Happy Birthday JAE!!

Hey Lita,

Fi tell yuh deh truth gurl...we haven't really thought that hard about it! It will be VERY small (we want to do a bigger one in JA on our 3-5th anniversary). Since he will PROBABLY be here late march...we will have til late june to git married. We have talked about May 23, 2008 (exactly 18 months after we first met)...but we'll see.

I have imagined 15-20 of our closest family in my church's old chapel (it's quaint & much smaller than the current one +
I married 'The A$$hole' (my ex) in the current one.) I am wearing a very simple wedding dress or suit...probably off-white or champange. Ken will be super handsome in his tux. His brother is his best man...my boys & my Dad will give me away! biggrin.gif Then a wedding brunch afterwards. We are planning a family honeymoon in ATL & FL.(Disney) when the kids git out of school end of June.

I just want to get him here first! Then mi nuh really bizniz if we a git married pon deh Brooklyn Bridge!...WHATEVER...JUST GIT HERE KENNY!! laughing.gif Gurl, I have learned that the wedding isn't nearly as important as the marriage! luv.gif Which is what I am REALLY looking forward to

Bless-Bless,
Gill

Gill u know seh u really mad. My mommy is reading this and cracking up.

Gill is wonderful, Isn't she? I love her to death! laughing.gif

Question for those that have their SO's here AND have been here awhile........how many can say their SO "changed" when they got here?

You know I used to accuse Tony of changing in the beginning. It took me awhile to realize that we just didn't know each other that well to begin with. We had only spent time together in Jamaica - while I was on vacation pretty much and he was surrounded by family and friends and everything he was used to. Fast forward to the U.S. and I have a job to go to every day, a house to clean, dinner to cook, and I'm surrounded by MY family and friends. All of a sudden, he is the one in an unfamiliar place with no job, no family, no friends and he has to adjust to the fast pace of the U.S. We can no longer just hang out on the beach all day sipping pina coladas and Guiness and planning what club we'll go to that night no0pb.gif Real life has kicked in and it's a rude awakening for both of us. So I think neither one of us really "changed" we just begin to see each other in different situations than we ever had before.

Oh man this is such an insightful and smart thing to say!! Well stated!!!!

I agree completely....well stated! kicking.gif

I always have to remind myself that being on vacation in JA is just that.....vacation. Life up here in Pittsburgh sure won't be like sitting on the beach all day! LOL

Speaking of when and how we met, we haven't compared stories in a long while. How did you ladies meet your boyfriend/fiance/husband? How long did you know each other before you filed? How many times have you been to Jamaica?

I was on a Single's Cruise on Carnival. It stopped off in Grand Cayman and then Jamaica. While in Jamaica, I went on a "booze cruise" to Dunn's River Falls. Tony worked on the catamaran that took us on the cruise (the Cool Jazz). It was love at first sight!! luv.gif We flirted, he got me drunk on rum punch and the rest is history devil.gif I gave him my number when I got off the boat and he called me about a week later. We begin talking every day, and 2 months later I went back to JA. I was there 6 times altogether before he moved here to the U.S. Since then, we've been back 3 times together and him once by himself for a funeral. We really only knew each other for about 5 months before we filed the K-1. We didn't officially get engaged until after we sent in the paperwork!! blush.gif We just knew we couldn't live without each other and if we had to get married more quickly than we liked, so be it. This December, we will have been married for THREE years kicking.gif heart.gif luv.gif

Nice story, Rhonda.

I met Andre when I was in Jamaica visiting my boyfriend. He was a bartender at our hotel. I visited a few more times and became friends. He would call me from time to time. One trip ended with me bruised and crying, Andre setting us up with two slightly unusable hotel rooms side-by-side (maintenance man friend), and him talking me through some issues. 2 months later (yah, I know, I'm really slow and stupid sometimes), I broke up with the guy my friends had dubbed Jacka$$, and Andre and I started talking more and more. I knew him a little over a year when we filed. By the time he came here, I had visited him 14 times. Today, we have been married almost 16 months. Life is good. Oh, and BTW, Jacka$$ is still trying to stalk me LD. Some things never change.

ha ur story sounds like mine i was visiting someone else when i met chris chris had nerve to come over and ask me softly is that your boyfriend! i was like this man is crazy while i was sitting next to my then friend and his back was turned looking at tv in the bar yeh but when i visited that guy that trip i knew he was not for me and yes he still trying to get back and says he knows what he did wrong and keep apologizing...i say no sir i have moved on!

Ok, so I had just finalized my divorce in October 2006, after 8 years of marriage 2 actually married and 6 years of 'trying' to make it work separately. I swore I would NEVER EVER get married again. That was just NOT for me!

