HHHHHHHaaaaaa my girl that is so true. That's a good price for Jamaica Grande. I like it their it's really nice. If you're going to be there check out Magarita Ville on Wednesday night. I can't remember what nights I use to go to Amesia and there's another club. I know Ray is going to be surprise. Poor Marcel, he thinks I'm coming to Jamaica in June. His friend is picking me up at the airport next month April 9th and I can't wait. I'll also be in Jamaica in June, so maybe we can link up. I stay at my dad's house in Trelawny. So, if you don't mind the COUNTRY you're more than welcome. Hopefully the renovations will be done by then. AND please make sure Ray is with you, because all I have is MALE cousins and all they have to see is a women with a tiny bit of MEAT on their body and they lose their ever loving minds.
[/quote]

Me and dave stayed there back in November and it was $399 for each of us. Seems like it's cheapest in the summer and then again during hurricane season, when i went LOL.

Dave and Ray are both from Ochi and since me and SunnyJa were down there around the same time last month, we all did Margaritaville on Mondays and wednesdays.....Ur right Lawny, Wet Wednesdays at M Ville is pretty fun. Amnesia has ladies night on Thursdays which is good too.

I've never stayed at the RIU but for the price, the Sunset Grande was pretty nice and it's closer to everything when ur ready to go into town. I think I'd like the RIU but since Dave doesn't drive, it just ends up being too far from his work and town sad.gif One thing I didn't like at the Sunset Grande is you have to plan ur dinner reservations wayyyyy in advance if their busy and sometimes it felt like we were "rushing" to make sure we had a sit down dinner. Other than that, staff was real nice and accomodating....well outside of the housekeeper who spilled bleach near one of Dave's shirts! mad.gif The manager paid us for it but still....a little suspect for a place with that kinda reputation....don't ya think???? wacko.gif

Have fun Mich....Glad u finally made ur travel plans!

Ok, mi have one topic....

Why do you think it is that there are large concentrations of one or the other gender marrying certain nationalities???

Ie, with American/Jamaican marriages, the WOMAN is most often AMERICAN same for MENA and African marriages, in Russian/American marriages, the MAN is most often American and the same for Filipino/American relationships.....

You know I have thought about this a lot and haven't really come to a good conclusion. I know they discuss this all the time in the MENA and Russia forum and have quite a varying degree of what they thing contributes to such a vast difference in certain genders seeking other nationalities. Not sure what I think about it all...I am going to have to think on this more.

i think american men go after filipino women because they have a stereotype of being very biddable, meaning they are willing to let the men run things and and the women run the house.

men want russian women because they are viewed as being very pretty...almost exotic...

plus it is more sociable exceptable for a male to come home with a flipino wife and russian wife vvs the other way around.

boy u been sleeping a lot nowadays, u sure is just sick u sick?

I only know 2 such women, from VJ, and I didn't get that impression from them. They were pretty vocal around their men.

I only know one filipino woman (not from VJ) married to this doctor I work with and she seems pretty outgoing and vocal too?.....Might not be the norm but I got the impression she feels pretty comfortable interacting with all of us from work but then again, I only know that one example wink.gif

Mawning Fams,

I just thought of something for those filing after me!

Make sure you have a copy of your original petition. Make a copy and send it to your SO. That's where they get MAJORITY of their questions from...duh! I didn't realize that until I keep seeing the same pattern of questions being asked over and over again.

Also if you haven't filed yet. Make your description of how you met as brief and concise as possible. The more details you give them...the more questions they can ask! I only wrote a paragraph of how we met (because I was too dyam lazy & annoyed fuh go inna more details at the time). But it worked out for the best in the end!

For those of you that have interviews coming up...GET YOUR 2007 tax returns!! If you have those for whatever reason they are pleased! You DO NOT have to have the transcripts for 2007...just the return. Nuff people went up with 2006 and they seemed annoyed...some people even got a blue slip to come back when they have them!

Hmmmmm...I think that's it!

Bless, Gill

P.S.- How is everyone tiddeh?

