Actually, she lives down the street from me. I haven't talked to her in months though... Anyway, let me know when and where you plan to move and if you need any info about anything or any help. Me and my friends have a weekly LOST party. Two weeks ago there was a LOST cake for the premier. I actually just started watching this season, although the girl who made the cake is a VERY loyal fan. She has these LOST figurines of Sawyer and of Hurley. I think she paid like fifty for one of them. Crazy. But to each their own.

Good news! I got my NOA2 approval today!

So, I've started thinking about wedding locations and such. Have any of you tried to plan a wedding in Poland while based in the states? Do you have any ideas about how much a wedding house might cost in rural southeastern Poland?

Oh, and a funny thing about the Scottish accent. I can't understand a word of it! I was with Michal's cousin's wife in Scotland and we went to Home Depot to but some bricks. She is Polish, but has beautiful American accent. Anyway, the guys who worked in the store were trying to talk to us, but I couldn't understand a thing. Fortunately, she could and answered back in a nice brogue. It is just AMAZING to me that I couldn't understand my own language, but someone with English as their second language could understand so well. I wish I weren't so embarrassingly hopeless at languages. All of you who speak both so well are amazing too!

Have any of you thought about moving to Poland for a few years after having kids? Do you worry that your kids won't learn Polish fluently here, or that when they go to visit their cousins in Poland they'll be the spoiled bratty Americans? Is it weird that I worry about this?

Maui! I'm so jealous! It is cold cold cold here in PA. I've never been to Salt Lake, but I imagine it's pretty cold there too.

I do feel a little like a high-schooler getting so excited over valentines day, but it's only our second one together, and, you're right, nothing is as fun as getting/sending a package when we are so far apart.

I wish I were going to Poland for spring break! Instead, it'll be Scotland. Michal moved there to wait out the visa when I came back to the states, hoping to save some money up before coming here. Scotland's nice, but I would rather it were poland so we could hang out with his family and our friends.

What day are you arriving Calamitka? It's so exciting that it'll be soon now! You'll have to let us know how the move goes.

Valentine's day is coming! Do you all have any plans? I'm sending Michal a package with a stuffed monkey holding a heart that says "Bananas 4 You" and two Lucky Luke DVDs. When we were in poland over christmas the Lucky luke movies were supposed to play on the tv, but we missed them. He was disappointed since they were his favorite when he was a kid. I never heard of them before. Anyway, I ordered them off vivid.pl and I'm excited to see how surprised he'll be. That and the monkey is ADORABLE. And so soft. I've been sleeping with it the past two days and will be a little sad to see him go in the mail tomorrow

. It's probably for the best though as my cat was jealous.

I know politics is a dangerous topic, but...

I just read on the internet the text of a very nice speech Obama gave about how Poland should be on the visa waiver program. I know they are just words and there is no way to know if he could actually make that happen if he became president, but at least it gives me a little hope that things will change.

My mom told one of her friends that I am engaged to Michal and that it is going to take a long time to get a visa for him, and her friend said, "That's not surprising, Poland is still communist after all." Grr. Why are people so uninformed?

Thanks guys. I've decided not to try it. The paperwork would be a pain, plus the trip to the consulate, plus the money, plus the eventual denial and disappointment. I'm a grad student and I'll have a spring break, so I'll just go visit him then. I'm just SO impatient to introduce him to all my family and friends. It is really terrible that he can't come and visit without a visa even if we hadn't already applied for the K1. Someone from france, or england, or italy could visit without a visa. When will ALL the countries in the EU get on the visa waiver program?

Maybe with a new president

! Then at least Michal's mom and dad could come and visit...Have any of your in-laws (or parents) got to visit the states?

I guess I should accept that it may be hard for him at first. I lived in poland with him for about nine months and I missed my american frineds a lot. He was really great about my homesickness though. I cryed about not having any friends to have a "girl's night out" with, so he called up some of his girl friends and had them take me out dancing and to the bar. I feel like people were VERY kind to me in Poland and willing to do anything to make me feel welcome. I can only hope that my friends and family here are willing to do the same for him. I have a friend who is married and who always says she worries about her husband because he has no friends of his own, so I have secret plans of forcing her husband and Michal to be friends

Thanks for your advice about the new years ball. We had to pay a fee, and then I understand that there will be dinner, drinks, and dancing. Our friend Monika and her husband will be coming with too, so I think it's going to be a really great night. I haven't found a dress I like yet, but I'm keeping my eye out.

I think the hardest thing about having friends who spoke a language that I was still learning was that as it got late at night and everyone sat around talking my brain would get tired from trying to understand and then I would start daydreaming and eventually fall asleep!

Michal's in scotland now working, so maybe scotland to the US won't be as big of a transition. He's already picking up a lot of english there. I always thought it was sad that so many poles work so far away from home though. Michal's mom works in Italy, his brother-in-law in scotland, and many of his close friends just moved to england. I guess it would be sort of like if I decided to move out to california, though. I actually did live and work in california for a few months before going to poland, and it's funny, but I felt like california was more of a foreign country than poland was

Hi Everyone! I just started applying for a k-1 for my boyfriend who is from chelm, poland. I'm glad to see there is a thread particularly for poles. It will be nice to be able to talk to you all.

