This community is truly blessed. So many great things have happened. Congrats to everyone including the new babies (beautiful), expecting babies, NOA's, and interviews. My case was finally transfered to Kingston this week (unsure of date). I've been working hard. I'm going to JA 1/25 for 34 glorious days. If I find out any 411 while in JA, I will post. Does anyone know any internet cafes in the Ocho Rios area? I dare not bring my laptop because my last one was stolen. For those who are going through tough times, you are definetely in my prayers. Always remember, tough times don't last but tough people do. Be encourged.

Bridget

Congrat!! good.gif I'm gonna be in JA next month too, CANNOT WAIT. I just feel so much better as soon as I see that beautiful island from the air at dawn. Its the best flight cause its a goregeous sight to see at that hour. I used to bring my laptop but found it hard to get internet anywhere, so it was really no need. I am sure you'll find an internet cafe. Check the libraries too, cause I know the ones in Mobay had internet. Also some hotels have wifi, and if you are in range you can bring your laptop. Thats sucks about the laptop getting stolen, was it in your luggage? A guy i met my first trip down worked at the Sangster and told me how things get stolen from luggage all the time. He told me to never put valuables in checked luggage blink.gif

Marlita
Thanks, I'll check out some libraries. My computer was actually stolen from a resort in Montego Bay.

Bridget

Hey....

I'll be in Ochi on 2/22nd so see ya there! kicking.gif

I go there all the time and the last time I was there (12/4) I think some people were going to a little place next to the Hard Rock Cafe to get on the internet...not 100% sure but you might also try the resorts. I know there's internet access in the Sunset Grande and over at the Riu but i'm not sure where you're staying. These might be to far huh.gif

My fiance's cousin is in college there and she uses the internet at the public library and on the campus at the community college/tech school. Hope this helped. PM me if u want more info on Ochi or if i can help u in anyway.

Hey Yardie Fam,

JG, I missed the blackout by a day...(thank G-d!!) I hate when current is gone! laughing.gif ... I MISSED YOU GUYS!!!!

But I ain't gonna lie....JAMAICA WAS BLOODCLAAT AMAZING!!!! Rebel Salute was WONDERFUL!!!! We had a great time!

My trip further solidified my decision to file for Ken. He was equally amazing! I just feel blessed to have him (as he does me wink.gif )

Rebel Salute was CRAZY!!! We got there at 10pm and left at 10am the following morning. Jah Cure was AMAZING...he sounded exactly like he did on his album. Capelton, Taurus Riley, and Busy Signal got the crowd screaming! Definitely want to go back again. We went to a restaurant called 'Little Ochie", near Santa Cruz in St. Elizabeth. I would definately recommend it and Rebel Salute to everyone!

Saying good-bye wasn't the usual water works on my end,..because I knew I would be headed back relatively soon! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

So, Ken dropped off his DS-230 today at the embassy. How long before I can start calling to find out about a date?

Again, I love you guys and really did miss you!

Blessed,
Gill

P.S.- Here are some pics

Welcome back Gill.

I went to Little Ochie last year with Mike for his birthday. It was really amazing and the fish was really great. I am glad you enjoyed yourself good.gif good.gif

didn't she say she was staying in a hotel, if so she should be ok.

Ever stayed in a hotel in a black out? It's pretty rough.

After I posted that, I saw she was leaving today. They've worked hard to get some back on.....Kingston and MoBay seem to be okay now and they are working on the rest. She should be fine.

Dave said Ochi was still pretty much in the dark....he's been using a car charger to charge his cell phone wacko.gif but he said everything should be up and running again by tomorrow.....i think? blink.gif

I hope the lights are on when I go down in February! laughing.gif

I just can't believe that we are here...I've cried...worried...screamed and agonized over this day and it is finally here! (I hope it's not anti-climatic! laughing.gif ) We start our physical journey together as a power couple tonight...however our powerful love and spiritual togetherness has been there from day one!