My family had planned a trip back to JA for my Godparent's 50th Anniversary, in November 2006.

I was staying at a hotel near MoBay and Ken worked there! He said 'Hi' my first day there and I grumbled 'Hi' back and kissed my teeth at him...Surprisingly, he laughed at my response. I was so anti-love and men at that point. I didn't want to hear it. Everyday, he would find me and make sure to say 'Hi' or ask me 'How I was doing?' (Most days I'd just give him the death stare and tell fi leave me alone) Well, he asked me to go to dinner with him, I laughed at first, then realized I hadn't really gone out since I had gotten to Mo Bay, I agreed. We went to the Ville and the Pelican for a Wacky Wednesday party and danced the night away! I hadn't had such a good time in YEARS!!

We went to Coral Cliff the next night and just talked until I missed ther darn bus back to the hotel. And we went out the night after that! I really started to warm-up to him and enjoyed his company, sense of humour and his passion to do better in life!

He told me I would marry him on the the day I left and I just laughed in earnest then.

We exchanged numbers and I went home. We've spoken every single day since. Sometime around Christmas we realized that we had fallen in love and I was scared witless! I went down to JA in February and had a really good time with Ken again. Then I went back to JA. with my sons in June, (I needed to make sure that they would get along with him.) And the last night I was there he asked me to marry him and surprisingly ...I said yes!!

I actually started thinking about filing for him in December, but took my time and made sure it all clicked. I did. I have never been so happy. I have finally found my soulmate. I didn't believe in that ####### before, but little by little this man broke the wall around my heart and showed me what TRUE love is, and for that I am forever grateful and thank God EVERYDAY for blessing me with such a good, kind, motivated, and sincerely sweet man.

So I say all this to say...Never say never...cause you never know what Jah has in store for you!

Blessings heart.gif,
Gill

Yeah Gill;

I know what you mean. After leaving an abusive Ja man after being married for 13 years, I swore off JA men and marriage till I met Mike. I want nothing more than to have him here with me so we can get married and start our lives together. kicking.gif kicking.gif

Don't all laugh at once but I met Dave at Margaritaville in Ocho Rios! I know, typical right? We met earlier this summer while I was down there with my sister and some friends. This was my 4th trip to JA when I met Dave but before that, I never met anyone that clicked. I've met some friends down there who I used to talk to on the phone here and there but nothing significant.

Anyway, we hung out for the two weeks I was down there and kept in touch on the phone and with letters. I went back again in Sept to see him for a week and the rest is history! laughing.gif

I filed for him Oct 5th - got the NAO1 on the 12th in the mail.....Back to JA next month! kicking.gif kicking.gif

We go to the Embassy at about 6:30 there were about 15 people outside. We waited for the Embassy car park to open, then about 6:45 there were like 30 people outside, it was not too bad we walked up on the side on the right for those with 7am interviews that line went fast then 715 then 730.We were in right on time. Gaurd asked to see our paper. He asked who i was and then let us both in. Security checked through our bags, then we walked through the courtyard to the next door. A man was there behind a desk with another security agent giving a speech about what papers are needed to be signed, and to sign your police report then gave us a pink long slip and took the interview letter. We then went thru another securtity thing and entered in to section A. and sat down until our name was called and we seemed like we were playin musical chairs as someone got up the next person moved over smile.gif people were sitting there handwriting the forms that came in packet 3! some went up to the agent at section A and kept getting sent back to fill out things correctly. They called my fiance up he opens his folder and they say you seem to be very organized. She filled out a pink form checking off what we needed and in order so we went over to the side and put those papers in order and returned to the window. She asked me for job letter, tax returns and i handed her all the fincancial stuff she waved and said no more lol our file was the biggest one! its in a pink folder. She then said go to section B we went there sat down others were getting fingerprinted. Some were asked if they ever committed any crime or traveled anywhere out of the country. We got there the man asked who i was, i told him then he fingerprinted my fiance and sent us off to section C. As i was sitting in section B i was hearin WHO i wanted us to get to for the interview lady number 21 or 23 they sounded nice, helpful and cheery. So i say lets sent on the front row so i can hear. So all it all there were alot of families there with lots of children. About 3 got sent to get DNA test as they added the fathers name late. One guy was there with his daughter, she looked to be about 8-10 she says why did u take so long to do this what were u out of the country! were you DEAD! she was loud too everyone laugh. One lady got approve in like 2 min they didnt ask her nothing really. One guy was trying to adopt someone he raised but he had no proof of any kind to support his case he was gettin smart with the consular officer but she remain calm and said sir im really trying to help you here so calm down. She was very helpful with him. Did not witness any denials. One couple was up there over 30 minutes i dont know what happened with that. They called my fiances name and he jumped! lol they said his entire name over the loud speaker. So we go to the very last counter, 24. She says hello she asks who i am. We are both there smiling away at her looking pleasant. I say his fiance she says oh GREAT! so then she asks him if he has any form of sickness or illness, he says no. She asks has he ever committed any crime, he says no. She asks when did you meet and i answer Dec 30 we both kinda answered. She said how many times have u been here i say TEN... she says wow and smiles...She oh all this information in such short of time. Just this past Dec, she asks again...She had a hard time flipping over our heavy folder smile.gif Then says when will u get married so he says Dec 30th the day we met so she says awwwwww. She says to him you dont have 7 wives in another country do you. He laughs and says oh nooo. She pulls out the little pink small paper and says congratulations and then tells him where to go to airpak. I think thats all.