My biggest worry about the visa process is that my boyfriend doesn't speak english. Were/are any of you in that situation? How were things when you got to the states? Did you feel isolated and have a hard time finding work, or did you learn quickly and transition smoothly? Did you find Polish-speaking friends quickly here in the states? How soon after getting married can you go back to poland to visit?

I just worry after all the work of getting the visa that Michal will get homesick! How do you all deal with homesickness?

I'm going to visit poland over christmas! I can't wait! We are going to a sylwester for new years. It'll be my first. Any idea what sort of clothes I should wear? A full-length gown?

Also, I speak polish somewhat, but need A LOT of practice with my spelling and grammar. Maybe reading all your posts will give me practice!

Getting Vax records in Ireland?

In terms of the vaccinations, unless the beneficiary has a very god reason some vaccinations cannot be done (such as she is pregnant), as the others have said they will need to be done; a waiver to not have to do vaccination will set you back time wise, and that is the last thing you want, especially as there is no guarantee of approval. If you are just worried because there are no vaccination records, you could speed things up by starting to get the vaccines now.

Do you know of a way to get vaccination records in Ireland if your childhood family doctor is no longer around? My fiance isn't sure from where to request a transcript.

he was here twice and I've been there twice... we were trying to save some money so I haven't seen him since February and we were hoping the next time we see each other, it would be for good... Unfortunately it started wearing us down , all this wait, so he has just bought a ticket to see me in September for a week... Not much but will do to ease the pain a bit

we did write to our congress person but the only answer we got, was that we had to wait another 30 days. After we hit 6 months last week, my fiance contacted them again, just to learn that the guy looking after our case is away till Thursday so I guess we have to wait till then to ask them to expedite our case, unless we will be lucky and approved by then... It is really frustrating not to mention that if we get RFE that might add another 1-2 months to this wait... Hopefully they will manage to speed things up by the time they get to your petition

Wow, that's just adding insult to injury. I'm so sorry you and your fiance are stuck in this position. You'd think they would take cases more seriously, considering the impact the delay has on people's lives. Your whole live is in limbo during this process. Have you visited your fiance much? I'll cross my fingers for you two. Yeah, I hope they pick it up, too. Last year's processing times were 3-4 months for NOA2!

Unless Vermont picks up, you will most probably get your NOA2 around December ( unless you will be one of te lucky ones who hear within a month or two, which happens on one off occasions)...

Packet 3 pretty much contains stuff you can download yourself from the embassy's website like DS 230 part I and a notice of readiness that ryanandmellissa gave you a link to you can send it back to the embassy as soon as you know the embassy got your petition from the NVC, and of course as long as you have your medical done ( or know the date he will have it on) plus all the documents required for the interview

You must be feeling really impatient at this point. VSC processing times show "under" five months but obviously that isn't happening. Maybe we should all write to our congress people and make VSC a bit more enthusiastic about processing applications :-) I think this process is entirely too convoluted and exacerbating.

Unless something has changed, the US embassy site in Dublin said that the notice of readiness was not embassy specific. This is the one I found: http://photos.state....isa/ds_2001.pdf

The form is a DS2001

But if they send something different in Packet 3, obviously we will use that.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. We decided to book early Sept to early December. This way he can be there when packet 3 will most likely arrive. I will have to try to get a ticket for Christmas. This Visa process is gettin pricey.

I agree with Neetz, Your fiance will have to be a little more prepared when going through the POE if you already have your NOA2. Ray visited here in April when we were still at NOA1 stage. They asked him a lot of questions... They were nice about it, but they wanted to know if he had a job, return ticket etc... it went smoothly over all, but I would just be sure your fiance still has ties to Ireland if you are at the NOA2 stage when he visits.

Thanks, I appreciate your suggestions. He currently has limited ties to Ireland as he's been living and working in London for the Olympics. So, he will return to Ireland in August sans job and is trying to find someplace to stay now. It is really an awful situation.

Right now the plan is for him to come mid October, so based on current timelines, we probably won't get our NOA2 until November. I wish we could get a definite answer about how to handle packet 3 if it arrives when he's here.

yeah I went through some petitions of other Irish guys and it looks like once you get your NOA2 , your interview is within 2 months max, so 1 month from packet 3, depending how quickly you reply but since we have our medical done, Ray can reply the next day he gets his packet 3

Isn't researching these things exhausting? I'm so glad this forum exists. My friends are now calling this my support group :-)

I think my fiance might get his medical just before our NOA2 so he can come visit without worrying about it just before the interview. We were hoping to have Christmas together (an extended stay) and there is a chance Packet 3 will come during that time, based on other timelines I've seen. So, I wasn't sure if we could just reply from here if that happens.

Any idea if you have to reply to Packet 3 from Ireland?

yes you can but it's not a good idea... I was hoping to be approved in June.. it's end of July and we are still waiting, so if I could go back in time, I would have waited till I get my NOA2 before I make my medical appointment...

BTW there is no Texas Service Center that processes I129F petitions so please change your time line to Vermont (EAC number) or California (WAC number)

Yeah, I just found out yesterday that it takes so much longer from the NOA2 date to interview date than we had originally understood. So, we're trying to figure out when he can visit/when he should do his medical.

I updated the service center. It says on there to list the original one you post to, that's why it said Texas.