I want to take a moment to tell all of you how grateful I am for your support and acts of kindness over the last nine months! Whether it's our seasoned Elders that helped me every step of the way or our welcomed new additions that have sent up their prayers upon our behalf! I feel truly blessed and humbled to be around such inspiring women everyday!

I recently read a thread about what MENA VJ means to a member...Well here's what Yardie VJ means to me:

Friendship, Sisterhood, Guidance, Patience, Understanding, Love, Nuturing, Compassion, Laughter, Tears, and a place to exhale!

THANK YOU GUYS FOR MAKING MY FIRST LEG OF THIS JOURNEY A LOT EASIER TO BARE... Sometimes we don't get to tell people in our lives how much of an impact they make upon us...Well, I didn't want to let this opportunity pass without letting ALL of you know how each and everyone of you have touched our lives (Ken & I). Each and everyone of you in some small way share in Ken's arrival here today...so again...We thank you! luv.gif

Bless-ed Bless-ed Love ALWAYS heart.gif ,
Gill & Ken

Gill how could you? crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif

Much love to you to Gill...I'm glad Part I of your journey is finally over so you and Ken can start your lives together. You know we'll always be here for the both of you! Enjoy your time together and I wish you the best of luck. good.gif

WELCOME HOME KEN!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif

Okay, so as you guys im a social worker, and have been for some years now... i love my job( sometimes) and i feel like I make a difference in peoples lives...Mrs.P arent you a social worker as well??? ... but anyhoo, my job is never going to make me rich, and i will forever be under a microscope with the county, in regards to treatment outcomes, blah blah blah. My question, is i have seriously been considering returning to school to obtain a degree in a whole different field, im thinking something in the healthcare field, like an x ray tech or a therapeutic masseuse or something not requiring the viewing of body fluids. I am torn between going for a master's in social work, as right now im only a LBSW, with the hopes that with a masters i can find another job in the same field making more money, or trying something new???

What do you guys think, im just looking for opinions, im not really certain what i want to do, so i thought i would throw it out to my VJ sistren and see how they would weigh it??

I'm a Social worker out in Pittsburgh....I've had my Master's since 1998 from Penn and with a Master's, most of the positions I've held pay pretty well. I practice in a Hospital setting where I work under just one psychiatrist and have my own staff etc.

If you really enjoy social work, I wouldn't change professions but I would push onto get the Master's degree if you can! yes.gif

I was in your shoes back in 94' when I only had a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice. Couldn't figure out what my next career move was so i got the Master's in social work. Only took 2 years full-time and right away, I was able to get jobs that paid a good $15- $20,000 more than Bachelor's level jobs, so think about it.

PM me if u ever wanna talk.

Y'all must be reading my mind today, i was just talking to my friend about this same subject earlier. I really have my heart on getting married in JA, but of course with the visa process, since we are planning on doing the K1 that cant happen. We have discussed having a NONLEGAL ceremony on the beach in May( which is what i want, i want to have my friends fly down to be there) and then just going the justice of the peace route when he actually gets here. I have heard others mention that you have to be careful with the nonlegal ceremony route( im not sure why) im thinking that if you showed pictures( that the Embassy, may think it is a legal marriage and deny yoU????? Im just grasping at straws here) Can anyone clarify for me? ( i mean obviously, i wouldnt be stupid enough to present those photos at my interview, so im just wondering.

I'm not sure about the details of a NON-Legal ceremony but i'm guessing folks are saying "be careful" cause it probably has something to do with not wanting the embassy/ INS to think you got married in JA if your supposed to be doing a K-1. Not really sure, but yeah....I know what u mean about wanting to have some sort of ceremony or recognition in JA, even if it's not the "real" thing. LOL

We're doing the JP route here and then going back down later this year to celebrate with my family and his. We decided not to do anything big up here cause there really wouldn't be anybody at the ceremony on his behalf. Besides, I'll be ready for a vacation/ honeymoon by then!

Question for you Vets.....or anyone who might know,

Once we file for AOS, how long does it usually take to get the AP back to travel???

