You going back already? Dang, give the man time to unpack, will you!

Every time I think I want to go back and visit and maybe just maybe we can juggle some bills and make a quick jaunt, some fool calls from Jamaica, upsets us, and we think better of even trying.

Just sneak down without telling anyone down there you are coming and enjoy yourself. I told Anthony the next time I come down he is not to tell ANYONE!

LOL - I did that last time with DJ - that's why we went to Negril, and didn't see ANY of his friends or family! But, they still found out I was there and it wasn't quite far enough away - So now we're going to the Bahamas devil.gif His mom, I love - Some of his friends, however..... headbonk.gif

I hear you on that ....they were worse than the family with the expectations. And the bring me one of your friends line makes me crazy! Do I look like cupid??!! mad.gif

Oh, I had one just like this on me. Over a year ago my mom and sis went to Roaring river. I had been there a couple times before so i knew a few folks. Why did we meet this one guy who lives up there and became our "little puppy dog" He was like a lost puppy that just followed us everywhere. He wasnt creepy just funny. kept going on an on about me bringing my other sisters next time for him. I was like yeah yeah ok ok. So we exchanged numbers and he would call all the time. Then send all these please call me back msgs. I think i called him 2 times. So when he found out i was getting married he wanted to help me plan it at the Blue Hole so that I could bring my sisters there for him to meet. After I told him it really wasnt gonna happen he got mad....i mean mad. Never heard from him again. Lawd!! Oh an some other guy up at Roaring river who was our tour guide tried to get at my older sis. They exchanged numbers and when she never really called him he got MAD and started going off on the phone. Before that he was asking her to marry him and petition for his visa wacko.gif . When I heard this i was like "ah wah di rass!!?"

I've been lucky that I haven't always had to bring tons of gifts cause dave's mom and immediate family never asked. Now, I have taken his mom a couple pairs of sandals and some other small stuff when i would go but never anything overboard. I'm sure that could change once Dave goes back and everyone's expectations of him change, now that he's "working" in the States! LOL

Me and Dave had an experience with one of his cousins who ALWAYS wanted me to "bring" him a friend when i would come, like most of us have experienced. He got lucky one time when i traveled down there with my sister and 2 girlfriends. Needless to say, one of my friends exchanged numbers with him and actually had a good time while she was there. Well, the situation turned ugly when he realized she wasn't planning on coming back till next year and that they really "weren't" in a relationship. He would call her at all hours of the morning, begging her to come back and then would get hostile when she cut him off. After that whole ordeal, he was back at it again.....asking me and dave to "find" him someone else?!! I was like....."what do u think I am, a travel guide for people to come to Jamaica and meet a Man??!!! laughing.gif laughing.gif

Dave finally had to tell him...it wasn't gonna happen and he hasn't been a problem for months....

No didn't think it was JA issue either just used that cause they r in JA

If she buys payless they will need shoes and clothes more often..she has to remember that in JA people have to walk..to get on the bus get stepped on..walk from to bus school in the rain...Yes i agree they can buy on sale or in dept stores ..don't think they have to get cheap stuff just cause they're in JA..that's not fair in my opinion..if she was in their shoes wouldn't she but expensive stuff ?

JA'cans must like Clarks, my hubby suggested getting some for his daughter. They are nice shoes, but there are sturder ones.

Yeah Lawny....from me too! I'm just now catching up on all that's happened to your cousin and it sounds like she's up against a lot with this A**hole. I hope she finds some peace and serenity while she's up in Ochi. First and foremost, I'm glad she's safe and outta harm's way. Sounds like this whole situation could have been a lot more dangerous than it turned out.

Yardie Wife............As far as the lifting of conditions.......have you applied for it? If not, I would file for divorce and let him figure out how he's going to lift his own conditions. He is eligible all on his own. He just has to prove the marriage was (oh I forget the word), you know, on the up and up, from the beginning. I would give him some of the paperwork he needs to file like tax return info. or whatever, since you mentioned before he has never wanted to learn how to take care of all that stuff. Anyhow, I'd give him copies of some of the paperwork he needed; but I wouldn't do any of the file work. Tell him to look up the local office, call and make an appointment or whatever, and let them help him figure out what he needs to do. I would not go out of my way to help him. If he wants to stay, he'll figure it out. If not, not your problem.

Please do not stress over him and this anymore. You have done plenty.

I am finally getting buy a car.
Looking for something between $6000 - $10,000.

I like the look of the PT cruiser and also the VW Beetle.

