gorgeous one just down the road from her parents', and would very much like to take it. It's a loft-style apartment downtown, her dream kind of place smile.gif But would this be a problem, given that I gave her parents' address as my intended address in the US? And does the fact that her dad signed up as a household member sponsor prevent us from moving?

Sorry if the questions are silly, we're just really nervous about getting it right tongue.gif

Thanks in advance.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPassport stamp off by 1 day
Hey all, my wife sent me scans of her passport bio page, as well as her entry/exit stamps for her visits to me, to take to my interview.

She visited twice last year, from January 21st to April 8th, and from July 8th to October 5th. But when she left in october, Venezuelan immigration stamped her "Oct 4th".

My question is, should I still take the scans to the interview? I also have printouts of her e-ticket showing the correct departure date. The boarding pass was accidentally thrown out though. Will the discrepancy matter to the CO? I mean, it's not as though there's a weeks-long difference, obviously whoever saw her off hadn't adjusted their stamp to the current date.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOut of USA and received Nvc 1ST Package
On the DS-3032... We received it, but took a while before mailing it. And during a call to NVC customer service, we were told my wife (the USC) had already been registered as my agent. To this day I have no idea if we just took too long to mail it and it defaulted to the petitioner, but we just let it be.

My wife was visiting me in Venezuela when we were received the DS-3032 and were invoiced for the AOS and IV fees. We made the payments online, no problem

Do make sure the money leaves your account, though. Our AOS payment was made without issues, but although the IV fee appeared as "paid" (downloaded the receipt and everything) for almost a week, we noticed the money hadn't come out of the account, so we logged in to check, and the status had reverted to "unpaid". We called the NVC and were told it was likely a bank issue. We re-did the payment and had no more issues.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support
Take a look here (AOS Poverty Guidelines).

If you have a co-sponsor, both of you will have to fill out an I-864 form.

The I-864A if for household members who make their income and/or assets available to you to help you meet the sponsorship requirements. The definition of "household member" is very carefully detailed in the form itself, so look it over carefully if you think you might want to use it.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresnervouse about interview ( venting and ranting forum )
Here's what I'm carrying in my little evidence briefcase:

-150 pages of emails, text messages, and chats, covering the last five years (we've known each other for seven, but this is as far back as my current email account goes). I included a couple emails from each month from october 2005 to now.
-A Christmas card/letter my now-mother-in-law sent me in December 2002, showing how I've been close to the family for ages.
-Signed letters from my in-laws, and my mother (dad passed away in 2008) attesting to the legitimacy of the relationship. They are not notarized, though.
-About 30 pictures, most of them from the wedding (200 were taken, I chose the ones that show the progression of the ceremony and celebration, as well as pics of us with our guests).
-Scans of my wife, father-in-law, and mother-in-law's passports showing their entry and exit stamps for their visits to Venezuela.
-Copies of their e-tickets for their flights here, as well as a scan of my wife's boarding pass from her first trip here.

Not sure if they'll ask to see any of it, and Ashley thinks 150 pages of email is overkill, but I'd rather have too much than too little. I'm still kicking myself for not saving my old phone bills, and because I recently changed computers, my skype call history covers only recent months. She keeps telling me we're good to go, but she married a neurotic of the highest order :D

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresnervouse about interview ( venting and ranting forum )
PS-- (can't edit for some reason)

I've just finished putting my supporting evidence together, just in case. I'm bringing about 150 pages of emails, chats, and texts going back to 2005 (a sampler of about 200 emails out of 15,000 or so we've exchanged :P), a card my then-future mother in law sent me back in 2002, affidavits from my MIL and FIL, as well as one from my mother, and pictures (mostly from the wedding, as we're not big on pictures, shy buggers that we are). I wish I'd had the foresight to save my phone bills, but my mother only saves the actual receipt, and discards the call breakdown pages. Oh, well. Most of our conversations take place over Skype or MSN, so they wouldn't show much in the way of international calls anyway.

Am I rambling? You betcha. I don't know what I'm gonna do with myself the remainder of the week. I'm getting pics taken tomorrow, buying a nice accordion folder for my paperwork, and a storage tube for my x-ray. After that, I'll be officially done till it's time to fly into Caracas on Monday. I'm thinking now would be a great time to re-read the entire Lord of the Rings. And The Silmarillion. Maybe take up Norwegian while I'm at it (her family on her father's side is from there originally).

Many many congratulations to those who've gotten their visas already, strength and patience to those in AR/AP, and lots of luck to all of us getting ready for the main event :)

My interview is officially a week from today. I'm so excited! And so nervous! Next Tuesday represents the end (hopefully!) of eight months of running around like chickens with our heads cut off, getting documents together (sometimes not a trivial matter in Venezuela), getting translations done, mailing stuff, and just generally biting our fingernails off. With a little luck, I'll be joining my beautiful wife for good before the month is out :)

Ashley (my wife) sent over some Christmas presents for the family. On the envelope my Christmas card came in, she wrote "See you soon :)" My favorite present ever :) Until next Tuesday, we hope! :D

I checked off the SS# request on my DS230, but a month and a half after my arrival, I still hadn't received a card. I went to the local Social Security office, and they had no record of me ever applying for a number. I was issued one, and had the card within a week.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPOE Question? Do they ask for X-Rays?
Stick it in the suitcase and then frame it as a souvenior when it's here in the USA. As far as I have seen, and from what my wife experienced...no one will ever ask for that X-Ray.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFiled I-130 - is changing addresses a problem?
Hi!

I searched for an answer for this in the forum, but couldn't find any (I'm not a very proficient searcher though...).

I've filed my I-130 petition for my wife in Canada to come down to the US.
However, I've recently found a new house (in anticipation of her immigrating down here), and am seriously considering selling my place and buying and relocation to the new home.

Is it a problem for me to change addresses while my I-130 is in process? Will this cause any issues or delays?
My primary concern here is getting the paperwork processed in as timely a fashion as possible, so if this would cause an issue or delay, I'd rather just wait out the process and buy a new place after it's all been said and done.

Any advice on the matter is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVSC - there's hope!!! Approved I-130 today!!!
Hi everyone!

I just had to share some good news - I don't know if the VSC has sped up or what's going on. I applied for I-130 for my wife on Dec. 26th, 2008 - I received the notice of acceptance on Dec. 31, 2008. I had already come to terms that I probably wasn't going to see approval until late 2008 at best...

However, much to my BIG surprise, I checked my e-mail and discovered our I-130 was APPROVED today!!! I couldn't believe it at first and went to check the USCIS website online status to be sure - and it read the same thing. APPROVED.

Not sure how this miracle happened, but I thought I'd share it with all of you to perhaps give some hope to those who've been waiting for soooo long. Maybe it means the VSC has sped up a bit?? I hope for everyone's sake that's the truth.

Thanks to all for the support through this continuing ordeal!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports5 MONTHS SINCE NOA1

Ok, as of today, it has been 5 long months since we received our NOA1. I KNOW that Vermont is backlogged for like a month or so. Therefore, I keep in mind that it can take a couple more weeks til we'll receive our NOA2.

Because of the fact Vermont is backlogged, doesn't mean I can try to put in a service request. This is going to be the first time for me to put in a service request. Should I E-mail them every day, call them every day? til they get fed up with me and work on our case??

So, I am about to start E-mailing them, but somehow I see different E-mail addresses on "search". What is their correct E-mail address???

Thank you in advance!!

But I do get frustrated from people who just filed are already desperate of the waiting. And reading people complain, doesn't put a smile on my face at all.. It's all so negative. Be happy that they are progressing your file (NOA1), and what are 5 months apart compared to a life time together? just saying..