WHOA!!! So I guess that pile of paperwork did payoff!! laughing.gif laughing.gif . Good for you JA.
Blessings,
Gill

P.S.- I love your wedding date...very romantic! luv.gif

Yeah...it sounds like all your hard work finally paid off! Loved the interview story too.....how about people were filling out packet 3 stuff AT the Interview?! LOL

Hey VJ fam...I just wanted to jump in on the conversation about the fibroids etc. I don't have any children either and I had some removed in 2005 after they got really big but no problems since. It depends on your situation if you need to get them out or not. Unless it's really medically necessary, I wouldn't worry about them....you can still have kids whether they take them out or not....depending on your age etc.

Hope this was useful! smile.gif

I just received NOA2 email yesterday for K-1 and was just wondering....Can the DS230 be sent in once Kingston embassy receives the case or do you technically have to wait till they get around to sending out packet 3?

Seems like some filers are making appointments to just "drop it off" at the embassy to help speed up getting the interview scheduled and it works. Any thoughts about that? Also, Can the DS230 be sent in by the me as long as it's already filled out and my fiance signed it?

Any insight would be helpful or PM me if you wanna share.

Tonisha smile.gif

Once the Embassy receives your case, you can submit the DS-230. Please do not wait for the Packet 3 to arrive. Here is a link for the DS-230.

http://www.state.gov...ation/81807.pdf

This is the last document that is needed to schedule an interview.

Thanks Mrs. Scott! You're absolutely right....I will send in the Ds-230 as soon as Kingston receives our case. Gill and Jalove told me the same thing because that's all they need to schedule the interview. The other documents you bring with you later. We filled out the DS230 last month and I'll be in JA in a couple weeks to follow up.

Thanks again for responding,

I am afraid you are going to have to get a lawyer on both counts.

If he's on the mortgage, you can either sue him or let it go into forclosure and cut your losses. I would sue if it were me.

If he is paying child support regularly, even without a court ordered agreement, he does have some rights. I agree that you have the right to claim the child every single year at this time. But, given the other developments, it is just a matter of time before he wants to do every other or push for every for himself. You will have to go to court on that and hammer out an agreement.

It's sad that all this is going on around the child.

I agree J.G.

U might want to sue him so he can be held accountable for half of the debt your incurring by having to pay the full mortgage every month. J.G. is right....one of u has to pay it or it can be let go in foreclosure.

The bright side is it sounds like u already have another house for you and your son to move too so depending on how important it is to you to "keep" this first house....I would sue....see if that gets him in action and if not, I say cut my losses and move onto the new house when u can. It's a shame to take a loss on a debt like that all for some foolishness, but sometimes peace of mind is better salvation than good credit!! wink.gif

Damien and I spent all of our free time together so we need a break sometimes. We work the same hours, go to gym together, grocery shop, movies....I enjoy my "me" time.

There some really nice people on this thread. I met five of them in person so far and talked to many more on the phone. We have a strong support system...we have laughed, cried and supported each other over the years...it's nice.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaScheduling of Interviews in Jamaica
I recently got approved for K-1 and now just waiting for NVC to receive my info and get it to the embassy in Kingston.

My question is....How soon after embassy gets your case can you expect an interview to be scheduled? I heard they "cutoff" scheduling interviews after a certain day/week each month and if you don't make the cutoff, you wait till the next month. Any thoughts?

I know not to expect a date until atleast March, but just trying to gain insight about the process. wacko.gif Does it help to "drop off" the DS 230 in person vs. waiting on Packet 3?

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaQuestion about police reports
Hey ladies,

Question for any of you who might know.....