Hey Gill....Welcome Back!

Thanks for the info about the interview process....you shoulda seen the Post I made last week while u were away.....I think I'm taking TOO much info, actually..... laughing.gif

Congrats!

Hey Chica,

Thanks...you probably are...but better to be safe than sorry! They didn't ask mi for NADA...no bank statement, no employment letter(s), cell phone bills...Ken had to ask her if she wanted to see pictures...NOPE! They know if you are for real...or not! Mi seh carrying around dat big heavy file folder and dem just want what they want!

Go wid halla tings dem hennyweh, Sweets! You'll be fine!

Bless,Gill

Thanks Gill! LOL

I just pictured me walking around with all my folders stuffed down in my tote bag all for nothing and all I could do was just laugh.....Either way, I'll still drag the binder down there....just in case laughing.gif

GOOOOOOD MAWNING FAMILY!!!!! BLESS-ED BLESS-ED MAWNING TO ALL OF YOU!!!!

I want to SINCERELY thank ALL of you guys...newbies, veterans...ALL of your prayers definately worked!!!

We were Blessed for the entire journey. We decided to drive Chalky Hill into town (because less police checks- if we remember were we left off Ken's license will not arrive til 3/17/08 and Gill was NOT used to driving on the other side of the road!)

So if anyone knows Chalky Hill you KNOW that it's PURE corners and narrow streets! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif Ken did EXCELLENT witht he driving and I would take over at the more straight runs! THANK G-D we reached Portmore (Ken's Aunt's House) safely with NO stops...G-d is good!

So, we wake up bright and early the next morning it a WONDERFUL breakfast of Ackee & saltfish with Fried dumpling and hot cocoa tea w/condense milk...YUM!! After that Ken's Aunt...put dung a pissa prayers for us and our interview! She all ask the Lord to bless & touch the person interviewing us!

We got to the Embassy at around 8AM...the whole bus, taxi ride Ken kept repeating dates, names and other things they could test him on... wacko.gif no0pb.gif ( Driving me CRAZY!!)

So, we found a nice Ras to hold our things...(he remembered Ken from when he went to drop-off the DS-230)
They let us in...the guy in the front (really nice Jamaican Guy) walked us through what papaers we would need! I then realized I had only filled out 1 copy of the DS 156 & DS 157 (I KNOW!! blush.gif ) So I quick quick filled it out! He gave us our number...(LUCKY NUMBER U 042)and we went inside to Section A.

Waited for about 20 minutes...we were called up...we handed in all our documents and she told us we could move on to Section B! Went to Section B in 5 minutes we were called up and a lady asked if I had my tax returns I told her yes from 2004-2007. She said "wonderful...the 2007's please. She went through it and took out what she needed and handed me back the rest! She also wanted the official copy of my divorce! Whipped it out and gave her! She told us to have a sit back in Section 'B'!

Then 2 minutes later a gentleman called us to take Kens fingerprints...then we moved on to Section 'C'!

OK, offtopic45vn.gif for a second! Can I tell you my hat goes off to the people working in Section C ...they have one HELL of a job to do and from what I could tell they do it well!! NUFF NUFF people were trying to get over!!!! One guy had had 3 women fil for him since 2001 (unbeknownst to his current fiancee), a next girl lied on her and wrote in 2006 she was living with a common law husband...but then told the interviewer she was by herself in 2006! Nuff foolishness

So we go to section 'C' and Wait...and wait...and wait!! Ok, so I saw Nbesaw (I think) who had her appointment after us gets called before us for the last part! (They got through ...congrats Nbes...BTW!) So, you done know me already. Ken is still spewing out family facts and I am going CRAZY with the waiting! So, I go to get up and ask what's going on... Ken pulls my dress and says..."Just watch your tone!" Like I don't knoa dat! mad.gif

I get up and brush my dress off and approach an available officer, in my finest American accent say " Good Morning, I am not trying to be difficult. But now I am beginning to get concerned that something happened to our file. We have been waiting a good amount of time now. I understand you guys are swamped to day...but I just wanted to make sure we were still on the radar. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif "

She said "I know...what time was your appointment? "8:30" " Ok, we should be getting to you very soon. Try to bare with us!" Ok, at this point I look down cause she just opened a new file and I see Ken's name biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

" OK, Ma'am, thank you for your time , no problem, I totally understand!" So ,I slowly walk back to my chair (cus mi doan knoa wi NEXT!!!) I mouth to Ken "We Next!" As soon as mi seh dat "Mr. Ken Young to window 23 please!"