Any advice or thoughts??

What state do you live in JAE? My first thought, here in St. Louis, is that I need something with at least front wheel drive, 4 wheel preferred. Winters here are brutal. Both should get some pretty good gas mileage. I would guess the Beetle gets the best of the two. Also, check out insurance rates on both, if that is a concern for you. I would imagine they would be fairly decent. Lastly, think about getting baby out of the back seat. I'd almost say the PT Cruiser would be the easier access and safer bet.

I personal like both the PT cruiser and the Beetle. But, I know few others who think like me.

We live in MD......Winters are fairly mild.
I don't need a truck since we already have one, this is going to be my personal car, will sometimes have the kids with me, but will probably drive the truck with the both of them more than this....
Will check out insurance!!
Any other cars you'd recommend?

My husband HATES the look of the PT cruiser laughing.gif

Mine hates it too. The Beetle too. But then again, I'm not overly fond of his choices in cars. So, to each his own.

You know those hybrids are pretty popular now. I'm not liking most of the looks of them thus far. Love the thought of the gas milage though. I think I'd go SUV in the hybrid series eventually.

I have an SUV - 2007 Trailblazer - it's not a hybrid but in Pittsburgh an SUV is what u need to manage the snow but i heard Hybrids are nice too.....I'm with JAE....i never like the PT cruisers either....guess i just couldn't get into them! To each his own is right!

JG,

MarvsGirl hasn't been on here much.....we just started talking a couple weeks ago because we'll both be in JA this week. I think she's from Atlanta.

I won't be meeting up with SunnyJA (SJB1221 asked me the same thing) because she's coming back from JA tomorrow and i won't be there until Friday. She is fun to talk too, i agree! LOL

We talked to her last night. She's okay. She isn't sure if she wants to go back to school which breaks my heart cause she was so close to graduating. But, at this point, it's still so fresh, and I do understand. I told them we were finding out some counseling services she might use and both her and Andre's mom said they would look into it. So, thanks for all the info. so far. Keep it coming and I'll keep passing it on.

Well, while I am being a downer, I'll get this over with....After today, I won't be around for at least a few days. Having a minor outpatient surgery tomorrow morning. Shouldn't really hamper me for long, although I'll be knocked out on some antibiotics and pain pills. My husband is taking care of me the next two days (God, help me!!!) and I'll be on bed rest a few more days after that. I'm sure I'll be checking back in on the weekend....try not to say too much so I can keep up.....ha ha!

Geeeeezzzzzz.....hubby just called. You'd think I haven't just seen him a half hour ago....he was very chatty. I must be making him nervous.

There, I'm done. Let's talk some cheerful talk.

Hey, Tonisha........how's the process going?

Hey JG! Good morning yardie fam.... smile.gif

Thanks for asking about me and the process. Things are going o.k....Dave still has his appointment on the 26th to drop off his DS230 so i'm trying to be supportive. I'll be in JA this Friday and i have plans to meet up with Marv'sGirl from VJ since she's already down there with the SO. We're having lunch on Saturday while Dave's at work etc. so we'll see how that goes. SunnyJa is still down there now and she says she's having a good time!

Hope your procedure goes well JG and that Dre takes good care of you!

Is it possible for him to make an appointment to go to the embassy and pick up a copy?

I'm so sorry Gil. Yes, they make it extrememly difficult.

Keep in mind....yesterday was probably an embassy holiday. So, yes, keep trying to call.

I feel so bad that there

I still have NOT received my interview letter from the Embassy. Ken & KJ's medical is next week!! He needs the letter to do the medical!

What now?? Has anyone else been in a similar prediciment? Calling 202 # & Embassy#...to no avail! I will keep trying!
Any other ideas?? WHY DO THEY HAVE TO MAKE IT SO DYAM DIFFICULT!!!? crying.gif crying.gif

Bless,
Gill

Is it possible for him to make an appointment to go to the embassy and pick up a copy?

I'm so sorry Gil. Yes, they make it extrememly difficult.

Keep in mind....yesterday was probably an embassy holiday. So, yes, keep trying to call.

I don't know about counseling services for her. It's MoBay so I'm sure there is something available. Once they calm down a little, I'll bring up that topic.

Gill, Tre, JAE, Kimmy.....you guys actually make me believe in the goodness of people again today. I think I need to get "the gang" together and whip up a little VJ justice!!!!!

Not to leave out any of the rest of you....I love and appreciate you all. It's just that some on here are a little tougher talking then others and those are the one's I want to help me avenge right now.