When Dave goes up to Kingston to get the Police Report requested.....How Long Does it Take to Complete the Paperwork, get fingerprinted, pay for it etc.???

He's supposed to be at the Embassy at 12:30p.m. on the 26th to drop off the DS 230....Will he have enough time (if he gets to Kingston WAY early) to atleast go and request the police report BEFORE he drops off the DS230 or will that require two different trips to Kingston? Just Curious. wacko.gif

Lastly, Do they SEND the police reports out to the beneficiary in the mail or will Dave be required to go back up to Kingston to actually Pick it up in person? Anyone who has recent experience with any of this stuff please write back or PM me to let me know. I don't leave till' Friday so any feedback would be helpful!

Question for all those who filed K-1 for fiance in Jamaica....

How long does it take for Kingston to receive our cases once we're approved? Secondly, can the DS230 Part I be submitted as soon as Kingston receives the case or should you technically wait for your fiance to get Packet 3?

Some are dropping the DS230 off in person and some are just sending it in after they get packet 3 so I'm looking for some insight about the process. Do you need an appointment to "drop off" the DS230 if that's how you're going to submit it? wacko.gif

Any advice would be appreciated!

Tonisha

Tonisha,
I filed a K-3; therefore, my case had taken a little longer. You should have an interview 2-3 months after the Embassy receives the DS-230. Don't quote me on how long it takes for the NVC to notify Kingston. I think it was a month or less.

For the DS-230, there are two options (1) Make an appointment by e-mail to drop it off. OR (2) Send the form to the Embassy by courier (e.g. Air Pak, DHL, Fed Ex). Therefore, you have a signature to verify receipt of the envelope.

When we went to pick up the Packet 3 in person, we had to make an appointment. I saw people get turned away because your name must be on the security officer's list. There is a clip board that the security checks before you are allowed to enter the building.

In the mean time, get all of your ducks in a row (Non-Impediment, fiance's police certificate & birth certificate, tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, employment letter). Planning ahead is a great way to occupy your time. Have all of your documents neatly organized. Let us know if you have any more questions.

Mrs. Scott

Thanks for your insight. I found out it can be dropped off once you shedule a time to do so but thanks!

My fiance did the no impediment and police certif. already and some of it we got done on my prior trip in December. We also got extras of his birth certificate as J.G. instructed. (Thanks Jomo's Girl) LOL

I did an earlier version of the affidavit of support a few months ago and had it notarized so I've been collecting tax info, w-2's etc. and have more than 3 years worth of stuff. I know to do another affidavit closer to interview time and have it notarized as well. I'll keep chatting with othe VJer's to see if i'm missing anything too. smile.gif

The NVC told me to tell anyone else whose waiting for an April Interview that they should here something soon because the Embassy waits till' they get a bunch of DS230's and then Schedules everybody all at one time etc. so hang in there!

Hey there everyone,

I know it's been quite awhile....and thank you to those that have PM'd me to touch base, I truly apologize that I haven't responded.

Life, just has been ....crazy....as always. Five months of the thread was just way to much catching up on .. I'm sure there are loads of congratulations, sorrows and challenges.....never ever ever know which way our lives are going to go, especially in this craziness of the VISA journey.

First and foremost....Craig FINALLY moved out !!! It is a TOTAL blessing and was LONG overdue, but he HAS to stand on his own 2 feet "as a man" and be responsible, learn how to pay bills, work hard, etc etc etc. He has changed so incredibly much, I just can't deal anymore!!! TRUST ME I've compromised and those that know me, I have been VERY veeeeeery patient, but.............just could not live with him for one more day. We had a major issue come up in the beginning of Feb and I gave him an ultimatum ....get out or I will be nasty about getting you out !!!! I still think when he moved that "I" was going to give in, yeah right ....like that was ever going to happen !!!

So don't know where we are going to go from here......if anywhere. "I" am TOTALLY fine and so is my son!! better than ever. My son has made honor roll 2 quarters in a row and was "student of the month" last month. The weight of Craig's BS ####### has been lifted off of my (well, both of our) shoulders. No more bickering and fighting....is such a relief !!!

Well, it took forever...since last summer when we filed for AOS and after just sitting there in California since Nov with no touches or anything, I contacted the Senators office and then got an email this past Friday that his GC is on its way. He doesn't know and I'm not going to share that with him...yet.

My business has been extremely busy, which is a blessing as well.

We're in full swing with soccer and the start of this years season is just around the corner. Our coach likes to have 3 tournaments before the start of the season and they just had their 1st tournament in Virginia over the weekend.