I know AOS can take anywhere from a couple months to a year, but doesn't the AP/ EAD usually come back much faster than the AOS? We wanted to travel in mid-November and are sending the AOS/AP/EAD out in August. Will that give us enough time to receive it?

Any info would be helpful! smile.gif

I went looking last weekend? At our David's bridal they only had one $99 dress and it was awful so I guess I missed out. lol The dress I tried on was $349 and it's perfect, but I still don't know what I want to do. Either a small wedding on a boat or just go to JP and head back to JA later like I planned... Well see...I gotta get my baby here first. lol

LOLLLL...yeah we gotta get him here soon, too!

I got lucky with our $99 sale cause they still had about 4-5 dresses left in every size. Granted, they were very elegant, yet simple dresses but still served the purpose. I picked one that was strapless - kinda fitted at the top and then it's fuller from the waist down. I only tried on two so I'm glad it already fit. LOLLL

Wakey,

I know last summer I had dropped like 33lbs. Man you couldn't tell me nothing. I had to go out and purchase new clothes. Man did I feel good. But I allowed stress with school and this visa process to start eating away at me and as soon as swimsuit season was over the pounds started creeping back. I haven't gained it all back but I'm well on my way unless I do something fast. Yeah I want him to be able to say WOW! when he sees me at the airport upon his arrival.

I did same thing last year before I got sick and afterwards I think I threw myself a pitty party and put my weight back on too. We can do it. We just have to stick with a plan. Don't stop Get it, Get it.

I need to get back on track myself and QUICK!! I lost 50 lbs over a period of 5 months. I have fallen off the beaten path and put back on a few lbs sad.gif
I now have to get back to business and quick!!

SOnshyne, how did you manage that, because my SO is just to dang skinny for me and i dont want to look like here there BIG girl, when im next to him...LOL

I changed the way I eat, no more soda, candy, chips, cookies, fried foods ( ohmy.gif NO FRIED CHICKEN??) that and the no soda thing was the biggest hurdle for me, but I did it!! The thing is you really need to eat 3 meals a day something I never did, I usually ate once a day.

Also watch your sodium intake as well as calories and sugars.

I lost about 45lbs six years ago and kept it off by making sure I actually EAT 3-4 meals a day & exercise. I used to be about 215lbs back then and it took me a good 6 months to get down to where I am now at 160lbs. Granted, I'm not "thin" but it felt good trying on wedding dresses in size 12! LOLLLLLL

Another big help is going from "regular" sodas to diet and trying ur best not to constantly overeat. I have a stair climber at my house which really helped during those boring winter months, while trying to get through the Visa process. laughing.gif

Anyone doing anything fun this weekend?

I started mine last night. We had apple martini's, dinner, and then ice cream for dessert.

I think I am busting out of here at around noon. Everyone is out at meetings all day. LOVE those kind of days. I want to go buy myself some caramel apple pistachio tea and I'm eyeing a giant Lucky Jeans Brand bag like Nancy Bottwin carries around in Weeds. I've been searching the internet all week to find the exact bag I want. Bet when I go to Macy's to find it, it won't be up to my expectations. We'll see. I am also eyeing those neon green Reboks.

My daughter and I are going school shopping for her (gasp! hiding bras and panties so no one else in the store can see us buying them---but not get arrested by security for shoplifting!) and we might all see a movie tomorrow. I want to see Mama Mia; but they are pushing for The Dark Knight.

There better be cake and presents sometime in there or someone dies in my house!

We're going to see Dark Knight with my sister and a couple of friends....then off to some Dancehall/ Reggae party at one of the clubs. LOL

Dave was off yesterday and today so we're heading out tonight. He works all day tomorrow, so I'll be at my mom's pool. wink.gif That's about it for this weekend. Anyone else doing fun things??

Seems to be the trend that it comes before AOS, yes.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Atleast we can travel and he can work, possibly, while waiting for the "Big" AOS packet to go thru.

