Middle East and North AfricaMENA men say the darndest things....
I love this thread, it is making me smile....my husband says so many things that just make me laugh each day. I know that accent helps too.

Like: instead of "me too" when he agrees with me...its always "so mine" it always melts my heart...
and always on the phone..."have a nice day" no matter what he always says that. I called him to tell him I would be home in five minutes..."ok, have a nice day" its just adorable.

As for the food...he is obsessed with ketchup. He puts it on EVERYTHING, unless we are making Moroccan food...pizza, chicken, eggs...and even on Thanksgiving turkey (on top of the gravy)...gotta love him.

:)

Middle East and North AfricaAffidavit of support....I-134

Thanks Jackie,
When i except to get this letter from the NVC?
we received the NOA2 by Feb the 17th!

In my husband's case it took one month between NA02 and the letter from the consulate. It depends on the volume...some people get them in a couple of weeks, others wait more than a month. In two weeks you can call the NVC for an update, they will let you know if your case is on it's way to the consulate, then after another week I emailed the consulate to ask if his packet had been sent and interview date issued. I know a month seems like a long time...but it flew by.

Middle East and North AfricaAffidavit of support....I-134
There was a period of time last year (when my husband interviewed) when they were requiring the I-864 out of Casa, I believe now they are back to the I-134. Use whatever form they request on the interview letter and you should be safe. If you are not sure and don't mind doing an extra form, you could just send both to your fiance just in case.

Good Luck,
Jackie

Yes, if they are telling you to use the I-134, use that form. From what I understand Casa has gone back and forth on this. Last summer when my husband interviewed we needed the 864. Use the form they are telling you. Good luck!

Sorry, I am sure you are on edge! I sent my husband's paperwork global express from the postal service and it took 4 business days. He lived in Casablanca, so luckily it delivered quickly once it was released from customs. The mail service there is terrible, the best you can do is continue to track it online if you can and have him go to the post-office and request it as soon as it is released and arrives. Try not to panic just yet

Good Luck,

Middle East and North AfricaExperiences with the Consulate in Casablanca
Sorry to hear about your denial. As Sarah said, there is very little rhyme or reason with the Casablanca consulate. I do believe that in most cases they have decided to approve or deny before you come in. To help, here is the background on my case. My now husband was interviewed by being asked the same questions over and over again, as if they were looking for a slip, but he maintained his cool. The frustrating part for us is when he left, they did not give him an answer but kept his passport. I am sure they just wanted to comb throught his documents looking for a reason to deny. In the end, they called him one week later to pickup his visa. I feel lucky because we got off easy by Casablanca standards. We did have a couple red flags, only one visit and he has a sister and brother-in-law in the states.

Our history:
Met online - 12/2008
My only visit to Morocco - 5/9/2009-5/23 (only 2 weeks)
Filed K1 Visa - 1/2010
Interview - 7/2010
Got my husband here - 10/2010
Age difference - he is 2 years older

We did have a backup plan to get married if we were denied, but luckily that wasn't necessary. In the end we are now suffering through the AOS process and the trials of finding a job. This process is definitely not for the faint of heart, but I can't imagine my life without that crazy man. Don't give up, fight like hell to be together. Good luck.

Middle East and North AfricaHow important are multiple visits?
It doesn't seem you have too many red flags, IMO, but I would just be cautious that they may question how quickly you filed. I only visited my husband once prior to filing for 13 days. But we did wait another 7 months before filing. We had no issues at all. Unfortunately you are dealing with one of the most unpredictable consulates there is. The best thing you can do is just prepare your fiance well. I would bet you should be fine...but I have seen denials on couples I thought were a "guarantee." Good luck and keep us posted!

Congratulations! Sounds like you had a great experience. Good luck to you :D Wise choice to wait until after Ramadan, we did the same...I am a little worried about my husbands first Ramadan here (I am not Muslim either, so it will be difficult to say the least). Good luck with the job hunt too! I do love hearing good stories out of Casa!

2 months isn't too bad :) So that's when he will be coming to the US?

Yes, I can definitely make it two more months! He will be on his way here around the middle to end of October, not sure of the date yet...but I am dying to see him! :) Somehow the webcam just doesn't quite cut it...I certainly know you can relate! I wish it was sooner, but he just wants to make sure he has everything in order when he comes.

I hope things smooth out for you Jackie and that you have a long happy marriage. Sounds like you are doing fairly well, which is a good sign :)

I think it helps when those of us who survived the gauntlet let others know. Glad you have lasted so long. That is inspiration for me, even if I'm fairly certain we will be fine at this point!

Thank you so much...I think we are definitely on our way to a long happy marriage...and the good always outweighs the bad :luv:

Thank you so much for sharing your story! It certainly gives me hope and makes me smile to read about your successful marriage. I really enjoyed your insight on the first year. I am in the midst of that first year right now and some days it is so difficult, especially helping him to become more independent...the job hunting...and the learning to drive. But we are so in love and we work through those. There are some days that I sit back and think I must have been crazy for starting this process...but most days I am just so happy we are together. It is funny to look back and think that the actually visa process was the easy part, its the adjustments and compromises that are the truely difficult part.