Ken jumps up like a gunshot and I turn to the same lady and approach the window with a smile and say "I guess you were right!"

She laughs and says "I guess so!" Then Ken says "Good Morning, How is your day going so far?" She then looks up at him ans smiles and says ' not bad, thank you for asking"

She asks Ken why he's here...who filed for him he says his fiancee and she gives him a paper to write my name and sign his name. (My man was so nervous he spells my name WRONG! laughing.gif But with his scribble she can't tell) She makes us swear in to tell the truth! So she begins with asking Ken how we met! "

We were following how everyone else answered this question and they (USCIS) want DETAILS in this answer! So Ken starts with "I work at the Holiday Inn and had the pleaseure of meeting this beautiful lady next to me when I was walking down the hall on the 4h floor or building #1!! From the first time I saw her I was just drawn to her beauty and vibes. I asked her to go out with me and after several rejections, she finally said 'YES!" He's about to go on and she says "ok!'

When did you met your Fiance? My man blurts out April, no January!!!!! (WRONG!!!!!!!) So she looks at the 129f that I completed and says "When?" At this point I jump in cause I know he's nervous as HELL!! I say "Ken look at me ...when did we meet?" He says when did we meet? "November 23, 2006!!! " (DAT'S RIGHT!) "Please tell the lady when we met!

"Oh, November 23, 2006...I am a little nervous today...sorry!" The lady then goes "No, my error I must have misheard you say January!(My girl played it off!! wink.gif - Let's not forget that there are cameras and mic's everywhere...the interviewers are being watched just as close as the interviewee(sp?)) they are suppose to take your first answer.

Tehn she asks if he has children and if his son has met me "Oh Yes!!" says Ken. Then she asks about my sons "Does you fiancee have children?"
"Yes, 2 beautiful boys!" says Ken
"Have you ever met them?" she asks
"They are wonderful kids!" says Ken (totally off the dyam subject!)
" Yes, but have but have you met them?" She asks again
"Oh, I'm sorry...Yes I have....would you like to see pictures?" says Ken

"No,. Mr. Young that won't be necessary. Your visa should arrive in approx. 2 weeks ....please go across the street to Airpack and blah blah blah!!!!!"

Bwoy, at that point I just put this shyt-eating grin on my face!! Ken says "thank you Ma'am!" I walk away and turn back and say "Thank you so much...you won't regret this!" She says..."I know!" with a wink and and smile!

We walk out of the waiting area into the hall where the nice Jamaican guy was helping us and Ken starts singing the Lupe Fiasco song...."You are what you say your are a SUPERSTAR!!!" and puts his shades on (Mr. confidence all of a sudden!) I tell the guy we get through he smiles and says congrats!! I then said "GREY GOOSE TONIGHT!!!" All of the embassy people start laughing!

What an experience!! Again, I thank ALL of you for your support and prayers...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! heart.gif luv.gif

Blessed love always,

Gill

(PS- Lawny, I saw ONE indian looking dude that got a blue slip...but he said his "wife' filed for him...not "fiancee'. I didn't have a picture of Marla...so I didn't know what she looked like!)

kicking.gif kicking.gif CONGRATS GILL AND KEN!!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif

Thanks for sharing Gill.....U know I'll be in YOUR shoes in 2 weeks! LOL

Have fun planning Ken's Arrival!

Thanks Nanny!....I know which form ur talking about, I think on the DS156 or DS230 Part 2 he has to print in my name as the person who helped him with the forms or what have you so I'll make sure he knows the spelling.