TYMOORE.....like JG said, when u file AOS the "big" fee covers all three - AOS/EAD/AP - IF U FILE ALL 3 AT ONCE but it's not mandatory that folks send in all three applications at once. It makes "sense" to send in all three at once, so you can save yourself some steps later.

12/11/06 (she doesn't come on here much anymore).....she only sent in the AOS packet and then when her husband wanted to travel back to JA, they had to wait another 2 months to get the EAD/ AP back. It just slowed everything down so i would send them all at once, if u can.

Lawny, Sending good luck wishes to you and Marcel for tomorrow. Be sure to post a pic or two so that we can see how beautiful things were.

Mich...I know it seems like things take forever at the embassy, but I'm sure you'll here something soon. Sometimes they like to "wait" till they've rec'd a bunch of them for the month and then they email everyone with Interview times. That's how it went for me, Gill and a bunch of others so Hang In There! Dave got lucky cause he dropped his DS230 off at the end of February and they scheduled the Interview only a few days later via email.

Lawny....Glad ur co-workers gave u that "big" gift...sounds like u might wanna use it for AOS! laughing.gif tongue.gif

Mommy2B....I haven't been on here much but glad u and the baby are doing well. Hope it smooths out with the SO and he's able to be here with you in the future.

Claire....I laughed when I read your posts about "what to share with the SO's about ur past relationships" cause i'm sure that type of stuff comes up all the time. I've been lucky that Dave could care less about my previous relationships, even though he knows about a few. He doesn't have any kids and was pretty open about his past from the beginning.

JG.....I'm with you...I wish he would of asked me to throw away my furniture or some other craziness cause another man has been in my house. LOLLLLL

O.k.....I gotta AOS question for you all. I know it can take up to a few months to get the AOS/ EAD/ AP back once you're married. Do we need to have the both the AOS and the AP back in order for Dave to travel or is the AP good enough???

I hear you on that ....they were worse than the family with the expectations. And the bring me one of your friends line makes me crazy! Do I look like cupid??!! mad.gif

Oh, I had one just like this on me. Over a year ago my mom and sis went to Roaring river. I had been there a couple times before so i knew a few folks. Why did we meet this one guy who lives up there and became our "little puppy dog" He was like a lost puppy that just followed us everywhere. He wasnt creepy just funny. kept going on an on about me bringing my other sisters next time for him. I was like yeah yeah ok ok. So we exchanged numbers and he would call all the time. Then send all these please call me back msgs. I think i called him 2 times. So when he found out i was getting married he wanted to help me plan it at the Blue Hole so that I could bring my sisters there for him to meet. After I told him it really wasnt gonna happen he got mad....i mean mad. Never heard from him again. Lawd!! Oh an some other guy up at Roaring river who was our tour guide tried to get at my older sis. They exchanged numbers and when she never really called him he got MAD and started going off on the phone. Before that he was asking her to marry him and petition for his visa wacko.gif . When I heard this i was like "ah wah di rass!!?"

I've been lucky that I haven't always had to bring tons of gifts cause dave's mom and immediate family never asked. Now, I have taken his mom a couple pairs of sandals and some other small stuff when i would go but never anything overboard. I'm sure that could change once Dave goes back and everyone's expectations of him change, now that he's "working" in the States! LOL

Me and Dave had an experience with one of his cousins who ALWAYS wanted me to "bring" him a friend when i would come, like most of us have experienced. He got lucky one time when i traveled down there with my sister and 2 girlfriends. Needless to say, one of my friends exchanged numbers with him and actually had a good time while she was there. Well, the situation turned ugly when he realized she wasn't planning on coming back till next year and that they really "weren't" in a relationship. He would call her at all hours of the morning, begging her to come back and then would get hostile when she cut him off. After that whole ordeal, he was back at it again.....asking me and dave to "find" him someone else?!! I was like....."what do u think I am, a travel guide for people to come to Jamaica and meet a Man??!!! laughing.gif laughing.gif