The thing about the whole 3rd sister thing is that the other two are not doing that great in the after effects. One died of AIDS, although they are not sure it is from the rape, and the other is kind of "off" if you ask me. The whole thing just angers me while it makes me incredibly sad.

I know that's right! This is a tough situation no matter what the outcome and it makes me angry to think some men will pray on young girls just for kicks. I've never personally dealt with a situation like this before but i'm sure all of us can relate in some way or another when it comes to protecting your family from harm's way.

I know plenty of people that would have probably gotten their own "justice" on his A** if something like that happened in the states but i'm glad Dre's family made it through o.k. All you can do is be supportive and try to help guide them on how to eventually get her some help later down the line. Right now, I'm sure you all are just devastated and I'll keep you and his family in my prayers.

Ladies, thanks for your support...I only cried at the hospital and now when i read the PMs I got. You should all be glad we communicate via computer because i don't cry pretty...like on tv..

I had a rough week and walking up and down two flights of stairs with two bags and a baby every day and having to shovel snow on wed. didn't help. I'd been spotting all week, but thursday night it was VERY heavy and prompted me to go the ER friday night.

god always has a master plan, so I'm trying to leave it in his hands. I have 2 other children i have to hold it down for right now. one of whom is teething.

JaEnglish, i'm not offended by anything u said at all.

ok so back to the regularly scheduled programing. because ya'll know i always seem to have a story

The same school that was giving me so much grief the other day. actually had the nerve to call me on friday at work to tell me. there was no afterschool that day. they called me at 4pm and wanted me to get there by 5pm, whatever. I got there at 5;45 but that ain't the story

yesterday on the way to pick up my kids(they were over a friends house) I stopped by the bank to cash a check to myself. I went to a bank in a differend neighorbood a lot more upscale than mine. so anyway, i go up the teller and present him the check. he asks me if i have an account with the bank. i said yes (in New York city, u can right out a check to CASH instead of putting someone's name in the to section of the check, so technically he may have not known that I was the owner of the account) i stated yes. he then said are u mrs jengles. i said yes he then asked me to swipe my bank card, no problem, he then asked for ID so he can right it down. now i'm sort of like huh, because if i just swiped my card and put in my pin, that should be all the id i need, but ok, show him my drivers liscence. then my boy looks at my account and asks me a question. i didn't hear him so he repeated the question 'the credit from xyz place is that your tax return?" i said no its my paycheck. then i asked him why did he ask me that, oh he wanted to make sure everything was alright with my account. his job is to make sure the funds are available in the account to cover the check i presented not to get into my personal business. and yes he was of another color. the black teller sitting next to him just kept on looking at him and laughing. my teller couldn't look at me in my face anymore.

On my way out, i kindly asked for his supervisor and spoke to one of the personal bankers who agreed with me that he had no business at all asking me that question and said she would speak to him.

Dyam Bright han houtta order! I would have said..."What are you jealous!!! Sweetheart, if you buss your behind the way I did and Do...one day that paycheck could be going into your account!!!" Oh, that's right black people can only get a large amount of money once a year...God forbid we actually WORK for it!!!!!!!
I get that all the time here on the Island...people automatically assume that I live or am from large minority neighborhoods! When I tell them where I do live (Upper class, white neighborhood)...you can see the question in their eyes "I didn't know any blacks lived there!" But what they say is 'Ohhhhh, very nice!'- With that fake -a$$ smile! The funny thing is My town used to be a the part of a huge plantation were the slaves lived! laughing.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif I love to tell them my ancestors have been there for almost 500 years! ohmy.gif blink.gif blink.gif

We woke up to the phone ringing off the hook this morning. Andre's 16 year old sister was attacked at knifepoint last night by a taxi driver on her way home from school. Not sure we are getting all the details right now cause everyone is pretty much hysterical. It's not good.

Hello there,

I don't know if this is the appropriate thread to post in but I'm new to the board and I'm getting ready to start the intense K1 Visa process. I was initially going to pay someone to take care of it for me but decided it be best to do it myself and now I'm feeling overwhelmed. unsure.gif

Anyway, a bit of info on me: I'm 24, fiancee is in JA and we are expecting a baby sometime in October (which I'm excited and terrified about, its my first time). We couldn't be happier except....

my family doesn't know about my relationship, I was afraid to tell them because they were very judgmental about a previous long distance relationship. I know they are going to be very disappointed in me and I almost can't bear it.
Any suggestions on how to break the news?