He's sent letter and cards to me so I'm hoping he knows the right spelling but u never know under pressure so we'll go over it again in person good.gif

Good question! I'll have to ask her. I know she went to the one in Trinidad last year and said it was great.

Hey Sunny,...did you get HAIL on your side of town. It was droping like crazy outside. It made it look like it was snowing and that stuff hurts when it hits your skin. You cannever go wrong with a TRINI carnival. I went to Brazil twice for their carnival and it was a little too crazy for me. It remined me of SPRING BREAK in Cancun . Oh, man do I have some spring break stories. You know when you had no kids and no real responsibilities. Do any of ya'll remeber FREAK NIC or however it's spelled and black college weekend. Lord of mercy. I'm glad I behaved. I'm seeing alot of those videos show up on you tube.

Yeah, spring break was pretty wild back in the day....Cancun, Greek Week in Philly, Bike week in Myrtle Beach, Greek week in New orleans.....LOL

Never made it to Trinidad or Brazil but the rest made for some pretty good stories when I did go laughing.gif

Just curious for those who've done it already?

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question. Somehow, Damien got his one day. One of his friends knew someone who worked there...can't remember. It was a blessing.

Yeah...I remember u telling me about that. We coulda done that but at that point, didn't seem urgent. LOL

Dave says he can go get on that day but he was hoping he might just pick it up when he's there for the medical on the 18th. Oh well, guess we should feel lucky we're still getting it before the interview. laughing.gif I'm sure it could be worse.....

What's the program ur in?

Jengs is right....they have supplemental loans at each school to be used as "back up" to the Federal loans when they're not enough and you make too much to get grants etc.. I took one of those in grad school and those can be a lifesaver when you don't qualify for grants and other assistance

Anyone know anything about student loans? I'm wondering if I can take out a larger student loan. I won't tech. be a grad student, but I'm trying to take undergrad and grad classes at the same time?

I have a double Master's degree and a Bachelor's and from what I remember, You can't "blend" the financial aid for two different programs UNLESS the undergraduate courses you're taking are part of the Master's degree curriculum....i.e. let's say ur in a 5 year program where you'll end up with a Bachelor's and a Master's then, yeah I would say you could utilize Grad level financial aid once you've gotten all the undergrad coursework over with etc.

In PA. the graduate level loans can go up to $18,500 and the undergrad loans go up to $5,000 per year. I went to Univ. of Penn for my Master's so that $18,500 didn't put a DENT in their tuition but it varies from school to school.

hi guys do u think any of ur SOs would object to being a stay at home dad if need be if its cheaper than daycare? By the way what are infant daycare costs like and the times in which u can drop them off and pick them up.

I can't say this loud enough but YES, most jamaican men do not like to be at home, looking after pickney, even if it's theres. they want to work be out the house.

yup that was his response when i asked him. My thoughts were that it may be cheaper for him stay home. Its just a thought. Now if he gets paid like 11.75 im estimating at 40 hours a week that would give about 350 maybe? and that will only just cover daycare and we need a lot more than that im trying figure what cost i will cut to afford daycare and any other expenses right now i have no extra to cover that so i been praying on it and trying find a cheaper place to live.

did u price daycare where u are??? know any older ladies who want to supplement their income??? Is your mother near you she might know someone

When my daughter was in Daycare ... and I even found preschool this way ... I called churches. Both the churches that helped me happen to be Methodist but Church people know people.... They know the community.
Open the yellow pages and call and visit everyone you can.
When I moved back to Maine I cried and cried because I didnt think I could afford it. Even though I work at home I couldnt get work done with a wired kid running around. I eventually found some GREAT care.

You have to hunt the good ones down!