Thank you again for sharing!

Tany,
I am so sorry to hear about your denial. My heart goes out to you...I hope you can get them to keep your petition there and give your husband another interview. (F)

It sounds like a rough day for interviews in Casa, I did see something earlier about another denial (for a K1) out of there today.

Middle East and North Africajust another silly question....
Be careful not to send to much...from what I have heard and others here have attested to, sometimes too much sent with the application is a huge red flag. Make sure you have enough to prove you meet the requirements to file...but I would not send too much more. When I sent in our 129-F, I only included maybe 3 or 4 emails, maybe 4 pictures, receipts from my trip and some receipts from mail I had sent him. We had no issues. When interview time came, that is when I prepared my now husband with multiple emails (still only like 20 over the course of a year and a half), some addtional pictures and phone records and a letter from my sister just showing family support. Of course it is Casa and things can go either way at the interview stage, so be prepared with a lot more for that. But as for the application, be careful of overkilling with evidence. Good Luck!

Hi everybody. Sorry to hear about the recent denial. And currently they are requiring the I134 for K1 interviews. We had our interview yesterday...Feb 2 @ 3pm, had a woman interviewer...he was asked to talk about me, my daughter, my dad (and expanding questions along the way). Was told APPROVED!!!! And need to turn in I134, and updated paperwork, then will receive visa!!! So hoping on next week for the visa in hand INSHALLAH!!!! Was called a week before for him to come in, was told "The CO would like to see you, bring your passport & you will be told whatelse is needed when you come in." So stay strong everybody rebuttling/refiling...DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

Middle East and North AfricaThe hoping not to be denied at Casablanca thread

Ladies, I know I've asked variations of this question before and we've touched on this topic previously, but if you'll bear with me I'm hoping for advice once more on what to "front load" in my I-129F packet. I've gotten a few opinions from various places but different people's advice seems to conflict, so I was hoping that since we have this thread for the Casa people maybe we can come up with something a bit more comprehensive....I'd like to know where you stand on the issue of front-loading: whether you think it's the only reliable way to get proof in front of the CO's eyes, or whether you think it makes you look suspiciously over-prepared or defensive.

To kick things off, here's what I'm considering including with my I-129F packet. This is in addition to boarding passes and itineraries - I'm just listing the "relationship" proof here:

1. Letter supporting the relationship, from my mother on behalf of my parents.
2. Around 50-60 pictures, 4 to a page. Includes several of me with many family members, and also a few of us videochatting with each other's immediate families.
3. A roughly 1 or 1.5 page long response to "Question 18."
4. Copies of phone bills showing we text frequently and talk a couple of times a day.
5. Copies of chat logs indicating that we've been IMing basically everyday for over a year.
6. Copies of videochat logs showing we talk most days of the week for a few hours at a time.
7. Screen shots of email inbox showing maybe 150 emails and a few hundred Facebook alerts showing communications between us.
8. Around 5 sample emails.
9. I've considered adding screen shots from Facebook showing that we share mutual friends and aren't hiding each other.
10. I've considered submitting around 125 pages of chat excerpts. This would cover a few pages from at least 1 chat per month that we've been talking, and more from time periods in our relationship where something "big" was happening, such as "meeting" the parents online. This doesn't include any full-length chats.

I'm on the fence about how much to send. My gut says that's overkill and I'd like to drop # 9 and 10 from that list, at least, but I've been advised by people with more experience than me in both directions.

Sorry to keep harping on this point, I just want to make sure I'm working with the broadest set of experiences as possible. I promise I won't ask again.

My thoughts are it seems like too much for just the petition. It sounds like a good amount for the interview stage. We used A LOT less proof and were just fine. For the petition the only thing they are looking for is that you meet all requirements and have met in person in the past two years. It is the embassy you need to prove your on-going relationship to. IMO you may just be overwhelming the USCIS. I think the letter from your parents is a good idea, but all the chat logs and things just aren't necessary at this point.

Of course, many people have had success with a lot of front loading...while others were viewed as "trying to hard". There is no foolproof way to get through this process at the interview stage, but at this point, they are just looking for your intent to marry, legal ability to marry, and proof that you have met.

Good Luck,
Jackie

Personally, I think a more effective way to combat fraud would be for the Americans to educate themselves, contemplate red flags and warning signs, do whatever test or investigation they need to do to ensure themselves their SO is real, and so on. I'd rather see the consulate give out a pamphlet than a rejection and let me make my own mistakes. ;) But that's just me.

I agree 100%...I would like to think I am smart enough to make my own mistakes  I too can appreciate what they "think" they are protecting us from, but let's face it, I have had my heart broken by some lousy American men and I am willing to take a chance on a wonderful guy who happens to be Moroccan. ;)