Also worried my fiancee won't make it in time for baby's birth.. plus my work is very stressful.. I have to figure out a way to tell them too sad.gif

PS: I'm really feeling this thread smile.gif

Michelle

Hey Michelle....welcome to the thread and congrats on the baby!

I know your feeling stressed right now with not telling your family and and friends about all that's going on with you but if this relationship is truly what you want, then you're eventually gonna have to tell someone, right? Maybe talk to your fiance and get a better sense of where his head is and how you want to proceed with the K-1 etc. Sounds like you are both excited about the baby so those are good things!

I know friends and family can be judgemental but like my mother always used to say....."well, everyone's gotta think something" so just make sure you're comfortable with your own decisions and you'll be fine. There are lots of people on here that can offer great advice and info about the process so join in whenever you're ready and good luck with whatever you decide.

Hey Claire, how tings?

Hey Tam Tam; Tonks for the shout out. I am here at work till 11pm (call in to work 4 hrs for an extra $10/hr and couldn't resist). Just catching up on the reading. I am still waiting for that snail mail from JA with Mike's corrected DS-230. He claims it was mailed out last week Tuesday. Getting mail from Ja is some he!!. When he used to work in Kingston, he would go to the General PO and mail it. He now works a little outside Spanish Town (near to Dovecot Cemetary) and asked his cousin to mail it from Old Harbour. He leaves for work at 0600 and gets home at 2000, so he couldn't get to the PO. I am just tired of waiting. I check my mailbox everyday with such anticipation, that my heart sinks when I don't see a letter from Ja. But, girl, I am still hanging in. Every disappointment is for a good. They would have sent the RFE for the passport pictures anyway. I am just taking it easy and hoping for an April/May interview. I miss him so much and I am tired of calling him and telling how much I miss him. Like he says to me most of the time "I feel the same way, but there is nothing you or I can do about it right now, so just hang in there and remember our love is everlasting and will edure this trial that we are going through."

Has anyone ever used priceline.com? I saw a plane fare for $140 that Air Jamaica is charging $270 for and hotels in Negril for $15/night, but a friend of mine told me that sometimes they don't give you the exact flight that you want and that you cannot choose your hotel. blink.gif

Does anyone know more about this? helpsmilie.gif

I never used priceline myself but your friend might be right from what I heard. One of my co-workers used them and did an all inclusive in JA last year. The flight and hotel were decent prices but she was told she may be at one of any three of the hotels that quoted the "cheap" rate. She knew she would be in Negril but she wasn't going to know what hotel until she basically reached JA. It went by how many other people booked that charter flight for the dates and times she was traveling etc. It worked out since she was only going for a vacation but if you want a certain location or are afraid that where they put you might be too far from who you're visiting then it might not be worth it. wacko.gif

It might be different now but i'm sure someone in the yardie family knows more about it than i do! LOL

I was at Evita's back on my Sept. trip and the setting is nice....some of items are a little overpriced (I think) for any of their "American" dishes but the portions are a really good size. They have some guy playing the piano while you're eating and dave wasn't feeling him at all but other than that it's a great place to sit, eat and overlook Ochi at nightime. I've been there a few other times with my girls and it was decent.

The dress is casual and dinner for two is around $100. Take a lesson from me, don't let anyone say you can "Walk" there and let them drop u off at the bottom of the hill (it's a little ways up from Fisherman's point on the way to the RIU) because me and my girls did that two years ago and it took us about 20 minutes to walk up there on a hill that was more like a Cliff!!! laughing.gif

Me and dave took a cab up when we went so I didn't have to take my shoes off to walk up that crazy A** hill! laughing.gif

I struggle with this all the time! LOL Living in Pittsburgh is no cup of tea...especially in the wintertime but the cost of living is cheap even though our job market is still competitive because we're in Pennsylvania but reap the benefits of Philly being our "neighbor". Because Philly is a little more expensive than Pgh., the job market here pays the same.

My old apartment in Philly was about $1100 and that was back in 2000. I have a 3bdrm house in Pittsburgh, central air, garage and huge backyard and my mortgage is only $573 and i live right in the city in a decent neighborhood. That's always my dilemma with going somewhere else they may have more perks than a small city like Pittsburgh but at what cost? Trust me, I would love to be somewhere that's more culturally diverse but It's hard to leave when I have tons of extra money every month and can wipe out debt at leisure. wacko.gif

I'll be staying put until I know more about me and Dave's relationship once he gets here.....no need for both of us to be somewhere that neither one of us can afford! laughing.gif

Tonisha, you convinced me, Pittsburgh here I come good.gif If only I can find a job that is paying me what I am getting now with all the little perks. Let me see if any of the subsidiaries for our parent company is out that way! To have mortgage of $573 would be a dream here.