I been crying and cryin too already and baby is nowhere near here yet. Going to do some OT now while i can to try save up some money and finish off my jamaica travel debt and the visa stuff. Im going to start lookign into and call some places. Im still hoping the TX thing will come through for me by summer that will tremendously cut my costs. They need 8 people to leave before i can come. So far one is leaving so now thats 7. Ill keep prayin on it. Ive also been trying to find places here cheaper where i dont have to sign a 12 month lease. Thank you all for ur advice i truly appreciate it, its like noone outside this visa/adjustment process can even begin to understand.

I always told Dave kids are a blessing to have but starting a family is a HUGE commitment, especially when he won't be working for several months if not more. Whatever u decided to do Kim, I'm sure you'll be o.k. cause ur a strong person....ur just feeling a little stressed by all this when it should be a happy time for u and the hubby.

Only work on what u can control first....then try to tackle the other stuff as you go along. smile.gif

Yeah, that's a plus but ur right.....the small write off u get from that surely doesn't outweigh the "upfront" costs etc.

Jengs....those are good suggestions too....sometimes we have to explore other options to meet our needs so maybe looking at some non-traditional childcare options (family, friends, smaller centers etc.) might be another option?

Trust me....I would love to have a bunch of extra money if I ever had kids but if It doesn't go that way, I gotta be creative, Right? wink.gif

Hell, I don't even want to be home exclusively looking after the kids. My personality does not allow me to stay in the house for long!

In theory, it SOUNDS good having the SO's watching the kids rather than having to pay hundreds of dollars in childcare but I agree with JG on this one....

I'm not sure ME or Dave could stay home like that and be happy doing it - long term. I know I couldn't probably do it but then again, this might be why I don't have any kids yet either laughing.gif

Claire......

Has he voiced any objections before? About moving to the US, I mean?

Do you think he had an argument or something with his father that could make him hesitant to move?

He could just be scared. It is a big step for anyone.

I think at the very least, you need to have some good sit down, heart to hearts with him to find out what the problem is.
I absolutely think you are in the most perfect situation. With those of us on K-1's & K-3's we are given little time to live together and make that smooth transition from living apart to marrying and being together almost all the time at first. Someone I know was saying she wished they gave us 4 months before the K-1 expired. I said 6 would be even better. The transition is just so sudden and difficult to work with.

Anyhow, I think you are the luckiest girl I have heard of in a long time. Yes, use the time to see how it all flows. That is a brilliant thing to do.

And, no, since his father is directly involved in this one, I think it was appropriate to discuss with him. I am almost thinking you should've said all that to Mike first though. I think I would definately discuss it before he finds out from his father.

True....sounds like he's either anxious or feeling stressed by the whole thing but I agree...Take the time to find out. Going to his dad's might be what u need to put a little distance there so you can see what he really wants and expects and what u want outta this too. I'm sure you wanted more of a reaction outta him based on all the Good News you were trying to give him etc. so hopefully.....It'll all work out for the best over time.

That sounds like great news!

But this makes me ask more questions. If you all knew me .. I ask too many ... I like to be sure and sometime reading the guides doesnt do the trick, someone needs to tell me.

After the NVC sends info to Barbados... Barbados sends package to Louis?? Right?? Then he fills out stuff and sends back and then they send him the interview date?

I am sorry you all must think I am crazy ... BUT THIS IS MY LIFE and I wanna get it right.

:-)
Thanks again!!!

i am really not sure how it works with Barbados..they should send him a "packet 3" with the paperwork...and he sould have to somehow give them a ds-230 to schedule the interview....but i really am not sure if that is how it works for them....

Hey Irie,

I don't know how it works in Barbados but I followed everything Gill (DEYOUNGTING) and JALove told me to do for me and Dave and everything went pretty smooth.

It took me awhile to catch on that all they "Really" need to schedule this interview was that DS230 Part I cause I just figured there had to be a catch but that's EXACTLY what happened. Soon as Barbados gets his case I would say try to get him a date and time to drop off the DS230 in person.....if they allow that there.

You can download it and fill it out now and have him sign it etc.

Thanks! He wont make it to Barbados though until the medical and interview. Will stay a few days fpr both. Too much money otherwise to fly back and forth.