Anyway, I hope all is well with everyone. If anyone needs to reach me, please email me instead of PMing..... because I don't get to come on here ... my email is up and running all of the time.
a-and-k-travel@verizon.net

OH and I finally (I know a travel agent and being in the travel industry for the past 17 1/2 yrs... I should have had one, but I never really needed to) but ....I got our (me and my sons) passports (in 8 days) and those arrived last week. I would really like to go to Jamaica for my birthday weekend....May 18th.... but we'll see.... I haven't been anywhere fun and exciting for almost 2 flippin years !!!

Take care everyone !

Love,

Kelly

Kelly so great to hear from you!!! I am glad everything is working out finally!

What I did was make 2 copies of everything I ever sent in, he had to rustle up, color copies of 2 pictures to a page, all phone bills, plane tickets, passport pages, receipts, letters, cards...everything up until the interview....I took them to the UPS store and had them bind them in what ended up being a 3" binding with thick covers. It cost me something like $11.00. One binder Andre had and one I kept at home. He took his with him to the embassy when he went. I did that in case any questions ever arose that he would need to refresh his memory. I'm glad I did cause one of his questions was how many times I visited him and when was the last time. He had that information readily available to show.

When we married and filed AOS, I had that stuff put in the binder. It is full now. I plan on having LOC and naturalization also put into a binder so if any questions ever arise I can follow what we did.

So, yes, if I were you, I would bring everything that you haven't already sent in with you to the interview. It is better to overwhelm them with information then to not have it if you need it. Just make sure you have it organized enough to whip it out if necessary.

i would take anything you can think of....plane tickets, passport, reciepts for anything while in JA, pictures, and you being their is the biggest proof of all....also remember to take your birth certificate they will ask to see it...

Hey Shauna..... smile.gif

So they need my Birth Certificate Too? I can bring it with no problem but I thought they already had it cause it was in the K-1 packet......Should I bring a copy of the K-1 packet I submitted Too?

I did an updated one for our interview, re-used much of the same information and proof, just added more up to date proof.

Thanks JG,

That was my thought too....do another one this month and just bring all the 2007 stuff with me to the interview.

He was able to get it done in under hour and half. The guys he was chatting with said they're so DAMN glad they got there medical over wid so dem can blaze up di place. I tell you....only in Jamaica.

Lawny,

I told u it was going to be Crazy in there cause it's the Beginning of the Month!! laughing.gif Dave said all those offices are a madhouse on the first Monday of the month because people are in there getting that report for multiple reasons, so I'm glad Marcel made it out in less than two hours.

Dave got it done pretty fast too, but he went on a Tuesday and hardly anyone was there....

Hey guys I am back. Just finished catching up on the posts I missed. I do not hve much to contribute about SO and my children. My children are grown and my ex got along with them great. We did not live together, so I do not think that counted. I am hoping that when Mike comes here he will get along with them even though they are grown. He talks to them occasionally on the phone and seem to be okay, but you never know. "See me and come live with me, that's another thing"

Isn't that just part of men being men? They don't know what they got till it's gone. And they somehow think this tactic will make everything better.

I'm loving the comments on the men and the gynocologists too. Such rude comments. Sometimes I want to say, STHU.......funny, you don't have these issues when YOU want to touch it.

DWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL (aint that the TRUTH).

JG -- I was so embrassed. The doctor stretch his hand across the bed and my EX refused to shake it. Instead he give the doctor the "HEAD NOD". I wanted to WRING his neck. My mom was standing at the end of the bed, so she shook the doctor's hand.

HEY EVERYONE!

Sorry I can't contribute much about children, their dads and how they get along with our men from JA....I never crossed that bridge just yet since i'm not a Mom (LOL) but wanted to ask anyone who might know....

DO I HAVE TO DO A NEW AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT FOR THE INTERVIEW OR SHOULD I JUST BRING ALL MY "UPDATED" supporting INFO LIKE Taxes, Retirement statements, W-2's etc. My initial aff. of support is from October but I'm sure they'll want more recent info.

I can get things notarized easily here at work in the hospital....just curious since all my info is still the same?

Tonisha, I would, just to be on the safe side, update the AOS and bring updated info as you listed above. Once again, good luck. Wish I were you kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

Thanks Claire.....Mike's date will come up before you know it! good.gif

Remember, me and Dave's date is April 1st and since we're the 1:30pm appointment I'm sure there's going to be a BUNCH of people for the early morning slots who just haven't "heard" about their appointment just yet so keep the faith!

As soon as I took my mind off the whole "when is the interview gonna be", it was Scheduled. laughing.gif