For real...I wanted to go south to get away from the cold but I'll be cold for $573.

For real good.gif I'll be an icicle for what 4 months out of the year for $573/mth for mortgage. And I can bet average utility bills aren't too bad and for sure homeowners insurance is a fraction of what it is here. My mom's insurance bill in total was over $4000 for the year and figure that with property taxes being about the same.

Hey ladies...

Yeah, Pittsburgh is COLD from Nov - Feb but the tradeoff is we're still only 3-4 hour drive to MD, Philly, D.C. etc. The median home price is around $90,000 which works out to a really affordable mortgage and then like J.G. said....you get a HUGE tax break when u own property.

When I first got outta Grad school in Philly, I came back to Pgh. in 2000 and lived in a bunch of different apartments. Even in Pgh. my rent used to still be around $700 for a small one bedroom and i got tired of only having "one" closet! laughing.gif Finally, I bought the house in 2004 for around 70,000 and even though that's pretty cheap....I still landed a detached house with all those amenities and a lot of land. The taxes are like $1100 a year and the last time i looked, the homeowner's might of been around $40 a month or something. I live about a 5 minute drive to work and i'm in a neighborhood that's close to center city, all the stadiums, the casino and all the restaurants etc.

I'll be the first to say, Pgh lacks in the diversity department with only a small west-indian population but because it is cheaper, it's easier to do more with your money and own a whole bunch of rental properies. That's the direction I'm going in so I can keep getting that big tax right off since I don't have any kids and i'm done with school.

I just shaved a good $7,000 off my income by being able to write off that house on my taxes laughing.gif I would love to live somewhere else that has more going on (Pgh population only about 500,000 people) but at my age (37) I'm more worried about how soon I can retire than I'm worried about living somewhere more expensive.

Come on over ladies, I'll show you guys around!!! smile.gif

Hi Happy Wednesday! Do you guys know if there are any prepaid phones in the US where incoming calls are free like Digicel? Hope everyone is havin a wonderful day I just sent off the AOS stuff on 1/28 and the check was cashed today. I wonder how long the work permit will take Chris is dying to work. He has been in school for the last three weeks and loving that. I was feelin bad for him sittin in the house he was getting very depressed. Congrats on everyones approvals and interview dates! and all those expecting.

Hey JALOVE. I think 90 days from the NOA1 date has to pass before he can get his temp EAD...at least that's the way it used to be.

I hope its sooner smile.gif before he goes bananas. Hopefully we will be moving to a cheaper state NJ is way too high and i want to buy a house soon. Tired of renting. For what i pay in rent its well over a house note for a small one br apt.

Same here. Where are you thinking about moving to?

We were thinking about Atlanta but I want to wait until Damien gets his 10 green card.

My mind is all ova the place right now. Its looking like back to texas( dallas-fort worth ) area all i recall is rent bein 589.00 + 65 for garage and i miss that compared to my now 1565 starting in march sad.gif so ill be doing month to month till i get out. I dont want to suck into another years lease. GA would be nice and so would FL but i cant find any jobs in FL with my company other than sales and thats not my thing. MD of course also but that is almost as high as here my goal is to save and cut lots of cost.

O.k. Ladies....not to change the subject but I need some advice about the upcoming interview stuff ( I know....B-O-R-I-N-G ) How did you all send the DS230 into the embassy? Did your fiance drop it off in person or did you send it in from here? helpsmilie.gif

Hey Sweets, I would definately email the Embassy after the NVC sends it to them. Memba what I said...Get your KNG# first then send them an email (I let them know I was coming down for a visit and asked if 'I' could drop it off). They of course gave me a date the day after I left!

The only reason I think it's better is because a). I DO NOT TRUST THAT CRAZY JA. MAIL SYSTEM cool.gif. At least you know that you placed it in someone's hands and IT GOT THERE and c). It's quicker way to get your interview date!

Love ya,
Gill

Gill,

Thanks for the insight! I know what u mean about the JA mail...don't we all!

I'll follow your advice and just email the embassy once NVC transfers the case to Kingston and assigns a new #. If it works out, we'll "try" to get them to schedule a drop off time while I'm down there....wish me luck on that laughing.gif laughing.gif
